Where To Celebrate Old Fashioned Week in LA | Eater

"This Westchester modern bistro is versatile. Travelers on a layover from the airport can sneak into its dark environs for a rendezvous with a dry-aged Delmonico steak, while students from the nearby college can grab one of the best cheap burgers in the area. (You’ll find that item during happy hour, and on Saturday night’s special “cocktail hour” from 9 p.m. until closing). Both parties, though, will want to sit at the bar, chat with one of the friendly bartenders, and grab an Elijah Craig old fashioned, poured over the bar’s hand-cut block ice." - Vox Creative

Great spot for cocktails and dinner. It’s unassuming from the outside, but the vibe inside is great. The bartenders and servers are very friendly, and food is excellent. My favorite is the burger, but everything I have had is amazing. They also have a great happy hour menu from 4-6 I believe.

Very elevated food and ambiance. Terrific crafted drinks. Try the Turkish Delight if you like Tiki drinks....

Google
Food: The food is okay, but the ambiance is superb - it’s dimly lit and they offer a good selection of drinks. Parking: they have a few spaces behind the building and there are a few (unmetered) spots in front. Tips: You probably want to chill here for the vibe and drinks. The front entrance is easy to miss, it’s off centered to the left when looking at the black bricks. They have both bar and booth seating.

The Manchester is a local gem! The Manchester burger will transport you right back into the red plastic booths of the Bobs Big Boy of your youth (iykyk), and the cocktails are crafted by some of the best artists around. Behold the Manchester Seagull. Crisp, refreshing, a bit spicy and pure cocktail art.

For my first time being here, the vibe was really nice. It’s my sisters birthday today so we went! We had a nice time. The drinks weren’t watered down! We ordered Mai Tai’s and margaritas with Shots. Food: I ordered the grilled cauliflower with oyster mushrooms. Sis ordered sichuan wings &. Fries. Friend ordered the burger 🍔 and Fries 🍟. I really loved the cauliflower and the avocado 🥑 Mousse sauce was great! The mushrooms could’ve been cooked longer to my liking. Wings had great flavor and the burger was decent. Small like in&out but pretty good. Fries. Crispy and good.

Google
Good meal last night, but definitely some notable pluses and minuses. First - the food. Food was great! Huge veggie tray app, fresh and good to share. A few tasty margarita’s. Salmon was cooked perfect, and the cauliflower a delicious “char”. The only not so great was the chocolate pots du crème - a bit hard and not tasty at all. Overall, food was delicious. Atmosphere was fun, high energy, upbeat, cross of date nights and friends. The downsides - service could have been a bit more attentive - not bad, but room for improvement. No one greeted us upon arrival, so a bit confusing. Then after we ordered, our food came out super quick - all at once - appetizer and mains. It sure would have been nice to enjoy more than one cocktail, and have our app come out first - having time to enjoy it. Then have it taken away to make room for our main course. But weirdly - it was all at once - not a great dining experience - shame, because the food is very good just overwhelmed and could enjoy an app and main and feel so rushed. Then, our server was nice - but asked if she could give us our check, never asked if we wanted dessert? And we did - and we had to ask her! We got the chocolate - and sadly, maybe that’s why she didn’t offer dessert, it was the only food that was not good at all. Finally - tequila is one of the hottest “spirits” these days, yet despite a well stocked bar they offered only one “house” tequila … some Fortaleza repo would have been nice, any “choice” of more than one would have been nice. So - we ended up taking most of our food home in a brown bag, just weird not having time to enjoy a night out - to be so rushed and sent on our way - no pacing - no dessert ask, not great training. So - mixed. Knowing this - I’d suggest “apps first please” - don’t rush us. I’d have spent more time, more money, more joy - but they crushed what should have been a great night out.

