Twin Cities Restaurant and Bar Openings to Know, August 2025 | Eater Twin Cities

"Rejoice, the Malt Shop has returned. The beloved retro spot — first opened in 1973 — for burgers, malts, and shakes closed this past January after failing to renew its liquor license. But new ownership has taken over the restaurant and brought back the classic offerings, as well as added dirty sodas to the menu." - Jeffy Mai

Went opening day and glad to have this spot back! You now order at the counter then are brought food to your table. The malts were delicious, and we loved the fries! The burger was good as well. Excited to go back and try a dirty soda!

Google
very cozy atmosphere, kind staff, quick service and very reasonable prices! I love how they bring out the leftover malt that doesn’t fit in the glass, and everything was delicious. I also loved the decoration and seating options, and location.

Google
Angie was wonderful!! A+ worthy of everything on the menu! I opted not to a malt this time but I will the next time I go!! Such a great place!! Thank you to the cooks, the new owners! I'll be back really soon!!

Google
The food is great here. Pictured is the single malt shop burger and the chicken sandwich, dirty soda and chocolate malt.

Google
This place brings back childhood memories. The new owners have really brightened up the place, increased the zest of the food in a good way (onion rings and jalapenos burger) and the malts are just as good as I remember. Stopped by for a brief lunch after church and had a blast! Would highly recommend.

Google
We wanted a good malt so we went to the Malt Shop and we weren't disappointed. Hard to beat a burger, fries and a Black Cherry malt. They serve the malt the old fashioned way with whipped cream and the excess in the blender cup. Reasonable prices too.

Google
I came here a year ago and it was great! Unfortunately, this time did not meet expectations. Our boozy malts and fries were very good and came out quickly. I would come back and just get a malt, hence the second star. Both of our meals were supposed to come with fries, but we just got one tray of fries to share. We were not given a choice of sides. The food took 30-45 minutes to come out. I ordered the veggie panini and got a soggy grilled cheese with a little bit of red pepper on it. Nothing like what the menu described. My friend ordered the Malt Shop Burger and got a cheeseburger with nothing else on it. Our server was very nice but seemed overwhelmed. The restaurant was not very busy but he was the only worker we saw. We were charged full price for our meals. I feel awful leaving a bad review but I can't recommend getting anything except a malt here at the moment.

Google
I have been to The Malt Shop a few times. The food (selection & taste), malts, atmosphere and service are all very good. Visited here recently after a several years hiatus and it was remodeled but everything was still up to par.

Yelp
The Malt Shop is back! With new owners! We stopped by for their opening night and it was fantastic! Our malt was delicious, and the menu was great. Prices were very reasonable. So excited to come back try their food! We just got a shake this time. And it was 10/10. So happy to live just down the street from this awesome spot!

Yelp
Why we keep coming back? But once again we thought, "Hey let's try the Malt Shop again." Gone are the ordering from the table and being seated. I'm ok with this, but it does move the Malt Shop to a lower level right off the bat. So we ordered, paid, sat and waited. The place didn't have any background music. Long gone is the piano and some local playing for you. But not even speakers with music? Because of this it was overly quiet and you could hear every conversation in the room. The couple that were sitting next to us left. Their plates were still there when we left 20 minutes later. Food arrived. Fries were cold. Cheese burger was cold and mostly tasteless. My daughter's grilled cheese was the only thing not cold. And the waiter didn't take the plates from the next table. Malts arrived about half way through the meal. Good malts this time. Waiter again didn't take the dirty trays next to us. I doubt we will go again. But, who knows?

Yelp
Great malts and good food. Great for youth to old. I ordered extra malt flavoring for my Pineapple malt. Very good!

Yelp
We had some very strange interactions with the manager who was either very high or very drunk. Food was pretty meh.

