The Melting Pot’s Plan to Modernize Fondue | Eater

"A fondue-centered chain founded in 1975 that built its reputation as a special-occasion, romantic spot where diners cook cheese, broth and chocolate at the table, it remains best known for its rich Alpine cheese blend (Gruyere, raclette and fontina with garlic and white wine) and molten chocolate dessert. In recent years the brand has been pursuing a twofold evolution: modernizing dining rooms (bright, open spaces with large group tables, exposed brick, canary banquettes and tabletop outlets) and expanding the menu and tabletop offerings (cast-iron grill pans for searing meats, rosemary-scented fries, Buffalo cauliflower, fried green tomatoes and teriyaki-drizzled potstickers). Because it is franchised, updates vary by location—some outposts retain the older, cozier booths and patterned 1990s décor that loyalists prefer—yet franchisees who invested in renovations have seen significant sales gains. The company has also pushed to make the experience more everyday by selling fondue mixes through grocery channels and offering incentives for new franchise openings, even as the pandemic underscored how uniquely experiential the dine-in fondue format is. Despite the brand’s attempts to broaden appeal, the core product endures: the table-side fondue and chocolate pots remain the delicious, theatrical centerpiece that keeps customers coming back." - Amy McCarthy

Need inspiration for what you want for dinner? Can't agree on what kind of food to go out for? Want Chinese food with a side of French fries? Try the Melting Pot! It's got it all! I went for Chinese and an IPA tonight, and maybe tomorrow I'll go back for Italian, or a burger! Cheers!

Great variety of dishes, good kid options, friendly staff. We have never been disappointed! Love dining in. We frequently get Chinese food to go too. Food is thoughtfully packed and generous.

Google
Most of the time this place is spot on and very good food. The other night we waited over an hour after we ordered, at least when it came out was still hot. Yes we could have left, but most places were already closed. We'd ate at Trails Restaurant few nights before and had the same experience, maybe it's the same cook (joke).

Good food and good service here.

Small town atmosphere serving American, Italian, Mexican, and Chinese dishes (Melting Pot) Went on a Sunday evening and a small staff did a good job with 20+ customers.

The waitress here is the best waitress I’ve ever seen. She remembers my order and she’s fast and so helpful, no matter how busy!

It's really good! I was a skeptical at first as having that much variety sometimes means the quality can lack. I was wrong! The shrimp and chicken fajitas are my favorite, my kids love the fried rice, Mexican rice and pasta. My husband likes it all, not one complaint from a variety of dishes.

Had the seafood risotto. Not risotto rice but good and well seasoned. For dessert, I had the flan that was done in house. Light and tasty. Overall good experience.

Yelp
This is one of those places where the food tastes SO much better than it looks. My first time here, I ordered the pasta with chicken broth. It was delicious. The next day, I just had to go back, and this time I had a lunch special: Chow mein, fried rice, and sweet and sour chicken were included in that. It tasted WAY better than the Chinese food you get at the usual chain places. I highly recommend you visit this place if you like tasty food, especially along the lines of pasta or Chinese food. I believe their Mexican food tastes great as well, but I did not try it. There are plenty of places to sit and the waitress lady was so nice; I had some wonderful conversations with her.

Yelp
Very good Chinese food. Wide range of items on the menu. Service was good and would definitely come back again

Yelp
Good food. Pricey but good portions for sharing or leftovers! This is an interesting mix of Italian, Mexican and Chinese...as well as some typical American fare.

Yelp
Very good food and great service. Drove through town and was surprised at the options and they were really good.

Yelp
What a pleasant surprise! My wife and I are driving through Grangeville, Idaho, and need to find a place to eat dinner. The few Yelp reviews for The Melting Pot intrigued us, so in we went. My first impression is that this is one of those small town restaurants that takes me back to my childhood. Dark paneling on the walls, booths with big padded bench seats, and a radio playing 70's rock in the background. There is even a bead curtain divider into the hallway that leads to the restroom. Before we are even seated, I whisper to my wife, "I love this place!" But nevermind the decor, let's get on with the food. It's hard to imagine one kitchen that can turn out Italian, Chinese, and Mexican food (and burgers too), and then do it well. I'm happy to say that The Melting Pot appears to pull it off. My wife had a delicious Italian pesto dish, and I got Mongolian Chicken, which was also really good. I ordered it with a Spicy level of "Hot" (the choices were: Mild, Medium, and Hot), and it was not at all too spicy, but rather had a light kick to it. The veggies tasted fresh, and the chicken was cooked perfectly tender. It was an awesome dinner. The place is clean, the service is great, and the food was really good! What more can you ask for! I'd like to go back someday, so that we can try other dishes, since the menu was pretty big. ========== I have the worst thesaurus in the world. It is awful. In fact, it's awful.

Yelp
I was hesitant with the tge combinations of food available. We got sweet and sour chicken with chow mein and honestly some of the best I had. Chicken was very good, not poor quality meat or questionable. Service was very quick.

Yelp
I wished that they served breakfast. The place needs to be cleaned up. Their Chinese food is good but stay away from the Mexican food. They do have good lunch specials. Service is good depending on who you get.

Yelp
Mexican, Italian, Chinese or American, what floats your boat? Reading the menu alone is fun. Some items on the menu are not available, poached salmon for example. A sticker says everything is a Dollar more than what the menu says. So be it. Friendly service. Popular. I guess the choices in this town are limited.

Yelp
A few weeks ago, my wife and I were in town scoping out some property, and decided to stop in here for a late lunch. We were not disappointed. The food is excellent and not overpriced at all, there is a varied selection, and the staff are wonderful! At the time we stopped in, there was one server on the clock. She was fantastic...a real joy to talk to, and she took great care of us. We will definitely be coming back!

