San Francisco’s Coffee Shop Dance Parties Pair DJs With Caffeine | Eater SF

"A plant shop that alternates between barber services and a cafe depending on the outpost, the Haight Street location went viral in spring 2025 when hundreds of guests danced among houseplants (almost 600 people RSVP’d). Co-owner David Velasco was a barista at Duboce Park Cafe trained by Blue Bottle, and he and partner Lorena Velasco have turned their coffee bar into a regular stop for tourists and locals; the shop is currently closed for renovation until mid-August and will return with seating for the first time and expanded pastry offerings. The outpost hosts live music at night, books private groups and shows (including Black artist-centered Silk), and pays musicians and DJs competitive rates rather than exposure alone. Lorena Velasco remembers the viral parties vividly: “If you left to get a breath of air, you had to get back in line to get in,” and she frames the concept as “very much people wanting to gather during the day, and not always around alcohol. A cocktail can be like $15 for one.” The reopening will bring more parties, including a kick-off with DJ collective Sazon Libre." - Paolo Bicchieri

Such a cute store!!! I only got a matcha (it was good - nothing special but my standards for matcha are high), but I wanted to buy many other items too 😂

Google
Such an enchanting plant store. The large skylight floods the plant area with loads of natural light. The humidifiers added an ethereal fog that embraced the plants. Lots of healthy gorgeous plants to ooh and aah over. Also discovered the cooler with fabulous drinks to try. We took a trip in the photo booth to commemorate our visit to this super fun stop!

Google
We had the sweetest server, her name was Dylan. Was efficient and friendly. All the staff were friendly and our food was delicious! Dylan gets 5 stars and we will definitely be back to the mellow mushroom!

Daena

Google
I just needed to come here to let you all know I had the best experience at Mellow because of Juice! Her knowledge of plants 🌱, humor and customer service made me feel so confident in becoming a plant parent 🙌🏽 She must own a jungle at home the way she cares for the greenery there. She’s the new Tarzan - all she needs is a loin cloth! 🌴

Just an amazingly wonderful plant and coffee shop. From the vibe to the product, this place is a calm and beautiful oasis on a very dynamic corner. The staff is knowledgeable, warm, and very engaging. Their plants are easily the happiest plants on Haight, by a loooong shot, their products are elegant, high quality, and in APARTMENT SIZED package sizes that are extremely well priced. **MWAH!! THANK YOU!!!** Now that I have a chance to return to my indoor plants, I am super stoked to have these folks just down the street and am looking forward to many new plant adventures!

Google
This is my new favorite plant store! It’s one of the most beautifully decorated and curated stores in the city. You can tell they care about their plants because of the humidifiers placed in various sections. I remember when this used to be a clothing store and they’ve really doing a great job utilizing the space - making it look inviting and inspirational. The prices seem on par for the city and there’s a good selection to choose from for any space. They also offer delivery for just $5. There’s a few bar stools by the cashier which makes me think they do a few small classes.

Jackson was our server, very courteous, attentive and very friendly. This is one of my favorite places.

We had a very friendly attentive server. Everyone enjoyed the food they ordered. Our server was Jackson at the place on Gervais St in Columbia SC

Yelp
Buy plants? Get coffee? Maybe even a hair cut? Possibly walk into a dj and people jamming? Yessssss! Full reel tic toc = MLE colors

Yelp
They had a live DJ playing during the day so we decided to take a look. It was so lively! They have plants on display as well as other snacks and goodies for sale. Great vibes and good place to hangout. The coffee bar looked intriguing with fun seasonal drinks, so we got ourselves a little treat. My friend ordered a standard matcha latte and I got something called a "Matcha Cloud" which has coconut water as the base. I asked the cashier if it had a strong matcha flavor since I was a little skeptical (I like my matcha to taste like matcha and a little grassy), and she recommended it. We got our drinks... we were so disappointed. There was no matcha flavor in either of ours, and we even watched them traditionally whisk the matcha with a chasen but my friend reported hers was straight up milk. Mine just tasted like coconut water. It's also not cheap, so I would not recommend getting the matcha here. Other than that, the workers were really nice and it was a cute stop and I can see myself returning, just not for their drinks.

