The Merchant Company

With so many overpriced vinyl stores in Portland, Merchant Company is my go to. They have an amazing selection of vinyls and the price is absolutely unmatched. Not only that but the whole store is full of cute vintage and modern items that make great gifts.

Lovely shoppe that houses multiple artists, vintage wears and records. Rotating assortment of collectibles. Found my favorite unique playing card set, made by a local artist. Always a joy to see what they have here. There is always something for everyone.

Just wow, the selection of items and the quality is of note and will have us returning here again.

Utterly delightful vintage shop with an amazing selection of vinyl records, sci-fi paperbacks, greeting cards, posters, framed artwork, fine china, crystal glasses, clothing of all kinds. I spent a very contented half hour wandering around admiring everything. Lovely staff.

My wife and I have been coming here for years when we are up in Portland. We usually find a cute little gift or card etc. when we visit. Its a quirky place but the owner is super friendly and runs a great shop. Oh and make sure to say hi to the shop dog who is an absolute sweetie!

Local cuteness and vintage inspiration combine for an absolute gem of a store in downtown Portland. There are a variety of things hidden in here that you just can't find in most stores. The vinyl selection is fantastic and the service is always great. If you need the perfect unique present, this is the place.

This was my favorite store in Portland! Lot of interesting things from antiques to gifts created by local artists. Variety of price points but I found the art prints really reasonably priced and bought a few. Would love to be able to shop online or be easily connected with online stores of artisans!

What a cute store with various merchants' goods! If locally made greeting cards, repurposed typewriter keys that can be used as wrings, and vintage typewriter sets are of interest to browse or buy, this spot has you covered. There are also women's clothes, locally made lotions, vintage records, and more. It's fun to browse here!

A variety of vintage goods, I find a treasure at each visit. Jewelry, records ceramics, linens and wall art abound. Some prices seem high.

Lovely selection of vintage goods, vinyl, and a little section of cozy handmade baby clothes and goods. The wonderful owner invited my kid to pet her sweet little dog, chatted us up, recommended some good local things to do, and just generally made us feel like welcomed friends rather than out-of-towners dropping in for the holidays. 10/10 can't wait to go back here and shop some more for nieces and nephews and some vintage for myself the next time we are in the Portland area.

My favorite store in all of Portland, hands down. A bit of vintage clothing, a good vinyl selection, and primarily a ton of handmade art, crafts, etc. all from local artists, and likely broke ones that could use your support! It's like a Buy Local two-fer. One of the cooler things in Portland are the holiday sales around Christmas were MECA grads and other artists are able to sell their works, but at the Merchant Co, it's many of the same artists but you can buy all their awesome creations year round. Wall art, magnets, very unique jewelry, clothing, screenprinted dish towels, the best card hilarious card selection, Nikki Minaj prayer candles, things you would never even think existed, they have it all, and there's usually a good soundtrack while you shop. Anytime I need a gift for someone and can't think of what, I wander around the Merchant Co. and almost always find something, and something for me, and some awesome cards. Whether you're local or visiting Portland, you're missing out if you don't stop in here on occasion.

Vintage and hand crafted goods from local vendors - it doesn't get much better than this. Imagine Portland's First Friday, and all the vendors along the street selling their wares. Then try to picture the best-of-the-best handmade offerings you've seen on the street all crammed into one spot and what you have is The Merchant Company. This spot sells all sorts of items from Mainers (and beyond, I believe). From kitchenware to clothes to reworked antique jewelry, Merchant Company is filled to the brim with quality handmade goods. The best part is, you can feel good about shopping here on multiple levels. First, you're going to find totally unique, often one of a kind gifts for any occasion (including treating yourself to a little something special). Second, you're supporting local craftspeople and giving them the opportunity to continue doing what they love. Go here often, because the goods are always changing. I always make sure to take notes on the vendors I really like. Many of them are crafting as a hobby, and are excited to take on projects if you're looking for something personalized.

Great little shop with tons of handmade stuff from local Portland designers. Really nice array of offerings including: jewelry, handmade bags, a small thrift/vintage section, LPs, and new clothing. Prices are across the board, some stuff is more reasonable and some approaches the outrageous. Lovely vibe and polite staff. Only dropping a star because I'd reached out via email about a shirt they screen print in house (I bought one, and a friend liked it and wanted one too) and never got a response. Responding to customers is always a plus :)

This is my go to place whenever I need a card or quirky gift for someone, or a treat for myself! They carry handmade crafts from local merchants and also a wonderfully curated collection of vintage goodies. The staff is made up of a group of cool hip portlanders who are friendly and eager to help. If you haven't been in yet, you should pop in and check it out!! Treat yourself!

Such a cute shop right on Congress street! Truly a well-curated collection of well-designed, fun products. They have everything from knitted scarves and hats to baby clothing, jewelry, art, cards, and bath & body products. This is a great place to pick up a gift (as I have done many times). Love!

I could go broke in here. The vintage duds are all amazing, the record corner is impressively curated and the handmade stuff is awesome. It's like someone took all the craft tables from Art Walk and crammed them in the front half of the store.