Google
I like this place but had somewhat a bad experience. Ordered a burger and fries. Told server very well done on the burger. First bite nothing but pink meat. Terrible. Chefs just don't take pride in their work anymore. So then the bill comes. $192. A litte high but ok. I give the server my card tell him it's $150 on the card and gives him an extra $60 In cash to cover the rest. Card statement comes they only charged me $132. What happened to my change? Kinda suspicious

Google
We were looking for an evening bite after landing at 8pm and this place still had kitchen open at 9pm so we went. The food was amazing, way better than we expected. We got the tuna tartare and streak frites and everything about it was good, from the texture of the steak to the sauce. The entrance was also hard to find and we kept walking past it, a fun hidden door into a pleasant surprise. Loved it!

Yelp
My daughter was staying at the hotel (The June) across the street, so it was a no brainer to try this very small and unobtrusive place. Right on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester. It was larger inside than we imagined, the staff was friendly and well informed. I had actually wanted to go her for quite some time, so we were due. The four of us had a great meal and the bonus was that we knew we were appreciated as customers. We will be back.

Yelp
Nice ambiance Great to find a lounge bar nearby with a city vibe Needs live Dj & dancing would be fun

Yelp
It's hard to pinpoint exactly what type of food joint this--gastropub or just elevated bar with some great offerings. Whatever it is, the food and drinks were excellent here, as befits the price of most of them. There was not one dish that was a letdown or somewhat lacking in any way. My steak frites came out quite medium rare where I didn't wish it could've been more one way or the other. And the other standout dish were the clams, which were a good counterpoint to the beef. Our waiters had us covered and were checking constantly for anything else we might need. And the whole night was just memorable.

Yelp
The Manchester completely exceeded my expectations. I searched "steakhouse near me" on Yelp and found The Manchester to be the closest place. However, I was not up for the arduous task of gritting ready, so the gamble for take out was in the cards this evening. Boy oh boy were we blown away! The flavors of each meal were so unique, fresh, delicious and of the highest quality! I must admit, I had a bit of FOMO when I walked into this establishment thinking, "maybe a nice dinner out would have been a better option," but honest - nope! It was just as great of an experience to each from the comfort of my own home. I look forward to returning for the full experience!

Yelp
My husband and I first visited the Manchester earlier in 2024, and enjoyed our dining experience there. We've since been back a few times for dinner. The Manchester is a casual restaurant in the Westchester neighborhood of Los Angeles. It's dark inside with no windows and not much light, so it doesn't feel like a typical LA restaurant. You can easily find free parking nearby. The menu has options for both vegetarians and meat-eaters, but there are only a few vegetarian options. Service has always been efficient and friendly. My husband especially likes coming here during happy hour for the $5 burger, which is a steal. I think the food here has generally been good, but I didn't love my steak the last time I was here, and I don't think this is a restaurant worth coming to if you don't live nearby.

Yelp
Little place on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester to hang and meet up with friends or maybe a date. The menu has a select few items but not lots of options and a high price point. We entered from the back and it was by a construction barricade, not too safe if you drinking alot. One guy walked around serving plates to tables while the other staff huddle at the bar corner. Ordered steak fries, the meat was tasty but it was a small steak cut into 5 or 6 pieces with salad and wonky looking fries. $39 we said whewww. Lol We were in budget mode so this was not the place to be. The steak was well seasoned, the fries were a bit over cooked and the salad had too much lemon but it worked itself out in the end. The warm olives appetizer... warmed olives in a bowl for $10 or so, it's not my thing. Old fashion was $19, I'm like wwhere are we? A visible speakeasy on the corner. $85 for a dish, a drink, a beer and warm olives... Hmm

Yelp
The Manchester is a great find while in the LAX region of town that will wash all the travel away from one who has either, landed, is en route to the airport, or God forbid, delayed. The sexy ambiance matches the diverse complex cuisine here. The beef tartare was phenomenal and paired with a Manhattan makes for a great starter. We shall definitely return to The Manchester with friends to celebrate and we have only begun to make you part of our LA experience.

Yelp
Consistent food. Decent service. Good bartenders with yummy and strong drinks. Love the new patio. Nice neighborhood spot.

Yelp
I didn't come here for years because I thought it was mostly a bar but they have a full food menu, friendly staff, and mocktails and NA beer. Perfect for a date night with my son!
google avatar

Montse S.

