The Melt

After a lackluster meal at Mel's the night before, I decided to search for a top rated location this time. I came across The Melt which was heavily favored and rightfully so. Although the location was busy, I was able to walk right up and use one of the self service kiosks to place my order. The interface was easy and helpful. I ordered a double BBQ Bacon Meltburger and a Cookies and Cream shake. Within a few minutes my order was ready and it looked great. This burger was huge, and since it cost 18 bucks, it better be! I could barely bite into this burger it was so massive. It was fantastic, so much flavor and quality meat. The shake was equally as great and helped wash down this tasty burger. The food was a little pricey, but you definitely get your money's worth. This is the perfect spot for a lunch or late night grub. Would definitely revisit if I had the chance because some of the other meals look just as good.

5 star experience for everything! Excellent customer service They missed 3 of my items and I had to wait which I didn't mind but the staff gave me a free shake for my patience which is so fun and nice Atmosphere is great outdoor and indoor seating when I went there was a parade happening outside it was fun to look at while eating the food was so good greatly recommended the spicy chicken sandwich and ranch and bacon fries and of course the cookies and cream milkshake they gave me! Tried sweet potato fries for the first time here at the melt absolutely delicious!

Stopped in for a quick lunch bite to go. This is a casual sandwich shop. Very minimal decor. White walls, concrete floor and a few tables and chairs. You could enter your order at the kiosk or directly with the cashier. I Ordered a tomato soup which was smooth and creamy and tasty. I also ordered the Italian Job which is a mushroom and cheese sandwich on a spicy garlic bread. Unfortunately the bread wasn't spicy nor garlic. I'd stop by again for the soup alone.

It was my first time trying their double meltburger, and it was really delicious! The beef patties were juicy and huge, I couldn't even finish them in one sitting, and ended up splitting them into three meals lol. Highly recommended!

The burger was generously cheesy and visually quite appealing, making for an inviting first impression. However, despite its presentation, it fell short in terms of flavor, as it lacked the depth and seasoning needed to make the overall experience truly satisfying.

We were in the area and while my friend wasn't hungry, I for sure was. At first I was concerned nothing would be open but we gave this place a try, wonderful food, crispy fries, and friendly staff would come again!

I came to The Melt because coworkers wanted to meetup before the parade back in February. I thought food was pretty good. Fresh and delicious.

Kind of a surprising lack of flavor in the Melt Original. Was just an okay burger. Expected more flavor for the amount of cheese and grease oozing off the thing. Bun was also super dry and flavorless. Would be much better if it was toasted. Overall meh.

Ej had great customer service and was really fast and efficient with my order. The food was exceptional!

The sites they make good burgers and even better grilled cheese melts has open long till 2 AM which is very very rare in San Francisco. That is a shame for a city that big but it is just what it is so you go either to melts or mel"s diner if they are open (always check before) since even the diners don't even have any 24 hour service any longer. That's it you get a good burger. They are very flexible on how you create your own burger on their kiosk terminals and they also have grilled cheese which is just so chewy full of cheese. The milkshake and the fresh lemonades are a perfect companion for a late night dinner

Passed by here for years and finally decide to try it. Tried to phone in an order, but no one answered on multiple tries. They are purely kiosk in store and online ordering. We got the bbq chicken sandwich, Cobb salad, and strawberry shake. Everything was good. The best item was the chicken sandwich. The bbq sauce was a bit sweet, so if u don't like that either see if u can order without it or get a different sandwich. The shake and salad were good, but unremarkable except for that the salad could have used some egg. Oh, we also got the Parmesan garlic fries. They were good but like many foods smelled far better than they tasted. We asked for an extra ranch for the fries and the server seemed put out but gave it to us. They were deserted on a Tuesday night around 5 and it was very quiet inside. Would try them again and recommend u give them a shot for a burger, sandwich, or salad.

Bad customer service! I would suggest "Thank you for calling the melt, how may I help you?" 2nd I work few doors down and I order from there almost every day. Ordered Spicy crispy chicken and got mission chicken which tasted bad. Never again. The bite is closer!

