Where to Find Fried Chicken and Jojos in Portland | Eater Portland

"While the Megabite is mostly a pizza parlor, it also churns out some truly delectable wings and jojos. The regular jojos are a respectable choice, but there’s also the option of loaded jojos, which come topped with shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped bacon, and fresh chives. Jojos here are available by the pound, or the three-pound. And while pizza may not be the first pairing that comes to mind with chicken and jojos, if headed to the Megabite, it’s worth grabbing a pie as well." - Rebecca Roland

Okay so this place reminds me of a forgotten pizza place. The seats are torn and springs are missing, service is slow when it comes to cleaning tables, and some of the games are run down. But pizza was great, it was not super busy which allowed my kids and husband to run around and play games. I think if this place had more people visit more often it would be an amazing place. I would say visit and see what you think. Taco pizza and pepperoni were great!

A pizza place my whole family enjoys!!! This place has a fun, old school atmosphere. The employees were friendly, patient, and helpful when they knew it was our first time in. I do like it when the parking lot is full because you know a place is good when it is! It's fun they have several free video games 🎮 for kiddos to play while waiting in addition to lots of arcade games, Foosball, and sports on the TV! The booths we sat in were quite springy. Not uncomfortable though and no tears 👍 But the pizza - WOW!!! I hate to say it, but I was not prepared to be THAT IMPRESSED! But I have to admit, that was THE BEST TACO PIZZA I've had in Clark County. The flavors were just all so on point. They loaded the pizza with toppings, but didn't overdo it. The crust is kind of a thin soft cracker crust with minimal actual crust and not burnt. It held up for the toppings well and was still delicious a few days later! The BBQ Chicken Pizza was also super tasty! We liked their ranch and jo-jo's, too! My guys liked their standard simple pizza. My kid gobbled his up. Thanks for providing delicious food, honoring military, and having a fun environment! We will be back for sure. Love, your newest fans!

I’ve never set foot in the Megabite/ Orchard’s location- and I’ve lived here for 30 years now. I’ve always thought Megabite was good, but not great. I was wrong. Megabite (formerly Smokey’s) has always been a staple around here.. just like Steakburger, Joe Brown’s, Who Song’s, Black Angus, etc.. for all of the Couve-ites growing up here. As well as Uncle Milt’s and their pink panther jumping around up on stage entertaining the kiddos. Kind of creepy in my opinion.. but whatever. lol. Growing up in Longview we had Pietro’s, Round Table, Pizza Hut.. Now days to get good Pietro’s (especially their taco) we drive to Hood River or we go to Papa Pete’s for a close second. And finding a decent Pizza Hut with that hot melty cheese, 500 degree cast iron pan pizza pan, those sit down greesy Pac Man & Donkey Kong machines- good luck. We went to the east side Pizza Hut about a month ago to check out their carry out location.. and we couldn’t get out of there fast enough. But, I digress. At least you guys in Vancouver still have your old Smokey’s Pizza, it’s just called Megabite now days! And I’m now officially a believer in Megabite pizza, particularly their Orchard’s location. It’s so cool! It’s like walking into a smaller version of Funland in Seaside! Those guys have spent a ton of time, energy and money collecting on all sorts of Star Wars and other movie collectibles. They have all kinds of arcades to play, with many of them being new & retro games like Pac Man & Donkey Kong, foosball & pinball machines & free internet gaming stations. They even have that crazy loud annoying clucking chicken machine spitting out the colorful eggs that I remember. I also hear rave reviews for their jojo’s, fish & chips and quite a few other things on their menu. This place also got extra points with me saying they could make half taco & half whatever else.. on ANY size crust! Whaaat. There are very few pizza joints left that will make us a two sauce pizza on a small crust. So I ordered half taco & half megasupreme (minus mushrooms, add pineapple.) I’m always on the hunt for great taco pizza, but I don’t want to commit to a whole one, especially since my guy loves his pepperoni & pineapple. For taco pizza, we’ve been going to Leonardo’s, Barrel Mountain, Papa Pete’s in Ridgefield or Pietro’s in Hood River. But this taco was great! The only thing I would add were some crushed up cheese Doritos. Next time I’m here, I’ll just bring our own. Also, I would definitely order half taco again and probably the old standby- The Pete’s, which is beef, onions & pepperoncinis & add pepperoni and take off the mushrooms again. Drizzle some honey over and that would make a great pizza there! They also have really good lemonade next to the soda machine. I ended up making a spritzer basically- lemonade, sprite, and some of this wonderful cherry juice they had available in their soda machine. The employees were all super friendly & nice. The place was really clean and well taken care of. You can tell they have worked so hard on collecting all of the gaming stuff, Star Wars things etc. It was really cool to look at it all! The mngr played the song “Closing Time.” the minute they closed, which was 10pm that night. Great idea. And it definitely worked to get the gamers to wake up and get out the door within minutes of closing. Lol. Looking forward to going back to this Orchard’s joint soon!