Yelp
I met an old friend for. lunch today, Jul 31, and it turned out that it was their first day open, newly opened under new ownership. Wow! The food was delicious and very reasonably priced, the atmosphere, terrific, old school wooded booths in one room, more open seating in the other room. If you're lucky, one booth has the seating of an old-time Mustang convertible, yep, just like you're sitting in it. I got a hamburger, fries, and a Diet Coke (I'm in my post-malt days, so that was a sin--their malts look spectacular), my friend a BLT. I would definitely come back, with kids and grandkids. The new owner and manager, Dakota, came by to see how we liked it, and listened carefully, the chef came out, and the two counter staff, senior soccer players at Washburn, added to the nice neighborhood vibe. Tucked into a great neighborhood corner at Lyndale and 50th street.

Yelp
I never had the chance to visit the old Malt Shop so I don't have the same frame of reference as other reviewers, but I do know that it was a neighborhood classic. I went on a Friday night, and was pleasantly surprised with the interior- vintage vibes with stain glass, ice cream counter and a car, but a little more modern with a TV at the bar and updated seats. Foodwise, we started with cheese curds. The ranch it came with was very good and so were the curds but the sambal sauce tasted like watered down marinara. i think using marinara and adding sambal without watering either down would have improved it). For burgers, I got the smash burger with fruit and my partner got the regular burger and both were very good with pillowy bread. We got fries and they were good, but overally salted. Of course we had to get shakes, and we for a small. The banana shake was delicious but the small was definitely expensive for the size. Service was okay- staff was friendly, but our table didn't come with utensils and we didn't have napkins when we had our apps and did not find any until our burgers arrived. Not a big deal but it would have been nice to have something to wipe off our cheesecurd grease. Overall, I would come back for the malt and shakes, especially the boozy ones

Yelp
Malt shop is a childhood favorite of mine and it's even better than I remember! Now, they have a full bar and an area where the seats look like cars, which is cool for the kids! I had the malt burger and it was really good! And the fried pickles are great if you need to satisfy that craving! Service was fast and the waitress was very friendly and knowledgeable! I will always recommend!

Heather P.

Yelp
Our dinner here was just bizarre. The service was inattentive and missing for most of the meal. We ordered apps, mains, and drinks. It took about 45 min to get the drinks and we had to remind them we had ordered drinks. The shake was half blended and dropped on the table in the can, no glass like the other tables. My kiddo ordered nachos and they came without cheese. We would have asked about the lack of cheese, but our server never came back to check on us. The burgers were pretty overcooked, one with a burnt bun. We eventually grabbed another server and paid the bill at the counter to leave. For the price, we would have been able to go to Culver's 3-4 times and had a better meal each time.

Yelp
Stopped in and had a Tipsy Malt while waiting for a table at George & The Dragon next door! My friend and I both had excellent tasting malts that were a large portion! Good vibe while inside! For two malts it was $27 which in my eyes is a bit spendy but the malts did have alcohol in them so it does make sense. 8.5/10 I would definitely come back and try the food here. Very cozy vibes! Cheers!

Katie M.

Yelp
The food is delicious, the prices are very reasonable and the staff very welcoming and kind. My daughter loved the last version of the Malt Shop and she is delighted that it has reopened. I had the Beyond Burger and it was very flavorful. You order at the counter and then everything is brought out to you. The portions for the malt were fairly generous.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere and a little bar area. Real raspberry shake! Burgers are excellent. Sauces matched to the burger. Smashburger was delicious. Onion rings were perfect. No complaints.... Great lunch option!
google avatar

Rob M.

Yelp
Walked in at a weird lunch time 3:30pm). Saw only one person working. Had me worried...at first! Perfect Impossible Swiss burger and a chocolate/mint shake. Yum! Great, friendly service. Turned on 50s music for us. Accommodating and joked around with us. Brought leftover boxes without having to be asked. Oh and he was cute too. A plus!

Karen C.

