The Lockview Restaurant

Lunch on a Friday. Not crowded so we were seated immediately. Very nice inside with a large bar area. The draft beer list is impressive. This place is known for their gourmet cheese sandwiches so that's what we went for. I had the haverti dill with pickle and my wife chose the pepper jack and chorizo. We also ordered the housemade hummus as a starter. The food was good and the service excellent.

Fun grilled cheese menu :) Good value. Some obscure but good menu items, like fried pepperoni for example (I recommend them FWIW). Place has been here a while and we're glad we gave it a shot. Ambient noise is a bit loud, but if you're into a good bar experience, this is it.

The atmosphere had it going on, very chill. The drink and food menus were stellar. I really enjoyed the lobster grilled cheese, blew me away! The service was excellent, what more can you ask for?

A pretty decent vegan burger and very retro energy. The prices were affordable. Loved to see all of the vintage machines in the back! Would be awesome if they leveled up their grilled cheese menu with a non dairy option!!

Party of six dropped in for lunch. Service was very attentive without being too much. Great beer selection and they were offering boozy, specialty hot chocolate as well. Great grilled cheese options on the menu. The barbecue pork grilled cheese was quite delicious. Sweet potato fries were a nice side option. Everyone in our party was very happy with their food and the quality of service.

Met up with friends for dinner before a show! Seems like a popular place because we also ran into other friends! We shared the croquettes and I had a caprese salad with added chicken. Both were tasty! They were out of Dr. Pepper, otherwise service was very accommodating for our friend with a dairy allergy, who had a burger with no cheese and no butter on the bun. Only suggestion is assessing air quality as it was >1000 while we were by the door.

This was a very unique experience for my wife and I. I've never seen so many different variations on the grilled cheese sandwich. Mine was fantastic as my my wife's sandwich. The other real positive was that they were packed, but they had great service and speedily got us our food.

Stopped here recently and had the chicken sandwich which comes with fries. It came on toasted bread but could have used mayonnaise or another condiment to offset the dryness. Chicken and fries were good but will try something different next time. Service was good and ambiance fair.

During a recent surgery my nurse told me about this place. Delicious mac n cheese combos. It's so cute to visit as well. Very hip and urban.

I discovered the The Lockview when I asked ChatGPT to suggest a restaurant in Akron, Ohio that Anthony Bourdain would visit. It didn't miss a beat. their food portions are perfect, come hungry. The vibe felt at home. The staff is awesome and friendly. We got seated quick. I will definitely come back. also had the tater tots.

Cozy a little hip artsy vibe. Waitresses were fast friendly and polite. Drinks were good food was tasty and great stop after the show. Would recommend if you are at the Akron civic center for anything or hanging in the area.

The food and the service were beyond reproach. I am very particular about service & food quality. This is because I have a great deal of experience in the food service industry. I found the Lockview to be professional friendly & absolutely on top of their game. Even with a large crowd. I truly enjoyed my experience & my food. I will definitely come back and enjoy the Lockview again and again! I highly recommend it if you enjoy a historical tavern environment.

Food is average at best I'd compare it to your local sports bar in terms of food. Service was terrible we waited over a half hour till someone acknowledged us. We will not be back and we recommend to anyone that we hear going downtown to avoid this establishment.

YUM! I was in town for the day and decided to try this place out! A great choice on my part because it was so good! When we first arrived, we got sat right away without a wait, which was awesome as it was fairly busy, but still quiet and welcoming! The Lockview offers MANY different grilled cheese sandwiches on their menu it was so hard to choose! To start we got the mac n cheese bites, which came out hot and ready for us to eat! It was the perfect app to munch on while we decided which sandwich to choose! We decided on the pesto one and the artichoke one to try (& split) and they were both filled with so much flavor! The bread was the perfect amount of crispy too! All sandwiches were served with goldfish crackers, or you could upgrade to fries, tater tots, etc! - I stuck with the goldfish because I also got a big bowl of tomato soup to dip my sandwiches in! (which of course was delicious) If i'm ever in town again I will be sure to come back and try more of those yummy sandwiches! I definitely recommend giving them a try!

