10 Must-Try Old Fashioneds in Metro-Detroit | Eater

"The Meeting House is a Rochester neighborhood staple. This seasonal, imaginative, American restaurant and bar lives by the mantra, “When life hands you lemons, garnish your cocktails.” The hand-selected barrels of Elijah Craig Single Barrel tucked behind the bar are delicious to drink neat, in a classic Old Fashioned, or as an upgrade to the Don Draper (which takes the classic Old Fashioned and adds bacon). Sip one for brunch and pair it with chicken and waffles or braised short rib enchiladas." - Vox Creative

The steak was incredible. The drinks were top notch. The serving was very efficient, excellent service.

Our family chose to celebrate our Thanksgiving at The Meeting House on Saturday, November 30th. Most of our visit was a positive experience but our daughters-in-law both ordered the steak and frites and took most of it home because it was so salty, it was inedible. (Our daughter-in-law who lives in Rochester said it's not typically over seasoned, she orders it every time she and my son dine there.) They didn't want to complain or send it back because they didn't want to put a damper on the evening but they both admitted they didn't enjoy their meal. Our plate of calamari was very chewy and contained more tentacles than rings, which was disappointing. I was also disappointed in the portion size of the lightly smoked chicken meal but it was very good. Both toilets in the women's restroom were out of order and we were told there wasn't another restroom we could use. That was a pretty big inconvenience. The positives: Our server was friendly and attentive. The remaining dishes we ordered were very tasty and the desserts and drinks were delicious as well. As a non-drinker, I was happy to see a mocktail section on the drink menu and the blackberry mule was really nice. All in all, it was slightly disappointing for the $400 we spent but we still had a lovely time together and the service was great.

A nice, if a bit expensive, place to eat and drink in downtown Rochester. We came on a Friday in February and it was easy to get a table. The other places we tried first were packed so this was nice to get seated right away. The inside is nice and spacious with good seats. Some bench and some tables. The staff were really friendly and our waitress was awesome. We ordered apps, a few entrees and lots of drinks. Everything we had was really good. The soup was amazing. They have a really great drink menu, a great bourbon / whiskey menu, and a really good wine menu. Overall everything was fantastic, my only minor gripe was how insanely expensive it was. Recommended!

Unfortunately the food wasn't what we were expecting; from three different dishes only one was tasty and good, and It was the salad. The cauliflowers we had were super smooshy (mit how we like them) and the pretzel 🥨 was tasteless, I'm sorry but that's the whole truth 🤐 Service was good, the crew was very attentive and patient. The place atmosphere is great, you can have a nice time, unfortunately as stated above the food wasn't up to what we expected.

Here are the pros and cons. Pro, nice restaurant with a beautiful rooftop with nice view of downtown Rochester. London was our waitress and she was great. She was friendly and upbeat and took good care of us. Con. My cheeseburger had too much mustard on it. When we arrived we saw a open table, which we thought was available which it wasn't. It was reserved. After we left there were only two people at that particular table. If tables are reserved, I would put a sign on the table noting that. This is a very minor issue. Prices are reasonable. I would come back soon. Parking is a issue, so arrive early to get a spot near the restaurant. There is a parking deck near by. Thanks to London for taking care of us making our visit great. Good food.

Another pleasant visit to The Meeting House! Always recommend their eggs Benedict. Today we also tried the grilled cheese and cream of tomato. Highly recommend the soup. The sandwich is a lovely change from the typical grilled cheese. My only gripe is that it seemed like there didn’t seem to be enough filling in it and it felt like glorified toast. However I’m giving the benefit of the doubt this time. They had to remake it for me because I’m allergic to whole grain bread which the first sandwich was made with. I also recommend the With a twist as a pleasant difference from the usual mimosa. Also the gin and lavender tea was very good, but not for everyone as it’s on the stronger side with all the flavors.

We attended a Bridal Shower in the upstairs event space. The staff was attentive, friendly and the food was delicious! 😋 There is a small elevator and 2 restrooms, bar area and 8-8 person round tables and 4 serving tables. Tall ceilings and the windows provide a lot of natural light. The party had it's privacy with all the benefits of the restaurant. 👍 👍

Google
Cool vibe with an upbeat atmosphere. The mixologists did a wonderful job with our drinks. On the way to the bathrooms, I noticed the dining area in the back was a bit more intimate and less noisy. Our table next to the windows up front offered a good view of the busy street outside and bar area for some good people watching. Our dinner was excellent! I would highly recommend the Mushrooms served with goats cheese. The French Onion Soup with Dumplings were not only unique but very tasty. Local friends decided they would most certainly be back but skip dessert next time. I thought the pistachio ice cream was nicely balanced between savory and sweet.