Yelp
It's not ok to close early and not take orders... especially for malts! You. Are. The. Malt. Shop. Please consider training your staff on customer service. I've had several instances where I've tried to place a quick shake order even just after 8pm only to be told they are no longer taking orders. I've always been a malt shop fan. Have been since I was a kid and I'm really not trying to give up but when you consistently "close early" you are no longer reliable therefore loosing $$ as well.
google avatar

Daniel O.

Yelp
The food was yummy. We had the BLTA. The service was slow, but I think the person was new based on him getting 3 parts of a simple order wrong. The floors did feel like they were mopped with a dirty mop and the filth was so thick on the menu I was able to scrape it off with a fingernail. I really like this place but it needs tidy some things up and not leave a new guy alone with 4 tables.

Lydia D.

Yelp
The Waiter was nice, but when he took our order, he took a call from someone and went to the other side of the room. We ordered cheese curds and fried pickles for appetizers and when we got them long after our shakes, the pickles were extremely salty and the cheese curds were unevenly cooked and just didn't taste like the good cheese curds you'll find everywhere else. While he was on the phone he said he was very busy, but while we were there he stopped near the bar and watched jumanji on the TV for about 5 minutes.
google avatar

Paskall P.

Yelp
This was my first time here and the food tasted so good and the shake was great up until I found two long pieces of hair melted inside of my Burger. I $32 just for me to have to throw The rest of my burger away

L L.

Yelp
They are now closed, no longer in business. No surprise. Like for so many restaurants, COVID was not kind to our classic friend, The Malt Shoppe on 50th in Mpls. The original owner sold the business in the last couple years, after Covid re-opening, and the new owner just didn't know what they got in to. Service dropped thru the floor. Food even lower. Maintenance of the restaurant went, well, down the toilet. So they are closed. End of a legend that has been a fond memory of mine since the early 70's. Good buy old friend! It was nice to know you. I'll miss the greenhouse burger. A lot.

Grant M.

Yelp
Word to the wise, something is up with this place now. Not sure what changed or what's going on now behind the scenes, but it's an absolute disaster. No staff, so dirty, out of everything. Place feels on the brink of closing. Hopefully it turns around for them, used to love this spot.

Colleen C.

Yelp
Food was good but service was mediocre. We were almost finished with food before our malts came. There were no other customers there when we placed our orders. I wonder if there was only one person waiting and making food.

Mike S.

Yelp
Not happy. My wife and I went to the Malt Shop to get a couple malts after dinner. Not only we pay $29 for 2 malts, but they were out of ingredients that we wanted so had to settle. Also, I ordered a hot fudge malt with pecans and there was no hot fudge. Way too overpriced and not nearly as good as it used to be.
google avatar

Katy I.

Yelp
The new Malt Shop isn't what it used to be. I may be nostalgic for the past, but I miss the piano in the dining area and the old greasy diner feel. Our server was absolutely delightful. We sat near the bar and the bartender seemed great too. The food was okay. I found myself missing the old menu. The fries aren't that great. The burger was decent. Maybe some of their other entrees are better. I just wanted a taste of a chocolate malt, and I was a little surprised to see how expensive a barely 6 oz shot of malt cost. Granted, I used to walk home from school and stop to get a full-sized malt for $4 in the early 90s, so inflation is what it is. Maybe it was the size, but it wasn't malty enough for my taste. I might go back for a malt some time but probably won't go back to eat.
google avatar

Matthew M.

Yelp
New owner but same great malts. Improved burgers and fries. A menu full of classics with classic good service to back it up. We travel the world but always take the time to make a stop at the Malt Shop when passing through town. It's worth the trip.

Yelp
My husband ordered the hot dog special, just before everyone else's food showed up, he was told they were out of the hot dogs. 30 minutes later, when the rest of us were done, his burger finally came, the server was also delivering 2 orders of the hot dog special to people who came in and ordered after us....odd. Malts are pretty good, but the food was disappointing. The servers seemed to be trying, but something sure got messed up and there was no attempt at service recovery.

