LOOKS GOOD FROM FAR BUT FAR FROM GOOD. Sort by older reviews to get more transparent reviews. The newest reviews are most likely from the temporary sales reps who move in for five months and leave. PROS: Terry the groundskeeper deserves 10 stars and a raise. He might be the only employee doing his job and other peoples job. Other employees of the complex are friendly and nice - Becca is great and I think the most tenured employee which you can see with interaction. --- There is so much the employees on site can do to handle certain issues. (I’ve lived here for almost three years and it’s been declining since.) CONS: If you move here you will probably move into a damaged unit and you will open many maintenance requests that never get fixed. Dishwashers always flooding and smell horrible in multiple units. Had water leaking into our living room when it rained and it took almost two months to get it fixed. Puddles of water and damaged our carpet. Imagine paying to have a patio unit and your door is broke and won’t open… Or moving in and the cabinets are falling off of the wall and you have to wait 2 weeks to put your kitchen items away. Or the master closet shelves fall out the wall and you wait 3 weeks for the repair only for the guy to do a POOR job. Fell out within minutes and when he had to come back he was rude and obnoxious (He quit or was fired) They won’t replace our nasty blinds from the previous tenants whose cat clearly was biting them. WHY? BECAUSE HE SAID THEY ARE FUNCTIONAL? We had to remove screws and broken brackets because I couldn’t risk that with my crawling 10 month old. I don’t fully blame the management team only so much you can do but good lord if you are a repair or handyman come apply here they need HELP Update April 5th Nashville under severe flood warnings water coming through the floor boreds. Confirmed “termites” eating through ceiling and we are expected to wait until Wednesday for pest control. Added picture of water coming through floor. Update: April 10th - we were put in temp housing and came back. Said pest control tended to termites. Adding new pictures of termites in living room

I have lived at the Melrose for a couple of months and have zero complaints. Caleb at the front desk always has the residents best interest at heart and so does Becca. Very respectful and attentive. Every time I have a concern or question it is addressed almost immediately. The amenities are great, pool always clean, and maintenance quick to respond. Great location too close to everything.

Brett L.

Google
Caleb & Becca are super helpful. Moved in April and this place has everything. Super friendly staff, clean atmosphere. The pool is amazing and up-kept. Gym is clean and has plenty of equipment. Apartments are spacious and very comfortable to live in.

I moved to the Melrose in April and have loved everything about my experience since. The pool area and gym are used almost every day by me and my family. The people that live there are all awesome and friendly. Caleb and Becca in the office make sure that everything is always running smoothly when we need maintenance in our apartments. 10/10 recommend.

Google
The apartments have been very fun and easy to live in, the staff especially Caleb and Becca have been very helpful and supportive. The apartments themselves are clean and the maintenance guys have been awesome. They are close to everything you might want, food, broadway etc. would recommend staying here!

Maximiliano S.

Google
Caleb and Becca were both helpful and professional during our visit to the apartment. The unit was clean, well-maintained, and everything appeared to be in good condition. They answered our questions clearly and made sure we had all the information we needed. The overall experience was smooth and well-organized.

Google
I travel a lot for my work so I’ve been in many different apartments and by far this is one of the best places I’ve stayed at so far. They have a nice hangout area, actually a solid gym and a really nice pool. Caitlyn don’t know what she talking about, in life you can’t make everyone happy. Shoutout to Caleb and Becca at the front desk, if we had any issues or questions they always help us out!

Google
Becca and Caleb are the best managers at the front desk. They tend to the tenants needs really quickly and always make sure everything is the best it could be for people who live there. Super awesome and clean.

