18 Places in Colorado to Discover Local Culture–From Past to Present

"Part movie theater, part live performance venue, and part art gallery, the ever-evolving Lyric’s look is curated by an eclectic owner and an in-house Art Czar.  Featuring the best outdoor patio views of the mountains in town, the whimsical artwork of the Lyric spills out onto the lawn and becomes a playground for kids and adults. Hosting a variety of events ranging from live music, DJs, stand-up comedy, local food dinners, costume dance parties, and circus performers, the Lyric is a hub for all that is odd in northern Colorado. Weekend mornings at the establishment comes with cartoons and an all-you-can-eat cereal bar. First established in 2007, the Lyric has held a few spaces in the community, first in a small downtown rental, then temporarily in a Masonic temple, and now on the north end of the town among taco trucks and a bowling alley. With its final move, the Lyric has leaned in hard on its eccentricity and cemented its status as an institution in the town." - ATLAS_OBSCURA

We absolutely love The Lyric in Fort Collins. It’s such a fun, eclectic space—it seriously feels like an adult jungle gym. You can watch a movie from a school bus, hang out on the lawn, catch a sound bath with Cosmic Heart Arts, or wander through an art show. They’ve always got something cool going on—movies, community events, live music—and the whole place just has great energy. The food is pretty solid, too, which makes it even easier to spend hours there. It’s hands-down one of the most creative and unique spots in town.

Google
Unique, beautiful, and fun! Love all the art displays and the theater itself is comfy with tons of food options. It only has 3 showing rooms but each one is so beautifully designed and themed. Definitely recommend it!

Google
What a cool place! We coordinated a wedding here and it was so much fun. The staff was very kind and hard working. I loved the wild aesthetic and the magic when the sun went down.

My third Candlelight concert definitely did not disappoint. The Range Ensemble performed Vivaldi beautifully. The Lyric was a fun, quirky place to experience their magic. Wish I could make it to all of the concerts in all of the unique venues.

What a cool spot! We came here for a comedy show and had a great time. Cocktails are sugary but was expected.

Google
Amazing atmosphere, interesting pizza. The theaters are small and cozy, but the seats don’t have the tallest headrests so you can’t lean back that much. The sound quality is awesome and the seating allowed me to see over peoples heads which is a win in my book! Definitely coming back sometime.

Terry Campbell

Google
If one ever has the opportunity to attend a live performance by Range Ensemble at a Candlight event, I highly recommend it. We have attended two of these events and have enjoyed both. The first was a performance of classical music by Vivaldi, which was quite moving. The second was their performace of music by Adele which was quite remarkable and equally enjoyable.

I adore this place! Its my main reason for coming to Fort Collins. The Saturday Morning Cartoon event and the Drag Brunches are my absolute favorite, top recommended things to experience there!

Yelp
Cool place. So much to see. We thought this was just a comedy house. Wrong. It's so much more. Movie theater, outdoor movies, food, bar, pinball and an eclectic display of nonsense and just plain cool stuff. Great place to spend some time at.

Yelp
Came by last weekend for a grad party. I'd never been to this place before but heard great things. They let us reserve the space for my friends daughter for two hours and it included pizza I believe. It was thin sliced kind of NY style. Everyone there was so nice and helpful. There's a cute play area outside for the kid and this little mini golf section. There's also some arcade games and movie theatre inside as well. They serve food and drinks (alcoholic and non). The decor was interesting to say the least! Everyone had a great time.

Yelp
Super fun setting to grab a bite, go to the movies or socialize. Had the BEST BLT with fig EVER. Absolutely to die for!

Yelp
Yep! I'm Here for The Lyric. From community/stand up comedy to hosting local art, I am a fan. parking is something I'm still learning to navigate being a newbie. I'm Aware there's another lot As I've seen the signs. However, I'll be honest, at times I did not have the patience or capacity to find the other lot when I've arrived to the theater alone in the past - esp with it being dark thirty and me traveling solo. I hope to visit during the day so it might feel less intimidating. Still, I give this charming spot 5 stars for the creativity and art inspo I feel after leaving the venue.

Yelp
Fun place. Kids enjoyed it. I haven't taken in a movie yet but will on my next visit.