Mike D.

Yelp
Food was fair, after we got a server to take our order 20 minutes after we sat down. Every order came in increments, usually 10 minutes apart. Won't be returning anytime soon.

John C.

Yelp
If you are looking for a good or even decent malt shop, avoid this place! It is understaffed. The food is mediocre and overpriced. The place needs more bussing, and cleaning. There were no towels in the bathroom, the hot water didn't work. It took too long to order, too long to get our meal, and too long to pay our bill. Our drink order came out incorrectly. My burger was missing a key ingredient, and instead of talking to us about it, they just served it to us that way. When I gave a confused look, the sever asked if he should go to the grocery store for me??? Our burger was cold! Our son's grilled cheese included a heel. The fruit cup was quite literally the most pathetic fruit cup I've ever seen; it was five tiny slivers of honeydew. They forgot my son's malt and we had to wait for that as well. It was the messiest malt presentation I've ever seen. The manager and/or owner was not helping the one server and something seemed wrong with him, like he was on something.

Yelp
We went the remodeled Malt Shop yesterday, and it was ok but sad. I hope the owners will take a look at the negative Yelp reviews and revise accordingly. Like everyone else, I was hoping they'd give the old place a face lift and revise the menu a bit. Instead, this place doesn't know if it wants to be a gastropub or a nostalgic malt shop, and it doesn't work. They got rid of lots of menu favorites and replaced them with items like "zucchini chips with caper remoulade" -- but what happened to the onion rings and cottage fries? And the homemade, scrumptious veggie burger? The malts are still good -- in fact, I dare say they're a little better, as they're using Milk Jam ice cream now. I had a Nutella malt that was amazing. But please bring back more of the original items. There are lots of places in town to get the kind of aoli-smeared hipster food you're trying to sell. But the old Malt Shop was an original.

Yelp
If I was the Salt Bae, I'd open a SALT SHOP If I was a bad Tennis player, Double FAULT SHOP If I was making roads, I'd open an ASPHALT SHOP But when I'm in the Mini Apples, I go to the MALT SHOP! If I was at Disney then I'd open up a WALT SHOP If I was at a random place, I'd open a DEFAULT SHOP If I hit CTRL + DELETE, then I'd go to the ALT SHOP But if you want a great dessert then get down to the MALT SHOP! If I was at a border crossing, I'd open a HALT SHOP If I'm a super sexy girl, I'll open up my HALTER TOP If I was a Cheerleader then I'd do a SOMERSAULT SHOP But if you want a yummy creamy shake go to THE MALT SHOP! If Yelpers really love me they can open an EXALT SHOP If Yelpers really hate me they can open an ASSAULT SHOP If Yelpers wanna get with me, they'll feel a THUNDERBOLT SHOP But if you wanna get some creamy goodness, try THE MALT SHOP! What to get: Banana Malt, Chocolate Malt. Why: Because these drinks make my heart malt. If I tease people at the Mall, I'm a Mall Tease (and I often do). Whereas if I am from Malta (like Amber Valletta or a Falcon), then I'm Maltese. But if I'm "of the Malt Shop" because I come here every time I'm in the Tiny Apples, and I find it easy to come here, then I'm Malt-ese, and display a high level of Malt-ease. Just don't order a soda when you come here. They're not called "The Malt Pop." It was a long long time ago. So long ago that I can barely remember. I came to The Malt Shop one evening when it was nearly closing and had one of the best banana malts of my life. This was soon after I'd had a similarly spectacular malt at the Portland Malt Shoppe up in Duluth, and I remember I started to think that Minnesota had the best malts imaginable. Since then I have realized that Wisconsin is as good if not better, for Malts, and Chicago is great as well. But having come back to The Malt Shop again just recently, after all this time, I'm still a huge fan. I think I should stop talking about other cities and focus on this shop. I won't just stop, I'll "The Malt Stop." And remember, a straw in a Malt Shop is not just a straw. It's "The Malt Prop." The Malt Shop may now have different owners, but I've noticed that the Malts are just as delicious as they always were. These days they are larger and have a lot more seating. They put a much stronger emphasis on food, and sell lots of fast-food to the locals such as burgers. But they still make spectacular Malts and I will still keep coming back here to try the different ones that they have. If you drop your Malt, then it's The Malt Drop. They'll clean it up with The Malt Mop, no doubt. If you try it and hate it, it's The Malt Flop. In fact you can have mine instead (The Malt Swap.) I remember in the old days they made fresh banana malts, and they haven't changed - the banana malt was really good, although I wish the bananas they used were much less ripe, as I don't like the taste of overly-browned bananas. The chocolate malt was great as well. If you hurt your leg trying to run in here, then you'll have to do "The Malt Hop." If you get so obese from these products that you need a gastric bypass, it's "The Malt Op." Or if you gain just a bit of weight then instead of a muffin top it's called "The Malt Top." If they make you run to the bathroom, I'll pretend I didn't hear "The Malt Plop." I'm looking forward to coming back here again in the future so that I can try more of these Malts that I love so much. The owner was nice as well, and the place is adorable, and busy -just the way I hoped that it would be. And of course it has a great mural on the wall, which you can see in my pictures. If you wanna make this malt look sexier online, use "The Malt Photoshop" and in particular "The Malt Crop" feature. And if you're so turned on by this Malt that you need to get off, then just do "The Malt Fap." And if you get arrested for fapping in public, it's probably by "The Malt Cop." Anyway I've told enough fables about this place, what is this, "the Malt Aesop?" Now a bit more of the Malty rap: If I was in Cali, then the San Andreas FAULT SHOP If I was in Kentucky, at Fort Knox, then the VAULT SHOP If you were in bed with me, you'd know why I'm called the COLT SHOP But when I'm in the Mini Soda, I go to the MALT SHOP! (note: this review was written on my portable computer, i.e "The Malt Laptop."

