The Most Beautiful Chicago Restaurants of 2018 | Eater Chicago

"With so many quality steakhouses in Chicago, it was easy to overlook this swanky opening inside Found Chicago Hotel. Mason — a project from Los Angeles’ H.Wood Group — exemplifies classic upscale dining. Touches like leather seats, antique lighting, framed portraits, and a stylish marble bar make it an ideal candidate for places to celebrate a special occasion or have an intimate date night. The menu is similarly old school, offering oysters Rockefeller, Dover sole, and USDA Prime beef." - Jeffy Mai

The Mason itself is absolutely stunning! Modern, beautifully maintained, and thoughtfully designed. Everything is well organized, and every staff member I’ve interacted with has been friendly, professional, and genuinely helpful. I’m so grateful to call The Mason home and to be part of such a warm and welcoming community. I cannot speak highly enough of Nicole, the greatest leasing manager of all time. From the very first time I reached out with questions about the apartment, she was incredibly helpful, warm, and professional. She made the entire process feel seamless and welcoming, which immediately gave me confidence in choosing The Mason.

I've spent a lot of time at The Mason Chicago since my girlfriend lives here, and I’ll be moving in myself once my lease ends — and honestly, I can't wait. One of the biggest highlights of this building is Sabrina. She truly makes the place feel like home. She's always warm, welcoming, and full of positive energy. Whether she’s keeping us informed about building events or helping out with questions or requests, she consistently goes above and beyond. It's clear she genuinely cares about the residents, and that kind of service is rare. The Mason already has great amenities and a stylish vibe, but Sabrina is what makes it feel like a community.

I’m a new resident having a fantastic experience living at The Mason in Chicago. Not only is the building itself well-organized, spotless, and efficient, but the staff truly make a difference. The leasing office team, especially Nicole, has been incredibly helpful from day one. Nicole guided me through all the options, assisted us in making our decision, and ensured that everything was set up smoothly with keys and initial arrangements. Her positivity, proactive attitude, and constant smile really stand out. I highly recommend The Mason, ask for Nicole and you won’t regret it ✌🏼

Like living in a resort…seriously. We’ve been at The Mason for a month after moving from Boston to Chicago in May and what originally seemed like just another apartment building when we signed our lease has turned into an absolute blast of a place to live. Our apartment is clean, modern, has been well kept, and very spacious. The neighbors have been really kind, and instead of feeling like an apartment complex it does feel a bit like a mini neighborhood 👌 The first day we moved in, Nicole from the leasing office was awesome help, got us situated with the elevator, helped schedule us with maintenance to mount our TV, and even gave us restaurant recommendations around the area to get get settled in with the first few days. We live near the leasing office and she’s always on top of everything if we need help! 👏 The front desk has been extremely helpful and friendly as well, always greeting us when we walk in, getting the door and helping with packages! The amenities are wonderful, while the pool may look busy on the weekend, there’s room for everyone because it’s so big. The gym is my literally a mini equinox, the rentable rooms are amazing, and the roof deck makes for a great date night spot. I keep telling my friends and family I’m living at a resort because honestly it feels like one. Can’t recommend The Mason enough, one month in and certainly renewing when our lease is up! 🫡

Great door staff and clean property. Nice rooftop views and gym, but 1 treadmill has not been functioning for some time now. Since I started living here 2 years ago, the quality has gone down. The Property manager is often unresponsive which is very disappointing as a resident. Residents are charged to use the “Lobby bar,” which is NOT full service as marketed.

I have lived in this building for a few months with my wife and two children and very much enjoy it. The amenities are nice, the building is clean and modern, and the staff are all very helpful and friendly. Sabrina, in particular, does a wonderful job and is always going above and beyond to help. Our young daughter is always excited to say hi to her at the front desk in the mornings!