Yelp
Well I have mixed feelings about the lyric for various reasons but going to write based off my recent experience. Took my husband to see the Whale at the lyric. I have not been there for about 4 years and they have done a little bit of renovating since then. 1. You can easily order tickets in advance online. I got mine on fandango. Super easy. Was also able to pick seats in advance. Of course at the time had no idea what the inside of the theater was really like. 2. limited and tight parking. But if you can't park in their lot. you could park across the street at Jax. 3. Staff was friendly and very helpful 4. Their menu is clearly labeled for gluten free, vegetarian and vegan which is always nice! They also have some alcohol if that is your thing. I ordered a hot tea and then some french fries. My husband got a soda and some candy. They give you a number if you order something that needs cooked and you will come and grab it from the kitchen window when its done. 5. walked back to the theater. We were in the tiki room. It used to be a lot of couches. Now it was 2 couches and some movie theater seating. Howevr that seating was very very tight. The only way to get in and out was on one side. So if someone gets there late or later than you than you have to constantly stand up and have people crawling over you. Also it was so tight, if you are a bigger person like my husband, there is not a lot of room. He needed the arm rests on both sides just because there was no way for him to contort his arms to not be there. The lady on the other side of him seemed annoyed. I was more annoyed that we were crammed in and there were several people in there coughing and hacking. ugh! If you are sick stay home! Anyhow there are 3 rows of theater style chairs that is in there pretty tight. They did have what looked to be cool set ups for stuff outside but i didn't look much at that. If they were showing something i really wanted to see and no one else was playing it i would go back. or if friends really wanted to go there. But it would not be my first theater choice. i like comfy seats. But i do like the vibe at lyric.

Yelp
I love supporting local places and we've been fans of The Lyric since it's original location. We don't live right by downtown or we'd come more frequently. I love the funky vibe of this "new"/second location (they've actually been here a while now). We came over the holiday weekend for an afternoon showing. Overall a good movie experience. The only bummer was the 2 staff on this particular day were a bit off-putting. Not open to friendly questions/conversation and we just didn't feel welcomed. It's all good to want to have a cool vibe, but remember it's *always* cool to be kind, especially in this day and age. Hence 4-stars instead of 5. If not for our many previous good experiences it would be more of a 3 for this visit specifically. Theatre experience was great; that's what we came for on this visit. We enjoyed the comfy couch seating & having a cocktail with the movie. The well drink I ordered for $9 seemed a little weak, but it sufficed. We purposely chose to come up to the Lyric for this movie even though we could've seen it at a chain theatre closer to home because we want to support the local theatre scene. We will keep our fingers crossed that staff is more friendly next time we come in and that our recent visit was just an aberration.

Pin K.

Yelp
This review is for a free outdoor movie night, and mingling in the ordering/dining area and gift shop. I have not seen an indoor movie here. What a cool venue! So much of interest, including the gift shop and both indoor and outdoor "decor". Fun seating options for an outdoor movie. Great activities for tweens and teens. Food and drinks were good and staff was terrific. Can't wait to go again.

Yelp
What a freakin' gem, Ft. Collins! I'll admit, I am incredibly jealous you have this amazing little slice of creativity. I've been to plenty of independent cinema houses & none come close to the low brow, shabbiness this place has conjured up. Having seen two shows here this summer, in two separate cinemas I can say, both were enjoyable experiences. The staff here are always friendly - it's clean here & heck, even the food we ordered was on point. Not to mention they support locals artists, bands & a multitude of independent events here. I loved it! This is an amazing effort & coming from a fellow artist from a larger city - bravo!

Max W.

Yelp
It is the greatest theatre and institution in fort collins a true local cornerstone. I basically moved here for the lyric....

Yelp
This movie theater is so cool! It's got all the quirky elements of an avid movie lover in its decor, far more appealing to look at than the commercialized theaters. I came here to watch Everything everywhere all at once and could not have had a more fantastic experience. The food selection was great as well. chicken tenders are on the menu and so are sweet potato fries. Yum ! P.s. I also would like to add that my ticket sales representative was an amazing guy as well. He's super friendly and a great people person. Well done in regards to your hospitality!
google avatar