The Taco pizza is incredible! Among the best I've ever tasted, featuring a fantastic crust and top-notch ingredients. In addition they’ll do a half & half pizza. They also serve delicious fish and chips! I highly recommend checking this place out. Photo credit F&C

Google
This is a mid pizza. Cool little arcade section for the kids and nice employees. The sauce isn't what it used to be and I felt like that's what really set them apart. The toppings are the same generic mass bought pizza toppings most other small franchise places buy. Good prices. No AC. Very muggy in there on a hot day.

Google
Disappointed. This is the most expensive cardboard pizza I’ve eaten. Toppings are at least fresh, but crust is tasteless cardboard and minimal cheese. The sauce doesn’t even soak tonight the crust, not even a little bit. I just ate the topping off the crust because I was hungry.

Google
Good pizza and JoJos. Actual arcade games. Reminded me of a pizza place from the 90s. None of those win tickets and teach kids how to gamble games.

Google
This use to be our go to pizza place. However recently they seem to have been sabotaging my orders. First they sprinkled so much red chili pepper flakes under the topping my grand child had to go to the hospital cause she couldn't breath. When I went to confront them as to what I did to warrant such malicious behavior then smiled and said they did nothing diffrent. Clearly they had. We tried same pizza 2 weeks later. No pepper flakes however the mushrooms and peppers were raw tossed on as an after thought. When I took the pizza back they refused to refund or even make a proper pie. I will forever speak badly about Megabite pizza in all public places and ask all I know to boycott there establishments!

Yelp
Had family pizza night here on a Saturday night around 5pm. Called ahead to make reservations. Since we had kids in our group, they reserved the table right by the arcade games, which worked out perfectly! They have a nice variety of games for all ages. They also have a change machine which came in handy. Staff was friendly and accommodating. Pizzas and jojo's came out quickly. The food was good and hot. Our only gripe was that they don't have proper A/C. They do have ceiling fans, but it was quite warm inside. Overall, I would recommend, maybe just not on a hot day.

Yelp
Great food great service. Free games inside if u decide to eat there with the kids. I don't know what else to write about a pizza place. It sells pizza

Yelp
This was our first and last time spending our hard earned money at this place. Pizza was just okay very overpriced okay $20 dollars for a small cheese pizza . Really disappointed there was only one clean table and only seen one get cleaned the whole time I was here. There was only 2 clean plates available that you are supposed to get for yourself over by the drink machine. Also I have never had to pay for a box for the leftovers with already an $80 bill they charge 81 cents for a box.

Yelp
We live out in battle ground but love this pizza so we make the drive in. Normally really good but the last couple of times it has been really undercooked. We actually took it back in and it felt hot, looked like the cheese was close t melting. When we got home I realized the reheated with the paper on the bottom and it was just warmed up. So after peeling paper off I'm now eating $$$$$ papa Murphy's

Shelly W.

Yelp
Burnt jojos and pizza manger said that that they were perfect not when there hard. If I could ever give a half of star I would.I will never eat at orchards mega bite pizza again

Kelly C.

Yelp
Been eating there for years, pizza is good, we usually get the Pounder and the wings are tasty as well.

Jesse V.

