20 Spots to Get an Excellent Cocktail in the Bay Area This Summer | Eater

"If any San Francisco spot had the energy and creativity to thrive during this era of social distancing, it would be The Midway, as its enormous space in the Dogpatch allows for tons of safe seating. DJs and artists frequently perform outdoors; grab a table and enjoy small bites with enticing, summer-friendly cocktails like the Frojito." - Vox Creative

Great venue! I love that they have 3 bars and all bars are equipped with a water faucet and cups for self-serve water. Bathrooms were well stocked, though there was vomit in two of the stalls that I used. Getting inside was quick and staff was organized. Come early for parking as it's limited.

Decent size venue. Love the patio area. Lots of parking and you don't have to pay for it. Bar didn't have mixers.

This five star review is for the security guards that worked last Saturday. The establishment was great. I had a blast. Unfortunately apparently I had too much fun where I was extremely intoxicated and I just wanted to get home. I asked for security to help And they immediately without hesitation, jumped into action. I felt safe and secure and they made sure I was ok and got home safely. wish I was able to get their names. They were amazing. They definitely deserve a raise. thank you security guards!!!

Came here to see Horsegirl with some friends. It was amazing! The bartenders worked fast and effectively. The bathroom was huge, so the lines went by fast. The sound was amazing. My friends and I enjoyed the lighting as well. I'm excited to come to other shows here.

One of my favorite dance spots in the bay. There’s so much room to dance and have a good time. Highly recommend if you have a DJ coming to town, checkout if they are coming to the Midway 🔥

Love this venue for year round for shows (I go just for the music related shows or weekend long festivals. Many stages, indoor & outdoor, food, drinks and plenty of space. Very friendly staff, you’ll feel safe here with tons of security on their A game. Always really impressed by this space and by far my favorite venue in the city.

Yelp
I would've given this place a better rating if it wasn't so dark in there. I could barely see where I was walking at times. Also, I had to take off my belt before going in. They should state what kind of attire & accessories aren't allowed in the venue on their site. I wouldn't have worn my chain belt if I knew that it'd be considered a weapon. They should state that on their website. My friend thinks that security was messing with me. I saw one lady with a wimi belt on but her belt was a lot smaller than mine was. Hopefully that wasn't the case. If they were actually trying to eff with me, then hopefully they'll get found out & fired as that's fucked up & they shouldn't be allowed to do that as that's harassment. The guy working security said that it's considered a weapon & that it needed to get taken off for the security of the bands. I had to stuff it in my purse. Thankfully it fit in there, but barely. I then put it back on in the bathroom & zipped up my jacket inside, lol. Watch out for the bartender with the glasses who is located at the back of the venue facing the stage. He was a bit rude & I think that he might've charged me for two beers when I was distracted looking for my wallet. I ordered two beers but he said I only got one as they didn't have the beer I wanted available. So then I had to pay for another one. He was like, no, you have to pay for that. Whatever asshole, lol. Just tell me that but don't grab the beer & act like I'm trying to steal it, lol. His tone was rude & he gave me a mean look. It was a misunderstanding, so chill the eff out, ugh. I didn't tip him the second time of course, lol. Like I'm really going to just walk off & not pay for something, especially with all these security guys & cameras all over the place? lol. So pay attention people. The other bartenders were OK. There are three or four bars inside there & a small cafe that sells food & beer in the corner outside. My friend & I saw two of my favorite bands there last night, Dope & Static-X. They put on a great show. Unfortunately Static-X took over an hour to come on stage. So we missed part of the show as we had to catch a train back home close to 11p.m. The venue is not to small & not to big which is good. It's to bad that we had to leave before the show ended.

Yelp
im cackling at all the reviews for the summer walker performance... it's literally just a venue guys. it's honestly really cute and I came here to see a dance performance. there's a few popup restaruants that are happening here as well which can improve the vibe but obviously they're expensive as well given the fact.