Yelp
I have never seen a theater like this. Such a cool hang out spot. Full of all the stuff that would make a first date a win. They had great photo ops, and live music, as well as a full menu and bar. The sculptures in the back are wonderful too, and like I said plenty of places to take photos of you and your friends or family. If I was a local this would be my standard date night for a first date. The only downside I saw was the couches in the theater are kinda low, and it was difficult for a big guy like me, and an elderly person like my wife's grandma, to get out of the seat. But it isn't really a huge deal. I mean where else have you seen couches IN the theater. It was also really cool that it was smaller so there wasn't a huge crowd. We saw Elvis, and it was the perfect movie in the perfect theater.
google avatar

Yelp
We needed to get out after a really busy school day with my grandson. We came to the Lyric so he could run around a bit outside So glad we did! This place is so super cool! He got to climb around outside and we all had a nice dinner. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Can't recommend this place more. The Lyric offers such a great vibe and a selection of movies. The live music that is booked here is always great, the open mic nights are heady and the people are fun. Gotta be a Fort Collins staple.

Yelp
I love Fort Collins, but I often say this town lacks funkiness. I don't mean the James Brown kind of funk, though personally I could always use some "Get Up Offa That Thing" on repeat. But the funkiness I'm talking about here is eclectic sculpture, bright colors, unconventional decor, mix-matched furniture. You know, the things that challenge convention and cause you to stop in your tracks to say "wow that's cool." A rare find in our town, you can find funkiness at The Lyric. If there's one thing I appreciate about this unique place, it's that it brings some oddity where it's needed (But there's plenty more than one thing I appreciate). Their outdoor movie setup is great and never short of a fun time. Pull up a camp chair or sit down in one of the patio chairs provided, and enjoy. Better yet, grab a beer, popcorn, candy, or a full on dinner entree to indulge in during the movie. I haven't tried their food yet but was surprised to see vegan options including a tofu Bahn mi on the menu! Next time I'll be sure NOT to eat before I go. I've only ever been to The Lyric for movies, but at my last visit I questioned why I do that when it's such a rad place to grab a beer and just hang out! If you're looking for me, I'll be among the sculptures, New Belgium Juicy Haze in hand.

Michael A.

Yelp
Good movie line-up, and other nice events like showing Avalanche hockey games on the big screen. BUT, their food service is a complete disappointment. I was last there about 4 years ago, and have been back after a truly bad meal delivered ate with a snear. Recently I went back, and was served a "Cuban" sandwich that was really just pulled pork and cheese on the bread. The sandwich was BURNT! So Ok for eclectic movies and events, but just say no to their food.

Yelp
Tired of stadium seating in theaters? Getting sick of loud state of the art sound and large movie screens? Just want an old-fashioned movie experience? The Lyric is the place for you! In all seriousness, it's a nice change of pace for movie-going! Parking is not plentiful and you may need to find a spot across the street and walk over. The space is small and designed for a more artsy experience. The movies that are available here are typically ones that have been out for a while. I've been here a few times for movies and many times for quiz. I enjoy coming here for both. The service is always good, they always have good beers on tap, and the food is good too! You can eat an entire meal here or just grab the movie basics. I enjoy the beer and pretzels and I have them regularly when I come for Geeks Who Drink quiz on Sunday nights. I see movies fairly often in the theater and I've been to all the theaters in town. This is not the best typical cinematic experience you can find in Fort Collins, but that is not the point. There is a great vibe to this little gem if you enjoy a refreshing, casual feel to cinema. During the summer they have movies outside on a very large screen and a wonderful grassy area to sit and relax. If you haven't come here yet, you need to!
google avatar

Samantha H.

Yelp
Funkiest Patio and Place in Town with various fun seating options in and outdoors. You can see movies on the outside lawn or 3 indoor theaters, catch live music/trivia, or just hang out for a beer and great variety of food!
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Had such a wonderful time....the craziness just keeps coming. A movie theater dressed up like a restaurant, bar, music venue all in an Alice in wonderland dream. Staff was super friendly, no bad seat in the theater...(don't reach under the seats. ). Can't wait to come back...
google avatar

Liz M.

Yelp
I've been here multiple times for a plethora of different events including friends concerts and movies! My favorite part about this venue is the creativity involved. Every inch of this place is covered with unique and beautiful art, most of which was created here in Fort Collins. The vibe of the crowds that come here is always so fun and spunky and I love that they serve beer and pitchers. Such a creative and beautiful piece of Fort Collins, wouldn't be the same without it!!