Yelp
Great restaurant in heart of downtown Rochester. They take reservations which is helpful during the weekends when they can be busy. Can accommodate large parties but have inviting ambiance inside for a smaller night out too. For dinner had the Overnight braised short ribs which had amazing flavor.

Yelp
Visited for dinner on a Saturday night - we did not have a reservation and it was busy! About a 45 minute wait for a table but we were luckily able to grab seats up at the bar. Unfortunately, service was not very good at the bar - incredibly slow. For drinks, I tried their espresso martini, which was way too watered down. The food, however, made up for everything else. They had a really good menu with interesting options, so we were pretty torn what to get but I ended up ordering a cup of their chicken curry soup and the pork chop. The pork chop itself was incredible, and the beets were a unique spin. My friend got the short rib and said it was amazing. We both really enjoyed the soup as well. Ambiance was lively, but we were disappointed it wasn't really decorated for the holidays - just really plain inside. Since the location is right on main street, parking is limited. All this said, I would return just for the food.

Yelp
One of the best cocktails bars downtown. Trevor is a great mixologist and is very friendly. They offer happy hour on both drinks and apps. Metered or garage parking nearby. Or recommend going early for dinner or reservations. The bar seating is maybe eight seats at best. Atmosphere is energetic and lively. Not too loud. Food is good, but pricey. Not much for vegans. Everything has meat, fish, or cheese in it. I go to enjoy a quality cocktail, but omnivores will like the menu more.

Yelp
Came here with a party of 6 on a Tuesday night. We attempted to make a reservation the night before but it showed everything was booked out. So we tried calling the next day and was able to secure a reservation. When we walked in, the hostess was friendly and immediately walked us to our table. The restaurant was not busy at all with only a few tables including ours so I'm not really sure why we weren't able to make the reservation online. Their menu looked interesting so we decided to order multiple dishes for everyone to share and here are the dishes we ordered and my thoughts: TMH CHICKEN WINGS White Truffe Oil, Toasted Garlic, Parmesan: The wings were just ok. The meat itself was moist but I didn't taste any truffle oil or garlic. The skin wasn't crispy and it basically tasted like the Parmesan wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. SPICE-DUSTED CALAMARI Housemade Buttermilk-herb Ranch: The calamari pieces were small. The spice was quite flavorful but I found it really oily. TEMPURA CAULIFLOWER Thai Chili Glaze, Pineapple, Cashew: This is the worst dish for the night. The batter was thick and the cauliflower was way overcooked. It didn't taste like Thai chili sauce at all as it was overly sweet. The pineapple pieces looked like those frozen ones that's been thawed (I didn't eat it cuz it looked sour) and the cashews just fell over everywhere. FRIED BRUSSELS SPROUTS Red wine vinaigrette: A solid dish that was nicely fried. The citrus from the red wine vinaigrette balanced well and it did not feel too heavy or oily. MAPLE BASTED SPAGHETTI SQUASH Candied walnuts The squash as very mushy and sweet. I wish there's more walnut pieces to give the dish more texture. SAUTÉED BEEF TENDERLOIN TIPS "French Onion" style. Pappardelle. Jarlsberg. Crispy Bread: This was one of my favorite dish for the night. The pappardelle was al dente, the sauce was flavorful and hearty, the beef tips were nicely charred and it's as tender as it can get given of the cut. I also love the crispy bread which added another level of texture. RAINBOW TROUT Basmati Rice, Wilted Spinach. Toasted Hazelnut, Brown Butter Balsamic Vinaigrette: The fish was flaky but a little overcooked and I wish they would put the fish with the skin on top while drizzling the sauce on the side so the skin would stay crispy. The sauce however, was the highlight. It was rich and nutty and paired well with the spinach as it balances out the bitterness from the greens. The hazelnut added some crunch and also brought out a unique note from the brown sugar. The rice was my favorite as it soaked up all the sauce. Overall, the food here is decent and it's a good option for date nights or even family gatherings as they can accommodate larger parties.