Yelp
Pizza's amazing I don't think that's correct grammar. The fish and chips are some of the best I've ever had

Yelp
Pretty good pizza, family-friendly atmosphere, good service, and reasonably priced. Apparently, I need 85 more characters, so I'll just say blah blah blah blah blah blah blah everything you need to know is above.

Yelp
We stopped at Megabite on Super Bowl Sunday to do something fun with our kids. We were the only people in restaurant. It was exactly what we were looking for as far as food and environment. All the games worked and the prices were pretty fair. The garlic bread was tasty, and the pizza crust had a great crunch! Some of the staff seemed really annoyed at our presence. We have 2 older kids and a toddler, which is why we had chosen a pizza joint in the first place, but one of the women seemed irritated when I asked about ranch and walked away. The gentleman who took our order was very sweet however There were no napkins out and no one helped me when I stood at the counter for a few minutes to ask. I don't expect a ton from pizza joints but I do wish she hadn't been quite so cold

Atlas K.

Yelp
I ordered in person. As i was ordering, phone orders came in. I asked about time, was told 16 minutes, and ordered a beer while i wait. Just as i was waiting, a lady from the back came out angry and said the time jumped 10 minutes because she had calls. I was already there. She called for help and another person came and was angry that they had business. The staff was not positive. My pizza has little sauce and is not completely cooked. I love 10 minutes away and it's cold. This is not a good pizza based on my experience today. PieHole is much better.

Yelp
Went here for a Saturday lunch. I know this place has existed as a pizza joint for a long time despite the ownership change, so was hoping for some good pie. The beers on tap were nice, as were the beer prices. The decor is conflicted. It's a mix of nerd culture, arcade and sports bar...with booths that need a lot of love (torn and ripped up). The pizza was disappointing. I assumed from the prices that it would be better. It wasn't awful, it just had that Jiffy pizza crust in a box flavor and crust...with obviously canned mushrooms. The service left a lot to be desired as well. Staff were walking back and forth and we stood at the counter waiting to find out if we had to bus our own table and to get a box...but no one ever even acknowledged us. We won't be back. For the price, there is so much better pizza (and service) in Vancouver.

Yelp
Update- we ordered the same pizza and the quality was not there this time! Hardly any toppings, bland and crust wasn't tasty! Not sure what happened but something changed!?!!!
google avatar

Hailey E.

Yelp
When you first pull up it looks like it could be a bar. But thankfully when you walk in; it's a family friendly nostalgic pizza place! Some fun arcade games out front and nice sitting area on the other side. Felt like I was stepping back into childhood and I hope they keep it that way. We got their combo pizza and it was super tasty! The pizza is not greasy and gets you full! It was a lovely experience!

Yelp
Amazing food. Ambiance. Service was wonderful. Brought back so many memories of the old Smokey's pizza of my younger years.
google avatar

Jason V.

Yelp
Inhabiting the corpse of Smokey's Pizza like a revenant risen from the grave, I can say that I am *very* thankful that the employees bought out the business from the previous owner. I wish I could articulate what it is about the ingredients used here and why they are special, but their pepperoni is just better than any other pizza place in the Portland metro area. Its flavor is potent, a trite smoky, and less greasy than similar offerings elsewhere. That doesn't do it justice, but I'm struggling to find the words to describe it properly. Try it for yourself and see if you do not agree. My only complaint is that they used to have habanero peppers, and they were removed from the menu for cost savings. A small pepperoni and habanero pizza was my go to guilty pleasure once a week for quite some time. Even so, I would (and do) pick this pizza place 9 times out of 10.
google avatar

Kyle C.

Yelp
Heard about this place through the grapevine so we were excited to try it being pizza lovers. We missed the old school ambiance of Smoky's from back in the day. The supreme came w/ every topping in the kitchen so the crust was soggy. Barely any sauce. Not enough cheese. Overpriced. Broken booth benches...

Kyle M.

Yelp
The pizza here is , local pizza parlor.. pizza tastes way better than the big pizza chains around here.. definitely coming back, hope they keep up the great quality!

Joe H.

