10 Easy LA Day Trips For Hiking And Drinking

"There are three great breweries in San Marcos - Lost Abbey, Port Brewing, and The Hop Concept - and they’re all housed in the same warehouse. Lost Abbey is probably our favorite. It’s a Belgian-style spot that makes a few beers you can find in most bars in LA. But at the taproom you’ll find some of their strangest (and best) stuff, like Duck Duck Gooze, a blend of barrel-aged sours, and Bat Out Of Hell, a bourbon barrel-aged stout with tons of cacao and coffee flavor. Don’t leave without getting some Dank & Sticky, a Hop Concept IPA that’s, well… dank and sticky. Before you drink, though, get a hike in at Double Peak Trail, a 4.25-mile hike that starts in a residential neighborhood, and has lake views along the way to the summit." - brett keating

Google
Great new location for Lost Abbey. It has a very industrial vibe, like a real on-site brewery tasting room should have. You have to walk into the back room where you get to sit next to massive fermenters. Very unique experience to experience the scale of a large brewing operation up close. There are plenty of taps, and often, they have tasters for the beers they have in the fridge. This spot has PLENTIFUL seating for all size parties. They staff is exceptionally helpful and attentive. Great experience all around if you're a beer and brewery enthusiast. Outside food is welcome. Refrigerated bottles for sale as well.

Google
Their new tasting room is awesome! Located in the back of a different brewery, getting here gives some speakeasy vibes. But walk through the back door with the Lost Abbey sign, and you're right in a fully functional and operational brewery. Smell the yeast, taste the deliciously fresh beer. I recommend the various methods, one of the best IPA's I've ever tasted. Great sours too, with ghost in the forest on tap. They just opened their new spot here too, definitely worth checking them out!!

Google
This was a fun stop while Family was visiting in town. It had a great selection. We were able to sit at the indoor/outdoor table, which was perfect to enjoy the weather. Half of our group ended up choosing a flight, which was a perfect way for them to find their new favorite Lost Abbey brew!

Thomas Ferris

Google
Definitely the best brewery in the San Diego area and one of the best breweries on the planet. The Lost Abbey has written the book on mixed fermentation and wood aged beer in the US.

Nick Zynda

Google
Great to have a Lost Abbey off the 78 again! Always a treat to have their top tier Belgians on tap. Even saw Cuvee de Tomme and Duck Duck Gose there. They also have newer IPA options. Shared space with the original building owners, Mother Earth with their classic and experimental American styles. Beers average $8. NA drinks in cans. Minimal snacks. No frills, one stop brewery.

Ruben Muro

Google
If you are into craft beers this is a must-visit location, they were a little hard to find but decibel worth the search. I highly recommend the j.m.j. to my ipa friends and the Judgement Day to my Belgium friends. Tell Nick I sent cha.

Google
Second time coming and they aren’t open, no sign no instagram post no nothing

Brandon Lopez

Google
Definitely worth a visit. Great beers and even a food truck nearby if you’re feeling hungry.

Yelp
5/5 stars for Ambiance Drinks Customer service Me and a few friends stopped by and got a few drinks. We had a good time and got food from a taco stand that was outside. I would deff come back for a good time and good drinks.

Yelp
First time here as my son from Oregon wanted some good beer and pinball. This place had three breweries connected and a food truck for tacos. The place was really nice and great beer selection. 8 pinball, shuffleboard, golf sim, and fire pit. Fun evening just hanging out. Recommend.

Yelp
Eppig is growing since they opened in this Vista location and they are regularly having events like trivia nights, and monthly pinball tournaments. They have a good selection of beers, their own and other local brewers. There is usually a food truck/booth opened up on the weekends. I'm there at least once a month for the pinball tournament on the first Saturday of each month. It's awesome to finally have a north county location with a great lineup of pinball games. I enjoy stopping by for a few games and a beer or two. Definitely give it a try when you get a chance! Fun stuff!

Yelp
Great beer and views, awful park situation. Best suggestion, park and stop into Point Loma seafood for a quick sandwich and a bowl of chowder, walk around the front along the water to Eppig and grab a quick beer the. circle back around to your car (in less than 60 minutes, parking problem solved)..the perfect two for one.

Yelp
I've always loved this place and have been introducing new people there for years. Unfortunately, the customer skills of current employees may need some work! I visited today with two elderly family members, arriving 10 minutes before they opened (on a Tuesday). They were extremely reluctant to let us sit at a table (outside) waiting for them to open. One employee agreed, but then the other later felt a need to give a grown woman a mansplaining about "following their rules." There was clearly no cleaning / set-up happening outside... no inconvenience at all to let someone use their chairs. When you can offer flexibility and kindness to other human beings, you should do so. Its good for humanity and good for business!