Yelp
I've waited a long time to find a restaurant that cares about absolutely every element of your experience. Even the best restaurants might be brilliant at some things, but pedestrian at other things. Not The Meeting House. My wife got an amazing mixed drink made with spiced pear...smooth but potent. The beer selections were eclectic. I usually remember the odd selections I make when I get craft beer, but...the beer was strong. I would've been happy with complementary bread with my meal, since it's such a rarity these days. The Meeting House give you a wonderfully flavorful muffin and rich butter. The waiter recommended the asparagus soup. This is what asparagus wishes it tasted like. It's the absolutely perfect combination of seasonings that draws out all of the best qualities of the asparagus. My wife got the smoked chicken, which the waiter said has been on the menu since the beginning. It's a favorite for a reason. She usually hates squash, but she loved the spaghetti squash bed underneath the chicken. With a multitude of great offerings, how could I go wrong? I decided on meatloaf, but not just any meatloaf. This is lamb meatloaf, seasoned the way you know meatloaf is supposed to be seasoned, but just...better. The celery root puree, hollandaise, and fried Brussels sprouts meant every nibble exploded with flavor. Even the hand towels in the bathroom were the highest quality paper, and seemed to be like the finest linens. Service was flawless, and the food showed up quickly. I normally have some idea of the cost of what I'm ordering, but this was a rare time when the food was so good that I didn't care. Entrées were around $30, and this is one of many restaurants listed as $$ that are actually $$$ restaurants. But, this is one that's definitely worth your $$$.

Yelp
Although a reservation was required (for this small town eatery) we ate at the bar and tried a few small plates , they were all great , drinks rightly priced

Yelp
Absolutely loved! A great spot for brunch with some friends- and seated right downtown in Rochestor. Delicious drink options, and the food was SO good. Highly suggest the cheese dip and chips, and the grilled cheese. Both were phenomenal! We absolutely love our server too- just an all around wonderful dining experience!

Yelp
The interior is modern and tastefully done. We went for lunch on a Saturday and had great brunch items. The corned beef hash had a generous amount of meat, and the potato skillet was tasty without being spicy.
google avatar

Yelp
The menu looked so good... maybe I just picked the wrong items... I will say I enjoyed the pretzel I had but the main dish i had the lightly smoked chicken breast was probably the worst made chicken breast I've had.... The spaghetti squash sounded good but wasn't very. I will say the drink I had was REALLY good. The bartender was on point. If you're in Rochester sure check it out but I wouldn't go out of my way.

Yelp
Went there with another couple. Three of the four ordered the beef tips .... and not one of the three ate them.....they were awful!!! Could not even chew the meat which was supposed to be tenderloin. I ordered the roasted veg salad with shrimp, I think there was maybe two pieces of roasted vegetables. Chicken wings were good. With the cost of going out these days it was VERY disappointing. We won't be back . Service was good but the beef top meals should have been taken off the bill.

Yelp
I enjoyed a decent eggs Benedict and good service . It was fun getting to see the Detroit Lions St. Brown #14 upside down in the window across the street at Home Bakery which was a nice stop to pick up bumpy cake for dessert.

Yelp
The Meeting House has a nice calm ambiance. However, one of the walls is an angled mirror, a little distracting for dinner. The service and staff were great. We had very little wait times. We arrived at 6:10 and were able to get a table immediately. Our calamari appetizer was out about 5 min after we ordered it and our main course dishes were out before we finished our appetizer, it was a little too fast. Our cocktails were good, a pear drink and an old fashion. We followed it with the calamari appetizer and for our main courses we had the beef tip pasta and the trout dinner with a side of the Brussel sprouts. The calamari was crispy and served with a ranch style dip. The beef tip pasta was good but not great, could have used more flavor.

Yelp
10 years after my first review, I am happy to provide an updated and more positive review. Recently, we have dined here a couple of times and our experiences have been much better. I am a fan of their brunch menu as it has a little bit of everything and they always have weekend specials. They are also less crowded then some of the other brunch places. Our service has been decent as well. The only awkward thing is to get to the restrooms you have to walk through the back room which is used for larger parties or private parties and it always feels like you are intruding and don't belong.

Raymond M.

Yelp
Good and drinks are good. The service was good and the place has a good vibe. I would go back for drinks

Yelp
Luis made us a his and her Old Fashion and Margarita using Agave in order to replace the simple syrup. We order the HH Short Rib (minus the tortilla) and had it added to the HH Truffle Fries for a gluten free meal with a side of Brussel Sprouts He provided us a great atmosphere for a quick Happy Hour Date that we squeezed into our day!

