I NEVER write reviews but I feel this is necessary. I LOVE to shop local and I LOVE to get my $$$ into women owned businesses. I also LOVE to spend money on random crap NO ONE needs, and this store is full of it. You'd think this store would be a match made in heaven for me and my $$$$$$ but unfortunately that's not the case.
The first time I went to this store it was on high recommendation from my friends. I walked in, walked to all the stalls and was checking things out, no one ever greeted me or welcomed me, which I found odd but kept trying to shop, like I said, I love buying little things I don't need, I LOVE supporting women's business. After I had been in 4 or 5 shop spots I noticed someone was sorta following me and watching me, at first I thought I was being paranoid but after she followed me for 10 more minutes, without ever introducing herself or speaking to me, yet moving closer every time I picked up an item and I realized she thought I was trying to steal things. I started walking towards the front and in the process a business owner from the Saguaro stopped her to speak to her and she identified herself as the owner. I left immediately afterwards and thought i had been profiled but also considered that maybe I was being too sensitive.
I went back a couple weeks later, same thing, wasn't greeted or smiled at, but seemed as though every not brown person was getting top notch service, I actually wanted to buy a pair of earrings out of the case but couldn't get anyone to help me so left after 15 min i left. I thought maybe, they are just working out their business model don't have enough staff, etc.
I went back today, thinking I could get a gift for a co-worker who loves crafty things, same treatment, no acknowledgement, no service, but every person before me and after me that entered the store who happened to be white was being waited on and spoken to almost immediately.
I think that there are what I hope are un-conscious biases going on and I would really encourage ownership and management to read some books on intersectionality and implement that into their business practices. I will not be back and I will spend my money at other local business.