Yelp
The entrance was hard to find but I got lucky and parked next to the fried chicken restaurant and walked over to the corner. It is a speakeasy so look for the discreet sign. Wow! Whoever is cooking there knows what they are doing and the service represents the restaurant well. It is a dark well decorated room with a bar and a variety of levels to fit in large and small groups

Yelp
Yum yum! I tried the happy hour at The Manchester with a dear friend. I didn't even know they had a happy hour! She and I arrived right as the doors opened lol. We both had the house red wine, the potato chips, and the cheeseburger. Everything was great. The lighting inside is pretty dim. So be prepared for that. I could see it being a really great date spot, too. Service was also fantastic. Both of us will definitely be returning soon! :)

Yelp
came to the manchester with a friend after a long day. it was a bit hard to find from the parking out back, but we knew it from the neon sign we were in the right place. it was dim and cozy inside so it would definitely make for a cute date night! i asked the server for cocktail recommendations (i prefer sweet drinks) and he was pretty heavy-handed in recommending the number 9. i liked it, but i might try something else if i came in again. we got the manchester burger and fries + the steak frites. while the steak was cooked nicely, i much preferred my simple burger. the portions were a bit small, but it was a solid meal.

Yelp
The food was delicious but the customer service was the cherry on top. I ordered the steak frites and LOVED the fries and condiments but my steak was initially *very* chewy. I had a hard time with it but tried to eat it anyway while my friend ordered the same thing with no issue. I mentioned it to a server and without hesitation he took my plate (with almost all salad + fries eaten btw) and the kitchen remade my food. I got an entirely new plate, the steak was perfect and two different people checked in on me to make sure it was done well this time. They went above and beyond and I could not have enjoyed my dinner more. The ambiance is also super sweet and moody, we sat on the patio and that still held true. I want to come back here with my fiancé I loved it so much. The flan was also soo good!!

Yelp
Food was ok. The menu was fairly limited. We all felt that while tasty it wasn't worth what they charged.

Yelp
From the moment you're greeted at the door to when you square away the bill, the Manchester is gem of a restaurant. Ive tried most of the menu already and hands down the Steak and fries are a 10 outta 10. The braised beef and the salmon are great too. Manchester also has a knowledgeable bar staff that can craft you a perfect cocktail as well. I've had a go from the vodka dirty martini, old fashion all the way to a mojito. All of them perfect. The place is dimly lit and not loud at all, which can make it an exceptional place to have a peaceful dinner. Great for intimate party of 2 or mmmaybe groups of up to six I think. Overall: It's always an enjoyable time to stop by here for a quality dinner and served up by an exceptional staff member. Looking forward to becoming a regular. Cheers!

Yelp
What an amazing experience, it was my son's 21st birthday. I'm an out-of-towner and randomly picked the Manchester hoping for a great birthday dinner for my son. We had the steak, it was cooked perfectly and the fries were awesome too. We got complimentary dessert, which was amazing. And Icing on the cake we got birthday shots. Great customer service!!!

Yelp
We really like The Manchester and use it often. The service is always great and the cocktails and food top notch. Happy hour burgers are a firm favorite. It is a little dark and can be loud though.

Yelp
This spot was a little tricky to find. Had to confirm with my gps a couple times to make sure I was in the correct place. There wasn't too much parking in the area, just a few spots in the back and the rest was street parking. It has a very unassuming exterior with just a plain blue neon sign above its windowless storefront. If you're not careful, you'll walk right past their very subtle door. It almost felt like we were entering a secret club. As uninviting as its exterior was, it was very cozy and welcoming once we got inside. We were seated in a roomy booth and were promptly served a bottle of water. Our server checked on us often and was very helpful. It wasn't a very extensive menu but had some interesting options on there. I opted for the bordeaux braised short rib, which came with parmesan polenta and grilled asparagus. It was a tasty entree and quite filling. We finished our meal with the winston seasonal pecan pie with vanilla ice cream. Definitely a place worth trying.