I waited for over 25 minutes after being seated and the waitress did not return. I was not told if there was a wait time or delay. This has happened twice.

Place was clean and well decorated. Staff was friendly. Food was pretty good but took a while to come out which was odd because the place was not busy and all of the food we ordered was fried or cooked on the griddle.

My first time there was better than what I expected. The staff was very friendly and provided great service. I had the traditional grilled cheese which very delicious. I have gone back a couple times already and the speciality grilled cheese were also delicious. I would recommend this restaurant.

We had a reservation 30 minutes after they opened for the evening. Got seated quickly but the wait for our mains was over an hour and we only had about 15 minutes to eat and settle our bill before we had to leave with just enough time to get to our show. My fries and sandwich were both room temperature by the time we were served. I appreciate they were busy but we were some of the first guests of the evening and were some of the last out on that rush. Last visit for sure. Sorry but true.

Perfect spot for a low key dinner! We went here before seeing a show at Akron Civic (it is literally right across the street) and were pleased with the experience. They have a variety of grilled cheeses (the main part of their menu) as well as some other sandwiches and appetizers. I got the #8 (goat cheese, roasted red pepper, and spinach on Tuscan herb bread) and my companion got the #2 (essentially a pepperoni pizza grilled cheese). We both upgraded from the goldfish crackers - hand cut fries for me and sweet potato fries for her - and had no regrets! Everything was tasty and very reasonably priced, and the service was good too. Each time we come to The Lockview we love our food! The seasonal cocktails are always on point, the servers are friendly and helpful, plus the location / vibes inside are great. We keep coming back

Friendly staff. Immediately welcomed us and asked if we'd been there before. We hadn't so she explained how they are known for their gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches. I selected a grilled steak sandwich with melted cheese along with my all time favorite sweet potato fries. Very good as it is risky getting steak at a bar but they proved me wrong. The aïoli that came with it was spectacular. I also tried their unique cocktail Blueberry Oasis. So good and it was quite the presentation.

Food was good not a lot of options if you don't want a fancified grilled cheese The service was good they had some music issues while we were there and our waiter forgot the soup but overall very good and would return!!

Me and my swim team ate here (there are 18 of us). We were seated very fast and the waitresses were very polite. They made a few mistakes while serving us, they didn't give us enough utensils and I had to ask for 3 more. Then they didn't give us enough waters and had to ask for more as well. The worst mistake they made was that while handing out a plate to the table one of the waitresses spilled the Tater Tot's on the table. They apologized for the mistake and brought out more Tater Tot's. It wasn't a huge deal but it can't go unnoticed.

Food was excellent and the staff is friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed and casual. Would definitely return whenever I'm in the Akron area.

Sorta gave me the 70's vibe!! Hard ass seats lol They were outta the Krab Dip (I was damn near ready to leave lol) The waitress was sweet suggested the Lawsons dip and chips. I didn't know the place specialties is grilled cheese . I got the grilled cheese with a portobello mushroom caramelized onions roasted garlic w/swiss cheese for around 10 bucks I added a chicken breast for 5-6 dollars. Honestly I coulda did without the chicken added a side of tots for like 2 dollars more. I think if you wanted a side like pasta salad, salad, sweet potato fries or fries it's addition 2 dollars slaw or goldfish no charge. My friend ordered fish soft taco w/ slaw I wasn't impressed sorta tooo soft sloppy made. He didn't say nothing but did mention if we come back he's not getting the fish taco. They played 70 music. I like the lantern lights throughout the restaurant. Black & white movie on both tv screens. *waitress mentioned there was a patio for the summer

Absolutely amazing. The customer service is amazing, food came out in seconds, drinks are great bartender are really friendly overall a 100/10 experience extremely recommend.

Great music, friendly staff and cozy atmosphere make this place one of our go-tos in Akron. I love the pulled pork and chorizo sandwiches.