Yelp
This is such a cute restaurant! It was a nice area and the shop is so cute and aesthetic. The food tasted amazing and it was served warm and quickly. The workers were super nice too and helped us out kindly! I highly recommend this little place!!

Yelp
Nothing like the original Malt shop. Too expensive and fancy. Very disappointed. Won't go back. They should change the name.

Anita M.

Yelp
I am a lilttle late in this review but last night we walked by and saw the stickers on the door and realized our incident was likely not isolated. But it was creepy so I do feel compelled to share: I had called the restaurant to verify if they were open. It took a long time for the phone to be answered but it was confirmed. When we got there with our grandson, excited for a malt and burger, we were met by another family who stood from their seats when we entered. They warned, "We advise you to go somewhere else. We are the only ones here and it's been almost a half hour and no one has come to take our order". They left. I wandered through the otherwise empty restaurant, calling out, "Hello.....Hello?" After several minutes, a solo figure appeared from the back room. He simply walked toward me. I asked again, "Are you open?". "Yeah", he replied. "Oh, well you had other customers who just left because no one served them", I told him. He responed, "Yeah". He said nothing more, made no moves to assist us in the service. He simply stared at me, wide eyed and with a bit of a maniacal grin. We decided we would leave, too. We were all unnerved by this interaction. It.Was.Weird. Even our grandson was willing and eager to forego his burger and malt. I thought about calling the police because it begged the question if this person was legitimately there. But we went about our search for food elsewhere. It was startling and sad, The Malt Shop has been around most of my life. I would never risk going back.

Yelp
Awesome malts! Check out the hot fudge milkshakes Enthusiastic staff. Bright, clean surroundings.

Anthony B.

Yelp
Back in the day as a teen I worked here and I have to say learning of new ownership, new menu, new staff and new look of the restaurant I can say very good job. I like burgers and new look most definitely will visit again.
google avatar

Perry S.