Yelp
Headed to LA, I was looking for a little restaurant with a homegrown (I'm from Philly), feel, and this was it. A professional restaurant with a cozy feel. The menus featured their regular items as well as some seasonal specials. I had the Miso salmon and my daughter had a curry bowl. We both enjoyed our meals. There was a variety of food to choose from including vegetarian and gluten free options. The restaurant wasn't too big or too small and has a private room to host events. Our food came out in good time and the wait staff was friendly. While I just had a spite, my teenager had a mocktail. You can see it in the picture.
google avatar

Yelp
Kind of a hidden brown door entrance, with ample street and back parking. Our server was amazing so sweet and attentive. The food is another level, veggies that are flavorful and hearty portions. the Kumamoto oysters were amazing, not "fishy" or gritty but fresh and clean. The inside was a little louder but cute and clean. Highly recommend if you're in the area.

David I.

Yelp
The burger was a total rip off. They changed their signature burger that was amazing to a In and Out burger for 16$. I'll go to In-N-Out the next time I want In-N-Out Burger.

Delaney D.

Yelp
I can't say enough amazing things about this place! We stumbled upon this restaurant on NYE, with no reservations we sat at the bar and ordered drinks and steak. It was cooked perfectly and these were some of the best fries I've ever had in my life. Staff was so kind, was an intimate yet relaxed ambiance and the perfect way to bring in the new year with friends. I'd love to come back to this hidden gem!
google avatar

Yelp
Great spot to grab a quick drink and some small bites. Darker setting inside , with craft cocktails on their menu. Isn't very busy, any time i've gone so you are sure to have a nightcap in minutes. Great place to grab that espresso martini!

J D.

Yelp
My favorite. I'm comfortable with the dark, relaxing, ambiance and tasty dishes. Music perfect, not overwhelming. Edward is an awesome server, attentive, prompt, knowledgeable of the menu. Tonight was the mushroom toast. Totally satisfying with oyster mushrooms and a plethora of flavors. The flan was delicious and smothered in an amazing sauce and complimented with fresh blackberries. The martini was served as requested....filthy and smooth .

Yelp
Ah... The Manchester. My 2 sisters and I drove in from San Diego to attend a concert at the Kia Forum. We tasked our middle sister to find a spot nearby to kill some time, get a bite to eat and some drinks before the concert. She suggested a few spots, but they were quickly vetoed. I found the Manchester and from the looks of the pictures, it looked like a cute spot. We plugged in the directions and off we went. When we arrived, to the address (we circled the spot a few times before realizing it was right in front of our eyes), we were a little skeptical about our establishment choice. But like they say, don't judge a book by it's cover. Upon entering, inside was quite dark and had a bit of a sketchy vibe, from behind the bar, we were welcomed in by the bartender (Ben). We took our seats at the bar and that's when the fun began! We came during happy hour and ordered a bunch of different items and drinks. Ben was so cool, very attentive and accommodating (my sis has some food allergies). The food was great, they had quite a variety of menu items. I'm looking forward to returning to this hidden gem during football season!
google avatar

Yelp
Came here for happy hour is and the burger/fries is such a great deal! Paired with a few cocktails, this is the perfect spot. The service is quick and amazing! And the inside was cozy and dark.

Yelp
it hurts to let the secret out because this may be the best place in the marina. a dark locals hillstone if you will with spectacular food that may not be as evolved as hillstone but more than makes up for with style and care. one drink is enough to send my girl home eager if not willing. but the food is great and a great value and the staff cares and want you to enjoy yourself in there very nicely appointed hip-oasis. just don't make the best kept secret too busy please but definitely you will have a good time drinking or eating at the manchester.

Yelp
You know when you pick a place hoping it's going to be great, and it's... GREAT!!! Searching for a dinner spot not far from LAX (a business colleague was in town, staying on LAX hotel row), I stumbled upon The Manchester on Yelp. Well? It was GREAT! Service was excellent - friendly and efficient. Ambiance - very hip, but not off-putting Alcohol selection - top-end, some great bottles & local craft beer Food - outstanding! Our group ordered and ate the following: Grilled Cauliflower Local Burrata Steak Frites Sauteed Barramundi Flan Dark Chocolate Pots De Creme All excellent. I was so happy to have such a GREAT experience at The Manchester - 5 stars! I can't wait to return.

