"Part of the Paul Ainsworth stable, this large and popular pub is the ideal spot for some hearty British food while on your seaside holiday. You can arrive in the picturesque village of Rock via the ferry from Padstow, before grabbing a seat on the terrace which boasts stunning views over the Camel Estuary. The extensive menu is chock full of Cornish produce – be it cheddar, monkfish or mussels – with a seasonal menu sitting alongside 'Mariners Classics' such as shepherd's pie and fish & chips. For dessert, you can't go wrong with a crumble." - Michelin Inspector

No-shows? No thanks!

"In Rock, Cornwall, this spot suffered 27 no-shows in one night; Paul Ainsworth took to Instagram to express understandable frustration and to highlight how such behaviour affects not only the business but also its staff and their families." - The MICHELIN Guide UK Editorial Team

Had a fabulous lunch here. The food was outstanding. Service good and lovely views. The anniversary card was a lovely touch. Highly recommend.

Perfect! We were greeted at the door by a charming Frenchman. All of the Staff were extremely professional and friendly. The food was amazing, inventive and traditional alike. Very reasonably priced Well done Paul, Emma and the team

Went for dinner here while staying in Rock and was wowed by the food and service! The restaurant is set overlooking the sea and the feel is very relaxed and down to earth focusing on local drinks and produce to a very high standard. To eat we shared a scotch egg, chicken curry and gem salad side. All were exceptional! The scotch egg and curry where some of the best we have ever had! Service was also lovely and super genuine. Couldn't recommend enough if you are in Rock or looking for a proper gastropub in North Cornwall. Also thought it was very good value and reasonably priced for the outstanding quality!

Good restaurant but nothing great about it. Menu very poor, especially in seafood and fish options. We had monkfish that was ok but nothing great to justify the price. The goat cheese was really good. We had a tomato salad from the special menu that was weird and disappointing. The wine was warm and we asked ice to be added to the bucket. The young stuff that served our table really nice and helpful, however we felt rushed there.

Went in for a drink and we decided to have some snacks. Everything we had was superb. Possibly the best cabbage I’ve ever had and the truffle mayo was worth the money on its own. The scotch egg is worth a try too. We will have a proper sit down meal next year. Unfortunately I didn’t get his name but the gentleman front of house is a credit to the establishment. He couldn’t do enough for us. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We will be back. Loved it.

Beautiful location for a sunny day! Very pleasant service, if a little slow when busy. The food is very nice, though there's stiff competition in the area, and it's fairly expensive in comparison to some similar places.

Over the Camel Estuary to the Rock to visit a pub. Not just any pub, The Mariners ,which is part of the Paul Ainsworth stable. It was listed as No.5 in this years Top 50 Gastropubs . The epitome of a very British Gastropub. Upon arrival at the busiest pub we have seen in a long time,we were greeted by Mauro. What a character, instantly likeable and welcoming chap he is. As we had a reservation,we were shown upstairs to our table with a spectacular view over the estuary. The menu has an incredible selection. From small plates to classic pub grub and a specials menu. Joe Rozier,Chef director oversees the kitchen here. So you know anything you order will be amazing. It took some choosing but we evently decided on- St Enodoc asparagus, St Ewe chopped egg mayonnaise, anchovy & cress. Orkney scallops, samphire, apple & hazelnut lemon & lime. Chicken schnitzel, parmesan crust, fried St.Ewe egg, watercress & pickled shallot, caper, garlic & brown butter dressing. Dayboat Cornish monkfish, cockle & clam butter, garlic, parsley, lemon & lime, pangrattato . Sides of Skinny fries & Tenderstem broccoli. We couldn't resist having desserts. Chocolate Crème Brulee & The Mariners Trifle. We can see why this place is very popular. That's an under statement. There were people accross the road with there pints as there is not enough room for customers inside. The service and the food is incredible. If you want to dine here, make sure you book well in advance. You can even bring your doggie downstairs

I do not know what l expected at the mariners but what I got was more. There is a bar , patio , terrace and upstairs restaurant, all you can areas you can eat in. We ate upstairs very comfortable and spacious with great views across the estuary. All server’s were charming and knowledgeable, we started with the crispy oysters with horseradish really excellent. For mains we had monkfish tail with burre nosisette and clams really delicious. Finished with pineapple upside down cake very tasty. All in all a very impressive lunch, if you are in Rock l can not recommend this place highly enough treat yourself and give it a go.
