6 Hotels That Feel Like Private Art Galleries - AFAR

"A Soho hotel opened in September 2024 that celebrates creative, unexpected design—from Nicholas Shurey’s lobby sculptures to Hannes Peer’s shimmering mirrors, gold accents, and bright color palette—and features Elvira Solana’s mural as the focal point of the on-site restaurant, The Otter. The duplex penthouse is a standout artful space: an 1,800-square-foot, two-level suite with double-height windows, bold red lacquer furnishings and plush carpet that reference the modern, monochromatic offices of a late iconic fashion designer, and layered artistic details such as coffee-table books, distinctive light fixtures, and sweeping city views." - AFAR

The Manner, SoHo’s Buzziest New Hotel, Is Like Staying at Your Most Stylish Friend’s Home | Vogue

"When walking down the leafy sidewalk of SoHo’s Thompson Street, it’s fairly easy to miss The Manner. Sure, the hotel is one of the neighborhood’s buzziest new openings in years, having recently hosted fashion week parties for Coach and Off-White (the latter even bringing Madonna through its doors) before it officially opened at the end of September. But to the average passerby—or even to me, when I pulled up to its entrance from the airport on an unseasonably warm afternoon earlier this month—it looks more like a ritzy apartment building from the outside than, well, a hotel. (There’s no big, flashy sign: just a discrete but smartly-dressed doorman or two, and a smattering of well-heeled guests sipping cocktails behind the bushes that surround the outdoor terrace.) For a hotel that’s already making a splash, the way it presents itself to the outside world seems remarkably restrained. Once you step inside, however, you’ll quickly learn that “restrained” is not the operative word here—quite the opposite, in fact. Entering the lobby, your eye is led from the sleek golden fireplace across the lavishly marbled floors sliced into vaguely astrological patterns to a pair of globular totemic sculptures by the Danish artist Nicholas Shurey. Before I could gawp too long at the fabulously retro water feature by the check-in desk—with its diamond-shaped metal spouts and speckled granite panels, it could be straight out of a chichi office building in 1970s Milan—I’m quickly whisked up by one of the front desk staff (dressed in a sleek outfit designed by Michael Halpern, nonetheless) to my fifth-floor suite, a riot of color that comes together to form a strangely pleasing whole. Every wall is either mirrored or painted in an eye-popping shade of shiny, egg-yolk yellow, accented with glossy mahogany, hot red cabinets, and slivers of gold. Think Gio Ponti on acid, with a dash of classic New York, Studio 54-worthy glitz." - Liam Hess

Alex Stupak to Open the Otter and Sloane’s Inside Soho Luxury Hotel the Manner | Eater NY

"Backed by the Standard Hotel group, this new luxury hotel seeks to be the more grown-up sister to The Standard’s properties; the property (formerly the Sixty Soho Hotel) has swapped check-in desks for digital systems as part of an effort to eliminate forced hospitality interactions and move toward the feeling of a private club." - Emma Orlow

The Manner Soho (New York City, New York) Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"This address on Thompson Street has long been part of boutique-hotel history, but The Manner is a fresh start, both for this neighborhood and for its parent company, Standard International. There’s no trace of the minimalist look that used to rule Downtown hotels, nor of its beige cousin “quiet luxury.” Instead you’ll find colorful and richly textured interiors, and an atmosphere that calls to mind a particularly glamorous residence. It’s more discreet than opulent, though its ground-floor restaurant and its swanky cocktail bar are bound to attract attention." - Tablet Hotels

A Review of The Manner in Soho, New York City

"Tucked on tree-lined Thompson Street in Soho, this 12-story boutique hotel—opened in late September by the team behind The Standard—offers 97 guest rooms (including 10 suites and a penthouse) and a five-star, intimate atmosphere. Guests are greeted by a well-dressed doorman and a spa-like check-in where fountain sounds and a vaulted ceiling with a cascading crystal chandelier set a calm, refined tone. Interior design fuses 1970s retro with maritime touches—think porthole-style lavatory doors, glossy dark wood, tangerine-hued walls, floor-to-ceiling mirrors, and jewel-toned velvet upholstery—accented by Hannes Peer's signature gold leaf details and elegant light fixtures. Rooms feature earthen brown‑marbled rain showers with Costa Brazil bath essentials, Lenys World Italian slippers, plush towel‑textured robes, and some private balconies overlooking the Empire State Building; a no‑TV policy encourages exploration of the hotel’s dining and drinking venues. Amenities include a rooftop, two restaurants, a bar, room service, free Wi‑Fi, breakfast service, and a 24‑hour front desk; rates start at around $899/night. The property has quickly become a fashion‑forward hotspot after hosting a star‑studded Fashion Week soirée."