Yelp
Great beer selection! Very happy to find our fave Second Chance beers on tap (we were regulars at the Carmel Mtn location until they closed) as well as Eppig (we go to the Pt Loma location as often as possible) and Mason Aleworks. Love the pinball games and golf lounge and the outdoor space, looking forward to returning with more time to spend there. Great service as well. Noted both a cider and a Japanese rice lager on menu which should work for those with gluten intolerance too

Yelp
Visited this place when it was first opening. I was traveling with family during the summer to LEGOLAND and made a pit stop here on the way home. They had an amazing selection of beer, the woman who helped us was amazing, and even thought the WiFi was out (no music) , they made conversation and were super attentive. The beer was awesome as well. My partner bought a t-shirt and they sold us some special merch since it was his birthday. Really looking forward to visiting soon!

Yelp
Found this spot on Yelp... lol Glad we came! Great atmosphere. Dude was super helpful in making a selection. Beer was great! The hubs found a German beer he like, lol! There are a few other breweries in the area so easy to do a small crawl. Great hidden spot to hit!

Yelp
This spot is a great place to have a nice beer or two, there are several different seating areas to pick from! I can't speak to their German brews, I'm an IPA girl and their 10:45 to Denver is one of my faves for an honest, hoppy Cali IPA. They crush it during an "event", the one time I was interested in Oktoberfest, we just grabbed my stein, and Nono's Bbq, and posted up at Dogleg. But every other time has been short waits for drinks, and excellent service, Last Thurs Dogleg had an event so Eppig was the mellow vibe. Bestie and I just wanted some BBQ and a quiet happy hour. JP was the beer tender, he was super friendly, took our orders quickly and was reallly engaged and fun with all of his guests. I've attended makers markets, charcuterie making events, and just random happy hours here. Great vibes, nice people and my fave, a solidly good IPA.

Yelp
Good location and nice atmosphere with a cozy fire pit, and the service was good. We ordered a flight of tasty beer, their sours were good especially the Moment of Weakness dark sour. The Point Loma location that I often visit also has a good selection of beers and is on the waterfront that I highly recommend.
google avatar

Justin F.

Yelp
One of the best breweries for specially lagers in San Diego. Stopped in to try their latest award winning beers.

Yelp
Really great tasting beer with a cool vibe. Service was awesome. Knew what beer I would like.

Yelp
This pertains to my visit at the North County Vista tasting room. Let me start by saying that I was here a few months ago and was very excited to return, and bring a good friend to share what was previously a very cool experience. The location itself is very cool, outdoor area with firepit and a great sunset view, pinball, pub games, foosball, lots of beers on tap, etc. Fast forward to this past Wednesday night (January 15, 2025) and I got there at 5:30 to find out they were doing trivia - cool! Well, there must have been something else going on because the number of kids ages 3 -"tween" was enough to entirely ruin an evening. My buddy ad I watched these kids running and screaming, trashing and slamming on pinball machines, sprawled out all over the golf simulator area, and finally trashed the bowling/pub table to where the parts were strewn about o the floor. No parental supervision, but worse... no attempt by staff to handle situation. I have three kids of my own, and I know this is always a sensitive subject, but to see unattended and unmanaged kids destroy property, and ruin the evenings of several patrons is a bummer. I exchanged comments with a couple of other customers like "we will not be back". Too many other options within a half mile to put up with this. Again, I so badly wish this wasn't the case. I love the golf simulators, pinball, the food truck was great, etc. but honestly, I couldn't get out of there fast enough. As far as the beer, I love the 10:45 to Denver - one my go-to's, but the Frosty the Hazeman was simply not very good (IMHO). Hope you guys get a handle on managing the clientele and perhaps have someone on site who can handle such situations but until then, I'm out.
google avatar

Darci M.

Yelp
These guys are brewing up some delicious brews and even a sour or two. Went there for an event and was very impressed. It was busy but still spacious! Pizza was being served out front and was super yummy with my IPA. It was an easy 4% so nice for slow sips with friends over our pepperoni pie We will be back to support for sure
google avatar

Eddie L.

