The Longs Arms

We visited in July 2025 and had a memorable experience. This was one of the places I was most looking forward to during our trip to England, and it did not disappoint. The staff were wonderful, offering attentive service without being overbearing. They were especially great with our two younger children, ages 9 and 6, and the kid-friendly options were well enjoyed. The food was fantastic and beautifully presented. A personal highlight was the cask ale, which I had heard a lot about beforehand and it lived up to expectations. Highly recommended.

The Longs Arms in South Wraxhall is everything a good pub should be: friendly staff, great beers and wines, a real fire, and exceptional food. The menu is well balanced — you can just have a couple of snacks and a main, or go for all three courses. This visit was a chance to catch up with a good friend and to return to Rob (chef-owner and cellar man) to try more of his food. We had three courses. Fresh warm bread and excellent butter is served to every table. For starters, I had the Newlyn crab, salmorejo, our tomatoes, olive oil, jalapeño — fresh picked white crab meat, a rich tomato base, and just a touch of heat. A classic. My friend had the Pembrokeshire lobster, ajo blanco, pickled pear, toasted almonds, basil. For mains, I was planning to order the calves liver, butter mash, swede, pancetta, onion and pine nut gravy, but my friend got there first. I went for the Highland venison loin, venison pie, potato terrine, red cabbage, English corn, quince, Stornoway black pudding gravy — and it didn’t disappoint. The venison was perfectly cooked and well-balanced with the pie and seasonal blackberry. The calves liver was also spot on. For dessert, I had the Muscovado tart, which was the perfect way to end the meal. My friend had the pear and almond tart. Portions were generous and three courses felt like great value for money. I’ll definitely be back — next time I want to try the Wagyu beef burger, cheese, pickle, spicy tomato relish, served in a brioche bun with fries.

This may be my favourite gastropub ! The Sunday Roast was perfection, and their a la carte dishes were superb. Who knew a pub could do such a good boullaibaise

We booked The Longs Arms after seeing the good reviews for a valentines meal. We started off with the scotch egg which was nice but very small. The crispy olives were not right at all as someone who eats olives daily just let them being crisping them and making them hot was not good at all. We both had the smoked cheese sausages which i didnt even eat after trying one little bit of it, it has red cabbage under it and on top and it made everything wet and mushy with the mashed potato, after seeing pretty much the whole meal was left i thought a server may have asked why it was left. The best thing this place has going for it is the ice cream this was amazing, the best part of the meal by far. You also feel like locals or people who use this place often get much better service, i ordered a drink 10 minutes before the table beside me and they got served straight away while i waited nearly 20 minutes for a lime soda. Was nowhere near the quality i expected especially at a pretty high price point.

Popped in on the way home after staying at a nearby hotel and it became the highlight of the weekend. Its a beautiful pub, and we had a lovely table in the bar with our primary aged daughter and dog. We had three roasts which were expensive at over £40 per plate, but the 52 day dry aged beef and the rest of the food on the plate was the best roast we have ever had by some way, and the puddings were amazing too! So we felt that it was good value. The service for a Sunday afternoon was perfect, relaxed and lots of time to enjoy. I wished we lived closer, but we will be back again at some point.

Best food in the area without a doubt! Our second visit - and just as amazing, if not better than our first. Even the burger is impeccable and so well balanced. Lovely staff as ever too. Cannot recommend enough!

Treated a couple of friends to Sunday lunch here yesterday 5th Oct The proprietors have everything running really well, courteous and professional service staff right through to excellent food and beverages. The main attraction though is definitely the roast as everything is presented and cooked to an excellent standard and at a fair price theses days. We were not rushed and spent two and a half hours enjoying conversation while being served at a leisurely but attentive pace. Should there be a better Sunday lunch dinning experience than here locally then we would certainly be interested in giving it a go, but we doubt it.

Really nice food but our experience was marred by what I can only describe as surly and unfriendly staff. Kept us waiting when we arrived whilst the waiting staff “finished their chat”, and then menus dumped on the table for us to hand out ourselves. Friendliness and a few smiles is all part of the experience, especially as it’s not a cheap evening!

Finer fare pub. Superb entrees. Unique flavors of sorbets. Great cappuccino. A number of great local options for gin! We ordered the short rib- to die for. Tender moist beef. Shavings of dried tomato making the appeal nice. Very filling. If you want dessert and not a huge appetite - you could share it. Other dishes seem to be more appropriate for single dishes and enough. The celeriac soup with smoked duck, very mild cream based broth- very good. Smoked duck added the salt one may want or need for flavor. This pub is an award winning pub and quite a big deal in the countryside of England. Be sure to pick up one of the luxury dining books they have on windowsill. And some fresh eggs on your way out!

Carpark was busy, had to wait a while for food, and the queue to order and sit down was fairly long but staff were very friendly and there is a park outside for children to enjoy. Food was good once it arrived and overall the atmosphere was great.