I can't believe this is my first time trying out the melt and there are plenty all around the Bay Area so I had to try their original Cheeseburger aka melt burger which originally is the cheeseburger with a little bit of pickles, you can add lettuce, tomatoes, and onions to it for free. My other friend got a mushroom burger and they have plenty of non meat options like mac cheese and other burgers. We got sweet potato and regular fries. Each burger comes with a huge pickle. We dined in on a Tuesday night and it was pretty busy, we sat near the bathrooms but nice and chill spot. We ordered through the kiosks. This is a pretty busy area so parking can be a bit difficult.

Came here for a quick bite while I was in the city. I got the regular cheeseburger with added onions. The burger was super messy, but man was it good. Super juicy, and the patty was massive. I also got a brownie, however the brownie was not that great. I do recommend coming here for the burger though.

I am grateful that this place is open until such late hours. Closing at 2 AM, what a blessing of convenience. It's good to know that The Melt is there. With good food, waiting to fill up hungry bellies. I prefer this location. Less traffic and commotion, normally. Plenty of seating available and a no fuss ordering system. Easy/user friendly. Meals prepared freshly and quickly. The staff are rockstars to me. One young man in particular is noteworthy. Richard delivers consistent, terrific service with good vibes and a friendly smile. Much appreciated. I ordered a MacDaddy. A grilled cheese sandwich on sourdough, topped with mac & cheese and smoked bacon. The sandwich tasted way better than I was expecting, and it was quite large. It hit the spot, and so did the Caesar salad and creamy, delicious tomato soup. All good!!

One of the very very few food establishments open late in downtown SF. Despite the late hours, the restaurant is clean, well-lit and feels safe even at night. We stopped by for a late night snack - bacon & cheese fries and tomato soup - and both were delicious. Very flavorful and sizable servings for less than $6 each.

I had heard of this place from all my California friends and decided to give a try for dinner one night! I opted for to go through the app which was great because the restaurant had my order ready immediately when I got there I just got a classic burger with the garlic parm fries and overall this is a great and classic burger joint! Well priced especially with app where you get a freebie on your first order. Delicious burger and good portions. I kind of wish I had opted for regular fries as the garlic ones were a little overwhelming but overall great. I could see some awesome dine in service or as a quick option for lunch!

I'm a 3 minute walk away. Before I leave my work building I place an order on yelp and by the time I get there it's being bagged up. The customer service has always been great here. I used to love the mushroom and spinach burger my absolute favorite. I've tried other things and never liked it as much. The chicken sandwich was horrible in my opinion but the burgers are good. Well tonight I was feeling sad so wanted something more comforting. I got the BBQ bacon burger and idk if I was hungry or if this burger was made to PERFECTION tonight. The seasoning was on point. The sauce was good. The bacon was just a bit too much for me and wasn't crispy enough for my liking so next time I'll just ask them to make bacon crisper or have it on the side I had way too much bacon I put the rest on my fries.

this is truly THE MELT. since i was around Embarcadero, I yelped nearest food, and with a 60 degree weather, a melt w tomato soup was the vibe in SF you can order in front w cashier, or kiosks. i opted for kiosks. although i got that melt, my boy got a double burger w garlic fries. we both approve: its a perfect score. ps: check in for a free shake. the staff is awesome!

There are two Melt locations quite near each other in Market street. Probably because there's not much else there. The basic sandwich is excellent, and even if I just want fries and a shake, it's a nice visit. Kinda pricey, but it's probably what you want when wandering around Market Street after midnight, which is the only time I visit.

Absolutely loved the Mac n Cheese at The Melt. It was really creamy with a crusty layer on top that I really enjoyed. Ambience is hip and pretty laid back. Friendly staff as well with quick service!

We vacationed in San Francisco in late July (yes, I'm averaging 5 months to write a Yelp review) and we flew in early and were unable to check into our hotel so we left our luggage and took off on feet to kill some time. We walked around for several hours but upon getting hungry we decided to head back to The Melt as we'd passed it earlier when it was closed and the menu looked good. Yelp reviews were also positive. Once again, Yelp came through! The cashier was so positive and nice. She knew it was our first time and explained the concept. I asked what she recommended and she gave me a few options, one of which we went with. My honey ordered the Original Melt Burger. She asked if we wanted lettuce, tomato and onion which he did. I ordered the Steak and Cheese melt (her recommendation), fries and we got a fountain drink. The interior was pretty clean. I liked the setup, decor and music. The fountain drinks were from a local company and we went with the rootbeer which was really good and better than the famous canned rootbeer. The food didn't take long and came out on metal trays. The sandwiches also came with a pickle (yes)! We both took a bite and were so pleased. Meat was seasoned well, nice and juicy, and the veggies were cool and crisp. I liked the peppers and jalepenos on mine. We switched to try each others and again we both really liked them. We honestly couldn't decide which one we liked more. We raved about this restaurant all day and even went back the next day after my guy's son arrived in the city to join us on our vacation. It was a different location, much closer to our hotel, but just as good. Nice that the quality was the same from place to place. We enjoyed our vacation to the city (it was our first time) and still to this day talk about those burgers and melts. Don't sleep on this place!