Yelp
Went here after donating blood and this was the best hazy IPA i ever tried so we grabbed a couple and headed to the beach to enjoy

Yelp
The name isn't flashy, but the people are extremely nice, and the beer is good. I really can't ask for more when I'm looking to wind down and enjoy a pint (or more). There are a lot of things that I really enjoy about this location. The parking (there is enough), the location (great view of hills in a business park), the outside area, clean bathrooms, the staff and as I mentioned before, the beer. You can order pizza delivery too and there is your food option! They had sandwiches too (including a veggie option) but we did not eat. I met up with my sister and a close friend to try this place out and had a great time. Bryant (our beer adventure guide) was amazing. He knew his beer, and how to suggest what we would like. 1.Special Lager first. Very clean, easy drinking beer that some of the big guys wish they could make. I would drink this daily easily. 2. Pink Lemonade Kettle Sour. So good. Don't let the "sour" title fool you. When the summer hits, this will be better than a normal lemonade any day. Tastes very similar and that makes it a dangerous find! 3. Moment of Weakness Dark Am. Sour w/ Plum & Cherry. Yep there's the sour I wanted. Not crazy pucker ability, but wow this was sold. the cherry sweetened it every so slightly but it's a keeper! For a great place to drink and be merry, this is the place!
google avatar

Anna G.

Yelp
Appreciated the German names and styles, unfortunately, nothing stood out on two taster flights. Schwarzbier was most true to style, Plum sour interesting. Super friendly bartender and very elegant location.

Seven B.

Yelp
Oatmeal Stout is legitimately good. The Churro Seltzer is so good I'm kind of regretting saying I didn't like seltzers. I'm obviously gonna drink this whole pack

Yelp
Cheers to more craft beer to north county! Big beautiful spot at the end of a business park. The brewery has a nice outside area. Dog friendly. The new smell is still in full effect. Beers are pretty good. Their 10:45 to denver is good. I wanted to see more hazies. They have a lot of specialty lagers that are light and refreshing. Beers are about $7.

Yelp
Soft opening alert!!! Grand opening November 16th! Eppig Brewing from North Park has expanded to an all shiny, new, & impressively large space in Vista! This location will, in fact, become their new production facility. Along with making a whole lot more beer here than they did before in North Park, the taproom is already shaping up to be a really nice spot to come & enjoy their beers. Spacious, long bar with plenty of power outlets for devices, comfy couch & lounge chairs, as well as a chill looking outdoor patio are all already in place. Free parking is plentiful. But, as always, how is the beer? In a word, good. In 2 words, real good. Even at soft opening, there are 14 beers on tap. I've tried 8. All were solid examples of the respective style. So, for good beer, real good beer, Eppig Brewing's new location in Vista is totally worth checking out. No need to wait for their grand opening. They've already got a lot to offer.
google avatar

GT W.

Yelp
Extremely high-quality beer that seems to fly under the radar in San Diego. This is Eppig's new production facility and tasting room - a massive expansion compared to when I was first visiting them in North Park in an incubator/shared space. What makes Eppig amazing is that they make super clean, traditional styles and don't jump on the bandwagon with pastry stouts and hazy IPAs. They make the best lagers in San Diego County right now. They specialize in German-style beers, which is unheard of amongst the 150+ breweries in the county. They also make some wicked West Coast (clear) IPAs. But just about everything they brew is top-tier. I wish the beer was a touch cheaper - more at the Pizza Port price level especially given how Pizza Port has better locations and this is out in an industrial park.
google avatar

Caitlin E.

Yelp
We recently had our wedding at Eppig and from start to finish every single employee we interacted with was truly awesome and SO helpful!! The day went so smoothly and we couldn't have done it without the Eppig staff who were more than accommodating. Huge shoutout to Britten who was always super responsive leading up to our wedding day and went above and beyond to ensure everything was set up and went smooth. Whether you're planning a wedding or another other kind of event, or just want a cool brewery to visit, Eppig should be at the top of your list! Nothing but good things to say!!

Vishal D.

Yelp
Respected the implementing of COVID protocols, and the spacing in seating. Enjoyed the ambiance, the friendliness of the staff, and the long list of options available. It was a great experience from walking in - the parking was seamless, unlike most places, and we were greeted by smiling faces. The food was delicious, and the recommendations for drinks were spot on based on what we liked. Would highly recommend this place.
google avatar

Addy W.