Yelp
We have walked by the Meeting house hundreds of times and never found our way in. I am so glad we did. We came in last week and waited for our table by having a cocktail at the bar. Our bartender was friendly and poured delicious drinks. Our table was quickly ready for us and we made our way over to a perfect cozy spot right in the corner front window. It was perfect! Our waitress was a joy and the food was delicious . We will definitely be back.

Yelp
During our annual trip to Kringle Mart I always walk up and down the street and see the plethora of cool places to eat and want to try them all, so it has become a goal to eat at the different restaurants in downtown Rochester and this was our first place we've made it to. It is such an adorable space, I love the decor. It is a cozy place to dine and people watch. The service was excellent, the people working here seem to go way out of their way to make all feel welcome and taken care of. It also seems like a popular choice, there was a very steady stream of customers. The first thing our server offered was some bread to snack on. This was amazing, any place that gives you snacking bread is the best place in my book. I love snacks. The bread came in an adorable bag and it was hot and fluffy with a bit of savory topping on the top. We ordered some drinks. We got a chocolate pastry dark beer from Untitled Art. I had never heard of that brewery but it was delicious. So sweet and delicious, exactly like a dessert. We tried a couple cocktails. They were very interesting. Very herbaceous, not quite my favorite, but I want to expand my palate. It was not our servers fault, she let me know if I was not satisfied with anything they would remake me anything I was not satisfied with, but I kept them because I like trying different specialties on a menu. I would come back for cocktails again and try some other choices next time. The food was great. My husband got the Brussel sprouts and a short rib enchilada. The got their side salad. It was amazing, and such a nice portion. I really appreciate that they offer their salads as an entree or on the side, very nice for customers who want it as a meal or a side. The poppyseed dressing was refreshing and delicious. I also wanted a steak frites. I have not had steak in ages and it was a good choice to come here. The steak was a huge portion and very well cooked. The fries were perfectly crispy and slices so thin and the spinach was great. With the zip sauce it was the perfect bite to get a little steak, fry, and spinach dipped into it. I was able to take home half the meal and share with the kids who also liked it. The meat on the steak was so tender and great the next day. The zip sauce was perfect and did not solidify the next day either. I would highly recommend this dish. They also had good sounding desserts and they make their own ice cream, so maybe next time we will try it. I would love to return here soon.

Yelp
We rented the top floor for our wedding rehearsal dinner and WOW. It was great! The food was fantastic, the service was wonderful, the bathrooms were very clean, and the view is spectacular. For an evening it was great, the only downside was for all the guests to find parking. But I would love to have some kind of lunch event here in the future. We were able to take food home and we all loved it. 10/10 would recommend!! Booking the space was also very easy and pleasant.

Yelp
This is the cutest little place ever! I can't believe it's been here 9 years and this is my first experience. I promise you, it definitely won't be my last! Arrived around 6:30 on a Friday night and it was steady. Our goal was the bar and with about only 10 seats available, we did have to wait until patrons cashed out before we we got our spot. We didn't mind, though. This place has enough personality to keep you occupied until seated. Joe was our bartender and he was great. My girlfriend ordered a Prosecco and I went with the Staycation. It instantly teleported me to when we were in Puerto Rico the winter before. So absolutely fresh! We wanted appetizers and were both gunning for carrots and French fries. The carrots were out of this world! A perfect blend of sweet and smoky. How do they do it?! The best we've ever had and a stand alone reason to come back. The fries were excellent, as well. You can tell they are hand cut. They brought me a sweet Thai chili dipper and that took them to the next level. Great staff and love the dimly lit atmosphere. Such a gem sitting right there on the corner of Third & Main! Please open for lunch. Please!

