Google
This was our first visit, and we really enjoyed seeing a show here. It is standing room only except for a few seats in an upper balcony, which was awesome. There was a private bathroom and bar up there. The bartender was very sweet, attentive, and talkative. Very nice venue for smaller shows where you're up close to the performers. We will be back for sure.

If you don't know Alestorm, they are awesome live! First time in the US, last time was in the UK, this was just as awesome! Very intimate setting, very warm inside, but pretty awesome setting.

The Majestic Theater in Detroit offers an unparalleled entertainment experience that captivates audiences from the moment they step through its doors. With its rich history and charming ambiance, the theater stands as a cultural gem in the heart of Detroit. From the grandeur of its architecture to the warmth of its welcoming staff, every aspect of the Majestic Theater exudes a sense of elegance and charm. Whether you're attending a live concert, a theatrical performance, or a special event, you're guaranteed to be enveloped in an atmosphere of excitement and anticipation.

I had such a great time. Perfect smaller venue. They had Liquid Death water which I really liked.

If you're wondering about the mezzanine, it's stage leftup along the wall. The view is great, it has a private bar and bathroom. Highly recommended

Google
Great event space. There is almost always something going on there. The space is one large room with a beautiful ceiling, nice lighting, and easily accessible bar making it a great spot for concerts. They also have a bowling alley in the back which is a nice spot to hang out.

Google
My girlfriend and I attended a show at Majestic Theatre and we were not impressed. You guys have a dive bar atmosphere, with absolutely nowhere to sit down, not even ADA. On top of that you're charging $40 a ticket. Primarily alcohol sales. The place was clean, but the atmosphere and management is terrible. I won't be coming back Story of the Year was awesome.

Rick W.

Yelp
Great venue with a cool atmosphere. The staff were very helpful and professional. Very good acoustics. The club has a mezzanine level with limited seats for an additional fee.

Brendan D.

Yelp
The staff work very hard and are very nice. They went out of their way to help me find ear protection when I was getting overstimulated from the noise. I noticed one staff was very sweaty and tired so I brought her some napkins. 10 minutes later she offered to buy me a T-shirt from the band playing. What lovely people! Fantastic experience, 10/10.

Anthony E.

Yelp
One of my favorite venues in the city for a concert! There isn't a bad "seat." The stage is a great height so that most people should have a good view of the show. The only time it's a little rough is during a sold out show, but that is to be expected, especially if you're vertically challenged.

Carl O.

Yelp
After two decades in Detroit I went to my first show here this past weekend despite hearing not great things. The acoustics were pretty bad and the venue allows in more people than can comfortably stand inside. Most crowded venue I've been to. The drinks were severely marked up, a PBR that's 1.99 at a gas station is $11 and it gets worse from there. The icing on the cake was I'd been waiting a while to see this band and they didn't even set up merch because even though it was a sold out show the venue demands 20% of merch sales and they couldn't justify taking the hit. I'll not be back.

Tiana T.

Yelp
I went to this venue to attend a concert. There wasn't clear direction on where to go once inside. Fortunately when the concert ended I noticed the merchandise table before exiting the venue to make a purchase. The concert was very enjoyable and I would return to experience another show there.

Kombucha M.

Yelp
I saw Mayhem and Midnight with my boyfriend and his friends. Truly a memorable experience. I can't wait to come back and see Exodus in May!

Lauren T.

