Phuket, Thailand, Dining Guide to the Food & Drink Scene | Eater

"A nearly century-old hotel that gained pop-culture notoriety from a film cameo and was sympathetically renovated in 2012 into a solid, charming midrange option; centrally located within walking distance of many of the town’s best eateries and offering good value for travelers on a budget." - Austin Bush

Booked ON ON Hotel about three weeks before my trip and I’m so glad I did. The location is unbeatable—right in the middle of Phuket Old Town’s Sunday Market. Check-in was smooth and quick, and we only waited around 5 minutes for the room. The place felt cozy with a charming antique vibe, which is exactly the hotel’s style. We were welcomed with a nice drink and shown to our room by a very friendly receptionist who explained everything.||The room was comfortable with a nice bed, basic amenities, and a spacious bathroom. I loved the vintage décor throughout the hotel. There’s also an upstairs area and a restaurant right at the entrance.||Overall, it was a really good and memorable stay. Cozy, central, and surrounded by everything you need. If you can, stay on a Sunday so you can enjoy the amazing night market right outside your door.

This hotel is in a fantastic location for all those who love good food, tourist attractions, and a bustling atmosphere.||The hotel is rather far from Phuket airport but it’s worth the taxi (which if booked on grab is only £9 ish). You are dropped off in front of an old colonial style building and greeted by hospitable receptionists who offer a welcome drink upon arrival and help make check in seamless. ||Check in is from 2pm but the team had no issue storing our bags whilst we waited (we arrived at 11 and went for some lunch and a walk and it was ready when we got back) ||The room is a nice design with a big bed and a mini fridge which was perfect for keeping some water cool which can be purchased from many nearby convenience stores. ||The bathroom is lovely but the shower is prone to flooding so ask for extra towels to place on the floor to make sure you don’t slip. The front desk are more than happy to arrange this in a timely fashion. ||They also offer a list of restaurants to try as breakfast is not available at the hotel. There are lots of other places that are cheap and with good food/service. We regularly made a return journey to One Chun restaurant for dinner which was a walk around the corner. ||The hotel is also close to attractions like monkey hill which is great if you’re up for a 8 kilometre hike up a hill in 32C with 90% humidity (make sure to bring water for this and hide all food items including water bottles from the monkeys as they will try to steal them). ||Overall this hotel is perfect for those wanting a city break with a Thai twist. Great food, great service, great location. Don’t bother with the beach whilst you’re at this hotel but instead spend your time taking in the fab Thai culture - it has a lot to offer. ||Special mention to Nathan from concierge who was helpful with all requests and bookings. ||We will be back again soon!

The Memory at On On is a wonderfully vintage hotel in the heart of Old Phuket town. When you walk in through the open hallway under the red lampions you’re immediately greeted by the radiant “Sawadee-kahs” and smiles from Penny, Jenny, Nathan and other colleagues. The hotel is like a time machine that takes you back to the rich melting pot past of Phuket with dark mother-of-pearl inlaid furniture, rooms decorated with Pernakan red or Nobel blue. There are atria with small fountains that provide an element of natural airconditioning inside and the small cafe Mem next to the entrance offers a selection of decent wines. It’s morning espresso brewed from freshly ground thai roasted cofee beans deserves a special mention. Furthermore, its location makes for a perfect beach head into everything there is to see, do and especially eat in and around the old Town.

This is a GORGEOUS property in the heart of Old Phuket Town. The design and architecture are stunning. Everywhere you look, there are beautiful historical details. The bed and pillow were incredibly comfortable - I slept so well! You're close to everything in town from here, so there are a lot of walkable options for food and shopping. It's absolutely worth a stay here!

Jenny is the best! The Memory at On On is very beautiful; it has an old world charm. Anywhere in the building could be a photoshoot and indeed every-time I left the hotel there was someone stopping to take pictures. All of the staff were amazing and kind, Penny, Annie, Alan to name a few. They helped me with all my requests and the made the children feel very special. We will definitely return.

Fantastic hotel with a lot of character and history. Staff was great and it felt like being in another era, what I imagine it would be to stay in a hotel 100 years ago. The location is perfect to explore the old town, and especially the Sunday market. Great to have the hotel in the middle of the action so you can retreat to the hotel room to rest and cool down when you need a break or the streets gets to crowded. I will for certain book this hotel if I visit Phuket town again. The charm outweighs what it might missing in facilities in modern hotels with higher star ratings.

We absolutely loved this hotel and the incredible staff that work there. Penny, Nathan, and the talented man who makes the most beautiful cappuccino (I'm sorry I am forgetting your name)—Richard, Alan—you all made our stay unforgettable. The care and love they show in their beautiful clothes, customer service, and kindness is remarkable. They all speak incredible English and were happy to help. Upon check-in, you are greeted with a cold drink in a beautiful room to complete the check-in process. The entire hotel feels like stepping back in time. The décor is elegantly done and whisks you back to the 1920s. Just past the lobby is a bar area with complimentary cookies, coffee, water, and rose water available throughout the day. Walking up the staircase to the second floor, you are welcomed by open-air sitting areas and beautiful flowers. It is truly stunning and perfect for social media pictures. Our room was also beautifully decorated. The bed was soft (Thai mattresses can be rather hard), the AC was cold, and the shower was hot. In the room, there were complimentary drinks in the fridge, as well as two bottles of water replenished daily. Coffee, tea, and a kettle were also provided. Bedside tables had electrical outlets, each bed had two pillows, and blackout curtains ensured a restful sleep. You cannot hear your neighbors. The café downstairs serves amazing coffee, croissants, and a yogurt granola bowl for breakfast. At night, I enjoyed wine and charcuterie while watching people walk by and chatting with Penny or Nathan. I stayed here with my 10-year-old son, and they always offered him treats or a special drink, which was so kind. We did not want to leave. I want to express my gratitude to the entire staff. I hope we get to see you all again. Thank you! 🙏🫶🪷

I truly loved my stay here! What stood out the most was the warm and attentive service from the hotel staff. They gave me great recommendations on must-visit places and unique local activities to try. I felt genuinely cared for throughout my stay. A special thank you to P’Nathanai for suggesting some amazing restaurants and keeping me company with great conversations 💗 The hotel itself is beautifully designed, with a unique charm that sets it apart from other places I’ve stayed. The location is also unbeatable—within walking distance to many popular restaurants and spots around town. If you’re visiting Phuket, this hotel is a must-visit. And without a doubt, I’ll be coming back here on my next trip!