Yelp
We purchased VIP tickets to Two Friends with a group. VIP is a joke. DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!!!!!!! The biggest concern here is that there is absolutely zero security check... in this day and age this is UNACCEPTABLE and UNSAFE. One thing I liked about the venue was the indoor/outdoor concept. At 1:30 am they started closing all the doors, which caused me to panic as there was no longer airflow through the very crowded venue. We tried to get out and they were making everyone leave out of one door without any clear signage or explanation. Our friend did some research on the venue and turns out they're getting sued for overselling tickets which created unsafe conditions. THIS HAS NOT CHANGED! I will 10/10 not return to this venue.

Yelp
After hearing about this spot from fellow EDM fans, I finally got to check it out this past weekend for the Deadmau5 show. It was a block party event that went from 2-10pm, and when we got there around 5:30, the line to get in wasn't bad at all. The place is pretty big and had two stages going. The indoor stage was really cool, kinda reminded me of the Yuma tent at Coachella, and it was never packed, so getting to the front or right by a speaker was easy. The bars inside were less crowded and never was a line to purchase drinks. The outdoor stage was on the narrow side, but the sound traveled towards the back. I liked how I didn't feel crowded and had plenty of space around which as I get older, is a plus for me. Great visuals and stage production. Couple of things I didn't enjoy was the lack of handwashing stations and hand sanitizer available near the porta potties. I mean that itself is self explanatory. Also, the lack of seltzer options is a missed opportunity. Not a huge fan of Necktar seltzers, I would've bought more if it was claws, bud light seltzers or even trulys. Although I gotta say drinks were reasonably priced considering it's a concert venue. For food, we tried their pizza and were blown away at how good it was. A perfect bar pie, tasty sauce and cheese, it was the surprise of the night. Being on this side of town, it definitely gets cold at night, so bring a jacket. I mean it's SF, never leave home without a jacket. They did have a coat check, so if you need to, at least that's available If you are a fan of EDM music, I don't know how one could not like this place, it's literally the only venue in the Bay built for this style of music when it comes to stage production and a quality sound system. definitely look forward to coming back to watch other edm artists and get an order of that pizza.

Yelp
The midway is the new ruby Skye on SF.. let me explain.. To all the millennials in their thirties right now - who partied in SF 10 years ago, ruby skye was the spot for top DJ talent .. I'm talking diplo when he was starting out..Benny benassi shutting the club down at 5am.. and DJ carnage before he was Gordo! The midway offers that level of DJ talent & awesomeness X 200!!!! So it can't get much better. I've been going to the midway w friends for over 2 years now and the experiences and booking talent just can't get any better. Excited for your season pass. My favorite thing about the midway is that it is not pretentious. Everyone is welcome as they are for pure music enjoyment.

Yelp
Really upsetting that we didn't really get what we paid for. All we saw were the DJs on stage all night... we thought Summer Walker was gonna be on stage ... we bought the tickets through Spotify thinking that this was a show (it literally said she's the talent). People were shoving their way in to get as close to the stage as possible. Doors opened @8pm & they announced around 10:30 pm that she will not be performing tonight. Everyone was mad because we stood there waiting feeling stupid... We checked Summer's Instagram a few mins later and it said that it was "never a performance". So many people started leaving because this was not what they paid for! The DJs didn't even play a single song of hers which was just funny. I will provide screenshots so you can see for yourselves. I'm not holding back because they won't refund us after their false advertisement. Giving my review is the last thing under my control, so I'm just gonna drop these here real quick & move on.
google avatar

Alex P.

Yelp
Such a dreadful experience at this venue. The first fault is that this concert was postponed and i did not recieve notice of this until the DAY AFTER the concert was set to take place. Then when the rescheduled date finally came Summer did not sing one single song. I wasted my time at this venue TWICE due to poor management. The Midway causally advertised a summer walker concert and had people waiting for 4 hours with no communication of Summer Walker's stage presence or lack there of. Instead we were bamboozled to hear DJs spin for 4 hours who were nowhere listed on the advertisements as the primary acts of the night. I would like a refund IMMEDIATLEY! `Tread with caution when seeing an artist at this venue. Their practices are shady and unethical. As someone else mentioned the venue went and deleted their Summer Walker concert post from their IG due to backlash. They know what they did to thousands of fans was not right, the DJS and or promoters need to be held liable. Issue the refunds NOW
google avatar

Flor G.