Overall, we really enjoyed living at the Mason for almost 3 years. The building is extremely clean and any issues within the unit or the amenity spaces are addressed very quickly by Mike & the maintenance team. It's easy and seamless to create a request in the app and they are at your door immediately! This definitely met expectations with regard to overall conveniences reflected by the high cost of this building. The door staff headed up by Sabrina stands out. Walking through the door to a smile, a fabulous building event, or connection with a new friend makes living here feel like home. Sabrina is always going above and beyond to manage packages, signatures, etc. and this really took a lot of stress out of my day. Living in another building now, I certainly miss Sabrina's energy and attention to detail. Alex & the leasing team are very kind and helpful with any issues. Beyond the amazing pool and overall beautiful, moody vibe of the building, the staff is really what makes the Mason stand out in a sea of similar West Loop apt buildings.

This has been one of the most upsetting experiences I’ve ever had as a tenant. I was fined $250 simply for showing my apartment to three of my family members. It was their first time ever seeing where I live. I was told I violated a “two-person rule,” even though this was not a party/gathering and we did not make any extra noise. The violation notice didn’t even come until three weeks after the fact, with no warning or chance to explain. The things is, I completely understand it was in my lease and they had the right to fine me, but I wanted to understand the reasoning a bit more. The reason I am upset is how I was treated. I emailed management multiple times, seven times to be exact, just asking for a conversation before paying this fine, and was completely ignored. Only after repeatedly following up and telling her I would not pay my fine until I had a conversation did I finally get a response. When I finally spoke with the property manager, Brandi, she laughed in my face when I told her my concerns. She didn’t listen, she didn’t try to understand, instead, she smirked and said, “this is the adult world,” as if mocking me for even asking questions and acting like I'm a child. I walked away from that conversation feeling belittled and completely disrespected. I’ve lived in Chicago amenity buildings for over 4 years and have never once experienced anything like this. I moved into this building in October and truly expected better. Instead, I’ve felt unwelcome and penalized for something so minor and reasonable. No one deserves to be treated like this in their own home. Living here has made me feel like I’m constantly walking on eggshells, afraid of being fined or dismissed for simply existing. I would not recommend this place to anyone looking for respectful management or a sense of community.

Yelp
I moved to Mason just shy of two months ago, and thus far, I have thoroughly enjoyed my time here. The amenities are fantastic, and there are ample restaurants in the area. However, my favorite part is the greeting I receive every morning when leaving for work. I met Sabrina ( one of the front desk concierges) the day I moved in. She was accommodating and friendly. I'm amazed at how she greets every resident by name and a brief "Have a nice day." To be so attentive as to remember everyone's name speaks volumes about her personality and how much she truly enjoys her position. I needed a stylist for one of my students for her prom, and she helped recommend someone who did a fantastic job on my student's hair. Sabrina truly goes above and beyond to make our stay here enjoyable. Thank you.

Yelp
I just moved out after living at the Mason for 2 years and I had a really great experience. The amenities are great, but the staff is even better. The maintenance team were always super nice and always willing to help. And the people who work the front desk security are wonderful, especially Sabrina who was one of my favorite parts about living there.

Yelp
Toured this building today and it was a beauty! The Mason is a brand new apartment building in the West Loop / Fulton Market area with 5 star amenities. From their resort style pool, to the top notch fitness equipment, with a rooftop grill area, and even a work from home office space - it's a gem. They offer studios - 3bdr apartments, with a ton of different layout options. The Mason is currently offing a 1 month free special. Only open a few weeks, this building is leasing fast and I can understand why!

Ella L.

Yelp
The absolute worst place to live in! Please take a step back and just leave if you're thinking about signing a lease here. Management is NOT helpful, the noise level is outrageous, and the parking situation in the garage...well expect to get your doors dinged because they won't do or say anything to the neighboring spots about being courteous and park in between the lines. There's a night club right downstairs and yes, you can hear the bass and the music throughout the night. I can hear it as I'm writing this right now on a Monday. The train is also right outside your window so you can expect to get a mixture of both. If you're into that sort of noise, then be my guest. The elevators are also so slow that there's usually a line out the door. Please for the love of Peter and Adam, do not live here.