Yelp
Love this place. Plants and coffee. Enough said. Like the variety of plants here and it's okay if you don't buy on every single visit because it's okay to come into the shop to soak up the vibes and maybe some coffee. The pup and I like to drop by on occasion when we go exploring the Haight and Ashbury neighborhood. Peace! Located on the corner of Haight and Masonic.

Yelp
Love this spot. Came on a Wed afternoon. They were so helpful and prices were reasonable for the health of their plants. Totally will becoming back and definitely recommend!

Yelp
The cutest & coolest plant shop in the area with solid drinks! Really cool concept to have a little cafe in such a beautiful plantscape environment. They also had tons of trendy little items on the side to buy as well. For drinks I had the traditional hot matcha latte which comes unsweetened. You can add sugar yourself and I found that two pumps of syrup was perfect for me. It was a light matcha and very comforting. My friends enjoyed their coffees as well. We came close to closing but the workers were very accommodating nonetheless. I absolutely loved exploring the shop! Would return if I'm in the area again :)
google avatar

Saleen M.

Yelp
Love the vibes of this cafe! It is a plant nursery too & they have the most beautiful collection. I wish there was one in SD because I would definitely buy a lot of their plants! They serve traditional coffees, nothing fancy, & they make it nice.

Yelp
My best friend and I wanted coffee and we came across this spot by walking around the area and I'm so glad we stopped by! It's so cute with all the plants and the high ceilings! Very aesthetically pleasing. We both got an iced matcha latte but I forgot to take pictures because we were in a rush to leave but definitely check this place out!

Yelp
i stopped by this place on a rainy day while waiting to meet up with a friend. i've wanted to check out this place for awhile so it was perfect! i got a matcha latte and perused the shop. i asked one of the staff about my plant (i purchased it elsewhere) that seems to be struggling but he talked me through it and assured it was fine. he even said i could come back and inquire further if i was still having problems - so awesome! i appreciated the advice. the shop is so calming and mellow, true to its name. i *wish* they had a couple of chairs or small tables to hang out and enjoy the beverages, but maybe they just want folks to grab and go instead? either way, i'll def be back to get some new plant babies!

Yelp
Just moved back to SF and since I had to leave all my plants in TX, I needed to fill up my new place. Bookmarked a bunch of plant shops and Mellow was my first stop and boy did I get lucky. My fav tree is the money tree (and olive tree) and I was thrilled to see that Mellow had really big, strong looking money trees so I picked one up. It was super affordable at only $120 for one that'll grow up to 6ft tall (Leon & George sells it online with a pot for $800!). I've only had the tree for a couple of weeks and she is thriving with amazing growth! The shop was so cool and the staff was extra helpful and friendly, carefully packaging her and placing her in my car. I also went to the Mellow in the Mission and there's just no comparison. I wish they had more locations with even more inventory. The shop is such a vibe and I'd love to see more plants, more products and it would be so cool if they had a seating area for their coffee bar to just hang out, drink coffee and plant-watch. I've since been to many top plant shops in sf and Mellow's vibe is one of my top favs.

Yelp
GORGEOUS!! This is the perfect place on Haight to browse beautiful plants, take a breather and grab a coffee. I had the rose latte and the flavor was not overwhelming at all. The focus was definitely the coffee, but the subtle rose elevated the drink. The coffee is pretty good so definitely recommend checking out if you're in the neighborhood. Nothing beats a warm latte on a cold day! Can't wait to come back to try more of their drinks and admire the plants :)

Yelp
I received a gift card for Christmas so I came here to get a new plant for my house. I asked for help and the gentleman behind the counter was so nice and friendly. I explained to him that I wanted a small, low maintenance plant. He was extremely knowledgeable and was able to show me a few different options. I picked one I liked and after I paid he wrapped up the plant and further explained the best way to take care of it. This place is so cute! They have a coffee kiosk inside and also have music performances on certain nights. Would definitely come back for that!