Yelp
The false advertising claiming summer Walker would do a set is only the beginning. We paid concert prices for something that ended up being a shitty club...literally the dj was not even good I'm sorry. My things is honesty though, if you sell tickets for something people don't get, there should be a refund at least. Just advertise it as a meet and greet and everyone would've been happy.

D P.

Yelp
I had a disappointing experience here but I thought it may be a fluke. I was considering attending a second event and as I see all the reviews here about false advertising I feel like The Midway has a pattern. I came for Hot Chip - I've seen Hot Chip live all over the world. I've also been to their DJ sets a few times. Historically Hot Chip has always been CRYSTAL CLEAR about the distinction whether it's a live performance of their music or a DJ set. Everything on the Midway site led one to believe it was a live performance, so I got tickets for me and my friend as soon as they went on sale. Fast forward to the week of the event, I saw a member of hot chip post a flyer on Instagram saying it was a dj set. I checked back on the midway site and it still didn't say that. So it was a bummer, though the venue is nice. I would do a lot of research before buying tix here again. I also agree with what someone said about the las security. I was surprised in a place that big and crowded, in 2024... we need tighter security.
google avatar

Cecille W.

Yelp
Terrible security - both staff and the venue. First of all, there are no security precautions. They'll check your bag but that's it. No metal detectors. Basically if you have anything hidden in your body you'll be able to go in. Attend events here at your own risk. Security guards are on a huge power trip, thinking they're law enforcement and will talk down on you and are downright disrespectful and arrogant. Please hire better people because I did not feel safe for one second inside this venue. We paid for tickets and were there to have a good time, not to be berated by grown men who do not know how to do their jobs properly.

Yelp
We came to The Midway to see a Dj and it was so much fun! This place has a nice sound system, the bathrooms are pretty clean, the visuals look awesome and the venue is nice overall. There are a few different bars with overly expensive drinks. Their vodka and whisky were not that great, so I recommend sticking to the beer. It does get pretty hot in there and I am not even sure if there is an AC. I think if you pregame and love EDM you will have fun here!
google avatar

Daw M.

Yelp
Nice venue. Great sound system. Bar is cash only. Atm has fees. Food available. Coat check in available Bathrooms are plenty

Yelp
The Midway was so much fun!!! Definitely one of the best venues in SF. I was recommended to go here by a friend and it exceeded my expectations. It definitely gave a nice vibe. I loved how very spacious it was with multiple bars, rooms, exits, and even a little restaurant attached with a heated patio??? What more could you want from a club? Even the food at the restaurant was sooo good, we made sure to eat dinner before drinking and got a freshly made pizza. A FRESHLY BAKED PIZZA WHILE CLUBBING AND DIDNT EVEN HAVE TO LEAVE THE PLACE. Also the bathrooms were cool even though one of them had a see through door, I liked the paintings how they changed in the different colored lighting, and everyone was very friendly. I would definitely come again for another event, but Oliver Heldens was great and a fun crowd.

Yelp
Horrible for concerts (LOONA), but pretty fun for other events (Day of the Devs) Concert 2022 (Loona) - small venue & overcrowded - hard to see stage if you're far because of the many pillars - absolutely no air ventilation Event 2018 & 2022 (Day of the Devs) - uses up the whole building - 1 main room with DJ stage - 2 hallways & 2 smaller rooms - 2 eating areas (indoor & outside) - Cafe has a free water cup station - doors are always open so does not feel stuffy Day of the Devs is a free event where you test out new or upcoming indie games. you can also meet some of the game developers! Overall a super fun event, so come in 2023! In 2018, I saw: - Untitled Goose Game - Ooblets - Kingdom Hearts III - Unpacking

Yelp
Nice setup. Good place to hold an event. Was there for an event supporting Ukraine. The food from the venue was meh but the drinks and layout made up for it.
google avatar

Yelp
Great ambiance and parking, it's a pretty random location. It's right by the farm. This place is perfect for raves. The stages are awesome and the sound is perfect. Lots of places with sound issues lately and this was not a disappointment.