Yelp
When they first opened, they had a pepperoni pizza very similar to the one I grew up with that old Smokeys Pizza here in Vancouver made when they were around. Small, round, crisp, curly pieces of pepperoni :) Last couple of times we went, it's been a dissapointment. Just the plain old, limp pepperoni you get from any other pizza place. Good, but dissapointed.

Tanya T.

Yelp
So disappointing! My husband and I have been coming here for years after we discovered it's same Pizza as the old Smokey's pizza. I actually worked at Smokey's as a teenager. We have come her faithfully and have spread the word. In the last year we have had several burnt pizzas. The latest one was two weeks ago. I honestly don't think that I can continue coming here and pay $40 for a burnt pizza. The last few times we've returned it and had to wait for a new pizza to be made. This last time we were honestly too tired to return it and had to just deal with it. I hope they get it together, but not sure that I will be returning to know if they have or not.

Nicole L.

Yelp
Watch your credit card charge!! They took a $50 tip instead of $5 and never corrected it...more than the total order itself. Luckily I caught it MANY months later when reconciling my credit card statements to receipts. I called and they gave me an email address to the owner to ask for my refund. I wrote the owner Steve, provided pictures and never heard a word back! Unbelievable!! Luckily the shift manager called me back and made it right but WOW!! Additionally, the last time I ordered from them I paid for a combination pizza and it came with no hamburger on it. I called and spoke to the manager Dave or Brian and asked if they were out or something. He said it should have been on there and sorry about that. No offer to make it right or give money back as it was now a 3 topping pizza (because I hold the mushrooms) which is a cheaper pizza. I didn't bother to pursue because unfortunately I am used to not getting what I ask for when ordering from them but usually it's just asking to have it cooked extra well done. NEVER HAPPENS. Fraudulently over charging my credit card was the last straw!

Yelp
Medium One Topping & Mozzarella sticks delivered $36. Delivery Time, said 1 hour took almost 2. Pizza was ok, Mozzarella sticks no Bueno.
google avatar

Yelp
I love their old fashion JoJos it's very hard to find old-school JoJos and ranch. I also enjoy their pizza. They used to be Smokies pizza and they still follow the same recipes and traditions of Smokies.

Yelp
Megabite is a slightly better-than-average pizza place with a long history. It has been around since the fifties (as Smokey's) and remains in its present form, as Megabite. First off, the pizzas here are VERY expensive ($31.45 for a 15" (large) "Megasupreme", $24.45 for a 12" (medium)), so prepare to pay handsomely compared to just about every other pizzeria I've ever been to. The quality of the pizza is pretty good, but definitely not worth the asking price. Also available are nachos, fish and chips, chicken strips, sandwiches, chicken wings, and other unique items such as "Jo Jo" potatoes, french fries, and soft pretzel sticks. I tired the nachos, and the chips tasted stale. The portion size was enormous, though. Pass on the house-made cookies, they're just not good. The staff is incredibly friendly and courteous, and the establishment is a bit of a blast form the past with all of the vintage video games, video game memorabilia, children's rides, etc. Megabite is a nice place to visit, it is just disproportionately expensive for what you get.

Kevin A.

Yelp
OMG pizza food but take it home !!!!! the screaming kids are ridiculous.... there's a place called chucky cheese.... to bad I will not be back.

Yelp
Best pizza in Vancouver, their bbq is the best in Vancouver Been coming back since reopening. Love the "smokies" taste so thank you so much don't change.

Yelp
Freakingly deliciously satisfying pizza. Split the house combo with the Hawaiian. It was so good! Hunter gave his seal of approval each bite. Their establishment was very clean, bathrooms spotless, and the TV was set the Blazers game! What else could you ask for? Next time I will try one of their French bread pizzas. They looked so delicious! Check them out!!

Yelp
Ordered a large pizza after tip 50$ normally is good this time almost no toppings what a waist of money

H F.

Yelp
I was craving megabites steak fries. Just a few minutes ago I went in - placed a to go order which came out to $6.06. When I got back to the office and opened the container, I was shocked. There was not even enough fries to cover the bottom of 1/4 of the container. It was like a bad joke. On top of that, the few fries in the container had NO salt, NO seasoning but were CHARRED. How they managed that, I have no idea. I know that Megabite has gone down hill and portions everywhere are getting smaller. Will not be returning. This must be why the restaurant is always empty.
google avatar

Sierra F.

