An Essential Guide to Eating Your Way Through Alberta | Eater

"While whisky has always been big in Canada, Jasper is a particularly excellent place to distill, thanks to the town’s proximity to both the plains’ rye and wheat grains and the mountain glaciers’ icy-fresh waters. A tour or tasting at The Maligne Range will dig deeper into all of the above, but the craft distillery also doubles as a great place to grab dinner or a dram with friends. Start your evening with Tekarra, a whisky named after one of Jasper National Park’s mountains. With Canadian malted barley and a subtle hint of demerara sugar, it’s dark, earthy, and slightly candied. It works well with the restaurant’s menu of slow-smoked barbecue, like sticky maple-mustard pork belly and elk sausage served with smoky tomato chutney. The drink list is stacked with Maligne Range whisky cocktails (served on tap or by the bottle) and deep-cut bottles from across Canada." - Kate Dingwall

Atmosphere was great and if you get it, then you get it. Service was great as there wasn’t a lot of people there during this time of the year. Food… for the price paid, size was small and the taste wasn’t WOW! Drinks were good and they had a twist on the Old Fashioned.

We dropped in at Maligne Range after a grueling day driving up the Icefields Parkway (including raging at various incompetent drivers) and were not disappointed. The Caesar salad was seasoned just right. Grilled chicken was tender and juicy. Brisket was absolutely divine and the accompanying smashed potatoes were delicious. Service was (as with many of my previous reviews) helpful and attentive especially with the whisky explanations - our server having studied in Scotland may have had something to do with it! We will certainly be back.

Went here for brunch and were too late so we had lunch. We got a seat on the outside railing and the views were beautiful. We both had the beef brisket sandwich and it was SO GOOD!!! My husband had the local whiskey flight and bought a bottle to bring home. Surprisingly I even liked the whiskeys. We’d go back again while here and highly recommend it to anyone visiting and wanting a quality meal and service.

Me and my sister drove into Jasper from Canmore and we were recommended this place by a friend who used to live in the area. This place did not disappoint! Started out ordering a ‘Skyline sour’ with a shareable charcuterie board which hit the spot! Was also recommended the ‘Beef Short Rib’ which again was spectacular! Massive portion of meat as it was completely boneless and smoked to perfection—came with some veggies and ordered with fries. My sister got the ‘West Coast Salmon’ which she said was and I quote ‘to die for’. Altogether a great restaurant with friendly and fast service! Would definitely recommend.

Absolutely a hidden gem. Surprisingly not super busy and we were able to walk in and be seated without advanced reservations. Items Ordered: Pork Belly Bites - CA$14.00 Little House - CA$19.00 Lemon Garlic Shrimp - CA$11.00 2x Sticky Toffee Pudding - CA$24.00 2x Lemon Posset - CA$24.00 Surf & Turf Platter for 2 - CA$76.00 SD Gravy - CA$3.00 Classic Platter for 2 - CA$66.00 SD Gravy - CA$3.00 Wild Warden - CA$9.75 Honestly every single dish was awesome and the dessert options while limited selection (only 2 choices), each of them were amazing that we had to double up.

We had a really lovely atmosphere in the restaurant—the ambiance was cozy and the setting quite pleasant. But we waited quite a while after being seated before anyone came by to take our order. After browsing the menu, there was still no one checking in, and our water glasses stayed empty for a long time before anyone refilled them. When our short ribs arrived, we weren't given steak knives, and the meat was a bit dry. On the bright side, the mashed potatoes and vegetables were well done. We asked the server for salt and pepper, which was appreciated. Overall it was a mixed experience—staffing seemed slow, but the food and atmosphere had their highlights. We still left the customary tip—at least 18%—when settling the bill.

It's my birthday and I get breakfast. We have a wonderful coffee and order our food. I'm excited. I open my utensils to a huge finger print on my cutlery. I'm actually fairly disgusted. We were given new cutlery. We receive our food, it looks amazing. I'm very excited. Server comes by with pepper or salt. She says something about "we're FANCY here.." I nearly laughed after hearing that because if it was fancy I wouldn't have received dirty cutlery. Was an awkward experience after that and it stuck with me for a while after. Food was delicious!