Yelp
Nice theater with great acoustics and high drink prices but that's expected. Love the architecture. Decent bathrooms

Yelp
If you haven't been to Midtown in awhile, you are missing out on some fantastic nightlife. Walk Off The Earth show brought us to the theater on a Thursday night. In planning our visit and parking, we discovered that this is a great place to hang out. Lots do and see within walking distance. Hit happy hour, have dinner, then catch a show at the Majestic. The venue is large but not so large as to have seats. Standing room only, unless you are special enough to get some of the tables in the back by the sound board. Drinks are reasonably prices and they sell pizza. The restroom (ladies at least) has an attendant to keep people moving along and the facilities clean. They only downside was that we were standing on concrete for 4 hours. No where to sit, even for a minute. We would surely visit this venue again but maybe not get there so early next time. There is a bar/cafe attached to the venue - though their menu is not online, therefore, we opted to dine elsewhere, not knowing what to expect. The bowling alley attached is interesting. Can't say there isn't a lot to keep people entertained. We found a spot for street parking - max 4 hours, but you can renew your parking online. Parkdetroit.us The Majestic website says parking is free until 4:30pm, in their lot. Not true. We couldn't FIND their parking lot, but our friends did and was charged $10 at 4pm. Our street parking costs $5 for the evening. All in all a great venue, neighborhood, parking and value.

Yelp
BEWARE TRANSPHOBIC BATHROOM ATTENDANT. The staff here has never been my favorite group, but they have bafflingly gotten worse. Came for a punk show. Someone had posted all gender use signs on the restrooms below the original men/women signs. My transmasc friend entered the first bathroom he saw at the same time as another masculine looking person to be greeted with "GET OUT! THE MENS BATHROOM IS OVER THERE!" Obviously shook him up a bit but he's a good sport and just took the piss and left. Throughout the night anytime one of us went to the restroom labeled "women" we could hear the attendant verbally berate those coming in to use the bathroom. What a hostile, self-important person to think they're the police of what's in your pants. Understand your demographic. Punks don't care who's in the stall next to them. We are all just trying to pee and get back to the show.

Yelp
OPEN DURING RENOVATIONS, didnt bother us!! Impressed with the updates Thus Far!! Enjoyed the Arms Wide Open evening, with Kierra Sheard and Tasha Cobbs Leonard!! VOICES, "Oh My Goodness!" Followed them since the Clark Sisters era -- Younger Start-out Days....and they Reigned in that Theatre!! Onlookers Warning......Majestic is General Admission and Standing Room Only...lean back on the bar if you Can....it was my Best Friend!! The acoustics was Not-Badd for this Small Intimate Venue....Its a Win-Win for me when I can record UPclose to the Stage Performances and the Video Footage doesn't sound like your Favourite SONG that PLAYS the Static'ky noise coming from the speakers, LOL!! Call me a bit of a Peerless. BUT Crisp Sounds is very important!! For the Beverage Sensation: only had a "Lemonade" during last Night's concert. They also had COUNTLESS Beer Choices from what I witnessed. Not sure if Liquor was served, but kinda sure the Full-Sips were available....!! Hey it was dark....ha. Till next time...

Yelp
I've been to hundreds of concerts across the country and I'm attempting to write a review of every venue to assist my concert going troubadours. Tyler Childers (SOLD OUT) October 20, 2018 When I lived in Detroit (2005-2012), I attended many concerts at the Majestic (and its shuttered, accompanied venue, Magic Stick) - The Black Keys, Conor Oberst & The Mystic River Band, Spoon, and the late Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings to name a few. When looking for a Tyler Childers concert to makeup for the disaster show in Morgantown, WV at 123 Pleasant Street, I knew Majestic would be a solid choice. Since I've last been there, ownership has changed and they were in the midst of renovations. However, that had little impact on the concert experience. If you're form out of town, don't be alarmed by the neighborhood. I've never had a bad experience. Park across the street at the bank parking lot (it wouldn't hurt to throw the guy a few extra dollars for piece of mind). There's a few bars within walking distance to drink at while the line recedes. We wasted time at the HopCat brewery on this night. It's GA venue (the only kind I frequent). Sound is perfect, beer prices are reasonable, and the staff is friendly and helpful.

Kristen G.

Yelp
Very cool smaller venue in midtown. Obviously you have to park and walk a ways, but there is a structure a few blocks over. We came after doors had been open for an hour so we didn't have to get long to get in. I feel like the set up was weird, the merch tables should have been out in the lobby area not on the floor. For this being a smaller almost more hole in the wall venue I was bummed to see that drink prices were still so steep!! Overall, good show and cool venue.