Yelp
We attended Kaskade about a year ago. My husband is 65 and I'm 60. Midway had no chairs for my ADA partial mobility like other block party events in SF. The Great Northern had no problem bringing us a couple chairs. Midway is not in compliance with the regulations as I understand them. I've actually never been denied a chair at any of the many events we attend in SF. This was the first. We sat in the back as that is generally where we like to be anyway but the sound system was so bad, it was difficult to determine what song kaskade was playing and we know all his music. We haven't reported them to the appropriate state/city agencies yet. Thinking about giving them one more try. They claim their event is 100% ADA accessible. Perhaps I can bring my own chair which I've reached out to them to ask. We will see.

Yelp
Are you a lawyer? Would like to start a lawsuit. Zero stars if I could. Last night was my first time at the midway. A group of 8 of us paid $80 each to see Slander. We get in, only to see the bathroom line wrapped around the whole venue. Tried to get a drink while we waited. Cash only. Shortly after, we found out my friend got kicked out for "jumping the fence". He was mistaken for someone else that jumped the fence. I tried to reason with security to let them know they got the wrong person and that we all have tickets and paid to be here. They were extremely disrespectful and dismissive. I understand that security needs to keep people safe. In this case, they didn't do their jobs properly. I tried to speak to a few different people to let them know they got the wrong person, but they all just rudely said to go inside and enjoy my time. How could I do that if my friend got kicked out for no reason? What would you have done in this situation? This isn't even the worst part. As we were leaving, because there was no reason to stay at this point, the "manager" put his hand on me to shoo me out and I fell. I literally have a sprained ankle from falling, due to the manager putting his hand on me- my ankle stayed put but my body fell backward. So again, Worst place ever and if a lawyer is reading this please let me know how I can file a lawsuit and/or at least get a refund for everyone. We didn't even get to see the dj.

Yelp
First time at The Midway which is a cool indoor/outdoor venue specializing in DJ/Electronic music. Had been curious with checking this spot out for quite sometime. There are various DJ stage setups throughout and bar setups to grab a drink. The venue is located on the outskirts of the Dogpatch warehouse area which makes it an ideal venue for large dance music events. The main stage is enclosed I'm thinking to ensure the best of sound. There is street parking available but I would suggest arriving early to grab a spot. Drink and food options are available and there are usually food trucks also setup. A must checkout to get your wiggle on !
google avatar

Henry C.

Yelp
The venue is pretty nice. I like the multiple rooms where the DJ's play. However, they only serve alcohol with cash only. If you do not have cash, there is an ATM that charges a fee. On the other side of the patio, they do serve food but it takes a RIDICULOUSLY LONG TIME. I ordered my food at 9:30pm and I was still waiting around 10pm. The people in front did not order something complex, in which I think the cooking staff was taking their time. A lot of complaints from other customers trying to cancel their orders. Great place to rave, just not great anything else.

Yelp
Came here for 2 different concerts with very different experiences. Both inside the venue. 1 concert that wasnt full was very decent, enough room to breathe, enjoy the music, and with the ability to see, for the most part. The stage that they used isnt very high off of the ground, and since it's standing room only, the further back you are, the less you see. The other concert is probably the biggest downside of this review. It seemed like it was oversold and with that, it was overly packed. I arrived at about the same time before show on both shows, the first time, I was able to get a decent spot, but this time, I was already next to the exit doors in the back. As the show went on, I was getting very uncomfortable with the conditions inside. There was very little ventilation and I'm sure there was no A/C working. I was next to the exit with the outside breeze hitting me, so I don't know how anymore else was doing further in. All of this and it was still pretty into the pandemic. Unless it's an act that I really want to see, I'm not sure if I want to see another show here.
google avatar

Daniel H.

Yelp
Never believe the stated start time for any show at The Midway. I bought tickets for the Thievery Corp last wknd with a kickoff at 3pm. I left at 7pm empty handed. (Thievery apparently went on at 10pm according to friends of friends.) No trusty no more. 2nd disappointment here. The venue is very happy to sell you food and drinks in the meantime, while you while away your hours waiting for the headliner. Very sus.
google avatar

Erika D.