Yelp
WOW WOW WOW!! As a refined pizza lover I am so impressed. I got their large Hawaiian but substituted white sauce; the second I picked up my order and smelled the pizza as I got into my car I already KNEW I was going to love it. Let me tell you, the utter STRENGTH it took me to not steal the pizza and run into my room, lock the door behind me, and eat it all to myself. Just WOW. Highly recommend this place! Beyond the pizza, from the few minutes I was in the actual restaurant, it seemed like a cute very family friendly place with games here and there. :) !

Janeen B.

Yelp
Old school pizza place including the games. Good pizza, awesome Jojo's. Both new and old games including foosball! Friendly staff. Good to bring larger groups.

Rick W.

Yelp
Just like Smokeys use to be they have all the recipes right down to the homemade ranch dressing.

Yelp
So first impressions of this place are a little odd. When you walk in, if you don't know anything about this place you may have a what the...... moment. It kinda looks like a sports bar, an amusement park, and a nerd convention got in a terrible train wreck and pizzas flew everywhere. I was scared when I walked in but I'm having a beer and it's starting to grow on me. It's really dead, like I'm the only person in here and there's three employees working but maybe it gets bumpin at night and it's noon. Looks like a really fun place to come and have a kids birthday party and drink a beer and let the kids go nuts. The menu looks pretty straight foreword and not huge. It's really taking a while to get my fish and chips though....considering I'm the only person here. So when I asked for my drink and food, apparently she only heard beer, so we figured it out and hopefully it's worth the wait lol Well it was alright in a good way. The fish tastes like it came outta the freezer just a little. I have a finely tuned tongue so most people wouldn't notice. It was pretty tasty though. The fries were a little over cooked and had like no seasoning but after I smashed them with vinegar and salt they were great. Tartar sauce was good and home made. Would I come back, maybe. Well probably. Even though there was the order mix up and the girl that mixed it up wasn't stellar as far as customer service went for a couple reasons. But the food was good and the place is cool. More people have showed up since I sat down and and it seems chill enough. The pizza prices look way out of control and I'm really having a tough time if 3 or 4 stars are a good fit, but the food was good and I'm leaving happyish regardless of having to wait an extra 20 minutes for lunch lol

Yelp
We were looking for a delivery pizza place since our regular pizza places (Rally's and Blind Onion) either closed or didn't deliver. We thought we would give them a try even though their prices seemed pretty high for a pizza and salad. We ordered their Hot oven combo (Med) and salad at almost $50 with delivery! Our pizza arrived after about an hour and unfortunately it was cold and the crust was thin and flavorless. The meats were saltier than expected and the salad was just chopped iceberg lettuce with pizza toppings. I really can't recommend this place for delivery and maybe one of their other pizza combinations will taste better but for what we paid, definitely not worth it.
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
When we started ordering the large Combination it cost $4.50. Now it costs half a day's pay. But it's still the best pizza I've ever had.

Yelp
We were dying to try the fish and chips they advertise on the front window, so we popped in for lunch. The restaurant is clean and has a family friendly feel, with a TV, computers, console games, and arcade games to play. We ordered the fish and chips, chicken strips and fries, and garlic bread. The fries were okay and were pretty standard steak fries, the chicken was crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, and the garlic bread was pretty bland and not toasted enough. The fish itself was nice and flaky, but the coating went limp within a few minutes of arriving at the table and became inedible and difficult to chew. To their credit, they apologized profusely and insisted on giving us a refund while also remaking the fish with an altered batter mixture and a fresh order of fries. The second batch of fish was somewhat better, but only two pieces stayed crispy, and the others quickly went as limp as the first batch did, perhaps because they didn't cook as long as the crispy pieces. We appreciate their effort and willingness to fix it, and neither of us are really sure what was wrong with the batter but we won't order the fish again. We might come back sometime to try some pizza or other things off the menu.

