4 star ambience, 1 star service, 2 star execution.
Was immensely excited when I first heard the news about Maryland house taking the former Mandarin space. And who better to do it than the owner of one of my favorite CWE bars, no less!
But after trying this place 5 times over the past 18 months or so, I have to say it only gets progressively more disappointing each time.
It begins with the awkward "are you a member/do you have a reservation" conversation upon arrival. I understand the membership model was part of your ethos in the beginning but it's time be honest and accept that it didn't work as planned.
Once upstairs, you take a seat and are immediately asked for a credit card. Nothing says "we don't trust our customers" like requiring payment up front. Very off putting. And now's a good to mention that none of the staff seems to know how to work these card readers. It's always a struggle with them. Slow and weird to watch them stumble through the interface looking for a particular liquor.
Nevertheless, hand one of the clumsy Debby Downers your card and order a cocktail... upon which you will receive A PRE MADE COCKTAIL.
Is there anything more insulting than paying $15+ for a drink poured from a bottle that was made hours in advance?
Oh and you can be sure they bust out the measuring cup to make sure you get exactly 1.5 oz.
I understand the desire for efficiency and the whole "e-Myth book" business approach you're taking here, but man, how tone deaf do you have to be to serve customers this way? If people are in the mood for a cocktail, they want a fresh cocktail, not something made in bulk that morning.
In summary, let me save you 20 minutes of your life (because that's about how long you'll stay here) and just tell you to go ahead and go somewhere else.