Yelp
Hands down the best complex. Being in Nashville can be hard. However the staff is amazing best overall place to live~

Yelp
Unfortunately, this is by far the worst complex I have ever lived in. I came from an apartment in another state that was similar in price but beautiful, secure, well-maintained with lovely staff. I should have known when no actual person wanted to take me on a tour and I had to do a "self-guided" tour. Really? The garage floods in my building when it rains and both elevators went out for several days. I can't imagine how you would live here if you had a disability. The dog park is uneven and collects a lot of water when it rains to dilute the dog poop. Personally I think it's awful not to clean up after your dog. But no one else helps and if they want it to stop they should do DNA testing like newer complexes do and then send the owner a fine. But if others are so entitled they don't think it's their job, you just can't let it be there. I am paying to use that dog park and I expect it to be mostly clean and well-lit. Many things break in the apartment too, which is very frustrating. I feel like I am in a third-world country to be honest. Caleb in the office is wonderful but I have run into more than I ever want to again of people with RBF who might as well say what the hell do you want when you walk in the door. I am only staying here for the convenience. And I have not mentioned everything. Scott in maintenance is also nice and I feel sorry for him because I think he must have more than he can deal with every day. I would never "refer a friend" even if it took $350 off my rent for one month because I am pretty certain that person would have nothing to do with me after seeing what I recommended for them. I am only staying out of convenience for work but when my lease is up I am out of here.

Yelp
Would give 0 stars if possible. Please do yourself a favor and DO NOT live here. First, their garages/parking lots are a huge flood hazard, and they do nothing to prevent damages aside from sending you an email along the lines of "FLOOD WARNING - DO NOT PARK ___". Upon move-out, we were charged $275 for the default unit-installed microwave. We had already previously submitted a work order for this microwave, which had a broken handle. Was told that regardless of when the work order was put in, we would have to pay for the replacement microwave. On the market something that might cost maybe a hundred bucks, they managed to charge me $250 (+ $12.5 for the broken microwave door handle itself! how ridiculous, you say you replaced it, and are charging me for the door also??) The front office rep then asked, "Did I mark damages regarding the microwave when you first moved in?" No we did not notice that the door handle had already been weakened. When we put in the work order request to fix the microwave door, the maintenance came in and glued the pieces in, rather than actually fixing the unit. They clearly do not conduct business in a professional manner if they are going to leave in damages like this and require tenants to pay for it at a 200% hike...

Yelp
I moved back to Nashville in 2021 and was not impressed with my last complex in Arlington VA. When I got here, the staff was nice enough and things ran smoothly. But when current management came in, things started to change... There was a proactive movement to make improvements within the complex for the better - by communication and action. Issues were addressed throughout the property. One of the consistent mainstays of the apartment complex from Day 1 was the maintenance staff. Now - management was leading and listening to their concerns - and it was noticeable. This may be the best Apartment Complex Management team in Metro Nashville and I feel comfortable saying that. Looking forward to continued improvement!!!

Yelp
Update: they are deleting google reviews..... my car got totaled and flooded in their parking lot. This is directly not their fault but they were horrible dealing with it. The city opened the flood gates of the dam and the barking lot had 3+ feet of water. Horrible management and service. I wish I could give 0 stars. DO NOT LIVE HERE!!!!! You pay a lot of money for a false security. There has been a trespasser sleeping in the hallway for 6 nights now. Management has lied to us and told us they will be locking stairwell doors. They haven't (they need to order new doors. They haven't come in) BUT THEY TOLD US "the locksmith is on the way right now". Along with that, we found out that this trespasser has been here before and management failed to send out an email informing the residents. The way the buildings are set up if the stairwells are locked people can still get in through the elevator doors. Management (cottonwood) does not care about our safety. You pay a lot of money to live here, there is a false sense of security with the gates that people CAN SQUEEZE THEIR BODIES THROUGH. do yourself a favor and don't live here. They take no responsibility. Also. In the lease, there is a clause about security not being management's responsibility. Fine. In Tennessee there are tenant laws that give us a right to a safe environment. When this was brought up to the manager she stated "well in the lease!" We interrupted there, we were not talking about out unit but the building. She was silent on the other side. She knows we can withhold rent until more security is added. I am sad this place has such crappy management

Yelp
My friend and I were super excited to check out The Melrose Apartments this past weekend. Almost instantly, we were treated as if we were an inconvenience. Alexandria, who was working in the office, acted as if we were a huge hassle to her. She basically acted annoyed and hurried the tour as quick as possible... complaining the WHOLE time. It was the worst apartment tour I have ever been on. We quickly took off Melrose from our list, due to lack of professionalism. I don't want to live somewhere with rude management.

