The Cotton Court Hotel Review | Hotels Above Par

"Tucked inside the hotel, Midnight Shift Restaurant & Bar casts aside any prairie-cuisine doubts with magnificent cocktails and sophisticated-but-casual American fare: breakfast includes bacon and an eggy Avocado Toast, and mains range from Elk Chops to Truffle Burgers. I ordered the Charred Caesar and loved it so much that I went on to devour the other two salads on the menu; Chef Kate Diehl brings real pizazz and prairie gastronomy, and the food felt like it would be a hit anywhere — it truly deserves national attention."

We just finished a two night stay at Cotton Court and were so excited to try the restaurant. The first night we had cheese curds, scallops, elk chops, and the steak and Brie melt. The appetizers were good. The entrees were lacking. The elk chops were so salty we weren’t able to eat them. However, our servers were so great and the atmosphere was fun so we decided to try again the second night. We tried different apps and entrees this time and it was a similar experience. We got the charcuterie, peach wings, the steak and the quail. The peach wings were excellent. The charcuterie was disappointing. The quail was good. The grains were served with whole peppercorn mixed in and those bites were unpleasant. The steak was again so salty that we couldn’t eat it. My husband tried the blueberry pie and enjoyed it. The menu was extremely hit or miss. Overall, the service is the only thing that would keep us coming back. James, Trent, Carolina, and Sydney were all so accommodating, kind, and fun. Five stars for service. Two stars for food.

Excellence on every level! The food is homemade with love. Drinks are made and infused with quality ingredients. Best hashbrown I’ve ever had, chopped chives and seasonings took it to another level. Thank you for such dedication to superb dining. Live bands also with a heated pool a few steps away.

This was a great place for a delicious lunch in Lubbock! This beet 🫜 salad broke my brain— I don’t like beets and I LOVED this creation!! 😋 The presentation of everyone’s food was 10/10. All of the staff were sweet and very helpful.

My husband and I went here for lunch on our anniversary. We had been here previously and enjoyed it. This time we were not even offered a drink menu when seated. We did enjoy the burgers we had for lunch. When we inquired about what the seasonal creme brûlée was we were told it was lemon. Being Fall now I might have expected something a bit different. We decided to order one to take home and enjoy later, as I had an upcoming afternoon appointment. When it was brought to us, it only filled 1/2 of a pretty small styrofoam cup that you might put a side condiment in. To say I was disappointed would be kind. I believe the dessert was at least $8 maybe more and MAYBE we could each get 2 small bites out of it. Not really worth it. I'm not sure we will be going back anytime soon.

Google
Our 1st time there and we were confused on where the entrance was. The doors off Broadway are the BACK DOORS. When you enter, go to the opposite side of the building to be seated. Menu is small and pricey. We had an order of Korean BBQ wings that were so GOOD. Then we had 2 burgers but they were salty. Our waitress was Awesome, it had a nice atmosphere, but it's not a kids place to eat.

Google
Food seems fresh and mostly tasty, somewhat limited menu but prob appropriate for a hotel restaurant. They do have live music on occasion and great tables / seats to enjoy and listen. Drinks are alright, we thought they could use some better presentation & fresher flavor options. If they would make their marg mix fresh and offer a refreshing margarita or drinks with fruits & large solid ice cubes, huge lift! Overall seemed a bit pricey for the taste but great atmosphere. Good place to sit and talk or meet friends.

Google
An absolute must! The atmosphere, staff, drinks and food are really what makes the experience so amazing. Huge shoutout to Bekah and the rest of the staff! They're not just great at what they do, they're genuinely amazing people who make you feel right at home. Our go to before a show at Buddy Holly Hall or any kind of event downtown!

Google
I’ve eaten here half a dozen times over the past year when my husband and I have stayed at the Cotton Court. The food is good, although the menu is somewhat limited. Our latest visit featured tasty but consistently too salty food. Cauliflower, a burger, and chicken wings were all over-salted - someone in the kitchen had a heavy hand with the salt tonight. But the ambience is fun and the service is always friendly and competent. Bonus: the poblano pimiento cheese on my burger was YUM.