Anne M.

Yelp
Arrived at 2:30 for a 2:30 movie (15 min of previews). Got to the head of the line at 3. No other movie was playing within hours. Somehow the restaurant, bar, popcorn, and tickets were at the same counter--the former ticket counter is now a huge gift shop? This seems to be functioning well as a hip meeting spot and not at all as a movie theater.

Nolan S.

Yelp
My wife and I saw Stop Making Sense on the big screen at the Lyric last week. It was our first time there, and we really enjoyed it. We were in "the mothership" theatre, which has a mix of auditorium seating and couches. The couches were black faux leather, and they appeared pretty clean. Tickets were totally reasonable, beer and food was also not outrageously priced, and the staff were really friendly. I love how quirky the place is. I'm sure the picture and sound quality aren't as good as a big corporate theatre, but it's way better in just about every other way.
google avatar

Kim B.

Yelp
The new paintings and the line of doors are a great addition to The Lyric! They keep adding things every time we are there, from the line of doors, to new art inside to a lion statue and even a school bus that you'll be able to sit in.
google avatar

Caitlin H.

Yelp
The best movie place I have been to. Great outdoor space for live music and movies. They play new, popular movies, Indie movies, documentaries...I have been to an event where they had the director there to answer questions from the audience. What an awesome atmosphere, and great food and drink options. Can't get better than this!
google avatar

Bruce E.

Yelp
Great redesign during COVID. Great spacing and outdoor events. The best films and a great bar. There popcorn is awesome. And chicken fingers. I would stick to these menu items. I am a fan!

Anna S.

Yelp
Came here for the first time to see the Barbie movie and it was amazing!!! I was so impressed at how fast lines moved even tho it was PACKED. Got there only a little early and still got a great couch seat in the theater. The food was honestly decently priced for a movie theater and the drinks were stellar. Loved the whole vibe of the theater. Def cheaper than the big chains, it was awesome seeing so many people supporting a local/indie cinema. Will be back for the outdoor summer movie series for sure!
google avatar

Matt F.

Yelp
The Lyric's new home is such a vast improvement over its previous home! The lobby is spacious and airy, (though by no means intuitive) and offers a concession area as well as a stand-alone bar area. There are a variety of seating options in the lobby, and there are garage doors that will provide a nice bridge to the outdoors in the warmer months. The theaters themselves are much more comfortable than the old location, while keeping the front rows as cozy seats (that look like former church pews) where one can sit next to one's companion without troublesome arm rests. The stadium seating is comfortable, though it's rather shy on legroom compared to other theaters.
google avatar

Yelp
I love the Lyric. The vibe. The staff. The selection. But I haven't been lately and dread the next visit. Why? One bad cashier. That's enough to dread a return visit. Apparently the clerk doesn't like AMEX. The owners must be OK with the vendor agreement (yes rumors of high vendor fees are true) because The Lyric accepts AMEX. But the clerk doesn't like it and he's unapologetic about it. I suggested he apologize for being so rude about the encounter and shockingly (ha!) I didn't get one. But The Lyric hasn't gotten my business since. It was such an awkward exchange and completely out of touch with vibe and policy at The Lyric. I miss The Lyric, but training staff to just chill out on AMEX and accept that owners make decisions for the bottom line, not staff. The funny thing is that on an earlier visit to The Lyric we were gifted free food. That sealed my loyalty until an employee decided that my question about AMEX should be challenged. The food we received was indeed a higher cost than the 3 or 3.5 percent fee collected. Such a bummer.

Yelp
A very creative funtastic eclectic comfortable energetic It offers much more than Film ... installation community & fresh beers . Yes the Popcorn is there bread & butter so like others $$$. U can tell the crew has Pride in their efforts & establishment.

Yelp
talk about your full service movie house! I walked in to a large room with restaurant, bar, snack bar and cashier. Ordered a hot dog and asiago fries before the movie. Enjoyed it in the restaurant until movie time, and then took into the theater, Out of doors there is a large movie screen with small screening room in a caboose type contraption. Chairs for watching in, plus lots of grass for spreading your blanket out. During warm months it must be a great place for films al fresco. Young, enthusiastic staff who obviously love their gig at this theater, Great place, a little out of the way, bur worth the getting there.

