I was so unhappy with our stay at The Lodge At Vail. My husband and I decided to get away for a night for our 2nd wedding anniversary, so we booked a one night stay through Priceline, and headed up from Denver. When we arrived, the hotel was a little sad. They definitely need to update this place to live up to the 4 star resort status, but I thought "no big deal, the rooms must look great!". Yikes, we were wrong!
Upon arriving to our room, we discovered that not only was it so tiny and outdated, but it was also an adjoining room, and I could just barely see through the door crack into the next room (which had guests) and we could easily hear their conversation. Wow! We headed downstairs..asked for anything else with a king sized bed. We were given "the only other room available". The first room off the lobby on the first floor. It looked right into the parking lot. I told my husband I felt like I was staying at a Motel 6 (except for the price...).
This is when we discovered the weirdest thing of all. These rooms have no air conditioning. And it was at least 85-90 degrees in the room. My husband felt bad. We usually don't make any fuss, let alone three requests like this, but we felt it was necessary. He went and asked why there was no air conditioning. The hotel said it was because they were an "older hotel" and only the deluxe suites have air conditioning. If we wanted air conditioning, it was going to be an additional $50. Weird.
OK...so we opted to take a two queen room between two service rooms on the third floor so that we might get a breeze from the window, or at least a ceiling fan. That was fun! In the morning, we were woken up by housekeeping using both service rooms from 6-8 a.m. to get glasses, heavy machinery, who knows what, and slamming doors. It was a great way to start the day! :)
I can't believe a 4-star resort doesn't have air conditioning in all of their rooms. Especially when it was that hot outside. Do you get heat in the winter? It could be optional if you stay here!
Anyways, we had decided to opt for the free parking, instead of the hotel's $20/night parking (on top of the $20/night resort fee -- you might not be told about this upon check-in unless you ask, just an f.y.i!). The concierge gave us directions where to park in the parking garage, but I really wish she would have warned us that there are TWO parking garages next to each other. One is free and one will cost you $40/overnight to park. Guess which one we ended up parking in? It's a small oversight if you're not familiar with the area, and the front desk seemed to know that it happened more that enough that they could simply say 'watch out for the first parking garage you'll come to!' Just a tip for everyone visiting!!
