Master Builder's Hotel | Best places to stay in Beaulieu

"Staying at the Master Builder’s is like checking in to a slice of Britain’s industrial history. Buckler’s Hard was a major shipbuilding centre in the 18th century, and the main house dates back to 1729, when it was home to those who designed ships for Nelson’s navy. A hotel since the 1920s, it’s a classy establishment run with real warmth, offering fine dining in the restaurant and cosy rooms that retain the heritage feel. The surrounding area offers some of the best New Forest scenery. The hotel can organise kayaks and canoes to hire for a trip along the picturesque Beaulieu River, and there are 30-minute river cruises available to book. " - Annabelle Thorpe

We got married at the beautiful Master Builders House is June this year; a stunning venue that matched our historic 1930s theme perfectly! We fell in love with the place the first time we saw it, from the beautifully understated house with all of its amazing history to the garden, river view and old-world authenticity of Buckler’s Hard.||From the beginning of our wedding journey to the day itself, the team were incredibly friendly, helpful and accommodating, going above and beyond to make sure the day was perfect for us.||The day itself couldn’t have gone better or smoother, which was entirely down to the very organised Lizzie and all of her detailed planning in the lead up to the wedding, and the whole team’s stellar organisation on the day. Mike and Chris were absolutely fantastic, our right-hand men who were brilliant at getting things done and at speed! Thanks also to Kirsty who was working away making sure that everything was running smoothly. Special thanks also to maintenance manager Josh who went above and beyond in helping to set all of our lighting up at short notice – we really appreciate all of your hard work and expertise 😊||Huge thanks to the chef and kitchen staff for the most delicious food – from the canapes to the dessert, it was all incredible and all of our very specific dietary requirements were catered for. We received so many compliments from our guests about how incredible this was.||We had the best day and can’t thank the team enough for all of your help, patience and guidance! You all went above and beyond to make sure we had the best time and everything ran smoothly – we will always remember this perfect day in the most beautiful setting😊

Had a really fantastic time visiting the Masters Arms. The staff were really nice and the food good especially seafood platter though the crudites were a little unappetizing. But the real reason for the good review is the location. Amazing setting by the river with some beautiful historic buildings surrounding it including a tiny church and a museum. All well worth visiting especially if with children.

Enjoyed our stay here (3 nights for price of 2). The room was very comfortable (room 21), with a lovely view overlooking the estuary. |The breakfast was excellent, plenty of choice and I especially enjoyed the kippers with poached eggs. We had dinner in the hotel on our first night, which was also very nice, although we didn’t like the House red wine.|The staff were all very pleasant and helpful, would certainly stay here again.

Had a lovely stay at the Master Builders over the August Bank holiday. Hotel staff were welcoming and the quality of the food was good. We had a river view room (no.22) which was clean and pleasant. However, it seemed strange that in a room designed for two people there was only one arm chair. This meant that my husband and I could not sit together to have a cup of tea or to read at the same time. One would have the chair and the other would have to sit on the bed.

Fantastic evening meal at Henry’s Pub. Great table looking out over the estuary Bread to start, I had the pie of the day which was chicken, ham and leek, absolutely fab, the pastry was perfect! My husband had the chicken schnitzel which was massive and unfortunately a little dry but still very tasty. Best of all they do skinny fries! Finished with the salted caramel ice cream affogato and a stroll down to the harbour… perfect. Good value for money and would recommend.

⸻||We had the most wonderful stay at Balthazar Cottage in Beaulieu. The setting is beautiful and full of history, the bedrooms luxurious, and the bathroom just right for our needs. The kitchen was a dream — perfectly equipped with a well-stocked pantry — and the thoughtful touch of breakfast goodies in the fridge from Chris, the GM, made us feel so welcome. Every detail has been carefully considered, and it truly felt like a home away from home. We can’t recommend this cottage highly enough.

My visitors and I enjoyed the most delicious meal at the Master Builders House Hotel recently. The friendly staff were efficient and in particular, the waitresses and waiter were enthusiastic and clearly happy to serve and to be working in such a wonderful environment. The restaurant area was comfortable and well spaced with a lovely atmosphere. Whilst the tables all appeared to be occupied it didn't feel noisy or cramped in anyway, the menu choice was varied with a good choice of specials in addition, all of which sounded very appetising. I would have been extremely happy with several, if not all of them! We all chose different meals but each of us agreed that they were amongst the best we've had. I can't fault my experience here and would strongly recommend a visit to this beautiful and historic venue and in such a wonderful part of the world.

I stopped for a drink at The Master Builders House after a walk along from Beaulieu. It was a perfect spot to sit outside and soak up the sunshine. The outdoor bar was offering a great selection of drinks and snacks – as well as ice cream. We didn't eat on this occasion, but the food looked delicious, and I'll definitely be back to try it.