Yelp
My Dad, who lives in Rochester, is almost 89. For a few years now, he's been reluctant to try new places for Sunday brunch, preferring the familiarity of places he knows. Occasionally he'll humor me and let me take him somewhere he hasn't been, especially if I've already gone there and had a positive experience. Of course, that doesn't mean he'll feel the same afterward, but he does about The Meeting House. Even though we had to wait for a table, we didn't wait long, and service was kind and attentive as soon as we were seated. The menu is creative and offers a range of dietary options. Coffee and fruit are fresh and plentiful. I loved the Kale Salad; the pistachios are an excellent accompaniment to the kale! My sandwich was delicious, too. The only flaw was that the hostess at the door was a bit impatient and curt. I understand that Sunday brunch is likely one of the most hectic shifts, but that person at the door is the first impression of the establishment. We had a nice visit and enjoyed our meals, even so, and I hope to bring Dad back some time soon :)

Yelp
Went to dinner with my lovely wife. Wanted to go to Hemingways but they were closed for a private party. So we decided to finally try The Meeting House. We had monitored their menu and walked in once or twice to see a long wait ahead. On a Thursday night their front room was busy but the back rooms, expectedly, empty. We were seated directly and provided good service throughout. The menu didn't have much appeal to me and the prices were way too high for what would come. The only thing that appealed was the steak but I didn't want to pay $42 for a 12 Oz strip and fries. Not when Rochester Chop House is across the street or Lucky's PrimeTime is 1.5 miles away. I chose the waitress recommended braised short rib instead. We were shocked when the meals came out too quickly. It was a portend of things to come. It clearly wasn't purpose-made for us. It came with rice, pickled veggies and an odd tomato sauce that was way too close to ketchup. It reminded me of a meatloaf in that respect. A $31 meatloaf. It was even less appealing, as it was lukewarm, and lacked flavor. I reached for the salt, which, in itself, was an odd choice in a tiny jar with a spoon. Not an easy means to deliver an appropriate amount of added flavor without over doing it. Even so I went back for more later. The dish just wasn't very good. My wife had a roasted veggie salad with extra blackened shrimp and an overly expensive Time of Your Life cocktail. (When I think Time of Your Life I think the movie Risky Business...is that by intent? I don't know). The drink tasted and looked like a Dirty Shirley Temple. She liked her meal even though she doesn't usually care for chevre cheese. We skipped dessert. We thought we might find some elsewhere but it was not to be. 2.5 stars rounds to an overly generous 3. We won't be back.

Anisa A.

Yelp
Food was great. Portions were kind of small though. I had to add chicken to my risotto for $7 for it to be a decent meal.

Yelp
First review but have been here multiple times over the years. One of my favorite things is their upstairs outside patio. So pleasant to sit there with beautiful flower pots, umbrellas for shade and pretty overhead strung lights at night. Inside is nice too but more noisy. Yesterday we enjoyed a late brunch outside. Ordered wine and a mimosa - both very good. Ordered short rib enchiladas which was good, not necessarily something I would order again. Also the gulf shrimp Pappardelle was ordered and got rave reviews - plentiful shrimp. Service was exceptional with attentive refills on water, clearing plates etc. without GOSH having to ask which I found has become more lacking at other establishments. Nicely done, would recommend.

Chris C.

Yelp
The attention to detail across the board makes this the best restaurant in Rochester. It's genuine, both in its service and food and does it all without being the least bit pretentious. It really does give the vibe of the old Beverly Hills Grill, from which it finds its roots. That's high achievement.

In Moderation ..

Yelp
Delightful dinner at the bar:) warm and friendly staff and excellent service. I enjoyed a warm cup of soup with truffle fries loved the atmosphere in the town's holiday Christmas cheer!
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
Finally had dinner here. Braised short rib was good - served with polenta and big juice mushrooms. Chicken parm was just ok. It needed a side to make it more a meal.
google avatar

Joe L.

Yelp
Spectacular location, ambiance, music, and food is usually very good. The staff and servers could sometimes maybe use a B-12 shot to help with energy and enthusiasm. If I could change one thing it would be the salt and pepper on the tables. Instead of shakers, diners use a small spoon. That's great if I'm working on icy roads...not the best to keep from dumping too much salt on my meal. (On this occasion, the salt at my table was missing its spoon.)

Yelp
Exceptional service and delicious food and drinks. The craft cocktail menu is very unique and they have a nice variety of wines. Most recently I came here on a Thursday evening and there was only a 20 minute wait for table for 2. We sat at the bar and ordered a drink while waiting for our table to be called. I took the bartender's recommendation of his favorite cocktail called, Best Feeling and loved it! The ambience and trendy and cozy with a mix of high table top seating, booths, and chairs. Most recently in December, it had a festive atmosphere with cute holiday decorations and wreaths. I highly recommend the Tempera Cauliflower as an appetizer. It has a Asian chili glaze and garnished with cashews and pineapple tidbits. It was probably the best vegan fried cauliflower I ever had! I also recommend the Cedar Roasted Salmon which was cooked perfectly and the TMH house salad. The poppyseed salad dressing was very sweet and complemented the crisp salad well. There are many vegan and gluten free choices on the menu to satisfy a variety of diets. Nothing but good things to say about the Meeting house. Weather you are just looking to have a drink at the bar or dinning for dinner, you will have an enjoyable experience. Check it out!