Yelp
The Malt Shop is another name for comfort food. It's been around seemingly forever, and don't go here often enough. The servers really know the place and why people come. They're pleasant, relaxed and make you feel at home. The malts are the best around. The burgers are excellent. And the club sanwich with cottage fries are very satisfying. Plus, they have a piano player!
google avatar

Megan B.

Yelp
we ate here with our kids and my mother in law and as my mil was drinking her malt, there was a huge chunk of crunchy banana in the malt. her malt didn't even have banana in it. the wait staff told us that is was likely due to the blender not being cleaned properly and the banana was some old leftover from a previous malt. so gross!
google avatar

Maggie R.

Yelp
We came to Malt Shop for the first time in many years so it was a bit of a nostalgia trip. Evidently, new owner have taken over and we hoped for positive result, given that the food had gone downhill long ago. we both ordered cheeseburgers and fries with a Malted for my husband. The buns were extremely dry and the burgers mediocre. They gave a generous quantity of fries but they tasted terrible. I will say that our waitress was outstanding, friendly and attentive. unfortunately, we will not be returnin.
google avatar

Craig F.

Yelp
Really good food. Maybe the best fried cheese curds we have ever had. Friendly service. Fun decor with Mustang seats. Would definitely go again.

Yelp
After a day of bike-riding, we chanced upon the Malt Shop and well, we were in for a treat. Personally, I had been looking for coffee but hearing (or seeing, rather) the word "malt" completely derailed that train of thought. And that's saying something, for this coffee addict. You can sit down in the restaurant area for a meal or order a malt or shake to go - we went with the latter. I may have stared at their menu for a little too long, pondering the million choices on the chalk board before asking the unfathomable: what's the difference between a malt and a shake. A malt is vanilla ice cream with their malt flavoring (think Maltesers), and a shake's a shake. Our cashier gave us a taste of their vanilla malt, and I was hooked. Regular vs specialty flavors, then? Mixing two or more flavors vs just the one. I went with a cinnamon apple pie malt in a regular (which was basically double the size of a small for $1 more, who wouldn't?) and my friend got the chocolate malt. Mine was a winner, I'd have to say. And I'm definitely glad we decided to swing by.

Yelp
We saw that the space was recently re-opened with new owners, so we decided to try it. We were so pleased! Everything we ordered was fresh, homemade, creative! Good variety and good value. We look forward to making this one of our regular places!

Cheryl M.

Yelp
Miss the old Malt Shop. Menu isn't that good, prices are really high, for the food and the malts. A teeny tiny malt, smaller than the mini blizzard cup, is $6.00. And can't forget the 4% surcharge added to the tab to pay for health insurance. While change is inevitable I don't think I'll be back. To the Owners: change the menu and lower your prices! $16 for a BLT is outrageous!

Rita H.

Yelp
Ice Cream and Coffee go together. this place is mire if a bar than a restaurant!!!!

Kirstin E.

Yelp
No need to see the change. Malts are the same great taste but the ambience and food experience has definitely changed for the worst. No tech for wait list, terrible wait area- are those chairs or what? No malt shop nostalgia left. New owner wanted a bar so it dominates the second room. Huge disconnect on decor, menu choices, ambience, plate ware, flat ware, logo and food ingredients. Everyone looked confused upon entering wondering "what is this place?" Clearly we all expected a "cleaned up" version of a true malt shop-drive-in type menu, classic American fare with smaller portions to go with heavy but delicious malts and way more kid friendly. None of that here anymore.

Kevin W.

Yelp
Troubling News - The Malt Shop has been closed for renovations since January 22, 2022. Their website isn't operational but their Facebook page mentions plans to reopen in March of 2022. Now that April has arrived, let's all hope this great restaurant is able to reopen soon. My family is sure looking forward to that!

Jessica P.