Yelp
Some people mentioned the speakeasy vibe and I definitely got that when I walked in. It was a lot darker than I envisioned but I liked the vibe. Food was great! I got the short ribs and it didn't disappoint. Didn't really need a knife for the meat...it basically just peeled apart on its own. The asparagus has a nice char flavor to it which added a nice kick to the dish. Parking: there are lots of street parking options in the residential area surrounding the restaurant. But, there is a parking lot for KFC I think and my friends parked here (right next to the restaurant) and everything was fine. Entrance: it's not the most noticeable entrance. If you're not paying attention, you can easily miss the one door. A lot of people from previous years mentioned having to enter through the back. This is no longer true. While you can, they have opened the front door that faces Lincoln blvd now. They definitely seemed short staffed but they were all so pleasant and accommodating despite this. We waited for a bit initially but our drinks and food came out quick once we ordered.

Cristian P.

Yelp
Lauren and chayo if I spelled his name right Were amazing. From cocktails to service they did not disappoint at alll. Lauren was very knowledgeable in the food at what we should expect and gave us the full experience. Chayo was an absolute beast behind the bar and paring us with the perfect cocktail or wine to go with our steak and clam order Cherry on top they do not miss on hospitality and how they should treat consumers... coming back for Lauren and chayo

Gennie P.

Yelp
This place is just awesome! My boyfriend and I first visited this restaurant/bar last summer and were amazed. It's very small (blink and you'll miss it on the corner of Lincoln and Manchester), but has a wonderfully hip, cool mid century modern vibe inside. It was a pleasant surprise given the location - as the area is not known for "hip" bars. The food is consistently excellent and the drinks are decently priced. The real deal is the happy hour where you can get a burger for $6. The house red wine is surprisingly good as well. We've tried most of the items on the menu (after having returned at least 4 more times now), and really... everything is tasty! You can also walk in just about any night of the week and get a table or a seat at the bar. Staff is friendly and service is very good. It's cozy, cool and our go-to place for a drink now!
google avatar

Jason M.

Yelp
Incredible food! Love the happy hour burger. Great selection of entrees to choose from. Great service from Edward. Will definitely be back next time we're in LA!

Yelp
Honestly so delicious and amazing oysters ! espresso martini was very strong.. Came here for my husbands birthday and we both loved everything about it !

Yelp
We had a great evening with friends @ the Manchester. It was our first time trying the place & everything was great starting from cocktails, bread, warm olives & the dinner. Also, can't forget about our great server Boni he was very attentive & helped with our selections. Definitely a place to return to.
google avatar

Rebecca H.

Yelp
Fantastic food and drinks! The hamburger and fries were so good, especially after two weeks in Japan. Was craving a real hamburger! My niece had mussels and my sister the steak, they enjoyed their dishes. Drinks were well made. Service was great, friendly and helpful. My only complaint was finding it! At night there's a blue neon sign, but during the day it's just a plain brown door between a liquor store and Italian restaurant. It's there! And worth it!!!
google avatar

Bill B.

Yelp
Stopped in for late night drinks and eats after a late arrival at LAX. As mentioned in other reviews, the front door is lacking some signage, but things start looking up once inside. At 10pm on a Thursday, it was pretty lively; the decor seems to be a mix of upscale 1970s Las Vegas and speakeasy (no windows, fairly dark); the crowd was an assortment of younger adults, sports fans, and a couple mysterious "do they look familiar?" types. The service was prompt, and luckily the kitchen a still open. The burger and chicken sammie were somewhat on the smaller side, but delicious, as was the Dijon aioli served with the fries. Would definitely go back for another round.
google avatar

Ashley F.