Yelp
This is a review for an event space rental at their venue on Pine Street, not listed as a Yelp option. Our anonymous non-profit rented this venue for a high-profile event, and were excited to be using the lovely space. It seemed to check all the boxes for our very specific needs, and they offered a great non-profit discount which made it affordable. Unfortunately the bar service that we hired allowed their ice buckets to leak on the floor, and the Mercado decided to dock our non-profit discount without sharing receipts for the actual costs to fix any damages. The post event communication has been so unprofessional, and really unkind. I would have loved an opportunity to resolve it in a civil manner, and have been locked out of the communication by the owner.

Yelp
Such a cute spot with great quality coffee!! They also had a photo booth and plants for sale. Will be returning when I'm in the area!

Yelp
First time coming to coffee / plant store. First of all the ambience was great as soon as we walked in and the staff were very friendly. The barista in the front helped me choose my drink. The iced vanilla latte was 10/10. The coffee here is definitely on the pricier side. Definitely worth the money I would say. They also have a really cool photo booth inside which is nice and they have some really cool looking plants so I will definitely be back soon.
google avatar

Neesh S.

Yelp
This is less of a plant store and more of an experience to be honest. The space itself is very cool. Tons of plants, a coffee area and just a ton of other great odds and ends. The staff are very helpful with tips about plant care, and provided options as well. They have a great selection and the price is not bad either!
google avatar

Colleen L.

Yelp
Definitely love how much variety of plants the store has to offer. You can expect to see all of the usual snakes, pothos, some monsteras and cactus. Unfortunately, they don't have much pots and other plant tools. They have a coffee bar here as well, didn't try so I can't tell you if it's good. Pretty solid plant store if you're just looking to pick up a new plant. I took away 4 stars because the two guys working here were extremely unfriendly even when I said hi to them when entering the store. They practically ignore their customers and can careless if you have a question. Overall a nice selection and cute plant store but the employees really killed the vibe.

Carrie S.

Yelp
Very flavorful Best raspberry Mocha yet. Plants and coffee what more do you need. Barber shop on upper floor too.
google avatar

Katie C.

Yelp
Cute. Aesthetic. Also, coffee?! The Mellow is a plant community staple. This is their newer Haight Ashbury location, and it's such an awesome space. They now have a coffee shop, which is such a beautiful lure into the luscious jungle that is their shop. They also have tables upstairs if you want to sit and enjoy. Their collection of plants are really healthy and thriving. I even bought an adorable, woodcut hanging propagation item as a gift. If you're in the area, stop by. Why not? My star rating: 5 - I would be a regular customer 4 - would go back again 3 - probably try a different place 2 - not very satisfied 1 - turnaround and run

Yelp
Such a cute plant shop, with a coffee shop inside! They had a variety of plant options and the staff were knowledgeable/helpful for plant care as well. The white chocolate mocha surprised me- it was extremely flavorful and had the perfect amount of sweetness. They also had lavender and rose lattes there that I'm looking forward to trying next visit. Overall super cute store to grab a cup of coffee and plant shop if you're around Haight Street.
google avatar

Yelp
Nice place to poke around and grab a coffee. Large selection of house plants with expert advice. Really enjoyed recently on a rainy day. A couple tourists walked in and their facial expressions said it all: they had never been to such a unique place before. Definitely a lush rainforest meets laidback cafe vibes. Only downside was the hot water poured into my americano wasn't even close to the right temperature. Nothing like a nice double shot ruined by lukewarm water.
google avatar

Vince G.

