Stopped by The Looney Baker and it was solid! I went around noon on a Saturday so they were already sold out of quite a bit. But, I got an Apple Fritter and it was pretty solid. Honestly, wasn’t anything too special but it was good! The service was great and everyone there was friendly. The prices are good too. There’s nowhere inside to eat, so just something to keep in mind. The atmosphere isn’t bad, there just isn’t much to it. Overall, pretty nice little bakery!

Best cinnamon roll I’ve ever had in my entire life. I hope this place stays alive for decades to come, they’re one of the only bakeries that hasn’t sacrificed their quality despite things like the pandemic that gave big market chains like Dunkin & Hortons to cheapen their baked goods. If you want pastries that are actually worth the money (which they’re way less expensive than most other places) go here. (Banana for cinnamon roll size scale)

I stopped in to get a dozen donuts for my mom. She was having visitors for the day. I wanted to get something better than just a standard dozen donuts and these were definitely better than standard. The donuts were so fresh everyone loved them. I will definitely be back. Keep up the good work, oh and the service was very good as well. It was my first time here, and I give them an A+ As Arnold says, “I’ll be back!”

Google
Probably my new fav lunch spot! Such a great deal (1/2 sandwich + cup of soup + donut) all for $7.50! Chicken salad sandwich was amazing! Donuts are freshly baked n warm. Super friendly staff :)

Google
Best place to get donuts 🍩 😋 in Livonia hands down. Fresh made i believe every day. The looney bread fresh is the best. Apple fitters are the best in the Detroit metro area.

Google
Drove by tonight after dinner. I’d say about 6:30pm on a Friday night. Supposedly open until 10pm, it was a ghost town. Not the first time either. I need a more reliable option. Moving on.

Google
High quality donuts and friendly service! They serve guernsey's ice cream which is nice to see! It's right next to the road. Very convenient! I definitely want to go here again and try more. My favorite was the chocolate filled donut.

Google
Donuts are always great! I waited 10 minutes for a bagel and had to leave before getting it. I was on my own time crunch but didn’t expect it to take that long.

Annette J.

Yelp
Is there anything better than a donut drive thru during a pandemic? I don't think so. Delicious, melt in your mouth glazed donuts and crullers while being responsible and safe? Hot damn! You don't find a lot of drive thru donut places that aren't chains so the fact the Looney Baker has this feature is a rarity and one that should be celebrated! I don't come out this way all that often now that I'm mostly at home but when I do, you better believe a stop through here is on my to-do list.

Randy W.

Yelp
Looney bread specialty is good, but there donuts, and various cinnamon rolls were tasty too. Service with a smile and the local vibes made this place extra nice.

Raagini Y.

Yelp
Great donuts Decent coffee Good drive thru with pleasant service I would recommend getting a bunch of donut holes or donuts for the workplace which is what I did. Everyone loved them

Tasha R.

Yelp
The staff members are extremely nice. The donuts are fantastic. They have a lot of options. I loved the cherry donut! Their coffee is out of a machine (like the gas station type coffee) but it tastes delicious. I love the french vanilla cappuccinos. Their other drinks (like juice and pop) are canned/bottled. The only thing that was disappointing was that they have no indoor seating! It looks like they used to but closed it and never reopened it. It would be so cute and nice to go there and sit at the counter! I wish they would reopen their seating.

Yelp
I had high hopes when I saw this place out of the corner of my eye. It definitely attracts you from the outside, but the inside has not made it past 2020. The tables are all put up with boxes all over them. The counter area is clean and the young lady who helped me was very helpful. I ordered the chocolate cream stick and a chocolate Honey dip donut with a cup of coffee. The chocolate honey dip donut was very good. The chocolate cream stick tasted like it had pepper in it?? I am pretty good with flavors but that one kind of took me for a loop. Also the cream was not smooth it was rather grainy. The cup of coffee, weak as can be. I truly expect a donut place to have a good healthy cup of coffee it doesn't need to be starbucks, it just needs to be a good Brew.

Mercy W.

Yelp
This place is absolutely fabulous. I'm really glad we drove out of the way to get here. It's kind of tucked back if you blink you missed it however, these two items are substantially delicious and especially the loony ride. It really taste like someone's grandmother made it. I'm a huge fan of apples and Mason specifically in the fall so this is really hitting the spot for me !

Jaynie B.

Yelp
Really like it... has been around forever but they need to make more looney bread because they run out way too fast

D T.

Yelp
Always good I'm on a salty bagel kick. And Looney baker didn't let me down. Delious and fresh. And of course the donuts are always fresh. With a pretty assortment but of course that depends when you go there I'm a fan for the last 25 years.