I enjoy the openness of the venue, more so than the food. I like the pork belly options and lobster when they have it. Since I cannot eat as many things as before I have to pick and choose sadly what to eat so I have to be creative in my choices. So if they have it their salads are delicious with bacon and pork belly combined and if you see a theme in my posts (pork belly in all forms is yum) haha

Grillllllled cheeeeeese. They do it well here. I had the one with the Portobellos and roasted red peppers and it was gooooood. And those fresh cut fries were goooood. Chai Pumpking beer was goooood. (And it didn't hurt that I was there with two of my favorite yelpers, Raymond and Oliver!) Seriously. This place is top notch. I used to come here when it was Bilbo's Down Under, back when I was in college. I really liked it then. Like it even more now. Downtown Akron has become a really cool spot in the last 20 years since I've been gone. I think there is a lot to offer in this area, and Lockview is a perfect fit down here.

We arrived at 6:30 and in a few minutes we'd not seen a server so the greeter who's table was next to our booth took our appetizer and drink order. A different person brought the fried pepperoni then offered to take our sandwich order when we asked where our server was. The greeter brought our drink refill and 15 minutes later a different server brought our sandwiches. We ordered the mozzarella with lobster. Good over all sandwich. The buttered bread was grilled just right and the combination of the aioli and lobster blended perfectly. I'd try a different sandwich if I ever came back to Akron But I would definitely order the fried pepperoni. I suggest you don't sit in the first booth. Renea was great making sure we had service in between her regular duties.

Stopped in for lunch with a few business associates, it was around 11:30 AM mid-week, the restaurant was mostly empty so it was a nice place to have a conversation over some creative sandwiches. If you're a connoisseur of grilled cheese the menu here will definitely grab your attention, I don't know how many varieties are listed but it was impressive. After extreme pressure to make a decision not from the staff but because of time I decided to play it safe after receiving a recommendation (the chicken cordon blue w/hand-cut fries) I have to say after the first bite I made an excellent decision under pressure it was absolutely delicious, of course anything on buttered and grilled Texas toast is amazing in my opinion. I can just imagine how fun his place could be on the evening shift, the long bar with the old fashioned stools, the large selection of beers and all these grilled cheese sandwiches, I say it's definitely something to consider again in the future. The staff was extremely friendly and attentive enough without being annoying and the prices are reasonable I plan to return...

Folks: Don't sleep on this great place when you're in Akron!! It's fun and tasty!!!!

Solid choice for reliably good grilled cheese, crispy tater tots, and well made cocktails. Fried pepperoni is ridiculously addictive. The beet salad was a favorite but is sadly no longer available.

6 of us were so excited to eat here but the host was so rude we left and went elsewhere. There were several open table and our friends were sitting at bar. We ordered drinks at bar and were told we couldn't stand there. We moved to back of restaurant out of the way and were told we couldn't stand there and needed to go outside to wait for our table. I was appalled not by what he said but how he was talking to me his customer! He was very rude and disrespectful and should NOT work in the service industry! Very dissatisfied!

Such good food. Have to try the homemade chips and Lawson chip dip. The fried pepperoni's are delicious too.

Lockview just re-opened for lunch and I was/am super excited about it. Their grilled cheese's are so delicious, with different variations you'll always find something you want. It's also good with their tomato soup on cold rainy days. Also if you're with a group I recommend getting the tater tots as an appetizer, the dipping sauce that comes with it is so good!! Lockview is a great local place with a good selection of food!