Yelp
Came here for the first time on NYD for Kaskade's after party and it was a mess. Lots of the entry points for drivers were blocked off due to the flooding (it stopped raining by then) and when we found the line to enter, it took a while to move. When we got in, it was just tons of people crammed in hallways and rooms - no way to distinguish which rooms were which or an emergency exit route (?!). Sound quality and Kaskade's set was great, I also like that this venue did keep the intimacy of the redux set, but it was also just super crowded in some areas. Cash only bar and water served on the side. The extra rooms were just so confusing - food was being served and it wasn't clear if it came with the ticket or if we had to purchase it separately. Honestly the event itself was great but the venue itself is just strange.

Yelp
Okay, the Midway still crushes!! We went to the Kaskade block party and the Sound Engineer, Chad made us the most dialed in grilled cheese I've ever had in my life! Chad should be known as the sound engineer or the gods!! The guy gets up onto the stage and gets Kaskade's decks ready and then BOOM! The sound was so good, I couldn't even consider leaving until it was time to get kicked out. There's always some night club shenanigans that goes on there, like cash only bars, but they do have plenty of ATMs and plenty of bathrooms which is a plus. It can get very crowded for shows, but people are super friendly there, just smile and the crowd will let you through!!

Yelp
VIP is a SCAM‼ Recently went to see Eli Brown and paid almost $400 for 3 "VIP" tickets which said to include a complimentary coat check, private bar and bathroom. All we got out of all that was wristbands that said VIP. Not even the staff knew of any VIP section. There was an upstairs balcony that they took us to which was a few benches and a view of the stage and crowd. Absolutely not worth the money. I wouldn't be leaving a bad review if the customer service helped with making this any better. I reached out to Tixr where we purchased our tickets and they said we had to reach out to the actual venue. I have now reached out on three separate occasions and not one response. Super unprofessional and disappointing as I had heard great things about this place. Definitely will be avoiding future events here due to them not being courteous enough for an apology for the false advertising AT LEAST. This venue played us and several other people we met that night. Just to add, as I was writing this review I went to screenshot what VIP included, conveniently they updated it to what REALLY was included AFTER the event. LOL
google avatar

Catherine P.

Yelp
I love this place but they need to get their Women's Bathroom shit in check! It's only 11pm and there is already toilet seats on the floor and mayhem.
google avatar

Rena R.

Yelp
Didn't know what to expect for the VIP as previous reviews make it sound not worth it but I think next time I will just go ahead and get it. There was a upper deck for the VIP guests.

Yelp
Just enjoyed the first Passport event of his year- Mexico. Wonderful evening- caring attentive staff, delicious food and excellent drinks. Always meet fun and interesting people. Staff very conscientious of food preferences and allergies.Mariachi band was spectacular as well and a thoughtful addition to the ambiance of the night.