Yelp
Great new menu! Go check it out!!! Get the po'boy for lunch and the corn fritters as an appetizer

Yelp
I ate here for breakfast. It's a neat space with mediocre, slightly overpriced food. The avocado toast plate is better than the French toast. Service was friendly, but slow. If you're staying at the Cotton Court, there is a meal voucher, but the system is kind of weird and the voucher won't fully cover your meal. You might want to explore eating breakfast somewhere else. That said, we went there for live music and a lot of people ordered drinks and appetizers to enjoy on the patio while they listened to music. They looked good, and if you're listening to music, the long wait times won't be such a big deal.

Yelp
Cheyenne, our server was absolutely darling. She has a heart of gold and works so hard. Truly made our night so wonderful. The kindness and service was incredible. Midnight shift offers a beautiful environment for casual, date night or anything! I don't even need to speak on the food, it speaks for itself, SO GOOD.

Yelp
This place gets better and better! We came here to celebrate a 4 year old birthday, we found easy parking and it was not crowded on a Monday night. The staff was super courteous, and the food was delicious. At the table we had kids grilled cheese, the midnight Texas burger, fried broccoli (astonishingly good), crispy brussels sprouts, wings, and a chicken sandwich. Everyone raved about the food. The prices are high, so come prepared for that and enjoy.

Olivia B.

Yelp
Yummy very good depth of flavor, killer sauce. Nice ambiance good view outdoor and indoor.
google avatar

Yelp
Located in the Cottonwood Court hotel, this is a tasty place for food and drinks. It has indoor and outdoor space and live music on certain days. The food portions are large so be sure to ask in advance. The service was okay when we went. I'm pretty sure we had a new waiter who was overwhelmed with many tables during dinner . It didn't bother us since we weren't in a hurry.

Yelp
While staying at the Cotton Court we went for drinks and dessert while listening to a great band! The coffee tinis were incredible!! They were out of bread pudding so opted for crème brûlée. It was perfect. Sam was a super friendly and fast waitress!

Teresa L.

Yelp
My absolute favorite is the poached egg breakfast and add roasted jalapeños. It is delicious and I look forward to eating this for breakfast every time we are here for the cotton convention. The Midnight Benny Florentine is delicious! The avocado toast is tasty too!

Deborah W.

Yelp
Went for dinner and a drink outside- ambiance is great! (No mosquitos) The food was delicious. Our table of 3 ordered a burger and a chicken sandwich. This was definitely the best burger I have ever eaten. For dessert we had a Sundae in a Mason Jar. The wait staff was awesome. Can't wait to go again tonight and try the salmon!

Yelp
My wife and I stopped in for an afternoon drink and an app before our dinner just down the road a few blocks at the West Table. They have 6 local-ish brews on tap and I enjoyed sipping on my Hefewezien. The wife liked her white sangria. The kitchen doesn't open til 5pm, so food choices were limited to Chicharrones or chips with queso. Chips and queso were ok, queso could have been served hotter. Good service from the bartender.

Lana R.

Yelp
Came here once and fell in love with the Midnight Shift Burger. It was SO AMAZING, and during my work trip, I ate it nearly every night. (shamefully) Came back on business again, and it wasn't the same!! I'm not sure what they changed about it, but it definitely did not have the same punch as I remembered it. I switched over to their Hot Honey pizza, and now THAT was delicious! I was surprised at how much I liked it. Order it! The staff at night is super friendly. During the morning though... they need help. There is not enough staff to carry the breakfast shift. Food during breakfast is okay.

Yelp
Chef Kate continues to deliver - as she did at Lubbock's Home Cafe and Gastropub. Creative dishes and professional servers. Worth a try!

Yelp
My friends and I came here to grab a drink to celebrate her graduating from college. The bartender not only took advantage of us but was very rude to us. When we walked in, we were told that last call was in 10 minutes which we didn't care about. After we ordered our drinks and received the bill, she charged us double just because we were the youngest in the bar. We were shocked that it costs $45 for 3 small drinks. Your better off going to Chimy's where they have better drinks & better service. Don't waste your time coming here.

Yelp
Wow...what a big waste of time. Wanted to buy a gift certificate based on a review from a friend that lives in Lubbock. Nice facade when you drive up to the "front" but the entrance is not clearly marked. The door closest to Broadway which should be an entrance based on parking is locked, marked "Exir". Sent around the building to enter through the hotel courtyard to inquire about a gift card. Bartender seemed put out that I came in and said that they don't sell, should go to the hotel office/desk. So, left the restaurant, walked up to the door closest to the restaurant and it was locked. Walked back around to the Broadway side, entered and asked about a gift certificate. Gentleman at the desk said "nope, online only". So while not hard to get around Lubbock, BIG waste of time. What do folks do that don't have online access. Won't be getting a GC here. DO BETTER!