Amanda W.

Yelp
I've been to just about every concert venue in Detroit, but somehow I hadn't checked the Majestic Theater off of my list. On April 25, I finally got the opportunity when Bad Suns had a concert here. First of all, the area surrounding the Majestic Theater is so cute! It's near Wayne State's campus and has lots of options for sit-down or fast casual food. We opted for Urban Ramen, just a few doors down from the venue, and we were not disappointed. The venue is pretty no-frills but who needs that when you're going to see live music? It's essentially one big room with no balconies/tiers. My one complaint would be the lack of tiers (something like the Fillmore has) because if you're short and in the back, it's difficult to see. However, there is a TON of floor space and plenty of room to spread out. I felt significantly less crowded at this concert than I have at other venues and I actually had room to move around and breathe! The bar has tons of drink options. I had a can of local-brand rosé cider for $8, which isn't too bad for a concert venue, I'd say. My only other complaint was that the staff was REALLY trying to get us out of the venue at the end. I get it, you want to close down and go home, but they were yelling at us to get out of the bathroom and leave less than 10 minutes after the concert ended.

Jeff H.

Yelp
The Majestic might be my least-favorite concert venue in the city and surrounding area. It was a dump 20 years ago and despite a couple marginal batches of renovations, it's still a dump. The theater is cavernous, echoey, the sound is TERRIBLE (I feel bad for anybody who has to run sound for a band in this room), it's shaped completely wrong for a proper concert experience (wider than it is deep), smells bad, bathrooms are horrifying, and oh-did-I-mention that pretty much every other concert venue in the city is markedly better than this one? I stopped going to shows at the Majestic years ago unless it was something I really really REALLY wanted to see. I just went back a few nights ago (for the first time in at least 5 years) and aside from them having recently painted the ceiling, everything I dislike about this room is still not-to-like. The only positive things I can say about the Majestic is that I have seen some truly great shows over the years (despite the awful room) and that the sister-venue in the same building (the Magic Stick) is ironically one of the best concert venues in the city. I'm so glad they ended that godawful Populux experiment and turned it back into a proper rock club.

Adam J.

Yelp
I'm probably never coming back for a show so I guess that's two-star worthy. There was still a line outside about 1.5 hours after doors opened, which didn't make sense. Their method of accepting tickets also seemed weird since they didn't scan printed off tickets and that probably led to why there were too many people at the show. People were backed up to the bar with no space. It would also make sense to put some elevation on the floor. The sound was fine, otherwise everything else was subpar.

Kevin J.

Yelp
This is a great place to see a band. I saw the Breeders here last month and had myself a grand old time. The sound was great. There's two bars so you shouldn't have to wait to long for your drinks. Red Bull is 5 bucks, but that price is constant throughout the whole Majestic complex. Friggin' Zaneas! Don't know about the bathroom attendants previous reviewers wrote about. I sure didn't see any. C'mon, this is the Majestic not the Fox.

Austin B.

Yelp
Overpriced beer, can't bring your camera in, sounds like you're listening to the music thru a plastic garbage can. Stop booking here please.

Anne M.

Yelp
The Majestic Theatre is an old divey music venue with character and charm. And a funky women's restroom in dire need of renovation. That's part of the "vintage charm" - and I'm totally cool with it. I went recently for a Neko Case concert (opener Jennifer O'Connor), and I enjoyed the Majestic. It's 95% standing room only. The other 5%? A small section in the back of the space with three short rows of tables. Standing in the February cold at the front of the entry line was way worth it because we managed to snag one of maybe ten tiny tables. SCORE. I still would have been thrilled to be here had we been standing, but the table upped my happiness level substantially. The place was shoulder to shoulder by the time the show was in full swing. Beautiful intricate ceiling, multiple bars, $10 parking in lot behind venue - easy in/out. Concert tickets were reasonably priced, and the size of this venue is great for smaller, more intimate shows. I'll be back...