Yelp
Really wasn't sure what I was expecting when I came here. Pizza was okay. I think the pizza chains are better. What made this interesting was the games. There are arcade games along with a couple small TVs set up with the original Nintendo and an N64. Probably wouldn't go back but could see this a good place to bring kids and entertain them for a lunch period.
google avatar

Yelp
I find the whole atmosphere of this place to be very fascinating. Nostalgic video and arcade games that is something that I really admire. I also love how the theme of this place embraces nerd culture. Unfortunately, the quality of the food made me bump it down two stars. The pizza wasn't terrible. That's probably because pizza is one of the hardest foods to possibly screw up. I'm not sure if I've ever even had a nasty tasting slice of pizza in my life. The pizza had none of the doughy goodness that most independent pizza joints have. I'm okay with flat crust pizza if it's east coast style but that's not what this place was. The cheese didn't taste very fresh either and I'm sure was pre packaged and already shredded when the place got it. Like I said, the pizza wasn't bad, I've just had better pizza at too many places to name. Overall, it was the atmosphere that caught my attention and sadly not the food. I would only come here again if I was with friends and wanted to play games while also having dinner. The theme was excellent but the food wasn't.

Dameita S.

Yelp
LOVE their pizza!! The one thing I don't like is when you order a pizza and a salad to go, they get the salad and dressing ready and it sits on the counter until the pizza is ready. I don't like my salad dressing sitting on the counter for 20 minutes or more. That's why I gave four stars.

Yelp
Called ahead and was told 20 min, got there 15 min later and still had to wait 20+ min. Not a big deal if the pizza was amazing. But instead it's super expensive and instantly disappointing. We ordered the Hawaiian and it should be called the ham sandwich. Sooo much ham....that just takes like cheap ham. And the cheddar cheese just kills it. Dough isn't great either. Should mention we got a half cheese half pepperoni for the kids and the pepperoni wasn't horrible, this the two stars. Unfortunately this is another pizza place in the Vancouver area that we won't be back to patronize.

Yelp
Pizza not worth the price, garlic and cheese bread definitely not worth the price...... don't waste your money!!! While my husband and I were waiting for our below average food, overheard employees talking about personal issues out in the open. And to top it all off, manager Tam needs to learn better customer service skills and not argue with customers!!!

Yelp
They have really good options for all different types of pizza. Their prices are good for the food quality and also the staff is super friendly and nice. The pizza tastes like old Smokey's when they were around years ago

Yelp
have been a fan of Smokeys since the 70s High school hangout in the 80s. Megabite took over it didn't skip a beat. But today was really Disappointment ordered 3 pies in hazel dell to take to my customer for a thank you launch. This is not at all what they have been serving! in the past. the crust is not what it was. this is like a frozen pizza from Safeway. come on mannn. toppings very thin. cheese way overdone. a nice crusty hard topping. I should have opened up and looked before I left. my bad on that. $70 for 1 lg 2 med 2 topping pies. i would pay up for a good pizza but really got screwed on this one.

Yelp
Great pizza and salad. We usually get the hot oven combo. Or the Hawaiian. Yummmo.. our favorite place to get pizza.

Yelp
I took my dad out on Father's Day to my favorite local tap house, Gossip in the Grain. The Megabite delivers there so it was the best of both worlds. This was my first experience with Megabite and it was delicious. The delivery time was about an hour and 20 minutes but it was Father's Day so that's what I expected. We had the BBQ Bacon Chicken pizza. It was great. I'm not usually a bbq pizza fan, but the pineapple was a nice touch. Other than being expensive, which all pizza places are these days, there is nothing I would change.

Yelp
I'm a burger guy, but you know sometimes your kids drag you out to get pizza after sports. Wow! I'm sure glad I listened!! Thin crust pizza with healthy toppings! Tasty meats and good beer on tap. This place if FAMILY arcade style, so if little ones running around, playing like kids do bothers you, stay away! For the wife and I - it was heaven, 3 out of our 4 kids were off playing (17year olds are to cool to play games at a restaurant) We enjoyed some good food, conversation and laughs watching the kids have a blast... #2 on my list for pizza!! We will return