Sayre C.

Yelp
I love midnight shift , I love the servers and every time I come in I leave in a good mood. 10/10 recommend the chicken sandwich.
google avatar

Hillary B.

Yelp
So.... this review is based on drinks and dessert. The drinks are "okay." We had the Chilton, Chilton Plus, and a Horned Toad. None were great. We had just come from Double Nickel and had some amazing Chiltons, so maybe that hurt our pallets. We also had the Apple Skillet Cake. Our server said this was his favorite, but unfortunately it tasted like a boxed mix, with some fresh apple thrown in, topped with blue bell ice cream. The environment of the place is awesome, but the food and drinks are subpar.

Yelp
OK, so I usually write my thoughts while I am in the restaurant.... not tonight!!!! The hospitality fri people O don't know took the direction in a different path. This is a incredible place for everyone. Smile at the door from from Avery to the two top BARTENDERS in Lubbock TX . Morgan and Amber. They serve more the cocktails.... They serve KINDNESS. Food was fantastic.... try the Salmon or Tomahawk.... Sean the bar manager delivers a true TEXAS CARING experience... try it ........ seriously try it. Mr Chef great job even i didn't get your name.

Yelp
We ended up here by accident after a very long day traveling to Lubbock. Very limited bar type food menu . The cheeseburger and fries were good and so was the service.
google avatar

Donna D.

Yelp
Lively bar, live music, great service from Connor! We got three entrees--pork chop, flank steak with chimichurri sauce and double cheeseburger. Everything was fresh, well seasoned and presented beautifully. I had the pork and was very pleased with it--meat temperature was perfect (it can be easy to overcook pork). Great upscale, but not fussy, dinner spot in LBK.
google avatar

Yelp
Great atmosphere! Quality food! Friendly staff! A great experience. Highly recommend coming here. I must say I've never been impressed with chicken tenders, but these were huge and fried to perfection. We also got the bacon cheeseburger which you can't go wrong with. The queso was thick and creamy.

Yelp
Thursday 2-4 is puppy hour with dog wine, live music, and vendors! The head bartender has pups and loves to see your pups! The hotel is dog friendly as well!

Yelp
We went here last Friday night and were pleasantly surprised by how great it was. Sitting on the patio was perfect vibes. There was a live band that was SO GOOD; solid range of covers and multiple vocalists to cover the spectrum. For food we had the charcuterie board and the wings. The charcuterie board looks kind of disappointing when it comes out. The portions seem small and it looks fairly basic. But the quality was the game changer. Everything was so fresh; pro tip: whatever herb garnish you get, strip the fresh herbs off the stem and into the honey, pairs great with the brie. The wings were legit some of the best I've had recently. They weren't tiny and tough like most places have right now. All the wings were big and perfectly cooked. The cilantro ranch complimented the glaze so well. For cocktails we had an Aperol Spritz, the French 75, and a Watermelon Booty. All of them were great, zero complaints. We will definitely be back.

Madie K.

Yelp
Service was great. Espresso martini was not good at all. Brussel sprouts appetizer was extremely salty. The burger was pretty good and the hot honey sausage pizza was okay. Live music was fun! Just not at all worth the price. The old menu was much better.

Yelp
LOVE THIS PLACE! The food is amazing and the vibe is on point! It's a little pricey but totally worth it. Easily one of the coolest places in Lubbock

Yelp
I've eaten here three times this week. The Old Fashioned is one of the best I've ever had. The pork ribs and the short rib were both absolutely delicious and I look forward to trying these again. The first night, I had the shishito peppers, which were not my favorite, but in speaking with the chef on the third night, I advised that I did not like them on the first night. He came out with a fresh batch, which I tried, and they were quite good! The service has been excellent, even when they have been quite busy. Both the interior and outdoor settings are a nice treat after a long work day, and the live music last night was an additional treat.