Karen H.

Yelp
One of the best venues around as far as parking. There's usually a $10 structure across the street if you can't find free/$4 parking behind building or along a side street near the hospital. Bar staff does a killer job!

Scott H.

Yelp
This is a very cool concert venue! I just saw John Carpenter perform last night there and for the theater not totally being restored, it looked awesome anyway! I can't wait until they get the rest done, not sure if there was a balcony back in the old days but if there was, this place can only get better! The atmosphere was actaully very cool, a bunch of fans of John Carpenter talking amongst each other and most of us didn't know each other before we got there. it's amazing how people from all walks of life can come together to see a great concert and forget about what divides us. The sound was great for the show too, very good acoustics. There's parking galore, behind the theater, across the street in the bank parking lot, across from there in a huge parking garage as well. nobody can ever say "we couldnt find a place to park!" The only reason i gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was the wait outside before the show. I do not mind the wait at all, it was just bitter cold. probably 24 degrees or less. I saw other reviews where people dogged the fact this venue had a bathroom attendant....why? that's actually very cool, its like going back in time, you rarely see it anymore. the bathrooms were very clean, nobody was pushing any shoving or drunk in the place either. I'll definitely go back when they have something else i want to see.

Angela M.

Yelp
It's an okay venue. We saw Quinn XCII. The prices for drinks are reasonable for Detroit, with a vast selection to choose from (beer-wine-alcohol probably about $8 a shot, and $5 beer) To my knowledge, there are three bars (one in the main venue, one in the bar connected to it, and one in the pizza joint connected to it.) The pizza was cheap and a nice place to get something To eat after the concert and the bar staff were really friendly and quick to serve, however the music in this venue wasn't the best. The bass/loudness was too much for the such a small venue, if it was a bigger venue with a balcony the sound could resonate evenly. Also the security guards and those handing our wrist bands were incredibly rude, pushing past people in the concert and shrugging off questions about where things in the venue were (bathroom, bowling alley) ( also 30ish minutes late to opening the doors and letting people in) Overall, will I come back? Probably, when I do I'll update another review.

David P.

Yelp
Had our 9/18 Pink Slip Party event here. Could NOT have asked for a more helpful and friendly staff. When you're putting something together that's going to have 800+ people at it, it's really, REALLY nice to not have to sweat every little detail about the venue...and that was the case here. Great room, friendly bar staff, and they worked nicely with our sponsors to bring in some outside beverages they don't normally carry in order to make the night work. Really appreciate everything they did, and we'll definitely be coming back here.

Athena K.

Yelp
Not sure why everyone is so crazy about this place. If you hipsters and dirty bathrooms I guess it's the place to go. Acoustics aren't that great and I always have trouble seeing the band. Bartender is a total ass. He assumed that because I'm white that I'm from the suburbs and made jokes about how I was probably scared of all the black people outside. What a jerk!

Jenn F.

Yelp
I had never been to the Majestic before because, well, I had spent most of my 2 years living in Michigan going to grad school and NOT enjoying life. Now that I have some time, living life has moved towards the top of my "To Do" list! My fiance and I went to the They Might Be Giants show last night after having dinner at Union Street across Woodward. The place is a pretty nice venue - small, cozy, standing room only, with a seemingly great view of the stage no matter where you are. Can't really speak for the drinks/bar, because I didn't buy anything, but I did notice that lots of people were a-drinkin', so they must not have been THAT expensive. My favorite part of the venue? $4 friggen parking right behind the venue! That makes my native Californian heart happy, considering I grew up in an area where concert/event parking is never cheaper than $15 and is usually 2-3 blocks, minimum, away. My couple complaints - the staff were a bit rude when we were coming in. Could you please speak up, sir? I have no idea what the hell you just said to me. Oh, I'm sorry you had to repeat yourself. Could you NOT screech at me about it? It's not my fault you mumble. Kthx. They also needed to turn up the air a bit, whiny rock star complaints be damned. It was hotter than hell in there, and I didn't need the stench of unkempt, unshowered hipsters to overwhelm me. And as a side note, to all people going to concerts - if you know you're going to be in an enclosed space, in a large crowd of people, PLEASE SHOWER BEFOREHAND. WE ALL APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU.