Yelp
This review is for the Loona concert that happened on 8/4/22. The concert was indoors. There were hundreds of attendees. I was at the very back of the venue. I have zero complaints towards Loona; they worked hard and I appreciate them performing for us. My review is entirely towards the venue. ~ Parking - 3/5 I arrived 30 minutes before the show started and parking was packed near the venue. I eventually found street parking 3 blocks away. The walk was doable. ~ Staff - 2/5 When I arrived the staff that checked my ticket was really nice and welcoming. But some of the staff were rude. I tried to get their attention to ask for the wifi password. They basically ignored my existence. I asked another staff and she sounded annoyed. They don't share the wifi password. ~ Audio - 1/5 The music was loud enough, but the mic audio was weak. I could barely hear the members (especially with people cheering). The audio & the videos sometimes glitched. The staff had to pause to resolve technical difficulties. ~ Visibility - 0/5 Sadly I had a better view watching videos of the concert online, than actually being at the concert. At the back the members looked very small and far away. The stage is very low so unless you're standing close to the stage, you won't see much from the pit or at the back. Visibility is even worse if taller people are in front of you. The members camouflaged with the stage videos and lighting, which further made it impossible to see them. If you are at the back and don't have clear vision, I recommend wearing contacts/glasses. The control booth is at the center towards the back. There are pillars at the left and right sides of the venue. They obstruct the full stage view regardless of where you stand. Not only was there a pillar blocking my view, a girl in front of me got on top of the bar, further blocking what little visibility I had left throughout the night. I don't blame her, but I wasn't happy either. - Vibe - 0/5 Honestly it was depressing at the back. I tried to make the best out of the shitty experience. I cheered and engaged throughout the concert. But the people around me weren't as hyped as I was. I rarely heard anyone scream. The person next to me was on their phone most of the time. The most memorable was a young girl. She had on a whole outfit and a cheering stick. But she did not look excited at all. I understand there was very little to be excited about. But the vibe just wasn't it for me. ~ Safety - 0/5 The biggest issue is the lack of public safety measures for performers and attendees. First, the staff barely checked my bag and did not do a body check. I actually had a small box cutter that could cause harm. To be clear, I did not intend to harm anyone with it; I carry it for personal safety. But the staff should have done a more thorough check. Second, the members said the stage was slippery which made it hard for them to give their 100%. One member even cried and apologized for not being able to give her 100%. Third, this may sound dramatic but people were literally passing out due to the heat and lack of proper air ventilation. The members were sweating and fanning themselves to cool down. One person tweeted they measured really high Co2 levels. Even worse, the venue did not check vaccination records. I took off my mask to drink water and let me tell you the air did not smell right. It felt like inhaling smoke from a forest fire. Luckily the back wasn't cramped and had some air flow (thanks to AC and being close to the door). I stood right where the water dispenser was. Throughout the night people came to the back to get water and sit down on the floor. Most of them looked drained and lifeless. The most memorable was a young teen. She was surrounded by concerned people. She sat on the floor panting for air. Conclusion: The indoor venue is ideal for small and mid size events, but it is a terrible, terrible, TERRIBLE experience for events with hundreds of people.

Yelp
My friends and I went to the Midway to see Madeon and I was so impressed with how clean everything was, especially the bathrooms. Usually for concert venues, I don't expect too much because I know there's a lot of people dancing/drinking and the floors are usually always sticky, littered with trash by the end of the night. That wasn't the case here, which I was so grateful for! The bathrooms had many stalls and sinks and to my pleasant surprise, the floor was also completely spotless! There was also a cute outdoor dining area for Madam Zola's Fortune, a cafe available at the Midway, with fairy lights strung everywhere where my group took our pictures and get some fresh air before dancing the night away. To enter the venue, don't forget to bring your proof of vaccination along with your ID (masks were not mandatory, but strongly recommended).

Yelp
FALSE ADVERTISING!! Worst venue ever!!! Do not waste your time and money. They claimed Summer Walker was going to perform and she didn't. They had a bunch of no bodies DJ'ing. They announced summer walked wasn't going to perform at almost 11:00pm when we were there since 8:00pm
google avatar

Danya L.

Yelp
Saw dream catcher here on 7/14. Absolutely the WORST VENUE I've ever been an attendee at. Staff was awful rude and disorganized. Couldn't direct attendance's as to where the exit was and had hundreds of attendees filter out one door at the end took us upwards of 30 mins to get out. The sound quality was trash. Stage was to small for the performers. We couldn't seen the stage or performance from the back. Mostly because their sound stage booth blocks the whole view. 100% I do not recommend ever coming to this venue.

Yelp
Writing this review, but note I've only been here for DJ events, so i can't say what it's like to see other artists. With that being said, my fav club in SF, imo one of the best venues I've seen dombresky, kaskade block party, and jauz here, and trance family SF, and this is just the perfect club for DJ events! The main stage inside is pretty much giant LED screens so the visuals look awesome. Although the number of stages and designated main stage does change depending on the event. The vibe for EDM music and DJ's is great here! People still come in with rave outfits, when they have block parties it's awesome. Also there's a ton of stalls in the bathrooms so almost never a bathroom line (unless it's the block party!) Downside: parking isn't ideal, i actually don't park around the area at all, i Uber from hotels or friend's apartments. Also it does get HOT in there, which is why the block parties they have are really nice cause they open up a street and there's plenty of air. And it's cash only for bars!! Come prepared!