Yelp
There was a maker's market happening and after viewing the different vendors decided to grab a drink here. While in line was looking at the options. My friend pointed out that sour I was interested in said "milk fat" which we thought was weird since we never thought beer had dairy in it.... So when it was finally our turn I asked the lady and she stated that they used yogurt in their sours...Since I have a dairy allergy I asked if they had any " dairy" free options, to which she replied she didn't know. So as you may have guess... We didn't get a drink here. The other issue I had was that they didn't offer any food... I know that's the "new" brewery thing... but when you're in an industrial area it would be nice for customers to be able to grab a bite while they drink. I mean there was no food spots in the whole area.... But yet 3 breweries right next to each other. Totally strange to me. Based on the menu and service I most likely won't be coming back here

Yelp
I visited this brewery when the Vulcan Mountain Boys played on a Friday evening. I found the establishment to be clean and well maintained. It's a newish brewery that was decorated to look older. There was a large selection of craft beers . They had no food for sell but there was a food truck that sold pizza. I passed on the food truck due to the fact that they priced themselves out of my comfort zone. I called a few days earlier and Joe answered all my questions. He took time to research questions he was unsure of to be due he was giving me correct info. When I got there he remembered that I had called. Joe was on point when he recommended a beer he thought I'd like. Joe was friendly yet professional. He listened to my stories. The beer was a bit more than I like to pay due in part to the economy and also I'm used to American Legion drink prices. I will say that since the music was free it made beer price easier to swallow. With my glowing review you're probably wondering why 4 stars instead of 5. To be honest I actually thought of rating it 5 stars. The thing that seperated Eppig Brewing from 5 stars was that they didn't have affordable food on premises. I really really wrestled with this. Since they allow outside food in it in my thought some degree a mute point. On the other hand it would have nice to have an affordable meal while listening to the music. So, when they start serving affordable food or attract food trucks with reasonable prices I'll add that star where it truly belongs. I would definitely recommend this place to locals who enjoy craft beers. Not sure th a t I'd recommend driving an hour UNLESS they have live music.
google avatar

June M.

Yelp
Haven't had a beer here that isn't fantastic. Smokey the beer a personal favorite, but you literally can't go wrong. They're all exceptional examples of their type, from porters to ipa.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
Awesome large brewery in Vista! State of the art facility and tasting room. Great selection of German beers and even a sour and IPA available for the San Diego crowd. Outdoor seating with a fire pit. Food truck. Right next to Dogleg brewery. Would recommend stopping in. Their smoked beer was amazing.
google avatar

Bill V.

Yelp
When I first visited the new Eppig location in Vista in October 2019, I posted to Instagram that I felt like San Diego had entered a new era of craft beer, leveled up. I stand by that. This location is one of the best brewery tasting rooms you'll find anywhere, both for excellent beer and excellent design. The people who run the place are really nice, too. And the sunset from the patio...wow. Located close to Helia Brewing and the coming-soon Dogleg Brewing (and not far from a cluster of other craft breweries), the Eppig brewery triples the production capacity of their original North Park Brewery Igniter location (which will close at the beginning of December 2019) and gives them room to grow even further in the future. In addition to the patio and the main room, there is a "bierhalle" that will be an extra tasting room for busy nights, a special event space, and a natural home for Octoberfest celebrations--a natural fit for Eppig, since so many of their beers are German styles. Eppig is probably most famous for their lagers, but they make a diverse range of styles. There are 24 taps at this location. What makes Eppig stand out from many other breweries with a large tap list is that EVERYTHING they offer is made to perfection and delicious. In short, this is a MUST VISIT brewery.
google avatar

Greg B.

Yelp
Long time coming, finally last Sunday I visited Eppig with my son. Now, it's still in Covid times - seating only outside, no food requirements to drink beer, no cash is accepted (credit cards only), tables are sanitized between patrons, masks are required to enter and order beers, but the service is great and surprisingly it was not really busy around 3 PM, one hour after opening on a really hot day. Personally, I'm not a big fan of Western Coast IPA's, so the German influence in Eppig beers is OK with me, from the selection of Lagers I can recommend a Hoppy Pils DryHopped Pilsner.
google avatar

Alyssa N.

Yelp
Great beer, nice outside patio area, dogs welcome - what's not to love! Recommend the Oatmeal Stout and "The Special" beer.
google avatar

Ed M.

Yelp
I Love Sour Beers! One of my favorites is Eppic Brewery in Vista.of you enjoy Sour Beer Eppic is a must do!

Bernd P.

Yelp
We tried two of their brews: Kölsch and Radler. Both lacked freshness and tasted rather stale. Prices are high ($9 for a Radler, which has lemonade is ridiculous). Outside sitting is next to a parking lot with airplanes flying overhead to Palomar airport. We won't come back.
google avatar

Gus L.