Yelp
Semi nice apartments and the amenities are good but the new owners and management team at the property are horrible! Definitely can't wait to vacate and leave. Too pricey for what you get

Yelp
Yikes- had the worst tour I've ever been on. The staff member who gave me a tour (alexandria) was horrifically rude to me, rolling her eyes and not offering ANY information. She was texting someone the whole time, threw a couple pamphlets at me until I finally just said we could just end the horrific tour and then she promptly dumped me out some weird side exit to leave me to find me way back to the front. I asked to be shown a few specific things (dog park, gym) and she told me I could see photos online. I live 10 hours away and have an extremely short amount of time to find a place and was super disappointed to be treated like that. Would not recommend even stopping by, what a waste of time.

Yelp
Hello Yelpers! I assume you're checking out very fancy apartments all over Nashville and a friend or web search landed you here; Well I am glad because you have come to the right place!I love the melrose for many reasons including the obvious like the beautiful attention to detail, Cozy yet Urban Berry Hill Location as well as it's beautiful statement sign visible to all of Nashville off the interstate. I can't include this mini list without mentioning Cinema and the local people. I was born in Nashville and grew up in Brentwood, then flew to San Francisco after collage to experience all the spices of imported and home grown American culture. The Melrose lays in the epicenter of what I like to call the new young Nashville. This is essentially ground zero for young talented men and women from all over the world to collide with wealthy professional business entrepreneurs and make more magic happen. Before we get too pretentious with the reality of the fabulously and early adulthood polish that this new luxury apartment will provide; I'd also love to add my personal joy in living with the community of southern Nashville and the beauty in how the two have intertwined not through things like misunderstandings and crime like some areas of East Nashville it must be stated that I feel completely safe walking to all of my favorite stores and my dog at night. The Downsides: Rent is for people who can afford it usually young professionals. Do your fair share of comparisons and you will feel even better about signing your lease knowing you got a great deal. The Melrose is a new building completely which is great due to all the new appliances and that fresh paint smell but not so great when your senses are overwhelmed with fire alarms and a sawdust smell from backed construction. It is of course a work in progress but luckily for these readers it is a nearly completed venture when summon the courage today to pick up the phone and tour one of many units or go with your gut and pull the trigger, especially with Melrose's fantastic pool and indoor atrium views of a gorgeous common area, glass fenced in pool and it's very own Movie Theatre! After speaking with Allison, or Sandy and viewing the seemingly unlimited choices of units you will be taken aback and proud to call The Melrose Nashville your perfect new home with more than could have ever imagined Now immerse yourself in your new home and explore the this gorgeously solid foundation on which to build the rest of your @

Yelp
I love living in this location. Berry Hill can give you the small town feel in a big city. The modern lighting and decor inside the units is fabulous. I also love the gym and common area open to all the tenants. The reason i gave it four stars instead of 5 is because the parking is a total mess and the gate is broken. Kim and Sandy who work in the office are the reason i didnt give it a 3 for the construction mess the first year and again the Parking! These ladies are absolutely fabulous and quickly felt like family. The maintenence team has always been fantastic as well. Come check them out, but book wayyy in advance as they are usually full. I have lived here almost 2 years and am very pleased with my decision to settle at The Melrose.

Yelp
This place is way over-priced for what you get. There is always a problem with parking as they do not have enough parking spots available. It is not very kid/children friendly place. The old management team of Sandy, Robby & Allison were great but once the place sold and they left, the new management doesn't treat you like a person anymore, your treated like a number (whatever your monthly rent is) is the level of "respect" and assistance you get.