Mary Lynn S.

Yelp
movie tickets, 1 senior and 2 children 2 chicken tender and frie baskets, 1 Greek salad, 2 sprites $81.00!!! we ordered meal at 6pm , movie started at 6:45, finally got meals at 7:05. "we accidentally had the wrong # on your order, sorry" no offer to make it right. meals were cold, salad was greens with 8 olives and 1 Tbs. of feta. salad was $16. So disappointed. Won't be back! Also, the theater was filthy.
google avatar

Jean C.

Yelp
What a fun cinema! You buy your tickets and purchase wine and popcorn at the same counter. And they had real butter for the popcorn. Brought back memories! The theater was intimate and we watched the movie on a comfy couch.
google avatar

Danielle D.

Yelp
What a gem! Went and saw The Princess Bride on their outdoor lawn screen. We showed up an hour early which was perfect timing to set out a blanket to mark our spot and go get dinner from inside! As I'm trying to slowly go vegetarian, I got the tofu version of the Bahn Mi sandwich. It was amazing! The tofu was cooked to the perfect texture and had an awesome flavor! I highly recommend paying a little extra for any of their salads as your side, it was a surprisingly big portion and delicious! My fiancé got the sausage sandwich which he also throughly enjoyed. The outdoor movie screening was so much fun! Don't forget to bring an FM radio (or pay $4 to rent one there). They have a decent variety of canned beers you can drink on the lawn (no glass from inside) and their popcorn tasted way better than at big chain theaters! Makes me want to move to Fort Collins just to go here more often!
google avatar

Charlotte F.

Yelp
Amazing! So excited that their new location is open! Its so beautiful inside and warm and friendly as before. This is the best place to see obscure films, documentaries and indie films. Its my favorite theater in town! Plus the food is great and the beer and wine selections are fantastic!
google avatar

Yelp
I love heading over to the Lyric to see the latest fun, serious or offbeat films. Coming in early enough to relax in the bar/bistro offers an eclectic menu of food, craft beers, adult beverages. If you don't get there early, you can take your food into the theater with you. They also have Sunday music on the patio during summer with both a Bloody Mary and a Crepe Bar. Sounds like tons of fun!

Yelp
I was skeptical about the Lyric's move to North College. I thought it would be out of the way and separate itself too much from the walk around culture of Old Town. I no longer live in Fort Collins, but during a recent visit I saw two movies here. I am a fan of the parking. The Old Town location did not have that luxury. I like the updated rooms and increased seating. Larger interior space means less crowding, more beer, more snacks. All great improvements. What I miss about the old Lyric is the murals. There was something neat about every inch of the old box office (or what ever you call the part that is not the actual theater) being covered in classic movie imagery. I don't really like the D.Trump painting, not because I am a supporter, but it just adds to all the political smut being shoved down my throat on a constant basis. I came here for movies not more Trump hate. I love the variety of beer and the kitchen menu, great stuff. I like the theater themes. Just to complain, I did get super cold during one screening. I sat next to the wall, which did not seem to have much insulation, and directly under an AC vent which blew on me for most of the movie. I was shivering for the better part of the 2 hour film. (This was in December) The tiki room also smelled kind of like sweaty teenagers, but that may have just been from the crowd there at the time. Overall, good improvement. I wish the Lyric the best of luck. North Fort Collins needed a theater and the growth of the Lyric and increase of movie variety is a welcome addition.
google avatar

Liberty J.

Yelp
I love the venue and atmosphere. There's nothing better than a beer or kombucha, bbq tofu bhan-mi or sandwich + sweet potato fries, taken into the theater (especially in "the big one") and enjoying it while watching a movie on one of their lush couches. An experience to remember and savor! Their vegan chocolate desert is a bit small for the price, but otherwise very satisfying.

Yelp
We drove 45 minutes to get to The Lyric to see a movie that wasn't showing anywhere else near us. I arrived before the rest of my group so I asked the cashier how many tickets were left because I didn't want the tickets to be sold out when the rest of my group arrived. She wouldn't tell me how many tickets were left, so I bought mine and hoped that there would be tickets left when my group arrived. They arrived just a few minutes after me but the tickets were already sold out by that time. If I would've known there were only a few tickets left when I bought mine, I would've bought tickets for the rest of my group but she wouldn't tell me how many were left so I had to return my ticket and we drove all the way back home. An hour and a half drive for nothing that could've easily been avoided if the cashier would've helped me out with some simple information.