This place offered a late night bite to eat when we had very few options in the area. Grateful for that! The service could have been more organized but the food was good. Burger, fries and tasty shakes. Definitely don't forget the shake

I love that they're open until 2am. I wish more places in SF has that kind of hours. I always get the Italian Job with the tomato soup. If I'm extra hungry or craving something junkier, I get the garlic fries too. Both the sandwich and the fries dip well in the soup. I do wish there's more mushroom in the sandwich, since that's sort of the point of it; sometimes the quantity is a bit inconsistent. The one star off is mainly for the awful wait times when I went in person. It seems like they prioritize online delivery orders, so folks who order privately (online or in-person) wait a lot longer. After a few times of standing around endlessly for relatively simple orders, I now order delivery even though I live pretty close by; it just seems a lot faster. Maybe those few times were the exceptions, hopefully they're less understaffed now. All in all, it's a great comfortable option, especially after 9pm. I'll be a regular for a long time.

It's my first time to try The Melt and it didn't disappoint me. The food is really outstanding and delicious. Steak and cheese grilled sandwich. The service is efficient, ambiance is clean. I will come back again.

Delicious burgers and now spicy cx sandwiches!? Hook me up for life. Nice clean store, had a double meltburger, overcooked, but still juicy. I really enjoyed my first visit to the SF location, and will make this spot my regular joint for a juicy burger during the workday.

Definitely my late night come to. Place is clean, staff are friendly and service is quick. I haven't tried their full menu, yet. But so far I've only had the Mac Daddy & it's really good, I really appreciate the pickle that comes with it, I'm a pickle head.

Absolutely delicious, it's best to share a double BBQ bacon cheeseburger so you can get bacon cheese ranch fries and a milkshake!

This place is actually pretty good. The food is pretty high quality and tasty. Service is the automated kiosks that take your order but it comes out pretty fast. Ambiance was pretty quiet when I got there. They have large windows so you can see people walking in the street. On the flip side, they can also see you chowing down on your meal overall a pretty good place to come if you're in the financial district and don't want to spend too much money.

I want to say first and foremost I did not eat anything here nor did I dine in. But I have to give these guys 5 star review on account of how kind they were to my dog Shiloh and I. I was visiting SF and went for a very overzealous walk with my old dog Shiloh. I realized she was slowing down and I forgot to pack water. The melt was the only place open, I asked if I could buy a water bottle or something and get a cup for my dog. Without hesitation the guy behind the counter gave me a perfect little cup for Shiloh and I filled it - no charge. Will definitely be coming back when I'm hungry!

The service was so bad. Cashier was not coherent. We still received the wrong order after me catching the glaring error the first time. Not like they used to be when they were located at embarcadero center. Since COVID, it is very important to practice food safety (wear gloves when handling food, don't touch food when handling cash). This store did not. I will not come back to this location EVER!!! My true rating is ZERO for the young man at the cash register. Just sad

The bacon cheeseburger is one of the best I've had, and you can't go wrong with it! It feels like any other fast food place, with electronic kiosks, and self service drinks. However, the food is better for sure!

Some of the best sweet potato fries I have ever had! The melt sauce on the original grilled chicken sandwich is killer, and I tried some of my partners burger that had BBQ sauce and egg and it was also so good!! We might have to order takeout from here again before we head back home!!

Asked for a double kids burger and they came to deliver awesome staff awesome customer service shouts out to Alice for making it happen burger was 10/10 I wanted pepper jack and Jalapeno mix and boy did they go above and beyond for me. Tables were clean lots of places to sit and the outside seating area was a plus. All in all 11/10 I highly recommend this place.