Ranyia T.

Yelp
Their looney bread is their specialty and it is Amazing. They have the creamiest hot chocolate. The egg salad sandwich is really good. My kids like their Turkey sandwich. The donuts are good.

Nicole E.

Yelp
Their pics of the cinnamon donut and their looney bread with the raisins look so appealing. I have been wanting to stop by here for quite a while now. They are only open until 2 PM on Saturday. They even have a drive-thru, that's super convenient. It was $9.25 for one cinnamon roll donut and a half dozen of other mixed donuts. The cinnamon roll is not part of the half dozen or it doesn't count, since it's considerably bigger. The cinnamon roll is a good size, it's an extra cost from the dozen or half dozen count. It's not too bad as far as texture or taste. The sour cream glazed donuts are good, nice slight crunch to them. The sour cream and glaze are a nice pairing. The sour cream donuts had the best dough texture and bite to them of all of the donuts for me. The apple cider glaze donut is okay, as is the blueberry glazed and raspberry filled. None are my favorites. The custard is super skinny for a custard stick, the dough isn't bad, the custard is yummy.

Yelp
Love the looney bakery there looney bread is the best filled with great taste and flavor

Betty W.

Yelp
Yummmmmmmm. Thankfully their donuts make up for the rude woman working the drive thru

Terrance T.

Yelp
Best donuts around. The large cinnamon roll is a must try. If you're on a diet don't come here. Best variety around.

Ann W.

Yelp
I had been minimizing my carb intake for a few years so doughnuts were really not in the cards. However, during the pandemic, my diet has been a bit more relaxed and as a result, I have been meaning to return to Looney for a fritter or two. Unfortunately, with back-to-back meetings most mornings, that was not to be. On a day off recently, I dropped in early afternoon for a treat. I had not eaten all day. The space seemed different because pick-up and drive-through are the only options right now. Instead of seeing a line of shoppers in the shop, the line is at the drive-through. Instead of regulars perched at the counter enjoying the banter with their morning coffee, the stools were empty. And instead of seeing smiling faces, they were hidden behind masks. The trays against the wall were half empty, holding glazed, filled, and coconut-covered varieties. I quickly spotted the Looney bread that I was interested in trying. If you've never tried it, it resembles a cinnamon roll, if the cinnamon roll is long, flat, and sliced. The Looney bread features cinnamon studded with lots and lots of plump raisins and chopped walnuts. The bread is glazed in confectioners' sugar. (See picture, below). It was terrific and well worth the wait. The fritter was not as good as they usually are. They were crispy, oily, and sugary - all pluses. But they lacked flavor. Service was, as always, friendly and helpful. I cannot wait to return.

Anna G.

Yelp
Came in today for the first time and asked about allergen information and was met with a surprising amount of hostility! Sales member told us "if you have any allergy, you should not eat here". Was also asked "if you have a nut allergy can you eat at any donut shop??" To which we responded yes, it's very common for baked good stores to have allergen information... We were shocked by how rude they were and will not be returning. Customer service is DEFINITELY lacking.

kendra k.

Yelp
I really enjoy coming here for lunch! I get a cold cut sandwich and a Diet Coke it comes out around $9 so a little on the pricey side but it's much better than any other fast food chain. The employees are always so friendly and even better...they have a drive through! I have not been here for breakfast yet, but I'm sure it's just as good.

james C.

Yelp
I liked this place the one time I went a handful of years ago. I do need to stop by when I come to Michigan next. Their doughnuts are delicious, even day later. They had coffee and surprisingly, that was pretty good.

Gymnastic D.

Yelp
Happy Father's Day to the all the amazing dads today and everyday! It's such a treat this morning with coffee, donuts, and delicious bagels from The Looney Baker! That's what we surprised Dad and the neighbors with for Father's Day! Plus, the cinnamon rolls are the best in town! We wanted to especially thank the amazing staff and owner of The Looney Baker for making it so special for us all today and every morning for the community Coccia family

Audrey H.

Yelp
Unfortunately this place has really gone down hill. We used to love coming here but since they refuse to open their inside for seating and dining and most of the staff is quite rude and the donuts are stale it's just not a favorite anymore. Would not recommend.

Lily N.

Yelp
I have no pictures of the donuts at this time because they get devoured way too quick. They have such a variety of donuts it's amazing. Their quick service in the drive through to their donut selections that are available almost everyday are perfect! There's nothing amazing and fancy about these donuts but it just screams family owned and I will always support that!

Kathy S.