Yelp
This place was awful! Not only was it completely underwhelming, but the service was so slow and inattentive. I ordered an ice tea after sitting and waiting for service for 13 minutes. I asked for sweet n low or sugar for the tea. It never came. Our cheese curds came out cold. No wait staff came to check on us, and our drinks were empty. The food was meh, and again the waitstaff was completely gone. It was some of the worst service I've experienced. We are not high maintenance people, and this is a burger joint, but the lack of service was appalling.

Clark F.

Yelp
I went to the newly renovated malt shop today and left disappointed. The price increases to the malts were expected and understandable, but the decrease in malt sizes were laughable. What used to be the small size is now the regular size. The new small ($6-$7) is served in a glass maybe slightly bigger than a double shot glass. I thought they were giving us a sample at first. When we finished them in sixty seconds, we laughed realizing those were what we paid for. People around us had similar reactions to the espresso cup of malt they received. The Lyndhurst burger was delicious and reasonably priced which helped to salvage my mood. The malts were tasty but the sizes now are unreasonably small, a bad look for a place called the malt shop. Hope that they change that soon.
google avatar

Susan N.

Yelp
Hmm what's the worst part of the new malt shop? It's all terrible. The menu sucks. The prices suck. The service was absolutely horrible. Literally both left feeling sick to our stomachs. The dry rub wings smell like a pumpkin spice latte and they confirmed that's because there's nutmeg in there, like a lot. No one came to offer a second drink, not ever. The manager argued with me when I told him they should have just changed the name and this upset my daughter. No respect for the history. Hope they fail since they already messed up. There's like 3 fancy places on the same block if you're looking for that.

Yelp
I have been by this place a million times but first time in, post-Sunday church (with a group of 7). The restaurant has two spaces divided, on one side an elevated area up about 4 steps and kind of a tight area but this side has a big TV and welllllll Sunday football was on so we divided up our group between two tables to fit (there was already a group up there). The other side did have space for all of us but alas- the game! I had a cheeseburger and got to choose the cheese (blue) and how I wanted the burger prepared. I went with the sweet potato fries. I got a chocolate malt - after all UMmmm malt shop! The malts came out right away and it was two malt glasses worth. Yum! I was able to get extra glasses and spoons and shared with my family. The food came pretty quick. Except one of the entrees was accidentally forgotten. The manager brought it out soon after and indicated "no charge" - I guess the server was fairly new. Hey these things happen! We all have to learn. My burger was very good and I loved the malt, the fries were average as sweet potato fries go. Appreciated the nice service and their patience with us as we lingered because we were visiting.

Yelp
If you're looking for fine dining, this is not the right place to be. But if you're looking for a pillar of the community with family-friendly vibes and really great shakes and malts, this is for you! These days I stop in more for ice cream treats than for savory fare, but I'm immensely grateful to have it in the neighborhood and I'm never disappointed. Get the waffle fries, skip the salad, and always say yes to dessert!

Yelp
Been in business since the early 70s apparently and while I've heard about it I never had the chance to come in until recently. It has a nice neighborhood feel to it. The old style booths, the fixtures etc. It just has the vibe of a place I would hang out about once a week or so. The menu is on par with what you would expect in a malt shop/diner. Lots of burgers, salads, sandwiches, but also some takes on this you might now expect (spinach mushroom lasagna). Ordered the Black and Bleu Burger (Cajun patty, balsamic carmelized onion, bacon). I've had a ton of this type burger across town (it my default in a place I'm unfamiliar with). It stacks up well against the others. That with some fries and a beverage is good eating. Looks like a good neighborhood hangout for those fortunate enough to live close. Small lot in the back I think, but parking is primarily on the street. We ended up on a neighborhood street around the corner so its all good. Nice lunch. Have to make a note to myself to come back and actually have a malt.

Yelp
We went with a group of four kids and the small shakes for $6 each were super small! The medium size for $2 more was like four times the amount. I definitely felt that was not worth the amount of money charged.