Alex B.

Yelp
Had a fun and exciting time seeing Brockhampton with friends - had a clear view of stage and the venue provided for an intimate concert viewing experience. Though the theater is somewhat grimy, I am looking forward to coming back for a great time. Parking was also super convenient.

Lorna D.

Yelp
Beer soaked, stale smoked cavern o' goodness. Feels like my living room. I prefer it to the Stick. Airier, prettier ceiling, and they don't usually crowbar you in. Still my favorite place to see a show.

Adam G.

Yelp
I have been to two concerts here and the sound was just awful both times. The first time I thought it must have been the sound guy, but the second time proved my hypothesis wrong. The first concert we left before it ended it was that bad. They have a bathroom attendant who has his table right over the paper towel holder. So you have to get it from him and feel guilty if you don't tip just to wash your hands. I will never go to another show here.

Sara C.

Yelp
Though I can't speak for the venue, as I was only here for an after-party - bar + karaoke + bowling = heaven. What I dug about the Majestic was that it doesn't try too hard - like these yuppie bar/bowling alleys back in my hometown of Philly, and likely all across the country. This is a dive bar with a dark old school bowling alley, and that's the way it should be. Decent beers on tap for under five bucks, good music in the alley, karaoke in the front of the bar (though this might have just been a special occasion), cheap pizza next door, tables outside. That's all I need for a good night.

Christina H.

Yelp
Had a great time at the 'Walk of the Earth ' concert. Our was the first one for my kids. Staff was friendly, prices reasonable and bathrooms clean. Parking was close across the street.

Denise C.

Yelp
I booked an event at the Majestic and I don't have one negative thing to say. The people there are AMAZING. Everyone and everything was wonderful. Enough said! The Majestic is always a great time, between the cafe, the bowling alley, the theater, the Magic Stick, and Sgt. Pepperoni's which is open until 2:00am! Go there!

Michael K.

Yelp
With some trepidation, we went to the Majestic last night to see one of my favorites, Richard Thompson. RT is one of the finest musician-songwriter, performers in my lifetime. I say trepidation because the Majestic Theater is such a mismanaged dump. The tix were standing room only and I knew I couldn't/wouldn't stand after recent back issues, so we brought our cane chairs. There were 9 of us going to the show and as soon as we got there we were told we can't bring in chairs. I politely said that Mary and I cannot stand for any length of time so they directed us to the handicapped seated area. The rest of our group (9 of us in total) did the same. At the back of the theater, they had set up about 20 folding chairs and an elevated wooden platform with 20 more chairs. Worked out perfectly, elevated seats, with a clear view of RT and his trio and we were seated! RT was in top form with his performance, playing his entire new stunning record, '13 Rivers' along with lots of his past catalog. Great show by a great band. We felt bad for the rest of the older crowd who had to stand for 3+ hour long show (opening act included). If the theater owners would simply provide folding chair seating they could have sold 200 more tickets. But the Majestic Theater owners have their heads up their asses, still! No pictures or recording allowed.

Yelp
Personally I prefer to go to shows at the Stick next door because I like the atmosphere better there. The Majestic is a lot more open-- and not as homey dive bar feeling as the Stick. Kind of like a sophisticated older brother to the Stick-- maybe not sophisticated, but just a tad more upscale than a dingy dive. The stage is bigger here- so there is less crowd interaction here than next door. I guess there is more of a warehouse feel to this joint. I did see blonde redhead last fall and more recently the silent years and both times I had a blast... I've also done a fashion show here as well-- super cool venue for that and all the staff was incredibly helpful.

Chris M.

