The Loose Caboose

This is a Lafayette tradition brought back from hibernation. So much Lafayette bar scene nostalgia. I went there in the late 80s and early 90s. Walking back in felt like traveling through time. I love it. Definitely our go to spot to grab a drink and play some pool. Love that they have bands there. Saw a few great ones already.

Parking at this place is so misleading. Me and a bunch of others got towed for parking in the parking lot adjacent to the Caboose. One side has a huge sign you’d be an idiot to miss. The other opening has no signage. Yet they are towing people all the time (words of the R&R tow truck driver). They are making thousands a night off of people that park there. The sign they pointed me to was on a utility pole by the road, not in the lot, yet there is a no parking here to corner sign 15 ft in front of the tow away sign on the utility pole. This is crookedness and idk who owns the parking lot adjacent to the caboose. The owner of the caboose admitted there needs to be a sign and didn’t blame me for blowing up because I had an u expected bill of $300 to get my car back that night because it got towed. Called the cops to tell me how I parked illegally. Cop couldn’t tell me at all. He just said it’s a civil matter. If nobody is going to do anything to stop this crookedness from happening, I guess I will. I’m disabled too on top of it all. I can’t afford an extra $300 at the drop of a hat. What’s right is right and what’s wrong is wrong. This is wrong. Why even have that back open?? Why not just have one entrance, the one on the side of the front door of the Caboose has adequate signage. The back opening doesn’t. Only sign is 5x7 on a utility pole even with a no parking here to corner sign. If this happened to anyone else please reach out to me.

Not only does this place have a uniquely pleasant atmosphere, but the drinks and employees are pretty great as well!!!

My band RATH & The Wise Guys stopped here on tour and had a KILLER time. The owner put a ton of work in making it look and feel like the authentic old building it is. It's like something out of a movie for sure, and we will definitely be coming back!

Being 1000 miles from my hometown I certainly did not expect to find a place that made me feel so at home. Great people, great atmosphere, and cheap drinks are more than I could have ever asked for. Will definitely be stopping here everything I'm in town from now on.

Very COLD beer & live bands often! Each time we've come there's been several live bands playing back to back til around 1am & it's a quaint small place for all ages. The AC worked good and we enjoyed it! There's a section with pool tables in the back but we prefer to sit or stand near the bar! Matt, the singer of First Street Hooligans voice range is awesome & the band is Super Entertaining! Their energy has the place rocking with excitement Yes I'll go back!

A very cool gem with interesting history going back many decades, a cool vibe, great staff and a super rad owner. Love the crowd. A fun place to hang out.

I went here for the first time on 2/12/2011. For some reason it says that it is closed on yelp. It is not closed. This place is really cool. It looks like an old shack and it is quite large. We got here rather late, I was with a crowd of about 12 people. I wasn't here very long, but the crowd was interesting and the drinks were cheap. Also there were a lot of pool tables. Definitely want to go back.

Great bar on the Mckinley strip. It attracts a very diverse crowd and has great music and often very great live music. The pool tables and pool sticks are pretty nice. The drinks are cheap and unique. The McKinley strip is coming back and this is a place you should surely check out. Great people are devoted to keeping this bar open and keeping customers happy. I heard from a friend that they are currently renovating and the new management are very committed and ready to make a great place even better.
