Setting foot in the Local is a journey through time and space to old century Ireland. The ornate mahogany woodwork and antique-cut glass are both cozy and grand. The friendliness, wit, and hospitality of the staff are tangible.
As is required of any authentic Irish pub, the drink menu is magical. Hands down the best happy hour downtown. Bartenders deliver pure, velvety perfection with every pint of Guinness. If you're hesitant to commit to a stout but are in the mood for beer, try the the Black and Tan. Bourbon, whiskey, or gin lovers will be pleased by the cocktail options. Honey, caramel, cocoa, coconut & ginger are among the notes of a single bourbon. I love the Big Ginger and Cucumber Collins. Red Locks is sweeter and smoother than other whiskeys. The mocktails are pretty good too.
The food menu is filled with wholesome comfort dishes comprised of fresh ingredients. It's a wider variety than a typical pub. Must-try appetizers include the whiskey-honey glazed chicken shots, potato leek soup, and pretzel bites. Pretzel dip is made with real Irish cheese. Juicy tender cod and crispy fries make up the fish & chips. Solid reuben, burger, and salad options. Vegan-friendly quinoa salad and chickpea curry dishes are delish. Dessert favs are the Guinness Mousse and Irish Cream Cheesecake.
Brunch menu requires a hearty appetite. The corned beef hash was spot on. Irish cheddar in the garden veggie omelet was memorably delicious.
I've been here at least a dozen times and had consistently great craic.