Yelp
Great sound, great bar staff, great bookings, great venue. I just saw Stars wsg Wild Nothing last night with a friend, and couldn't have been more pleased. Alcohol prices are reasonable for being a concert venue. Full bar and a decent beer selection, as well as Ghettoblaster on tap, can't go wrong! The set up of the venue is what you'd expect, bathrooms aren't difficult to get to unless you were never taught how to move through crowds and there are always plenty of bar spots to get drinks at. Sound has gotten better since some of the shows I went to years ago here. It started out bass-heavy, but was quickly corrected, which let Stars really rip up the show. It was probably one of my favorite concerts of this year, and the venue really helped it have that "Big name group, but semi-intimate experience" feel. Only gripe: no where to smoke and no re-entry. However, I am starting to view this as a good thing, since I should kick the habit anyhow.

Dillon S.

Yelp
It must have been the first time this bouncer worked a day in his life. He got all mad at me bc I helped up a girl off the floor (she fell, it was a metal show.. been to 200+) he thought I threw her down. The bouncer saw that and called ALL the security to come and after 5 mins they kicked me out of a Machine Head concert . What a damn shame....

Michael C.

Yelp
Just saw Airborne Toxic Event here tonight. I have nothing bad to say about the venue! Can't get a beer under $4, but show me a place with shows like this that you can? Beats Comerica for drinks, that's for sure!

Rachel B.

Yelp
Went to a show at the Magic Stick which is upstairs from the bowling alley. I really liked the space the show was in. The whole place has charm and character and it's a perfect place to go to a show. I had a pretty easy time finding parking and I really appreciated that they had a large outdoor patio area so I didn't have to walk out of the bar completely to smoke. This is one of the best venues I've been to for a show. It's exactly the kind of place you want to go to see a show.

Yasmin K.

Yelp
Acoustics- ok Crowd- Pretentious hipsters and the random normy (us) Ticket vender- Very rude chick, I guess she was in love with her Iphone and not her job Bar- didn't drink Band- We saw Beat Connection here, they were pretty good, could have been great if the acoustics were better

Doshaun E.

Yelp
Imagine having absolutely nothing to due on a Friday night. I wanted to party with everyone else, but writing papers and studying for exams were all that mattered. After a long week of work and school, I could come to the Majestic order the best chicken carbonara ever with some of the greatest oolong tea. There would always be someone new to meet or just strike a conversation with. If the great food an ambience isn't enough, they have a stage in the back for live alternative music, a bowling alley, and a pool hall. I swear this place is the greatest place in Detroit, maybe on earth. http://www.gofundme.com/youcansaveahero

Yelp
This is not a great concert venue. It's at best just okay. We went to the majestic theatre for the first time, for a show. We didn't eat anything in the cafe or pizza place so I'm only talking about the concert venue. On their website, when I bought tickets, it said the name of the artist and it said 8:00 pm, which I assumed meant that the show was going to start at 8:00 - other people in line thought the same. Actually the doors opened at 8 and the show started at 9, which meant that we had to stand for almost 2 hours, with no place to sit before the show started. Also, once we went inside it said on the doors no re-entry, so we were stuck in there. The dingy bathroom had an attendant sitting at a table set up right under the paper towel dispenser and you would have to wait for him to hand you a paper towel, and I think he was also selling loose cigarettes, because he had a few different open packs on the table. As for the actual concert, the artist was great, but the sound was not. It was very loud, and not in a good way. For the first few songs the drums were louder than anything, and you could barely make out the sound of the guitar or the voice of the singer. The sound was bad because it was so loud, it became distorted beyond recognition, especially during parts of the song that relied heavily on guitar. It's not a good concert hall for a loud, guitar heavy rock band. I prefer smaller venues when I want to see a rock concert, but this one Is not that good.

Juston M.