Let’s start with the staff—we met the manager Nicole and she was absolutely wonderful. Informative, kind, and knowledgeable. The rest of the staff treats you more like their home guests than people at a hotel. What about the food? Breakfast and dinner was great—from the inventive drinks, to the Nutella stuffed pancakes, everything was properly cooked and hit the spot good. Let’s get back to the atmosphere….this hotel would sit just as well in soho as in south beach. The right touch of cool, with the warmth of a classic high class place. Rooms were well put together, large for New York, and fun. The location also cannot be beat. In short, we (and you) have found your spot in New York.

The hotel was amazing. Shay was extremely helpful. Every employee we encountered was sweet. We loved the rooftop bar. The views and drinks were amazing. The somewhat hidden Sloan bar had a cool vibe. Our room was over the top. We will stay at The Manner every time we come to NYC.

The Manner came recommended to a friend who lives in the area and has stayed there as a staycation. Everything in our experience was very high quality. The breakfast, room, aperitivo, and rooftop are all excellent and the location is great. Would happily stay there again

The Manner Hotel is an absolute gem—honestly one of the best hotel stays I’ve had in New York City, and I’ve stayed at many. It’s got that rare boutique magic: the rooms are thoughtfully designed, effortlessly chic, and spotless. The whole place has this understated cool—like a quiet confidence in knowing it’s doing everything right without needing to shout about it. The staff? Impeccable. Friendly without being fake, helpful without hovering. From check-in to late-night requests, everything was seamless. You really get the sense they care about the guest experience, which is not always a given in NYC. It feels like a hidden secret—tucked away but close to everything. Whether you’re in town for Broadway, meetings, or just a stylish getaway, this place delivers on every front. I almost don’t want to review it so it stays under the radar, but credit where it’s due: this is one of NYC’s standout boutique hotel experiences.

Stylish, warm, and full of personality — The Manor is a standout in Soho and a refreshing addition to Hyatt’s Unbound Collection. My room was huge, with bold egg-yolk yellow walls, a large balcony, and great views. No gym onsite, but they give you a pass to Equinox Soho, which is fantastic. Loved the mix of Brazilian, Australian, and Mediterranean design. Breakfast was especially memorable — a spicy green curry with poached egg balanced perfectly by a sweet cardamom bun. The oysters at The Otter were excellent, and the lobster roll was a thoughtful, gourmet version. The staff really made the stay — welcoming, helpful, and genuinely kind. Highly recommend for a staycation, vacation, or even a stylish business trip.

My stay at The Manner was an immersion in an elegant retreat that combines the charm of a sophisticated home with contemporary urban style. The hotel boasts impeccable artistic design! Each space conveys a sense of aesthetic comfort, thoughtfully crafted without excess! The service is warm and welcoming, with hospitality that makes you feel as if you've been welcomed into the home of a stylish friend.

Fun hotel and great location. Like the lobby set up has a good vibe. Didn’t go to a restaurant unfortunately. Looked so cool though. I’m also very happy that the prices have come down to a more realistic point than they were at the beginning of the year. It was virtually one of the most expensive in the city until they realized the limits

This is a 3 star hotel dressed up as a luxury property. Service is fine, not exceptional. Food was mediocre. No vegan options on breakfast menu. The Apartment concept wasn’t my cup of tea. I didn’t really find it comfortable, and the few times I stopped by for coffee there was none there. In the room, noise carries very loudly from the hallways. There are no TVs in the rooms and maybe this is why. Bath products are nice, and bed/linens very comfortable. Overall, at this price point there are much better hotel options around. I probably won’t stay again.

Yelp
When we arrived, they told us they were 100% full, but we could wait to see if anything opened up. We decided to wait a few mins and my husband immediately got a reservation and they magically found a table. We get upstairs and more than half of the tables are completely empty. The service was terribly slow. The waitress would stand by the bar on her phone. We both only had one drink as it would've taken forever to even be able to order another. $30 for an espresso martini. $30 for a tequila. We waited for 20 mins before we even ordered by the way. The waitress would just walk past and look at us. They told us it was last call, but we were ready to close out anyway. Then they proceed to sit 2 groups of 6 people as we were walking out after "last call". Such a strange place with terrible service. Will NEVER go back.

Yelp
My mom and I came to the hotel to ask if we could have a drink in the bar and we were told there was no availability. As we were waiting for our uber they told us that we weren't allowed to sit in the lobby to wait despite the 30 degree weather. They were extremely rude. We were going to stay at this hotel next weekend and are canceling our stay.

Yelp
I checked in at the hotel and went to the front desk. First of all, we had to carry all 13 of our bags up 2 flights of stairs because the elevators are broken. Then they gave us a room key and once we got up to the second floor and swiped the key, we immediately saw other people's things and the room was clearly being used. What if someone was in there changing? Gross. Then we go back down and they give us a new room on the third floor so we had to lug all 13 of our bags back up another flight of stairs to the third floor. Once we got to our room we thought it was over, but we turned on the ac and it sounded like a damn lawn mower. It was actually so loud. We turned it off immediately and tried the thermostat and sure enough it was broken. This was our last straw. They gave us a full refund and we checked into another hotel but this is completely unacceptable and terrible service. Would not recommend.
