Master Builder's Hotel | Best places to stay in Beaulieu

"Staying at the Master Builder’s is like checking in to a slice of Britain’s industrial history. Buckler’s Hard was a major shipbuilding centre in the 18th century, and the main house dates back to 1729, when it was home to those who designed ships for Nelson’s navy. A hotel since the 1920s, it’s a classy establishment run with real warmth, offering fine dining in the restaurant and cosy rooms that retain the heritage feel. The surrounding area offers some of the best New Forest scenery. The hotel can organise kayaks and canoes to hire for a trip along the picturesque Beaulieu River, and there are 30-minute river cruises available to book. " - Annabelle Thorpe

We had an absolutely fantastic wedding at the Master Builders House! This one-of-a-kind venue is a real showstopper, and all our guests were blown away by the stunning views. Although the weather the night before meant our ceremony had to be held indoors, it turned out perfectly—creating a warm, intimate atmosphere that felt really special. The food was exceptional (even our Michelin-starred chef guest commented on the quality!), and the whole team managed a seamless turnaround for the evening celebrations, letting us party late into the night. The atmosphere throughout the day was incredible, thanks to the amazing Master Builders team and how smoothly they worked with all our suppliers. Everything ran perfectly, and we honestly couldn’t be happier. A special shoutout to Chris, the venue manager, who was an absolute star from start to finish!

We booked the Master Builders House for our wedding. We were mightily impressed with every aspect of our experience. This beautiful venue, steeped in history, provided a wonderful backdrop for a relaxed and supremely organised day. The wedding breakfast and canapés were of exceptional quality, those with dietary requirements were very well looked after. Food was delivered swiftly to the tables by capable and efficient staff. This is just one of numerous examples where the attention to detail elevated the experience. From transferring the bride to the ceremony room without being seen, to the unexpected gift in our bridal suite, all demonstrated the meticulous thought and planning by Lizzie and the team. The whole experience was a calm, smooth and professional operation.

The Master Builders House was the perfect location for visiting the New Forest. We enjoyed lovely long walks in the forest with our dogs, admiring the beautiful autumnal light and colours, the pigs (out for pannage), donkeys and iconic ponies. The Forest was full of the most wonderful mushrooms and fungi, and incredible peaceful. We walked across the spit to Hurst Castle one day, took our binoculars to watch the birds on the marshland, then came back via the ferry. |We absolutely loved the hotel. It was perfect for us and our two collie x dogs. It’s very restful, and after a long day adventuring, walking, enjoying the history, and sightseeing in the New Forest we scoffed down our lovely dinners - kind, thoughtful staff and beautiful food. My partner is coeliac and they coped brilliantly with ensuring everything was gluten free with no risk of cross contamination. |The setting is beautiful, and every morning we wandered with the dogs for a morning constitutional down The Hard through the village to the water, before breakfast. It is SUPER dog friendly, full of dog-loving visitors and staff. We loved it and will definitely go back. It was so easy, informal, friendly and relaxing with just right amount of comfortable luxury for us and our two scruffy dogs. Would definitely recommend - especially in the Autumn

Masterbuilders is a perfect gem hidden away in the green of the woods with the water as a backdrop. We stayed in the stunning Balthazars Cottage, a real treat of country chic with the comfiest bed! Celebrating our 1st wedding anniversary we couldn't have asked for a more idyllic stay. Tilly and Ollie in Henry's Pub are a real asset, offering a personable and attentive service, as well as Meagan flying solo at breakfast also gave first class service. |We couldn't have asked for more.|We were made to feel so welcome and nothing was too much trouble.|Thank you x

Lovely location. Beautiful views and walks. Room was a good size, clean and comfortable bed. Bathroom a little tired and could do with a little TLC but overall we were very happy with the accommodation and would definitely stay again. Staff were very friendly and helpful. |We ate in Henry’s pub in the evening. Both food and service were excellent.

Just returned from a lovely stay in Balthazar Cottage. Beautiful, well equipped cottage in a Gem of a location on Bucklers Hard. Stunning views. Bed was super comfy. Great to have all the hotel amenities & good food pub on our doorstep. Lovely staff too. You can do a 2.4 mile walk into beaulieu along the river with lots to keep you busy there for a day. We had a fabulous time. October Sunshine was a bonus

Unexpected visit with my son to escape over running building work at home. What a treat! We both enjoyed our stay so much. Friday night fish and chips in the restaurant, superb breakfast (lots of choice) and Saturday morning walk to the village for coffee. So glad we spotted the flash sale and we’ll be back soon. My husband is now keen to visit because he missed out this time. Big thanks to everyone for making us so welcome. Oh - forgot to mention - it’s great to have two EV chargers on site - I was really pleased to be able to get a full charge on the hotel car park - ideal!

A massive thank you from The Legend Owner's Association. We had our Yacht Rally meal at the Master Builder's last evening. Our 25 diners had a fabulous time and were made to feel very special. The food was tremendous and the service and whole staff attitude (as we had some short notice additions...) was exemplary. Thanks again.