We are very glad to have tried this place. The food was phenomenal with the brisket poutine gone before we took a photo, the Surf & Turf share platter delicious and the two kids meals (brisket & beef/bison bolognaise) generous. The drinks were tasty. Angela (our server) was very friendly and knowledgeable. Highly recommend!

Yelp
The Maligne Range in Jasper offers a fantastic blend of atmosphere, service, and flavor. The House-Made Alberta Beef Burger and harissa Smoked Chicken Club were standouts; flavorful, and beautifully presented. The soup of the day was a beef stew made with smoked brisket...fabulous. Staff were attentive and welcoming, making the experience even more enjoyable. I'm big bourbon drinker and was not impressed with the bourbon they make in-house. The Smoked Old Fashion was good, but nothing special. I did try in "up" and that's what formed my opinion, not impressed. Whether you're a local or visiting Jasper, this gastropub is a must-visit for quality Canadian cuisine and a cozy vibe. Highly recommended!

Yelp
I greatly enjoyed this establishment. They explained to me that this is their first summer in operation. They were supposed to open in 2024 but the fires in Jasper prevented that. It was the old Jasper movie theater that is now converted over to a restaurant and it looks amazing. Such a beautiful place - the seating area and also the bar area. It also has a nice upstairs area. I had their beef brisket - which was absolutely delicious. I would love to come by here again. I came in for a late lunch Highly recommend if you are looking for a great looking place and good food. Very friendly service

Yelp
My group of seven and I got greeted with kindness even though the restaurant had an hour left til closing. We appreciated it because after a day of hiking, we were starving. The hokey finals were on last night so the ambience was just amazing! The camaraderie was incredible as we joined them in their victory cheer when Canada (The Oilers) scored a winning goal. Now let's get to the food, SO DELICIOUS! Every meat dish we got was cooked to perfection. The meat was so tender and juicy. I had a Skyline Sour (whiskey sour) that tasted like Christmas in a glass. Definitely recommend. Looking forward to visiting again next time we are in Jasper.

Yelp
I don't like writing negative reviews, but this place has such high ratings that I felt like I needed to post one. It's a restaurant that advertises itself primarily as a distillery and second as a smokehouse; the waitress emphasized that both of these things are their specialties. My wife ordered a burger and I ordered the smoked brisket because that was meant to be one of their specialties. To be clear, if the prices were lower, this would be more like a 3.5, but at the pricepoint it was just not good. The burger was dry and bland even though it was covered in toppings and sauce. The brisket was grey rather than pink, and so dry that the jus it came with soaked up completely every few minutes after I poured it on. There was no smoke flavor to the meat at all; the predominant and basically only flavor was black pepper, which was crusted onto the exterior. The potatoes admittedly were pretty good, both the smashed ones I had and the fries. If the prices were a bit lower and there weren't chefs in white coats running around pushing the aesthetic of a high-end eatery, again, maybe this would be a 3.5, but the way this restaurant is presenting itself and the actual food is out of step with each other.

Yelp
Beautiful establishment located in a prime tourist destination with a dog friendly patio. The burger was great - perfectly cooked to a medium rare and the smoky maple old fashioned drinks were one of the best cocktails I've had. Service was great but a little bit of a wait since it was so busy. Parking is available on the street if you can find a spot or across in the paid parking lots.

Yelp
We just had the old fashioned and a rubarb sour from Jasper brewing. We have to go back because the bar is inviting with the wood log decor and I always like bars where you sit a square surrounding the bartenders. We sat in the dining room but they have outdoor curb seating and an upper balcony outside. The drinks and sour were great as was the service but it was early and happy hour 3 to 5 pm!

Yelp
My wife had the salmon, I had the brisket. My wife enjoyed the salmon and the crispy skin on the bottom. The vegetables were well cooked but lacked taste. The smoked brisket was a big disappointment. Dry and tough. No smoke flavor at all, just overly seasoned with pepper. The meat was so dry the just was no help. Over priced for what you received. Our waiter was more intimidated flirting with the hostess than checking on his customers. Never asked refilled water and did not ask if we wanted dessert. To be fair the waiter at the tables next to us was exceptional with his customers.

Yelp
Excellent food and service was great! Nice ambiance with a rustic feel. Will return next we're in Jasper.