Yelp
I had a bad experience at the Melrose. I've been putting off writing this for a while, but I just don't want anyone to make the mistake of living here. It's horrible. Don't ever do it. The front office is the WORST. They never answer the phone unless you threaten them. I'm the 3rd person I know who moved out because it was so bad...and one of my friends is having to get a lawyer because they are so bad. My friend's apartment flooded and they forced her to leave with no compensation. We talked to a construction worker who was fixing her place and he said it happens once a year when it gets cold because the complex is too cheap to get good pipes. Also parking is the worst. I could never find a spot. One time there were no spots in the lot (because they NEVER enforce parking) and I got a ticket for parking on one of the lanes behind like 4 other people doing the same thing because we had no where else to park in our own lot. Infuriating. Lastly, when I moved out, my movers had one of my boxes propping open the door so they could carry stuff out and one of the managers KICKED MY BOX. They stood up for me and told him it wasn't right of him to do that, and the manager got mad even though HE was in the wrong. Thank goodness he didn't break anything so I didn't have to press charges. Regardless, don't make the mistake of moving here. There's some sketchy stuff going on there. It's not as good as it looks.

Yelp
A happy update to my previous review: Management has changed at the Melrose! The property was bought by a new company. I have nothing but good things to say about the new office staff. They are responsive and genuinely concerned about the residents. It's a pleasure to live here now. Highly recommend.

Yelp
So I'm a very real guy and I'm extremely blunt and I gave The Melrose in Berry Hill 5 Stars because it's very modern & is the most luxurious low key best location for me I love that it has a awesome Leasing Management team as well as top notch amenities. They have granite countertops, Wood or Concrete floors , Track lighting stainless steel appliances and waterfalls and gas grills in every building! Yes every damn building has a grill and waterfall! Now here's what I really like the movie theater which has Apple TV as well the workout facility yet they have a cappuccino machine fitness room and punching bag and a awesome view and saltwater swimming pool and fire pit. What really takes the cake for me is it's located above awesome restaurants and it's by everything the car wash grocery store ! Tire shops sushi place craft beer place (Sinema,Sutler,Fenwicks, B&C, Coy, ML Rose) just to name a few and it's one minute from 12 South and Zaines and it's rightly located Downtown. The community is high class and artsy the parking is perfect because everyone had a registered parking spot now and it's a secure place because it's gated and theirs a Police Officer on Site who parks right in front. I have 2 condos one here and one outside of downtown and The Melrose is way better I live in the Uptown floor plan and it's layed out next I'm going to upgrade to a Regent floor plan in 3 months for a small transfer fee because one wasn't available and I had to live here love this place for real, which I like a lot because I can live all over the Melrose on any floor when ones available that is. The ladies in the Leasing office are extremely Professional and the community is always having fun everyone is so happy here! I would 100% recommend this place Sincerely, Justin

Yelp
I moved into the Melrose when it first opened. I loved living there and my apartment was in a great location. However two months into living there I started experiencing mold issues. After getting repeated sinus infections (3 in 4 months) and finding black mold in my bathroom this past May, I had to move out. My neighbors experienced similar issues, all of which were swept under the rug. The Melrose handled the situation with zero class and respect. After being a great tenant they withheld my deposit, made me pay rent for days I wasn't able to be in the apartment due to air quality and were super disrespectful to me. I hope the person who moves in after me is aware of the issues with this apartment. The quality of amenities don't outweigh how they treat their tenants.

Mary M.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience living here. The best day of my time in Nashville was moving out of here and into a new place. The office never answers your phone calls and it is so hard to get questions answered from them. They aren't helpful at all. OH AND GET THIS. A pipe burst in my friend's room and they were forced to move out of their apartment and the office didn't pay their moving expenses after forcing them to move. When they moved, they met a maintenance guy and he said, "yeah, this happens every year. This place was built too fast and the management just won't spend the money to repair all the pipes so one bursts at least every year and ruins a few apartments." (in this case it was around 4). Parking is also horrible. It's easier to find parking on Broadway during a Preds game than here. They enforced parking twice during my year here, so people know they can park here without a pass. When people let boyfriends and friends park in our spots, we have no spots. I legit got a ticket one time in my own parking lot that I pay for because there were zero spots so I had to park on the side of a fence. It really sucks. The maintenance people are super nice and helpful, though and it really is a cute apartment. It's just not well managed at all and it ruins it for me. 7 of my neighbors left recently because none of us can stand it here. So I urge you to look elsewhere if you're not looking for just a year-long thing. This will not be somewhere you will stay long-term.