Crispy chicken was so good the sauce blend well compliment the taste. Bacon fries was a bomb. Friendly staff and helpull.

Reasonable prices, quick service, and delicious food - all great aspects of a restaurant! I tried the meltburger and a side of parmesan garlic fries, which were filling and great for lunch. The meltburger has melted cheese through the burger with jalapeños for a perfect salty and slightly spicy burger. The parmesan garlic fries had slightly melted shredded parmesan cheese and so much garlic, which is exactly what I'm always looking for with parmesan garlic fries. Plus, having a pickle on the side helped cut the heaviness of the meal. Post-meal, I was very full and am looking forward to trying more menu items here in the future!

Never received my order unfortunately. Very disappointed. Hopefully, I can request for an refund.

This was my first time at The Melt. Janeka was amazing! She had high energy and was super helpful offering suggestions on what to order and answering lots of questions. Could tell she loves her job and was having fun. She even gave us directions to a place close by to eat outside upon our request for an open air location to take advantage of the fantastic weather. Ended up ordering a burger with avocado, bacon, caramelized onions and melt sauce with no cheese ( so also got rid of the "mix" that was referenced on the menu as part of the burger). And, ordered the cookies and cream shake. Burger was fantastic and as others have said, it's a lot of burger .... You will not be hungry after and may not be able to finish. Sadly, there was cheese on my burger but still 5* because Janeka was great and I ate it anyway. Next time I'll check before I leave :) Shake was also fantastic. Highly recommend you eat here when in the area.

This place is terrific, and maybe only missing the elusive last star because I simply come here so often! Not really a dud on this menu! I usually stick to the BBQ bacon cheeseburger because it is really flavorful and at a great price point, but I'll also get the swiss mushroom burger or a plussed up grilled cheese at times. The fries are really tasty and it's generally pretty easy to get an order in after you've beat the learning curve of the kiosks they use inside. The service is generally pretty fast and the price point is really reasonable. It's a fast casual joint so the interior is pretty minimalist but the idea is to grab and go anyway, right? Thanks for the calories, Melt!

This was a solid burger spot. I would return. I wasn't SUPER impressed but prices were decent for the city and it's open late. If the burger (patty itself) had a tad bit more seasoning/salt...it would make for a great burger. Customer service was fine, they have self service kiosks but the guy at the front gave his honest opinion about menu options which I really appreciated. He also let me sample the lemonade which was yummy. Fries were also good and the restaurant itself was clean which also aids in me being a repeat customer.

Perfect place to settle in after a night out. The service is fast the food is great for the price. We got the macdaddy, fries and a strawberry lemonade. All was good and just what we needed at that moment

I took my team of co-workers here and had a very frustrating time here. I had a tough time ordering because the cashier wasn't paying attention. I made our order, but I had to go back because it was wrong and I had to repeat myself multiple times before they finally got it right. The place was dirty and we had to clean up my own table before I could sit down. We had to wait about 20 minutes before I got my food. The patty in the burger was the driest patty I have ever eaten. The fries were hard and barely warm. Me and my buddies were all disappointed

This might be my favorite burger place of all time. I walked in late evening after work and was blown away by the burger and fries. I tried the garlic fries and it was amazing. Be warned it's a little bit on the spicy side and very fragrantly garlicky. The burger was well put together - nicely mashed and crisped beef patties, ton of cheese, nicely caramelized onions. Not too salty (I actually added some salt to the beef to taste it better). Even the fountain drink was good. Will be going back again

Burger is so juicy and flavorful. The melt is my go to place when I'm craving burgers over in the financial district. Reasonably priced, fast service, excellent burgers. Place is always clean and nice customer service. Been meaning to try there milkshakes!

First time trying this chain and whatever expectations I had were far exceeeded! The food, sure, but the friendly service was (one hunnid) The good: - the manager at the time, Janicka (best spelling I can do) went above and beyond to make me feel welcomed - come to think of it, every staff was smiley and nice and helpful - ordered the steak and cheese ($9.99) and loved it. Overflow of cheese and bell peppers (drools) I'm excited to try their patty melts next time - clean interior + outlets in places that make sense .. like at th table I'm sitting and charging my phone at now lol The meh: - nothing. Hm actually the wait was a bit long for the sandwich, like 15 mins but it wasn't that bad.