Yelp
Came here on a rainy Sunday afternoon and the shop was pretty lively as there were a couple of plant shoppers. We got the hot chocolate and vanilla latte and we were impressed by the taste and quality of our drinks. We really liked the design and aesthetic of the coffee shop and plant shop as well. Definitely will come back again for another cup

Yelp
Love this spot - all the beautiful plants one could ask for and a knowledgeable staff that have helped me to understand my plant parenting mistakes & help my babies grow!

Yelp
Super chill spot Perfect location Tons of plants I loved the lavender latte Fun store in the heart of Haight

Yelp
We went here for their live jazz at night, the Mellow Sessions, after the cute little enthusiastic lady at the door at their sister event, at the lake house in GG Park, told us about this. The venue has a proper vibe. It's a plant store where you're encouraged to learn some and become a plant mom/pop. The store smells of sage and lavender so you're already soothed right in the door. The band was on point, the drummer Thomas Pridgen was mind blowing. Only minor gripe was that the music was a little too loud for such a tiny space, everyone seemed to need to close their ears / step outside for a break. I hope real music seshes like these continue, well worth the dough!

Roberto M.

Yelp
Their coffee is superb ! The team is super friendly and the whole place has a cool vibe :)
google avatar

Julie N.

Yelp
Cute store but poor quality plants. I bought two that looked okay in the store, but on closer inspection at home, the calathea beauty star had its leaves cut (presumptively to get rid of crispy edges so they look better). I also noticed nursery netting that was limiting root growth so I recommend re-potting these right away. I also bought a pothos and when I went to repot it, I found some unrooted leaves without any nodes (essentially will just die) stuffed in the pot to make it look fuller. Overall given how up-priced these plants are, I would recommend smaller stores with better plants (the plant lady SF in Ingleside, succulence in Bernal, or Flora Grubbs Gardens for large leafy guys) or trying your luck with Lowe's rather than waste your money here.

Yelp
Day visited: Sunday Items ordered: Cortado & Iced Mocha Price (total for 2 drinks): ~$9-12 Parking: Scattered throughout the area, first come first serve with metered options available. The Mellow is a wonderful example of leading by example in terms of living up to its name! The delightfully decorated space has equal parts calming demeanor scattered throughout pockets of curiosities that excite and amaze. You feel as though you're walking through a neighborhood greenhouse that also happens to serve some delightful coffee. Despite the small bar layout (ModBar setup for those coffee folks), the drinks flowing out of there are big in flavor. The cortado was delicious, albeit a bit on the hot side, while the iced mocha had a wonderful chocolate taste that still managed to stay creamy and soothing even minutes after the initial sips. Overall, a great place to check out once in the neighborhood and somewhere to stop by on your way to the other shops along the street!
google avatar

Jamie B.

Yelp
A cute space on haight. They sell artisanal style goods, like sage, tote bags, glass wear, CBD goods. They also of course have tons of plants and a coffee bar inside. Their coffee pricing is good. We got an iced americano and and iced matcha and were both satisfied. They were 10oz drinks I believe. The staff was very friendly and they are dog friendly ! Overall a really cute shop and I would stop in again.
google avatar

Jon T.

Yelp
I can't express how nice it is to get some diversity of stores on Haight. The Mellow brings a fun, chill spot where you can shop for some more green in your life. The Mellow's location is very large, and prominently located at Masonic/Haight. The lightening and atmosphere make all of the plants that much more attractive. But even without the ambience, the selection and quality of plants are both very good. The plants look healthy and you shouldn't have a problem finding something that fits your space. On that, the employees there are really knowledgeable and can help you evaluate what makes sense for your home. I've often heard them give advice and tips to people with existing plants, who are trying to save or return them back to life. To top this all off, they often have someone djing in the store. To this I say, how do I get in on the dj action?
google avatar

Yelp
I am giving these beauties a 5 star because of their love for plants. Yes, I have yet to actually purchase a plant but that's because I want to make sure that the plant I purchase is welcomed into a climate it's going to flourish in. I currently have my eyes on their rare plants, which I must add, are very well kept. I was educated by both Lo and Oscar on the plants they currently have and ones I have in my own collection. This is my second time coming into this location and that's a lot being I'm not anywhere close to living around here. I've purchased socks, pins, and stickers and will be back to learn more from Lo and Oscar.
google avatar

Anthony T.