Their specialty is gourmet grilled cheese. I tried the #5 on sour dough. It has goat cheese, mushrooms and carmelized onions. It typically comes on multigrain bread but I subbed it for sourdough bread. The sandwiches come with goldfish crackers. I subbed the crackers for tots. The sandwich was on point. So flavorful but I could only eat 1/2 and took the the other 1/2 home. The tots were crunchy on the outside. You can never go wrong with tots! It was moderately busy for a Friday night. It is dark inside and the tables are very small. There was 6 of us at a table and we could not sit comfortably without touching knees or scooting back from the table. 45 minutes after we ordered our food I reminded our waitress that we ordered 45 minutes ago. She said she would go check on our food and immediately came back out with our food. The food was not cold but it was not piping hot. I wonder how long it sat under the heat lamp before I said something to the waitress. She didn't even apologize. My group tried the #2, #9, #11, tortuga drink and old fashioned. Everyone enjoyed their meals and drinks. They have an extensive drink menu with many local options.

I love this place - but like other places in downtown Akron they do not not know how to staff for busy times. Nobody wants to wait an hour for food

We discovered this place via Yelp while visiting Akron and trying to get in out of the rain. This was a really nice place to grab a late lunch. Very clean and a nice space. The sandwiches are very creative. I had the #6 grilled cheese with cheddar, apples and bacon. My husband had the Chicken Cordon Bleu. We both really enjoyed our lunch and if we are ever in Akron again we would make this a stop. The waitress was very nice and helpful, our food came quickly and service overall was great.

We loved the BBQ....we plan on coming back the next time we are up that way...we really did enjoy the food

I don't know where to begin. Me and Brucie sat here for a while after being sat in the worst area . Their servers sat on their phones or were just talking to each other as we sat waiting for one to come to us to ask us for drinks. A couple minutes later, a family comes in with no reservation, and gets served drinks and get better seats than we ever did! After 20 mins of not being asked for what I'd like to drink, we left. As we left they yelled have a nice day. Im hurt. Im upset. I looked forward to a meal like this, and sadly nobody came to the occasion. Do not come to The Lockview if you expect good service, good seating, and general care for a customer; they do not have any of that at all.

A really wonderful place to have lunch, beer, casual dinner. Service is always top notch and fun to sit outside when the weather is nice. I'm a huge fan of their luscious BLT.

So on my visit to Ohio this week, poured over Yelp to find a great little spot to have some awesome drinks and great food! I settled on the Lockview due to some pictures and previous reviews. Sad to say, I'm truly disappointed. The chili was watery, lacked flavor, and loaded with beans; barely any actual meat. At maybe 1/4 of it and couldn't take it anymore. Also ordered a wedge salad which was pretty good, but nothing to write home about. Beer list lacked some really great IPAs that I was expecting and looking forward to and top shelf vodka drink was tiny, and pricey.

I love the Lockview, they have an outstanding assortment of draft beer for you to explore. Lockview is directly across from Lock 3 in downtown Akron and well worth stopping into before a concert. With the new DORA setup (outside drinking to go) in Akron, stop in and grab a beer to go!

I was VERY pleasantly surprised by the Lockview; my expectations weren't high when coworkers said we were going to a place specializing in grilled cheese. But I loved the atmosphere - a more refined but comfortable vibe. You could absolutely come for a nice happy hour or casual date. And I really loved the food. Despite the big variety of really unique sandwich options (which all looked fresh and amazing - and my coworkers confirmed that they were), I opted to be "good" and go for a spinach salad with chicken. And much to my surprise, it had such great flavor and was very filling! I'd be eager to go back to get the salad again, which is rarely the case. Prices were also very reasonable for the quality and quantity, which is always a plus!

Beautifully restored LocKeepers home on the canal. Great food and attentive servers. Great view when sitting out on the balcony in the summer.

Nice dim ambiance without being pretentious. Lockview is an Akron staple. Everything I've ever had here is good, but last night I had the #11, and it knocked my socks right off. Lobster, lemon aioli, arugula grilled cheese. It was so good, I can't stop thinking about it. I usually like to switch it up when I go the same place a number of times, but I'd have a hard time ordering anything else from now on. Usually anything lobster is super expensive, but this wasn't. $10 for one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. They also have a gazillion beers on tap, possibly more.

Delicious food and friendly staff! The gourmet grilled cheese selection is amazing and the food is delicious. I absolutely love sitting on their outdoor patio when available!