Yelp
The Lyric Cinema Cafe is an intensely hypocritical and inevitably horrible experience. It presents itself as the owners and many patrons undoubtedly perceive it: an arthouse theater that offers a break from the bigger, "corporate" theaters. Theaters which, admittedly, are not playing the arguably incredible films that the Lyric has to offer. Unfortunately, this is where any and all praise must end. The Lyric is a place that wants you to think it cares about film. Almost crushingly, this could not be further from the truth. As soon as you step past its indie veneer, the Lyric slaps you in the face with a blatant disregard for film and the movies it shows. The theater rooms are small, dirty and shoddily conceived. The sound is piped through appallingly cheap, oddly quiet speakers. The projectors would be embarrassing at a quaint family gathering hosted by your most technologically illiterate relatives, and a better viewing experience could be had by sitting in a dark room with an iPhone 4S. That the Lyric has the audacity to show *any* film so uncaringly, let alone the caliber of cinema on which it prides itself so much, is blatantly insulting to the creators of such content. Were the likes of Wes Anderson or Quentin Tarantino to discover that their films were being displayed in such a callous, disrespectful and uncaring manner, one can only imagine how overwhelmingly negative their reaction would be. The Lyric Cinema Cafe is a pathetic, lazy cash grab shrouded by a veil of arthouse ambiance.

Rick C.

Yelp
I love the Lyric for its excellent selection of films, for its policy of letting you drink and eat while enjoying its films; but last night I have very distasteful experience around the quality of its food. Basicallly: their nachos suck. I paid $7 for what I thought would a good helping of vegetarian nachos. In less than two minutes after placing the order, it was served up -- but what a disappointment! The chips looked like they dug up from the bottom of an old bag, the lightest scattering of melted cheese covered the middle of these old chips, and likewise only a sparse serving of salsa. In other words: these nachos really sucked. If you order *any* food there, I would grill the server beforehand on how they make it -- and complain loudly if it does not please. For me that night, it was too late, and too busy, to back to the concession stand and complain -- though I should have.

Yelp
One of my FAVORITE places in Fort Collins. The staff are always top-notch, friendly and helpful. The movies are so on point--it's the only theater where I see the previews and feel like I need to come back and see Every. Single. Film. The new location is gorgeous, and I love the expanded lounge and bar. The parking lot is a little on the small side for the number of people the theater can sit, but, hey, it's Fort Collins so I'm thankful they have any parking at all. Getting a beer or a coffee and watching the films you can't see anywhere else, what could be better? Oh yeah, and everyone should go see Loving Vincent before it closes! That movie is DOPE AF.

Yelp
This place is an interesting one... I can't really say I had an overall bad experience here but I feel like it could have been much better if the owners actually cared more about your movie viewing experience and not the ambiance of the place. The Lyric claims they have "food" but all it is are a few sandwiches like grilled cheese, tuna, humus on a bagel and then the normal movie theater fare. Kinda like what you would expect from a coffee shop or something similar. It would work as more of a snack but nothing meal worthy. Their menu is also no where to be found on their website. If I would have not gotten food beforehand and went here I probably would not have been too pleased. They do serve alcohol which is kind of nice Can't go wrong with a movie and a beer. They have a few decent craft beers on tap and some new belgum bottles that you can buy. The theater's ambiance is interesting. Very colorful with lots of art painted all over the walls with lots of movie stuff all over the place. Kind of a cross between the hippie movement and modern art. This made the place very inviting and may have been the best part of the whole theater. And now... Here is where it all falls apart. The viewing experience. The place has 2 theater rooms. My movie was in room 1 which seems to be the main larger room. Everything about the actual movie viewing experience is awful. The screen is small, maybe 80-100 inches. Its tilted at an angle, not straight on to the seats. The sound is mediocre because they use cheap speakers, and the movies stutter and don't play smoothly. All of this completely ruined the experience for me. I have had better experiences at friends in home theaters. I did poke my head into theater 2 and it looks like it might be better, but it's smaller. The screen looked a bit bigger and was straight on. Looked like it used the same speakers and projector setup though so it probably still sounds bad and has stuttery video. It seems like so much time and effort was put into the rest of the place that there was no time or consideration or money left for the viewing experience. The place is definitely neat and a good concept but I went here hoping to experience a famous movie from the 80's in all of it's glory at a theater and I left feeling like I would have been better off watching it at home on netflix.