Yelp
False advertisement, supposedly was going to a summer walker concert only to have someone come out after 3 hours saying she wasn't performing but was just going to take pictures. And then Midway deleted their post of the event. Scammed every one out of their money.

Yelp
WARNING: THEY DON'T CHECK FOR VACCINATION RECORD! I came here to watch A&B on Memorial Day weekend. I was surprised that considering it's a large indoor gathering with Covid cases still looming, they are too relaxed about the whole situation. I was quite surprised that they only check for tickets & ID and not vax record?! They didn't even mention anything in their event info about schedule or vax requirements. Basically anyone can get in, and there were no air circulation in the main stage, of course, a lot of people I know got tested POSITIVE for COVID because of it, even Tony from A&B himself! The area itself is unsafe. We tried to look for information to park our car and we read there has been a lot of car break ins over there. So we decided to Uber, but finding a ride home was a nightmare.

Yelp
PSA hot dog stand outside is a front for armed robbery Illinois & Cesar Chavez: Some guy followed me from the hotdog stand as I was trying to get to my parked car. I shook him. He likely had a weapon. Sped up when I sped up, turned when I stopped unexpectedly. Illinois & Cesar Chavez is where one of them will start tailing you. Stay vigilant or go with Uber / waymo. Don't walk to your car after the show. Venue itself is awesome and has both outdoors / indoors space. Great sound system.

Yelp
This review is based off my experience seeing JUNNY live on labor day. Nothing against JUNNY at all! I loved his performance so much that it literally took me a few days to mentally come back to reality. Pros: - Bathrooms were decent - I had a nice, professional interaction with one of the staff members - The performance was outside. However, it was still a small area for a sold out show Cons: - Very disorganized! No signs/direction on where to line up. No signs were even placed when we arrived to distinguish between VIP and general admission. Lining up for the meet and greet was also a disaster because we were told to line up one way and others were told to line up in a different spot - Security was VERY lenient. BARELY took a peek through my shoulder bag. I can't say if they even patted down men who attended - Parking is on the street. I couldn't tell you about the garages around the area since my friend didn't try going there The pros are the reason why I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 but also because I heard they were short staff as well.

Yelp
Still thinking about the delightful experience I had last night at Sister, Mother, Crone Restaurant, a new pop up inside the Midway. We had a warm, friendly welcome & were given a table perfect for our party. Food was beyond delicious-my favorite was the lamb ravioli and meringue-hazelnut-honey-marmalade dessert! Every table was decorated with a centerpiece that was unique and lovely. We chose the mocktail mix of blood orange, lime and ginger beer- bright, fresh and delicious. The special event music by DJ JaiBayBae added a so perfect enjoyable, energetic dining experience. The three walls surrounding us were fanciful, magical and beautiful moving art! - like the music, unique and experiences in themselves! Really superb place to go!

Yelp
Went to The Midway for a ToastedSF event last month and had a great time, I thought the partial indoor/outdoor venue was dope and if it weren't for a music festival in the city the same weekend, I imagine it would have been packed to capacity. Also love the small restaurant in the venue, perfect for a day time hangout and would definitely return for another big event.

Yelp
Live music and entertainment during a Global Pandemic? The Midway became one of the first to pioneer the confusing and complex path to do it safely! We all remember how miserable the first few months of lockdown made us feel. Will we ever hear live music again? Feel the bass tremble through our body? See Lasers and LEDS light up the night? Fortunately, The Midway is located in an area with plenty of space to social distance. They have a huge parking lot that they transforming into an outdoor event space. A stage that has grown over the months to include an LED backdrop with bright visuals. Tables that seat 4 that are spaced out to the end of the lot. You book a table, find 3 friends, and get there early bc it's first come/first serve with table options. Unfortunately, if you get there late, you'll be sitting pretty far back and it's admittedly not the best experience. It's hard to see the stage and the speakers aren't put in the back so it's hard to hear either. However, if you get there early or purchase VIP, it's a pretty fun experience! Scan the QR code on the table to order drinks & food directly to your table. Yes, it's a bit pricey for the amount of food you get, but I don't think it's absurd for the production value you're receiving. There is always at least 1 vegan option available. If you want, you can go up to the bar and order drinks in person. I've attended a few times and have experienced it both at night and during the weekend brunch. At night, it gets cold! So pack thick jackets, wear your furry hoods or onesies. During the day, there is no shade, so make sure to bring your hats & sunglasses, sunblock, and fans. It feels so good to see one of my favorite artists perform and be able to dance and hear music blast through the air. It's not perfect, but they are continually working to improve it every day. It's been tough to always keep up with city regulations and shutdowns, but we need to support our local small businesses and live event venues, and all the artists and musicians that depend on them to make a living. Hoping that after this next shutdown, The Midway can continue to provide a safe space to enjoy live entertainment again.