Yelp
Beautiful building. The front desk people are really friendly. However, The train is loud! It may seem ok while touring, but try to sleep through a night of it. Every 15 minutes it goes by. Great amenities, however, the gym, pool, rooftop, and all amenities are closed due to the pandemic- with zero rent compensation. I moved in because I thought I could save on my usual gym membership and loved the amenities, which is how I was sold, but they closed the gym with zero concessions to residents. I understand this is an unprecedented event. But, it sure does feel like management is lacking compassion. I mean, gyms aren't currently charging for gym memberships, why hasn't the cost of living here changed? Hefty price tag for no amenities and a loud train, and zero compensation for the amenities being closed for the past 3 months. There response is "well, it's in the lease.

Yelp
We have absolutely loved living at the Mason. My boyfriend and I signed onto a lease in mid-2019 and have had no desire to leave since. We knew right away the Mason was exactly what we were looking for - modern, high-rise building in a perfect location, gorgeous pool, incredible rooftop view, massive gym, and other appealing amenities. We toured a lot of places, and the Mason's pool is arguably the nicest, most useful given its size and layout. The pool is where we've met some of our, now, closest friends. The location was one of the biggest selling points though. Being mere blocks away from the hearts of West Loop and Fulton Market gives you walking access to some of the best restaurants in the city, and the neighborhood is only getting more attractive with the ongoing development (Small Cheval is supposedly going up 1 block away...!) There's also always something going on to benefit the residents - whether that's a free wine and cookies in the lobby, free coffee at checkout from Foxtrot, X% off happy hour somewhere, etc.. Not to mention the comedy shows, musicians, and workout instructors that management brings in to host events for the building. Management is very communicative and will always keep you in the loop with building news or promotions or other important information. We have a building app you can download where you can connect with residents (there's a building marketplace to easily buy and sell items from residents), get the latest building newsletters, submit a maintenance request, pay rent - really anything you'd need. OH and can't forget about the thick concrete floors and ceilings that have prevented noise complaints from ruining countless weekends :)

Yelp
I see a lot of negative sentiment from other reviews around Covid policies and other concerns. I had an opposite experience and have felt the staff has really worked hard to adequately adjust to the environment through communications, policies and ramped up safety protocols. I moved here from Texas last February, right before Covid hit. I can say the entire staff here has done a phenomenal job given the circumstances in maintaining a thriving community. From socially distanced hosted events with local businesses, virtual events and pivoting quickly to keeping the building well sanitized and safe through enforcement of rules (the mask policies in hallways, community areas and the like have been enforced and residents have been abiding as far as I've seen. For the one or two off chance, I've seen them been asked to put on a mask. There has been regular newsletters and communications emphasizing this and penalties for not abiding) and increased levels of cleaning (the maintenance and cleaning staff has been incredible). The apartments themselves are modern, the facilities are very nice, and the neighborhood is wonderful. We made a great choice in choosing the Mason as our first home in Chicago and just renewed our lease for another 12 months.

Yelp
So... my experience with the Mason was equatable to a wild goose chase that left me with a little resentment towards this company. Due to my credit score, my application was pulled, which immediately put me at a loss, here's why. I was left with waiting almost 50 days for a refund check that was said to have arrive in 30 days or less. The level of communication between the time I was informed of my refund to the point I got my money back seemed to be majorly unprofessional and looked over. I was put in a very bad situation by Julia and Alexia and both parties seemed less helpful in times of greater need. In fact, seemed as though this motive was done on purpose. If you are interested in getting your own place, I do not recommend The Mason. Terence II

Yelp
I had a problem with my door handle but the maintenance guys are on top of it. Johnny did a great job fixing my door handle and made sure everything else in my apartment was good.

Yelp
The Mason has been an amazing place to call home the past year and a half. If it wasn't for us deciding to purchase a home, my girlfriend and I would have stayed even longer. Great location, amazing units, stellar staff, and beautiful amenities. Would recommend 100x over!