Yelp
my amazing daughters took me here for my bday. never been. heard of it though. seating is impeccable, flooring is fair, and windows are divine. their paper simple menu was very unique, but i felt needed more options for the veg/oso/pes. will i go here again for dinner on purpose, no. will i go here again for atmosphere and a fun drink? yes. our server was quite attentive but see through. points for memorizing our order.

Yelp
Was very disappointed in my meal at The Meeting House. I ordered the Tenderloin tips and tender was not something these beef tips were. They were very tough. I told the waitress and she said she would tell the chef and left it at that. Poor service on top of bad food. I couldn't cut them with the knife provided. Definitely do not recommend this place.

Yelp
Delicious breakfast on the rooftop patio. Challah French toast with fresh berries & the Classic Breakfast (home made English muffin, eggs, meat, home style Potatoes). Both were delicious. Definitely sit in the rooftop!

Yelp
Excellent brunch. Had the salmon Benedict which was excellent. Service was excellent and all around we really enjoyed everything.

Yelp
This place is amazing! I was in here with family for the holidays. The food is fabulous. The cocktails are original and good!

Yelp
I attended a wedding shower upstairs here. The food was amazing the service was perfect! The downstairs was very busy. I would absolutely use this place again for a small gathering the room holds about 65 comfortably. The brick walls and large windows added to the ambiance- wholistic be great for a small wedding too.

Yelp
I came here based on reviews I had read online. It was a Sunday at about 12:30 in the afternoon and the place was pretty packed but we were able to get seated right away. They gave us a clipboard with several sheets of menus and drink options. There was one page of breakfast options and a separate sheet of lunch/dinner options. As soon as we were seated the waiter asked if we wanted any drinks and then he left us to review the menu. I ordered the breakfast burrito and it was a large burrito with black beans, guacamole, scrambled eggs, salsa and cheese and it was delicious. My friend got the standard breakfast and it came with 2 eggs, sausage or bacon, potatoes and toast or English muffin. He got cheesy grits instead of the potatoes and he got 2 sausage links and the English muffin. He really loved the grits and said the sausage was really good quality. My waiter didn't bring lemons for my water like I asked and the place was very noisy. That would be my only two complaints. Otherwise it would have been a five star review!

Yelp
We enjoyed the two menu items we ordered and the beverage. Everything was very tasty. It was a plus that they have Franks Redhot sauce instead of just Tobacco Sauce. I was greeted as soon as I sat down by our server Leah. She filled our waters and left after I told her my date was in the restroom. She returned shortly after he took his seat. We were given the time we needed to review the five page menu. The restaurant was pretty full with couples, families and groups. The food was coming out of the kitchen at a steady pace. Mimosas looked to be the beverage of choice for most of the people I saw with beverages. We've only had Liquor 43 in little beers so we ordered the Premium Subscription because it was used in it. We definitely will be back with the rest of our family.

Yelp
Had a great dinner here recently with a bunch of friends. The service and food were both great. Our group shared a bunch of different orders including the tempura cauliflower, barley risotto, wings, soft pretzel, and calamari. The tempura cauliflower was by the far the best. Super crisp outside, with a super flavorful sauce. Everything else was really good too, but the cauliflower is a must order here.

Yelp
The waitress was patient and accommodating to my particular eating habits. She suggested a salad: baby greens, Gorgonzola, tomatoes, cucumber, onion, turkey breast and pine nuts for me. They will make us some fries with some truffle oil and Parmesan and my husband got the avocado scramble for his brunch. This place is a cool meeting place for sure. I was happy we were able to get in right away on Sunday but then again it's after 2:30pm. The fries were super soggy, not the crunch I was hoping for at all and were way over fried for my tastes. They were too dark and over cooked, the whole lot of it too. The amount of fries were not plentiful, rather scant and there were a ton of small tiny useless fries not even worth going after at all. My husband found his avocado scramble was good, but on the small side, would have been disappointing if we didn't have fries and the English muffin. My salad wasn't bad, hit the spot, but the butt of the lettuce was in my salad and there were several wilted old leaves in my bowl and not a speck or sign of the Gorgonzola and promised during my order, bummer. The salad was average, not special at all. The food here was overall underwhelming to say the least. The turkey was deli meat, that was also not so special too.