Yelp
Just to be clear, this review does not reflect on the Cotton Court but just the Midnight Shift. I love staying at the cotton Court when I'm in town but the bar/restaurant is just terrible. There is always something wrong when I go in there. I stopped ordering food in there because the 1st time it was the shrimp appetizer that gave me food poisoning. The 2nd time I watched as the bartender poured TX whiskey instead of Woodford, likely because they were running low on woodford, and then argued about what I saw them do. I don't know if they thought I was drunk and thought they could pull one over on me but I wound up walking away only paying enough cash to cover my first drink. Tonight I asked if I could eat my food as long as I ordered my booze from them and was told it wouldn't be a problem. But once I sat down I ordered a bourbon and while I was waiting I was told I couldn't eat in there. So once again I had to walk out with out a drink. It just seems like there's no leadership, there hasn't been focused customer service training, and I'm just not sure the food handling practices are up to par.

Yelp
This place is honestly a gem of Lubbock. The vibes are immaculate. There was live classic rock by a really great band with Mark, Darren, Brian and Mark. (Management bring them back again and again). Kitchen closes at 10 and it's busy so be here by like 9:15. Lots of local beers on draft too. Props to the chefs-the Brown Butter Cauliflower is deceptively simple on the menu. It was gone between the two of us in a minute. SO GOOD. literally one of the best things Bacon cheeseburger and pork fried rice are so yummy. Did not survive dinner to become leftovers. We also got the Brussels sprouts. One of the best ways to prepare them for picky eaters. Really wish that we got dessert but we were so full! Will definitely be back.
google avatar

Kelsey E.

Yelp
Delicious loved the venue and vibe! Would recommend to all! Casual, date night, family fun, and anyone else!
google avatar

Jennifer H.

Yelp
Trendy and fun vibes. The food was good. The price was super high and the menu was limited.
google avatar

Lisa S.

Yelp
They're getting a star for the ambiance, and entertainment. The food was garbage. I realize this is Wet Texas, but don't put poutine on menu if you don't have cheese curds. Don't substitute a cut up piece of mozzarella string cheese. If you have kids, you'll know that texture anywhere. A hot piece of rotisserie roasted chicken does not pair well with Caesar salad especially when the dressing has been on the salad so long it has made the croutons chewy. My water was never refilled. When I was offered something else to eat, I opted to go home and eat leftovers.
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
Delicious cocktails, delicious food, and great bartender service! I've had a burger, poutine, and chicken tacos here and they've all been really good. I had a fresh cucumber chilton the other night and that was AMAZING. Great place for a quick bite, quick drink, or even date night! I'll be back!
google avatar

Mya B.

Yelp
The food was ok, but the grilled cheese was super greasy. We also got poutine, which was the best thing he had. The service was not good either, it was very slow and they sent us the wrong drinks.

Mike S.

Yelp
Sat down inside just a little before the kitchen closed. We were told by 3 different staff that the kitchen would be closing, but the bar would still be open. We ordered our drinks which were delivered (btw- an old fashioned should have one large solid ice cube as regular ice melts and waters down the drink. Additionally, don't put that cherry below the ice, we want access). The biggest disappointment was the staff member (not our waitress) that took our drink menu and told us that we would have to get further drinks from the bar (the one with 3 dozen cowboys blocking it). Our waitress told us that it was not true and that she had notified the manager, but our experience was already ruined. We opted to spend further money elsewhere.

Yelp
Midnight Shift is on the Cotton Court hotel property and you can access it from the courtyard. It's got a great vibe. They have put a lot of thought into the food and drinks menu, each dish or drink seems to have a special touch. The food is quality and the servings are hearty. The salmon was fresh and the cut was thick like a steak and cooked perfectly - for me, medium rare. My husband tried the fried short ribs - they were rich and flavorful. If you're a fan of Brussels sprouts, you should try their unique take on this dish as a starter or side dish. The mixologist has been doing his trade for 30 years and created a custom cocktail menu. This is no ordinary cocktail experience. All of his juices and Irish cream, etc are house made. My husband says the martinis are consistently the smoothest ones in town, but I encourage you to stray from your "go to" drink to explore the cocktail menu and beer options. The bartenders are friendly and the service was excellent. They've been open several weeks and this was our second visit. We expected some challenges in their processes as they worked some things out opening weekend, but they knocked it out of the park both times. If you have visitors in town or just want a date night or to have drinks and break bread with friends, dress up, dress down, this is a great place to go for a unique west Texas experience. The Cotton Court hotel is also a great place to stay. But even if you don't book a room, the outdoor courtyard and live music on weekends is worth checking out.
google avatar

Mike W.