Yelp
went again and realized i never have reviewed the majestic. the sound is pretty good and there really is no bad place to stand in here. i like a venue small enough that you can always see the band. just went for the new pornographers and it looks like they have renovated some too. the ceiling no longer looks like its falling in. nice to see they are upgrading a little. the drink prices are pretty much the same as every venue in detroit and the surrounding burbs. love, juston

Andrew D.

Yelp
The place is a little run down but that gives it tons of character. Beside the last friday of every month is Funk Night. Loads of fun for the after hours people.

RE A.

Yelp
The hipsterish happyhour ran the locals into the Garden Bowl, which btw imo is wayyy cooler.

DJ B.

Yelp
Just saw a show where the sound was mixed so bad all I could hear was drums and fuzz. Get new sound people please

o o.

Yelp
I have been going here for years and it still rocks. You can play pool, bowl, or catch a show all in the same night. Good drinks and a hip crowd. Love this place.

Peggah G.

Yelp
I love the Majestic Theatre. Since changes in management and other things, the sound at Majestic hasn't changed, whereas the sound in the Magic Stick becomes unbearably loud. The bathrooms are nice, and on cold winter days, really warm. You might have a long wait at the bar if you want to get a drink, but that's pretty normal for venues.

Doreen B.

Yelp
I can't believe that it has been 13 years since I saw the beautiful Lisa Loeb play. The date was 11/07/2001. I sat front and center and was able to take a picture with her! The Majestic Theater is somewhat small, but at times serves for the purpose of an intimate venue. I was glad that I got to see her play, one of my musical concert highlights of my life. I heart you Detroit, Michigan.

Yelp
2nd trip to the Majestic to see Buckethead. Thought it would be better the second time around because its supposed to be smoke free. WRONG. The security there is a joke. They were very proficient with making sure that every had their "over 21" wristband so they could serve up the alcohol without any delays. Half the people were drunk by 9. Next to a guy so drunk that even the other drunks were complaining. Finally got security over and they said they weren't too concerned with the fact that he was grabbing and falling over everyone around him. Saw 2 fights break out, one of which I had to break up and not one of the security personell showed up. And the smoke free part? Weed and cigarette smoke filled the front part of the stage and not a peep out off security. There was about an hour before the show started with the opening act and another hour after the opener was done before Buckethead came on. Not sure if the delay was just the establishments gimmick to be able to sell more drinks or what. Never going back.

Yelp
Majestic Theater is really a few things--Magic Stick (smaller music venue w/pool tables), the Garden Bowl (bowling alley and a bar on the first flloor- also serves bar/pub food), the Majestic Cafe (moderately upscale restaurant), and the Majestic Theater (a larger music venue) oh and Sgt. Pepperoni's which serves pizza. I'll probably always come here b/c they consistently book acts that I want to see-- alot of garage and indie rock, but also reggae, world and electronic. The Garden Bowl tends to have a more punk rock vibe, the restaurant has more of an urban artist/hipster feel. The Stick's vibe totally depends on who is playing. It was featured a couple years ago in Rolling Stone as one of the coolest bars in Detroit and has had its share of rock dramas (some even hit the Detroit newspapers). If I could only go to one bar in Detroit this might be it, simply b/c it's like a few different bars in one.

Yelp
Honestly, the Majestic let me down. I LOVE the Magic Stick and had equally high hopes for the concert I attended here. To start, the tickets said "doors open at 8:00". When we arrived at 8:00 (after having dinner across the street at the Union Street), the line was a block and a half long. We stood outside for almost 40 minutes while a very agitated homeless man screamed at the line and paced back and forth. The staff manning the door seemed incredibly unprepared and were completely unapologetic for making everyone stand out in the Michigan winter. There are two mini-bleacher sets in the Majestic, and then it's standing room only. Look up--the ceiling is gorgeous. Everything else? Yikes. The floor was sticky when we arrived. There's one ladies room, and it's on the far side of the space, so getting in and out was pretty hectic. There's two bars, though (score) and Matthew was an incredible bartender. Great selection of beer and liquor. Small venue, so you can get super close to the stage.