Yelp
Not sure what beans they use, but I'm a coffee snob and lately their pour overs have been absolutely top notch in taste and flavor. They have a nice Hario setup flavor profile is indicative to some very high end beans :)
google avatar

Samantha C.

Yelp
Such a cute store to buy plants!!! This store opened recently at the beginning of may! The plants range in price. Some plants are cheaper, but the more rare plants do cost more! They also had 2 dogs, lilac and mellow, so so cute and friendly! This store even has a small little section of dog stuff and candles etc! Definitely coming back to buy more plants!
google avatar

Breanna D.

Yelp
Really wanted to like the coffee at this place, but my partner ordered a cappuccino for me and it was about a 15 minute wait which I feel like is unreasonable when it wasn't that busy. I left and came back twice before it was ready. once I received my drink I was disappointed when I began to get a serious stomach ache about 30 minutes later and realized they must have given me whole milk when I specifically requested and paid for oat milk (I'm severely lactose intolerant). I knew it didn't taste like oat milk as I drank it after leaving and it really upset my stomach for the rest of the day, the way whole milk always does. It wasn't that busy so I don't see how that mistake could happen. The drinks are quite pricey too. Unfortunate experience.

Yelp
The Mellow is a wonderful neighborhood shop to browse for beautiful plants, get a high-quality and delicious coffee, and relax with great vibes in the Haight! The staff is consistently friendly and super welcoming. The owner clearly has a vision for the store, and it shows! Everything is carefully chosen, from the decor to the plants to the coffee menu. They are constantly improving the offerings, throughout the entire store. It really shows when a business puts this much love and care into what they do. It is an absolute pleasure to order one of their delicious lattes, leisurely browse the greenery and curiosities, and then pick up a yummy warm beverage with a smile and sweet conversation from the lovely staff. This blooming establishment really lives up to its name -- mellow, peaceful, and full of relaxing, kind vibes. This is a must-visit in the Haight and wherever they open next!
google avatar

Alba S.

Yelp
Such a cute location. Love the atmosphere of the store the sales associate was very helpful and knowledgeable about the plants. They had a good variety of plants. I picked up the Elephant ear plant. Price range was fair. They have two locations I haven't visited the mission location one yet but I'm pretty sure I will soon.
google avatar

Elaine T.

Yelp
The shop is spotless, the staff is super friendly, and the plants are gorgeous and healthy. This is one of my favorite places.
google avatar

Fatima C.

Yelp
The ambiance of this entire store was just gorgeous! The decorations and the plant placement were just so thoughtful and strategic that it even lured non-plant enthusiasts in (aka me). There was also DJ playing music at the time that I was visiting. The staff was super kind and you can just tell that they are very knowledgeable and passionate about each and every plant that was in the store.
google avatar

Mariah B.

Yelp
I was hooked immediately after my first visit! This store has everything a "plant parent" could need or desire. Plants, pots, diffusers, soil, misters...everything your plant "babies" need can be found here! The store also has a really fun vibe. I will be stopping in soon to pick up some plants for my room!

Patricia S ..

Yelp
This location has very rude owners. Avoidant and unfriendly. They act like they are more busy than they actually are and are unwilling to help. Great plant selection, a little overpriced, but would not come back here even if I got paid to. Completely ruined my day, and highly suggest not visiting if you are trying to have a good one. It's a shame this plant store does not have good customer service, but I recommend going to Botanic Panic in the Mission for plants.
google avatar

Kirsty L.

Yelp
Plants AND coffee? I was obsessed. This aesthetic and beautiful plant shop in the Haight is perfection. They have floor to ceiling plants, goodies for sale and a coffee shop all in one. I came in mostly for the coffee and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. I got the white mocha latte with oat milk and it was delicious. Topped with edible flowers, this place is a must. Come for the caffeine and leave with a new plant baby.
google avatar

Erika T.