Yelp
Very nice crew. I went through the drive-thru and ask for a cinnamon roll and the woman was so sweet says I'm sorry we're all out how about an apple cinnamon so I was a little disappointed but I said sure. Well that was delicious and I love the Looney bread. I will continue to be going there and telling my friends about the place too.

GG M.

Yelp
I can't say enough great things about this spot! Always and I mean ALWAYS FRESH! Love the friendly customer service inside and at the drive trhu, which is not very common these days, just sayin'. Best way to start the day!

Martha P.

Yelp
The apple fritters are the best I have ever had bar none! If you want to treat yourself, this is the place to go.

Shunda B.

Yelp
I only used the drive-thru because i was being lazy - they didn't have anything special... so why 4 stars?! They're staff is so silly and made me smile - very engaged with the customer while i waited for my donuts. I will be back - I'll return and come inside to see what they working with. Happy Eating!!!!

Patrick B.

Yelp
I don't suggest buying the dozen donuts that they sell in the boxes. They filled the with donuts that they cannot sell the day before. Extremely disappointed the quality has gone down unfortunately !

Fox E.

Yelp
If no customers ever came here, it'd be the Lonely Baker. If it was in Pisa, Italy, it'd be the Lean-y Baker. And if he tried to get with a blind girl, who in turn made a bust sculpture of him in a rather creepy video, then it'd be the Lionel Richie Baker. The Looney Baker is absolutely crazy. They're open 24 hours and have some pretty damn good Donuts - especially the famous cinnamon roll which I think is easily the highlight of the experience. The sour cream is really good too, and the glazed is not bad. The one negative is that you can't get into the bathroom without them buzzing you in - but at least they're really nice about it. Given the bathroom arrangement, anyone would think Livonia was a dangerous place but it really isn't bad. I think these people are dealing with crazy late night stuff, because they're open 24 hours so they probably know what they're doing with that arrangement. Definitely five stars, not the world's best donuts, but some of Michigan's better donuts, and cheap, open late, family owned, and what an adorable name. People think I'm a Looney for posting reviews on Christmas Day, but it's not like I have any family to spend it with.

Yelp
The Apple fritters are amazing. The staff is hit or miss... Will make a fuss if you try to use Apple Pay.

Bernadette B.

Yelp
*COVID19 Edition* Uh... how have I never reviewed Looney Baker before? That seems like a massive oversight. I've been going to Looney Baker all my life, and I'll continue to do so as long as I live in the area. Looney Baker is a staple of Livonia, and I'd dare to put it in the same category as Bates. If you're in town, come here. Now Looney Baker doesn't have the most Instagram-esque style of donuts that a lot of bakeries have been trying to get into. They do the simple straightforward stuff, and they do it well. Cinnamon sugar donuts are a classic, and I get them every time. Every once in awhile I'll get a cinnamon roll and that's always a winner. As for pandemic insights, I've only gone through the drive-thru (for most of my life now that I think about it), but I was pleased to see that the person working the window was wearing a mask properly. So that's just the icing on the donut for me.

Tom K.

Yelp
I have always loved Looney Baker. One big problem however. During Covid they stopped making their chocolate and vanilla crullers. My wife and I love these lite treats. The reason they gave was that they couldn't get the mix from Canada? Ok, now that Covid is under control they still refuse to make these treats. Dunkin doughnuts make an awful version of this doughnut so it is not an option. I guess we will have to visit Paris bakery or Doughnut Town to satisfy our craving! Too bad because we are just a few blocks from Looney. Please bring your crullers back!

Aileen B.

Yelp
Walking into Loony Baker is like stepping back in time to the mom and pop doughnut shops of days gone by. Here you'll find the regulars sitting at the counter reading a newspaper, sipping on a cup of coffee, and eating a doughnut, amid the scent of freshly baked deliciousness. My dad delivered doughnuts to restaurants when I was growing up, so I know a thing or two about what makes a good doughnut, and you can be assured Loony Baker has some of the best. I have never had a doughnut here that I didn't thoroughly enjoy. Whether you're in the mood to sit and relax or grab a dozen to go, you've come to the right place. Enjoy!

Fato B.

Yelp
always fresh and amazing. this place is a Livonia staple for a reason. nothing beats it.

Rich K.

Yelp
They makes the best looney bread. My wife loves the double chocolate doughnuts. And the coffee is great. Nice staff.

Paige K.