Yelp
The new management/owners are a much needed step-up from the Temp from a staffing agency the old owner used. When the ownership changed, the property was falling into disrepair and it was very clear that the previous owners wanted to make as much in profit as they could while spending a little as possible on the property, including safety issues like repairing the gates and numerous security lights that were not burning. They also had mentally checked out--not enforcing restrictions with the pool and clubhouse, allowing non-residents to use the facilities, even though it isn't allowed in the lease agreement. Melanie, Elizabeth, and Ayla in the office have gotten everything put back together and they are managing the place in a way that will attract the type of residents they want--people who want to live in a fun, hip, trendy place with restaurants, grocery stores, and shops on site/within walking distance.

Yelp
My experience with the Melrose started in April when I was looking for an apartment for my move to Nashville in June. The place seemed amazing and more reasonably priced then other apartments I'd seen, however looks can be deceiving. At first when going they had no apartments available but luck would have it that one became available before I had to leave town. I went in was shown a similar unit by the leasing manager Sandy and before I knew it I was sitting down to fill out my application. Because I was not able to stay in town for too long I filled out my application, turned in the application fee along with the security deposit for the unit and a confirmation letter of employment. Everything was approved and the money was taken from my account about 4 days later. I contacted the office and spoke to Sandy, since I didn't receive an official approval and they assured me that everything was fine and they were excited for my move in. The next week I received an email from a leasing agent stating that my unit was not actually available because the leasing manager Sandy had already promised it to someone else. The agent then assured me that everything was fine because they had another apartment available, but it would be almost $200 more a month in rent. I told them this was not acceptable and wasn't there anything else they could do considering none of this was my fault, they did nothing. At the time I was out of the country so I had my mother call in to try and speak to Sandy, since the agent couldn't authorize any changes. Sandy ignored my mother's calls for a week always having someone say she was busy and never called back. Upon returning to the states I was able to reach Sandy after she ignored my calls for half a week because she answered the phone this time. By this time I already had the leasing agent returning my security deposit however they did not want to return the application fee. I spoke with Sandy who said she would speak to her boss about the situation and get back to me. Once again I ended up being the one to contact her and finally my application fee was returned as well. One thing that I noted despite the lack of professionalism when dealing with Sandy was her lack of apology. She knew the unit I was moving into showed me the model and still gave the unit away and did nothing to try and rectify the situation. She ignored my mother and myself and then never even apologized. When telling me what she told her boss it seemed as though she blamed the leasing agent. I don't usually do reviews but I had to warn someone else from going through the headache of having a place to none in the blink of an eye. Say no to the Melrose.

Yelp
I lived at The Melrose from May 2014 to April 2015. I am only giving this a two star review since I enjoyed my time there and never had any issues getting things fixed or questions answered. The reason for marking them to two stars has come since I've moved out. I broke my lease as I had to move back to Denver. I needed to get out of my lease a month early and went to talk to Sandy on what she could do to help me out. When we talked, she stated that since I had a one bedroom on the 3rd floor it would rent easily and she would waive the termination fee and only charge me an extra months rent. I asked if any other fees would be charged and she stated there would not be. We agreed upon this (with another person in the room), but I naively didn't request this agreement in writing. Fast forward to 7/14 (when my move out date was 4/3) and I JUST received my move out statement (which I have called and emailed to ask for at least 5 times) on which it states that my deposit was forfeited because of terminating my lease. This not only broke Tennessee renting law that states that a rental company has to return the deposit or send a statement of charges within 30 days it also broke the agreement that Sandy and I had made. Sandy stated that she mailed me my statement, but she could not give me a date and she didn't know what charges were on it (which leads me to believe there never was a statement). Three weeks ago I called requesting her to send the statement again to my work, yet nothing showed up. I finally emailed her yesterday requesting her to email the statement, and had to call her this morning again to remind her. When I spoke with her she still did not have any input on what fees were charged and she would not discuss the charges and quickly got off the phone. I am very disappointed in how I was treated by Sandy, especially since I was a good renter and always paid everything on time. My warning to everyone is not to take anyone's word on this staff and get everything in writing so you can at least have something to fight with if an issue does occur. Hopefully this will help someone else from dealing with this mess.