Yelp
First time here! I walked in and felt my mood switch from good to great. I'm a not very knowledgeable when it comes to plants so the worker there was very informative. i thank his suggestions & recommendations that led me to my first purchase at this shop!
google avatar

Karlie K.

Yelp
This store makes me feel instantly relaxed. Plants hanging on the walls all the way to the ceiling. To top it off the BEST coffee on the block. 10/10 would recommend

Dana A.

Yelp
I had been wanting to stop by this shop for a few weeks and finally did so, only to be incredibly disappointed. Upon entering the store no one greeted us or checked in with us as we checked out the rest of the shop. The store itself is really cool and has beautiful plants.
google avatar

Esther W.

Yelp
The Mellow SF may have just turned me into a plants person. I visited this lovely shop during one of their Friday night mellow sessions--which was amazing in its own way, but that's a topic for another time. During intermission, we had the chance to shop in the store. So many of their plants caught my eye. The variety of unique and adorable plants is almost overwhelming. I had a hard time picking between two, but the staff was very helpful and gave me instructions on how to take care of my plant (super needed and appreciated by a newbie like me). I'd definitely visit again!

Kevin G.

Yelp
Just left this place 15min ago. My wife and I were at this location and were ignored by staff. We usually go to the Mission location and have a different experience. Despite the rude customer service, I would say it is an ok place. It had a weird aroma that left my wife feeling light-headed. I would not come here, but maybe if they turned off those scented smoke machines. Probably not. There's mostly good reviews, but only a few bad ones surprisingly.
google avatar

Yelp
If this isn't just the cutest addition the Haight Ashbury neighborhood then I just don't know anything at all. The random overpriced fast fashion clothing store that used to be here was low key just wasting space and I couldn't be happier that The Mellow SF got to open here. I've probably come in 5 or 6 times since they opened and have consistently had a kind and productive visit. The employee that typically helps me whose name I don't know for some reason since she's usually there is super knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I feel like she might be an owner? Or a manager? She's great. But everyone else that works there is great too. Like... I kind of want to work here part time. Speaking as a current retail employee, I can't imagine being in a more relaxed work environment. Both the plants I had prior to visiting and the plants I've purchased from here are all thriving (except my Venus fly trap... no one is lying when they say these little guys really need distilled water, but that's my fault lol). I probably don't need to buy any more any time soon as my living room is starting to look more outdoors than indoors at this point, but this will definitely be my go-to spot for any plant gifts I want to give in the future. I also really like their liquid fertilizer and their organic soil. I love that the soil comes in a resealable paper bag (kind of like a coffee bag) instead of plastic. And I pop in every now and then to check out their pot selection because they're all very nice and neutral. As soon as some of my plant children start to outgrow their current pots and it's time for upgrades I'm coming straight here. I also never like to join rewards programs but I'm glad I joined this one. I get maybe one text a month when they're doing a random sale that day. I've always been at work when this happens, but I got to send my roommate over once to get us a hanging plant for the bathroom. It's probably better for my bank account to not be home when there's a sale anyway. There are A LOT of beautiful things here. Also, if you're lucky, a dog or two (one named Mellow) will be there looking cute, being insanely well behaved, and minding their own business. 5 million stars to The Mellow SF. I like it so much that I kind of want to take the short trip over to their other location just to see if it's equally as adorable.
google avatar

Jarren B.

Yelp
Great service. The pot prices are normal maybe on the pricey side but understandable. I love going in the store checking all the plants. Great place to grab plants as they have been cared for.

Yelp
3 months later, my plant is still going strong (yay!) This shop is beautiful inside with a large selection of plants, and very friendly staff that will make sure you leave happy. Although I don't live in SF, I hope to return next time I'm in the area. My only wish is that there were more colors of pots, but my black pot is more than enough to keep my plant alive!