Yelp
This place isn't BAD per se, just not what I'm looking for in my donuts. The staff however was very friendly! They were sold out by glazed old fashioned by 11:00 AM but the cashier said children from a local program come on Wednesday's and wipe them out so keep that in mind. I tried the cherry and the blueberry glazed cake donuts. The flavors were there and they were soft but the glaze was very lacking. Almost as if it all melted or slid off and the outside wasn't crispy at all. In my cake donuts, I like a good glaze with a crisp outside and soft inside. So again, not bad donuts - just not what I prefer.

Deborah G.

Yelp
The Looney Baker is one of the few bakeries that make great donuts, bagels, and other baked goods. One thing you should know is the Tuna sandwich is the best. The chili is awesome. The service is wonderful. We are blessed to have them.

Tonia B.

Yelp
Best bakery in town!!! Fresh and delicious :-) Toasted coconut donuts are a favorite!!!

Mark M.

Yelp
Picked up some donut holes and a couple toasted coconut donuts. The donut holes were a bit pricey and didn't taste that great at all, pretty bland. However, the toasted coconut donut was super soft and delicious. The place is old school inside with quite a number of tables to sit at. The girls at the counter were super friendly.

Robert G.

Yelp
This is the place for tasty treats, a Livonia tradition that we all know about and have always had a great time bringing home the sweets, Looney is the name but satisfaction is it's fame...Much respect to the Boss for being consistently on top of his products, and taking care of our sweet tooth's...Rock on to the Looney people....

Isaac A.

Yelp
It's a local mom&pop donut shop with pretty good donuts. They're open all the time and are packed if you get there in the early morning. There's a drive through and rewards card system as well. There's a special peanut donut they are famous for, so be sure to try that out if you stop in. The prices are good and it's right off the highway for a quick stop to bring donuts in for work. We got some bagels, donuts, and chili to go the other day: no issues with any of it. My kids like their chocolate/sugar frosted donuts the most. Their everything bagel has pretty good coverage on top.

Jessica S.

Yelp
The best donuts in Detroit. It is our thanksgiving tradition to get looney baker and watch the parade on TV before I start cooking all day. I highly suggest this place

Jon S.

Yelp
MmmmmMmmMMMmmmm donuts. What is there not to like about this place? Friendly service makes this place extremely welcoming... Cinnamon rolls are A+... Apple fritters are large and in charge... The nutty donut is one of the best in town... A wide variety of donuts for not that much money... Right off the freeway... With a drive thru... ... !!!!! Some of the better sour cream donuts around. There are delectable cake donuts and glazed donuts to boot! If you are looking to complete a half dozen order, the crueller is light and fluffy! Just my last visit was met with kind smiles and caring service. As I was finishing up I noticed one of the workers filled up a medium coffee in a large cup for an individual with a cane, so they can be worry free of spills on the way out the door. It's these little things that never go unnoticed. There is some tables and counter seats inside, and this place is what a donut shop looks like, no other way to explain it- just come in and see for yourself! Ooo- Heads up on the one way (driveway) in and a separate one way out, only fits one car and can catch you off guard in the morning.

Corrie L.

Yelp
Please don't keep the gift cards in the office then leave the premises. I stopped in for a gift card today, October 7th, and the counter people were like ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Apparently, the manager had left for a long period of time leaving the gift cards locked in the office preventing me from purchasing one. Great bakery, though, and would recommend EVERYTHING except the gift cards.

Amber P.

Yelp
An L-Town favorite and quick stop before work! Bagels and donuts of all kinds and sizes go great with the Looney Baker black coffee. It's conveniently right next to the highway and a gas station, this place is open 24 hours with amazing staff ready to give you great service. No wifi available so it's not the greatest study spot but prices are cheap, free coffee refills when you have a seat inside and the locals are happy to share a table with you!

Kelly M.

Yelp
Easy to find, drive thru, and very quick. We ate most of the donuts Before I got a photo but they were delicious!

Sinny J.

Yelp
This place needs to step up in the bakery world! The graininess of the sugar in the icing is just not good! The coffee is even worse! Just NO!

Lisa A.