Yelp
Been 4 times and all 4 times I have been unhappy! Service has always been a big problem and I see no improvements. I only go when certain friends are playing music and no other time, cause I don't want to spend an evening mad.
google avatar

Cheryl H.

Yelp
It was our first time to visit the Midnight Shift. We were looking forward to a great evening of live music, but when we arrived we couldn't be seated. That's ok. We we're seated after a short wait at a great table but needed an extra chair. The wait staff said, "no problem!" It turned into a problem when we finally added a chair on our own, only to have the wait staff come tell me he needed that chair at another table. We ended up getting a chair from the patio on our own for our additional guest. Got a few side eyed glances from the staff... none of these things are a big deal, but all together were annoyances. Maybe re training staff in great customer service would help. Fortunately, the band was really good so we will return again if they book the Ninja Cowboys again!
google avatar

Ama O.

Yelp
Connor was great! The french fries, the wings, the street corn! Oh my! The burgers, the salmon delicious!! Run din't walk! Delish!
google avatar

Jill F.

Yelp
First thing, the tables and seats need to be cleaned/wiped down much better. Came 1:30pm on Christmas Eve. Mimosa and Roberts porter beer, excellent! Ordered Fish tacos and Smoked chicken tacos. They hen stated Fish was out, so Robert ordered pork tacos. He didn't comment but he seemed a little disappointed. My smoked chicken had Amazing flavor. Three small tacos each, it wasn't really enough. That's all I really have to complain about. Service was good. They just need to clean and add to the taco plates. We will be back. The chicken tenders and hamburgers looked huge but were $14 plates.

Jeff R.

Yelp
Nothing to write home about. With such a small selection you would think they could do better. Very pricey for what you get.
google avatar

Jill C.

Yelp
I have only been to the bar and shared nachos with a friend and they were fantastic! The bartender, Becca, was great! She makes a great drink and was really nice! I want to go back for dinner!!

Jeff K.

Yelp
Drinks were expensive, but very good. Charged them to our room and the bill was WAY more than it should have been for our 4 drinks. Still have not been able to get anyone to send us an itemized receipt from the hotel or bar.

P B.

Yelp
Last evening February 4, was the first time that I went to this establishment. We had drinks before we attended an annual event. Drinks were affordable and the establishment was clean and busy.
google avatar

Sabrina V.

Yelp
This is a must try place if you come to Lubbock to visit or you live here or come for college. Its a super cute restaurant with a bar and an outside eating area. Its located within a hotel, so there isnt much parking but its a good place to visit. The food is really good and averaged price, the place is pretty crowded on Fridays or Saturdays and they had a live band outside the restaurant. The waiters were kind of slow and not as attentive as I would have liked them too, but they did the best they could.

AA R.

Yelp
Drinks good. Chili bad. Salad good. Beer selection weak. Atmosphere decent. Neighborhood downtown. Service average.
google avatar

Alex M.

Yelp
Solid selection of signature cocktails, with a fair amount of beer on tap as well. If you're looking for filling pub food, this will do. It's located in a beautiful courtyard attached to a hotel, and at night it was a very relaxing appeal.
google avatar

Alexis R.

Yelp
Gosh such a cool place connected to the cotton court hotel BUT this was our second time and it's pretty underwhelming. I know these are hard time and I will come back and give them another chance but I think the menu needs a re-vamp! The drinks were good! I got pork tacos this time they were pretty bad. Also they come with no sides so that kind of sucks it would be nice to have a side of rice or something. Hoping it gets better!!!
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
In love with this dining option! Find it next to The Cotton Court Hotel. The Go To for cocktails and outdoor dining - indoor available as well. Another great option if you need some gluten free options- be considerate and ask if Chef has recommendations to accommodate you- a re-create of pork fried rice without the soy sauce and offered rice crackers on the Charcuterie. So thankful for end of travel day kindness!!
google avatar

Amy P.

Yelp
Our new favorite spot in town for cocktails and appetizers! Have loved their selection of live music acts. This place will be on repeat for us!!

Yelp
Midnight shift was a great date night place. The atmosphere was really really cool. The main entree was a little pricey for what it was but the drinks tasted amazing. Overall, we had a great time and will come back!