Yelp
Love this place, very cozy, romantic almost. Great Service, very attentive! No complaints, food was great! Was able to accommodate my preferences! They have their own tequila which was pretty good, coming from a tequila connoisseur(self proclaimed)!!! Can't wait to return!
google avatar

Nick S.

Yelp
Good food. Even better service . We had their happy hour last time we came and it was a great deal . The place was busy and lights were dim. Kinda like a club . Would recommend anyone if they had a date or a night out with friends
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
A thousand-percent my kind of place. Easy to miss the neon sign when driving by, this mid-century LAX-area hang out is cocktail oriented, with great food. Come for the cocktails, but enjoy the food, especially the small shareable appetizers. Near LAX but easy parking.
google avatar

Anatashia L.

Yelp
Loving this speakeasy. First off, you've got to pay attention because you may pass it. Generally, there's street parking but watch the signs. I seriously enjoyed the meatballs. The presentation, level of flavor and spice was amazing, especially the shaved bonito anddddd the yuzu. Great combination. We ordered the burgers off of HH. Again, loved the presentation and the crispy fries. Burger wasn't thick, more like a smash burger and decent flavor. This is definitely a hot spot, good for catching up with friends!

Angel L.

Yelp
I had an incredible experience here! Ben, Chayo, Balam, Bonnie, and Omar are absolute 10/10 customer service professionals. Their energy and professionalism are unmatched, making the entire dining experience unforgettable. The food was amazing, and the drinks were also a solid 10/10. I'm definitely telling my friends and family to come by and experience this place for themselves. Highly recommend! Try their espresso martinis, lemon drops and / or old fashions

Annie S.

Yelp
Yummy ! :) good late night happy hour and the burger is notable. Great ambiance and drinks.

R K.

Yelp
I've been to this restaurant once, I sat at the bar and had dinner. The service was good, they don't rush or push you for your next drink order. When you raise your hand they come over. I like that more laid back service. Nothing worse that wait staff always bothering you. The food was good, I had the short rib. The meat was nicely cooked and served on a bed of mashed and grilled asparagus. I give it a good rating because it is on the pricey side for a neighborhood spot. Be aware that the beer menu is limited, the focus is on cocktails. I will go back to this place.
google avatar

Sarah D.

Yelp
This place is really cute, kind of a hidden gem in the city. Went on a Wednesday night, it wasn't too busy, we sat at the bar, I had oysters and my boyfriend d had the rib eye, the cocktails were crafted well. I will be back
google avatar

Cyn A.

Yelp
Pass by here all the time & finally went in for dinner. Great cocktails & food. Friendly staff. Definitely visiting again

Nicole C.

Yelp
Ambiance is great. Wasn't sure what to expect from the exterior, but the lighting and space inside has a cozy but moody vibe with the dim lighting. Our table ordered the Jidori Chicken Schnitzel, Duck Cassoulet, and Barbera Braised Short Rib. Everything tasted excellent - good portions, great flavor. We also ordered the Dark Chocolate Pots De Creme and while we expected something a little different, it was still excellent and we finished the serving. Mocktails were tasty. Service was quick, efficient and friendly. Loved our experience and will definitely be back.

SasquatchJerky _.

Yelp
Nothing special. The workers were all very nice, but the food was mediocre. Everything just tasted very basic, but not super fresh. Except some kind of vegetable tray we had which had an almost ridiculous amount of vegetables on it and they were all very good.
google avatar

Benjamin B.

Yelp
Everything was fantastic from the service to the vibe of the space. The food was phenomenal. We shared a few appetizers including the market vegetables with black hummus, the warm olives, and the toasted bread with tomato butter. The drink selection is great, especially their hand picked selection of whiskeys. I'm a huge bourbon fan and they have some super desirable bottles to choose from. I ordered the Dry-aged 24 oz Delmonico, it was perfectly seasoned and prepared. Highly recommend, I will definitely be back.

Yelp
This place is a local treasure! Definitely get steak frites and any drink from their menu. This gives bar vibes but is one of the best restaurants around. Lauren, Ben and entire staff are always so hospitable. Can't recommend enough!
