Knightsbridge is always buzzing and The Mayfair Chippy was no different. We went on a Tuesday early evening and it was packed, perhaps because of the school holidays.
From the moment we walked in, I had a gut instinct the food would be really good, even before ordering. I went with my wife and two children. Being quite clued up about food, I asked whether the batter was beer batter. It was, but they also offered a non-alcoholic option, which we chose.
We ordered the fried cod with chips, mushy peas, tartare sauce and chip shop curry sauce, as well as the fried haddock with the same sides. The portions looked generous, so we decided to share.
What can I say? It was hands down the best fish and chips I have ever had. The tartare sauce was on another level, and the mushy peas and curry sauce were equally impressive.
We finished the meal by sharing the sticky date pudding. It was delicious, though very rich.
All in all, a fantastic experience and highly recommended.