Yelp
Eppig has a great new spot here in North County. I can say I am glad as I am a big fan of their beers and their other spots. On opening weekend they have a great selection of beers already flowing. The variety and consistent taste is one of the things that keep bringing people back to Eppig. You can get a lager, a classic pale ale, or something outside the box and it will always be consistently good. Cheers!

Yelp
- Businesses operating during the pandemic, "Thank You" review #11* - Who: Eppig Brewing What: Alcohol has been pretty essential for me during the pandemic. I'm literally counting the seconds till 5pm each day and Eppig's International Lager has by far been my beer of choice. You can get 32oz crowlers, cans, or bottles here and I highly recommend a purchase from the taproom instead of picking up beer from a liquor store. Breweries are hurting through this and we need to support them now more than ever. When: This Week's Vista Pick-Up Hours: Thursday & Friday 2-6pm, Saturday 1-5pm, but call to make sure before you do. Additional: You can also pre-order through the website if you don't want to have human interaction with anyone. Guessing a phone call might be a nice change of pace for you though. You can also leave gratuity for staff on the site. - *As long as the world is in an unpredictable place with the coronavirus dictating our lives and schedules, I'm going to review businesses who are still operating to provide us some sense of normalcy, and this is one of those reviews. My reviews will be 100% positive when clearly indicated with the "Businesses during the pandemic" header and footer. Feel free to steal the format and do the same for the hard working businesses that you come across. - Danny W

Yelp
Not a very big selection and the place was cold and very warehouse like and the beer was meh. Better off going next door to their neighbors Dogleg, good beer and very welcoming atmosphere.
google avatar

Chuck V.

Yelp
Great selection of fantastic beers and an event space to die for! Beautiful spot for a wedding & there was a wedding show when we were here.
google avatar

Jane D.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my visit today - nice outdoor patio! Nice vibe, great beers :) Staff very attentive to keeping the place clean and sanitized with all the Covid 19 concerns.

Dre V.

Yelp
Such a cool place to chill and have a beer! The beer is phenomenal. The staff was great, Haley at the bar was super friendly and helped recommend beer (10:45 to Denver) and was spot on! Definitely will be back again!
google avatar

Yelp
What a great new addition to Vista! Friendly & knowledgeable staff (shout out to Bryant, Joe & Lucia!) Tasty beers & great atmosphere!

Yelp
Beautiful and different setting for a brewery. Love bear and love seeing the ocean- perfect match. Oh and the beer is great!

Mark B.

Yelp
Literally one of SDs best kept secrets! Parking is tough but the atmosphere and quality of beer is worth it!

Yelp
Cool new brewing location and tasting room in North County, as always excellent beer.
google avatar

Tony V.

Yelp
My favorite brewery in North County. Every beer I've tried here has been really good and they always have some German inspired varieties, my favorites. I've never seen it obnoxiously crowded like some places and they're good about Covid precautions without being obnoxious. There's a nice little outdoor area with a fire pit and heaters. Dog friendly too. And the people are always friendly and welcoming. A great place to drink a beer and chill.
google avatar

Hillary A H.

Yelp
let me say i am not a beer fan, but i went with my husband because he does. i asked if they have anything other then beer because i don't like the taste. they poured me a small thing of one of their sours. It was soo good and tasted nothing like beer. i ended up drinking 2. location has tons of parking and great views. plus every day is a different food option. brought our young kids and it was super easy. will be going back for sure!
google avatar

Tyler G.

Yelp
Best beer in San Diego and a really nice spot along the bay. Kolsch, Schwarzbier and Vienna lager are excellent

Ashley E.

Yelp
Super cool place. Great beer. Yelp said they were open until 10pm but when we got there right before 7pm, a beertender said they close at 7pm. We showed them their Yelp page that said they're open until 10pm and he said they're not in charge of their Yelp yet. As we were walking out, that same beertender came running after us apologizing and offering to pour us a beer. We accepted, because who wouldn't, and it didn't disappoint. That's the exact customer service I expect and love. Way to go, guys!

Philip J.

Yelp
I have been here and the one in San Diego few times. Never a good experience. The staff is unfriendly and have the attitude of why did you come here! Go somewhere else, there are so many good breweries around.

Jesus P.

Yelp
Great beer and a great location that they picked to be settled in. Very relaxed and mellow place to come visit to have a beer and relax. Great selection of beer