Yelp
We could not believe this place was having a slow night. The coolest food options from Chinese to Mexican to pasta dishes! The lady who took our order was all smiles and helpful as we could hardly choose from all the yummy options what do get. I finally chose Alfredo and my boyfriend got Chinese beef and broccoli. Capital A-MA-ZING! My Alfredo was basically half chicken and half pasta! No shortage of sauce and all flavor . I got full on half and enjoyed the second half the next day. Literally saying "THIS IS SO GOOD" in between every other bite. My pasta came with a nice buff garlic slice of heaven. The beef and broccoli came with rice, also no shortage of seasoning and flavor "sauce" nice to get some on the rice. I really liked that the carrots in the dish were sliced in a way that they were almost like noodles. Great touch and made the texture nice. I hope we can pass through on our roadtrip next year to try other things from the menu. So delicious and friendly staff. I'm sorry I didn't take photos but we really dug in and started to enjoy. Trust us, it's worth a visit or 100! Side note: nice clean bathrooms

Yelp
This place has better Asian food than most places in Houston , Tx . The server was so sweet, and the food was so good. I would recommend this place. I am not a local but whenever I come to Idaho this place has made the list of must visits.

Yelp
I would give this 0 if I could. When we arrived at 12:25pm there were quite a few tables already eating...we ordered 3 things off the Chinese menu and we waited 45 minutes before finally leaving. The waitress also coughed her head off almost the entire time. We are pretty patient when it comes to restaurants, we've both worked in them as cooks and servers, but that wait time was really ridiculous & the waitress only checked on us once - she apologized for it taking awhile and asked if we needed anything. I believe we ordered steamed rice, orange chicken and sweet & sour pork. Maybe they need to hire more help? Our kids were so hungry that our youngest was wanting to tantrum (she's 1.5) we left and got fast food... we will never go back and we travel here often. We were really hoping it would be a new spot to stop in & eat at regularly.

Yelp
I had low expectations of a restaurant that serves Italian, Mexican and Chinese food. I wondered how could a place do all these dishes well. The Melting Pot far exceeded my expectations! My husband and I are on a road trip to Glacier National Park and stopped in Grangeville for dinner (not much else out here). The Melting Pot was one of the very few restaurants that was open. We were greeted by a nice lady who directed us to a booth (place wasn't that busy) and then quickly handed us our menus. The menu is extensive. I was hoping this place served American dishes like a club sandwich, but that wasn't on the menu. I ordered the lamb sandwich in the Italian section of the menu, but they were out of lamb. This seems to be a pattern with me because I recently went to another restaurant that was out of lamb... Anyway, moving on... I ordered the penne pesto pasta with prawns. My husband ordered the Mongolia chicken. My husband's chicken came out first in a sizzling cast iron pan that fajitas are usually served on. I took a bite of his chicken... delicious! My pasta dish came out afterwards with a slice of toasted French bread that was buttered on both sides. The bread was yummy. It reminded me to of my childhood days of going to Sizzlers and the bread you would get with your meal. Anyway, the prawns in my pasta were cooked to perfection. The creamy pesto and pasta was delicious. If we ever drive through here again, we will stop and maybe try their Mexican dish.

Yelp
This restaurant was a pleasant surprise on our way back from Elk City! There's something for everyone, three of us had the Mexican choices and one had the Chinese but all were fresh, well prepared, and tasty! The restaurant was clean and the service was quick- it was a holiday so I got the impression they were a little surprised at business that day but the server was still friendly and quick. I'd recommend the chicken ala crema- it was really tasty- better than some I've had in Mexican only restaurants.

Yelp
The broccoli beef and fried rice I had was good. The lady I placed my pick-up order from was super-nice. I couldn't find an online menu so I got one for next time.

Yelp
We arrived ten minutes before closing and wasn't told "we're closing soon". We ordered two beef volcanos (Don't know where this name comes from) and one soup. I get mine and my friend doesn't get her soup or main dish. We wait. We wait some more. Finally we call over the waitress (who has been carrying around someone's baby for some reason) to ask what's going on. She says "there was a mistake and the cook only made one beef dish and made spicy chicken instead. Huh? How does he do that when we only ordered two of the same thing? She says we can have the chicken for free. Wtf? He hasn't even started on the second beef dish yet (6 minutes since they discovered the mistake). She asked if we'd like it to go. Well, duh. The table was so sticky that the menu was stuck to it and I almost spilled my water as it kept sticking to the table. Needless to say I don't recommend this place

Yelp
Wide verity of different food. Highly recommend their rice and beans. You won't find any better in town. Chinese dishes are great as well. Great service too!

Craig W.

Yelp
Nice lengua (tongue) burrito. My wife had a shrimp burrito and really enjoyed it. We have had Chinese food here also and it passes muster. Friendly server.

Yelp
It was ok. I won't lie, when I saw how big the menu was and the fact that they served 3 very different styles of food I was scared. I got shrimp alfredo, the shrimp was over cooked and it was extreme hot. Like from a microwave. No flavor.

Yelp
Very pleasant experience! Our server was very nice. All three members of our party ordered different cuisines (italian, chinese, and mexican) and we enjoyed every dish! A great place to stop while driving through Grangeville.

Yelp
This Mexican/American/Chinese fusion restaurant is terrific. I take my grandchildren there and everyone gets what they want with no whining!

Lisa W.

Yelp
Newer restaurant so it doesn't have many reviews, we took a chance and decided to have lunch there. What a nice surprise, they have a huge menu with Mexican,Chinese, and American food. 2 of us had Mexican, really great street tacos, homemade guacamole, good salsa and chips. The other person in our party had a Chinese combo, and said it was also very good. I am giving this place 5 stars, because there are not many restaurants in this area, and none that offer the variety of food. Also very clean and friendly staff.