Yelp
This theatre ROCKS. It is not a big megaplex with your run of the mill cookie cutter movies. It showcases indie movies, beer, and wine--adding a bit of culture to Fort Collins. What I enjoyed best about this place is the fact I can have a beer and see a movie with on the couch in an chill environment. When was the last time you saw a movie in a theater on a couch? 5 Stars with a splash of enthusiasm for Lyric Cinema.

Yelp
Sometimes the lyric shows some off the wall and good indie films you wouldn't be able to see anywhere else in Fort Collins. I applaud them for this. My bone to pick with the Lyric is that the staff moves like pond water and they are usually complete dicks. I'd like to slap a few in the head with a broom handle. Too much 'hipster' attitude. Straighten out your staff and it will be a much better place. Otherwise, how much better can you get when you can sit on a couch, drink beer and watch movies.

Yelp
I've only been to Lyric twice and have seen both pros and cons. Each time I went, I had an "issue". The first time, the sound of the movie was WAY too loud... my ears hurt the entire movie. The second time was during the summer and it was absolutely freezing in the theater. My friends and I could not wait to walk outside and get warm again... and everyone else in the theater was talking about how freezing it was as they walked out (I believe someone did mention something to an employee who said she turned the A/C down...but it never felt like it!). However, there are some great things about the theater as well. They show great movies that many other theaters don't. They offer many other things that traditional movie theaters don't offer, such as wine and beer, and couches and chairs to sit in during the movie. The regular seats are crowded and not very comfy, but that's to be expected in an older non-traditional theater. The theaters are also very small compared to a traditional theater. If you're looking for a very casual place to have a drink and see a movie, then this is the place for you!

Yelp
Today I decided never to visit The Lyric again. I've been there 4 times and have never been impressed. On 2 occasions the staff was very unfriendly and patronizing. I like the movies they show but I hate to hear the trucks rumbling by outside during the movie. You'd think they would take better care in soundproofing since they seem to care about the art of film, but it's not the case. I'll be going to The Kress in Greeley from now on. The management and staff appreciate my business there.

Yelp
Maybe I'm a jerk. Ok, I'm a jerk. I went back here to see Coco Before Chanel, and I ended up having a lot of fun. I think I've discovered the trick to this place: imbibing many beverages. The seats are still not that comfortable, and the staff would rather talk to their friends than handle your needs, but... ok... maybe that is part of the charm. In truth, my high fidelity quip from my previous review was right on. And, sometimes you're in the mood for that sort of jibe-y banter. Sometimes not. The staff needs to know their audience. Also, kudos to being the only theater in town playing A Serious Man. Why no other theater jumped on the Coen Bros band wagon is... crazy to me. But, I guess that makes Lyric somewhat avant-garde, eh?

Yelp
Oh my gosh, one of my favorite places. I'm sure there are plenty of reviews. My list of comments: - movies rotate frequently which is nice - a well maintained pinball machine is on-site - craft beer available (as well as wine) Perhaps the most underutilized thing here is all the seating space. They have a downtown location, indoor and outdoor seating and pretty extensive open hours. I can recommend using this place as a rendezvous spot, a place to sit and talk, etc.

Yelp
I've been going to the Lyric since it first opened, back before Fort Collins became Hipsterville. Loved the old place. Now I'm a grey-haired retiree who loves the new place. Thank God for the roominess of the new lobby. It could take forever just to get a ticket in the old one. The food now has a real cafe taste--check out the breakfast burritos! The films are still the quality films and genres I want to see, now in much improved theaters. But best of all is the improved service. I am so used these days to the eye-rolling sneer or the patronizing pat on the head my grey hair often engenders from the younger crowd. But I rarely get either at the new Lyric. I am not your grandma, and I am still interacting in the same world you are. Thanks for treating me as a welcome peer. The Lyric continues to evolve and innovate, providing a creative venue not just for movies, and not just for the young and tragically hip crowd. The Lyric is a bright spot in our rapidly changing town.