Yelp
Had a fantastic dinner here. There's a spectrum of options for veggies which are surprising and also absolutely delicious! Great place for a date- loud ambiance which was perfect for bringing a 1 and a half year old because if she cried you couldn't hear which was amazing ! Especially because other guests don't really notice The food was yummy and service was great, would absolutely come again ! The cauliflower was delicious and the salmon was yummy just portion of veggies that come with the salmon are s bit sparse. Otherwise everything was great

Yelp
Update: i went for dinner last night and food is still very meh. The only thing that really stood out was the tempura cauliflower. That was divine. I got the shrimp gratin. I would never call this dish a gratin, it was a watery creamy liquid that had like way too much shrimp, and maybe 4 small pieces of cauliflower, squash, and bacon. The fries were again extremely salty and bland. The desserts were ok, the cookie sundae was good but the peanut butter creme thing was just dry and boring. Now that I've experienced both brunch and dinner, i dont think I'll be back unless its for drinks.

Yelp
First if all i want to thank "The meeting house" for letting my service animal in, I've been to places where even if you have a service animal they don't let them inside (and I respect that) but today it was the exception and I'm really happy for that. That being said food and coffee was amazing, we ordered "The Classic breakfast" (eggs, bacon, English muffin and potatoes) amazing!! Not words describe the taste; coffee was good too. The staff and place are cozy and spacious. Definitely recommend. Thank you.

Yelp
Just stopped in for a drink and an app while out riding thru Rochester. Nice place! Love the decor. We sat at the bar, and I had a tasty local brew, my friend had a whiskey, and we shared a delicious plate of calamari. The bartender was super friendly and possesed an extensive knowledge about whiskey, which he was happy to share with us. Very cool guy, don't remember his name - we kept him there late but he was totally nice about it. I'll have to return for dinner sometime, as my initial impression of this place is very good.

Yelp
Good service. Clean restaurant and bathroom. Delicious cocktails! I've had a spicy Bloody Mary and a mimosa here about a year ago. Today it was a Kir Royale and a Practical Magic tequila cocktail. Chicken wings are yummy, pretzel and dipping sauces are very tasty and Fried Cauliflower was worth 2 orders. Perfect qty for 3 brunching. Consistent and worth coming back! Recommend!

Yelp
LOVE the meeting house. Highly recommend the Cauliflower appetizer & Beef short rib enchiladas. I love going for brunch for a cheaper (still Devine) meal! Definitely check this place out if you haven't

Yelp
Great food! Amazing server! Loved the atmosphere. Docking a star because there was no changing tables in their bathrooms- which results in my changing a diaper at our table (because I'm not putting my newborn on the bathroom ground.) support moms & dads & get changing tables, please.

Yelp
Love this place, but seriously. Seriously? They charged for ice! Ice! And the bartender didn't even bat an eye when I complained and asked about it. Wow.

Yelp
This spot is very trendy! No matter where you sit, there's never a bad seat - inside, outside, or bar top. FYI If you want to eat outside, you do have to go up stairs. Outside is nicely shaded with umbrellas. Food options were good! I think they could benefit from having more vegetarian/pescatarian options, but everything we tried was wonderful! All portions were single serving, even the pasta. Not typically enough to share or take home. We also tried the 2 "mock tails" - very sweet, but refreshing nonetheless. 2 mocktail drinks, 2 appetizers, and 2 entrees cost $100. They already include a 20% gratuity on the bill regardless of how many people are in your party. I think it is well deserved. They never let your drink get empty, refresh your napkin and silverware, and have quick service.

Yelp
We went on Sunday for brunch. We had a reservation, so it was perfect, when we walked in we were seated immediately. Our waitress was very friendly and took our drink orders right away. We ordered our meals using the digital menu, our orders came in a timely manner. We had a nice leisurely brunch for about 2 hours. It was fabulous because we didn't feel rushed and we didn't feel like it was taking too long to be served. It was a really nice balance. The food was very good as well. I'll definitely be back on another weekend for brunch.