Yelp
Really, promoting a pool party with alcohol during Covid19?! Many Covid19 cases here and management did not seem too concerned. Elevator broken for months with only one available. Many people congregated by elevator to use it. Hard to social distance. Opened public spaces and said they would not sanitize, up to residents to do so. Took no responsibility for anything and did not even acknowledge concerns. Residents having parties in apartments and in public spaces and not a word to them.Apartments are not soundproofed and the noise from the train and bar next door seemed like it was in your own apartment. Told to complain to bar about the noise. Not their issue. Very unprofessional management. The maintenance workers were the only thing top notch. A family member lived here and had to move out before lease because of the lack of a Covid protocol and management that just did not care. I spent a lot of time here and could not believe how awful it was.

Rachella H.

Yelp
I toured the Mason this weekend and it's a beautiful community. Sarah was our tour guide and she was fantastic. She was so friendly and personable and made the Mason feel like a place you could call home. I highly recommend touring this building.

Michelle M.

Yelp
Amazing building! The staff is so warm and welcoming and always very responsive whenever I have any questions. I love that the building finishes are all condo quality. The location is convenient and walkable to everything I need.

Linda D.

Yelp
The Mason is simply stunning. I loved the building and the layouts - the little desk in the kitchen is brilliant. The neighborhood has everything you could ever want in walking distance. I also like the easy highway access. Every single person I saw was friendly, wore a mask, and was careful to maintain a safe distance too. The pool looks amazing. Kelly and Ava were very friendly and really knowledgeable about the property and neighborhood. I always want to rent from a company with staff who go above and beyond and I could tell right away this is the place I want to be.

S R.

Yelp
Maintenance guys at the Mason are second to no one! These guys are top notch, first class and extremely professional. If there is an issue in your apartment, place a work order and these guys respond quickly and fix the problem right away. Instant response time and ability to fix issues quickly while being extremely professional puts this maintenance crew at the top of their game! Whatever the issue may be they can fix it! Feels good to have these guys around 24/7

Javier L.

Yelp
While we're still in our first month renting, we are extremely happy with our decision to reside here. From the seamless and flexible move-in facilitated by Ava (Leasing Office), to the extremely friendly and professional services conducted by Johnny (Maintenance), we're very pleased. It truly feels like a resort here--the amenities are amazing.

Yelp
Want to thank the team here at The Mason for making my move in so easy.. The in house maintenance Johnny and Rolando are A+ .. thanks again guys for helping and answering all my requests..

Steve H.

Yelp
Great place to live when it first opened. Great location, units, amenities, etc. Then COVID hit. Even while a handful of residents got COVID here, The Mason was one of the last West Loop complexes to implement COVID safety measures. Loose enforcement of masks. Yes, everyone's been complaining about the broken elevator - hundreds of residents were forced to use one elevator during the peak of COVID. Lines of 10+ residents extending out to the lobby waiting for one elevator. Naturally, people wouldn't social distance and would want to cram in. The people that work here are all kind, but not sure if they are well-equipped to keep hundreds of residents safe. They are more focused on sending us emails about restaurant deals and IG contests in the middle of a pandemic. Had to complain to management that they needed to shift their priorities. People don't want to enter into a contest for an $80 gift card - they just don't want to get severly sick. Look elsewhere in West Loop - plenty of options and most of them do a better job maintaining a safe environment.

Krissy K.

Yelp
Horrible smoke (marijuana and cigarette) exposure at least 2 or 3 times a week that stays in your apartment as people continue to smoke. For a non-smoking building, they definitely turn a blind eye to smoking in units and do little to help you address this like move you to a different apartment. Areas of the building now have a permanent smoke smell. I have been sick more often than I can count and have had breathing issues because of this.

Anabel K.

Yelp
The Mason has fabulous amenities - beautiful swimming pool, outdoor terrace, gym, and wonderful door staff. One drawback that is VERY significant is lack of consequences for people that smoke inside their apartments, marijuana and cigarettes. The leasing office assured me that this is a smoke-free building. I have come home numerous times to an apartment that was filled with marijuana smoke. And leasing will "look into it" with poor follow-up, deferring the problem to someone else in the office, and seems like they disregard the health of their tenants. It will be really hard for the leasing office to justify the pricing and quality of the building when it smells like a frat house. There needs to be an effective plan to address this because whatever is being done or not done right now, is not enough. Or at the very least be honest about it when you rent units to people!