Yelp
My Looney Baker Experience on 9-3-2021 Let me begin by saying my 3 year old has LIFE THREATENING FOOD ALLERGIES (peanut and egg). She is currently receiving medical treatment for them and was just cleared for peanut cross-contamination - meaning we can now eat products that MAY contain peanuts or have come into contact with them. We wanted to celebrate this milestone with something good - and support small business owners. Before heading to the Looney Baker in Livonia (which was a 20ish minute commute) I did my due diligence and called ahead of time to ensure there was no egg ingredients in the yeast doughnuts- since my little one is not able to consume anything with egg in it. The girl who answered the phone put me on a brief hold, and came back to the line verifying there was no egg in those specific doughnuts. I told my little one we were headed to a bakery (our first experience ever) and we were getting celebration doughnuts for her and her friends. She was over the moon excited. Upon entering the bakery, I told the girl behind the counter I had just called a bit prior about the ingredients in the yeast doughnuts. I asked her again about the egg ingredients. She wasn't too sure ( but reassured the person I talked to on the phone had it right). Needless to say we filled up a box of a dozen "safe" doughnuts. A cinnamon roll caught my eye and I inquired about the ingredients in that one. The girl behind the counter told me the dough for the cinnamon roll was the same as the yeast doughnuts that we had a full box of. Something in my mom gut had her go check, yet once again. She came back and told me unfortunately ALL of the doughnuts had egg in them. I was completely shocked. How did it get this far? I was about to leave and I was so unsettled with this experience I walked back in to speak with the manager. When he came out from the back I told him how upset I was. I was shaking mad at this point - which was pretty obvious. I told him that I even called ahead about the ingredients. He told me when the girl who took my phone call asked him, he thought she was referencing the egg salad they make for lunch..... He admitted he was "too distracted with his phone" when she was talking to him and all he could muster up was a pathetic and unprofessional "sorry." It was as if it didn't even dawn on him that he could have sent my child into a LIFE THREATENING EVENT with his sloppy behavior. If it wasn't for me triple checking - something very serious could have happened to my child - and they would have had a bigger issue on their hands. Food allergies account for 1 in 13 children and unfortunately when you operate a FOOD ESTABLISHMENT you need to have some kind of protocol or procedure in place. This place had no labels or any reference sheets , absolutely nothing. The second we left there my little one immediately started crying for her doughnuts - not understanding what just happened- which of course caused me to start balling my eyes out. She was so crushed and all this could have been avoided if they didn't have such a careless manager. What was meant to be a celebration quickly turned into a nightmare. I never ever write reviews but this is something I am very passionate about - for obvious reasons. My child is set to be free and clear of ALL of her food allergies in less than a year and I would never entertain going back to this bakery ever again based off this experience. On a side note our family ventures to Kilwins in Plymouth quite frequently - which has peanuts all over the place- and we have never ever had any sense of uncertainty. Every time we go there, they show us the ingredient label, wash the ice cream scoop, and open a fresh carton of ice cream every time to make sure our little one is SAFE. We will stick with our @KILWINS. #neveragainlooneybaker #sloppymanagement #lackadaisicalteam #twothumbsdownlooneybaker #looneybaker #looneybaker #thelooneybaker #looneybakeroflivonia #worstcustomerservice #foodallergyawareness #foodallergymom #foodallergykid #peanutallergy #eggallergy #anaphylaxis #crosscontamination #kilwinsplymouthmi #kilwins #kilwinsforthewin

Yelp
By far the best Apple fritters I have ever had. Their cinnamon rolls are great too. We have come here for year when getting some delicious baked goods for work. Truly best donut shop in the area and best I've had. You will not be disappointed.

Andrew P.

Yelp
Selection of donuts and bagels is great. Enjoy the drive thru on busy mornings and always get a treat for the pups when they're in the car.

John W.

Yelp
Always delicious and always fresh best doughnuts in town. Friendly service and drive thru always fast

Daanno I.

Yelp
We tried them again at the drive thru yesterday 7/17/21 and got the same results. $2 apple fritters, not as big as they used to be and one had absolutely no apple, little cinnamon, and it looked like a taste-less pillow. It was a 50 cent donut at best - nothing special at all. The second one had one little tiny chunk of apple but at least it looked more like a fritter. Really, is that the best you can do? Do you save the rejects for the drive through customers? I feel ripped off! Everyone knows that an apple fritter should have apple and cinnamon and have crunchy crevasses with icing. WTF, if you forgot how to make one, get help. Did you fall & hit your head and forget what you were doing? Or are you cheeping out? Where is your pride? I've had a better apple fitter from Kroger- are you insulted yet? You should be. Don't sell a f---ed up product for premium price. Just because you can hide your f---ed-up product in a bag at the drive thru doesn't mean you should. You can't blame Covid for ripping people of with selling sub-par food. I hope the owner sees this and does something about it - get back to where you used to be- a quality baker who had pride in the products you make! If you are calling a $2 donut a premium one, then make it like you should and stop cheeping out and hire a baker that has pride and knows what they are doing. Get your game back - damn it! I have seen other reviews about your fritters - your customers notice when you screw up - now have some pride! I'll give you a couple weeks to figure it out and train your bakers. You have two strikes (more from others), don't get a third...