Yelp
TSUNAMI HALLOWEEEEEN: Miles Medina, Kehlani, DJ Noodz... yummy!! Super happy that Tsunami Halloween was in this venue because it was a good time! The bar is right nearby the stage and no matter where in the crowd I was, I was able to see those who were performing. I enjoyed the lighting of this venue and how easy it was to get in/out through security (who were really nice to me!). The bar when I went was cash only and it gets really busy as you would imagine. Tequila shots 4 life tho!! I hope Midway has more lineups that catch my attention because I'd def come back here!

Yelp
Went to see Dreamcatcher here and had the worst time ever. Concert itself was amazing. They put on such an amazing show. First off, the staff were nonexistent until an hour before doors opened. Me and my friends lines up around 6am and we obviously already had an idea that we would have to organize our own lines but we didn't expect no one to show up to show us where to line up until 1pm . We kinda just organized it ourselves and then an hour before doors opened the staff there FINALLY put up signs at the front to help people differentiate between GA and VIP. All they did were put up signs, people showing up were asking questions because obviously they were confused on where to go and all of us at the front had to do staff's jobs for free and direct everyone where to go. Additionally, in order to use the restroom you would have to buy someone from their cafe. Spent 6 dollars for a drink and others spent 15 on a meal to be able to piss. Otherwise we would've had to walk 15 minutes to a bathroom. Cafe also didn't open until noon. Cant you guys get porta potties at least?? Staff were rude also. Was standing in line for a drink in order to use the bathroom and this blonde lady kindly reminded me with her comment of "you have to buy something in order to use the bathroom"...uh yeah that's obviously why i'm in line. We would ask other male staff questions as well because we were worried that they wouldn't honor GA line formation because at some point both VIP and GA blended together at the back of the building, so we simply asked a dude "hey can you go direct people??" and he snapped back at us with a "for what?".... The worst part was being inside. I don't know what the capacity is for the venue but we got the small indoor one and we were packed to the brim. Couldn't move, couldn't breathe. We were all mostly masked up which was great because jfc we could not move. At one point I kept feeling water drops on my arm and I was brushing it off originally as someone's sweat since it was so damn hot in there. But then the drops started getting bigger and I was like yo who is spitting on me?? Turns out it was CONDENSATION DROPS from the ceiling! Due to the fact that there was no proper ventilation or air in there. Couldn't see any of the members unless I raised my arms up to take a video and stand on my tippy toes which is ok I guess because i'm already short so I expected that. The fact that there's no ventilation is so dangerous. Felt dizzy and sick a couple times and the girls performing also looked exhausted and sweaty and I felt so bad for them. It's really unsafe and this place should probably lower the capacity because even people in the back couldn't move. My biggest issue is with the company bringing the girls to this crappy venue. It's just not a good venue for concerts in general unless it's outdoor.

Yelp
Decidedly disappointed with the Midway: we had tickets to a Saturday show that was originally billed as a block party outdoors from 2-10p. The day before the show, I was literally trying to figure out what clothes to wear and couldn't spot any info anymore that indicated that the show was outside? So we called and they don't have an actual phone number -- the message says send an email. I got a prompt response saying the show is indoors from 8:30p-2a -- not what I bought tickets for or had been planning to go to. We received no communication as to the change and if I hadn't been trying to plan an outfit and an uber, we would have showed up five hours early. I replied back seeking clarification, heard nothing. Replied back again asking for a refund and it took them three days (the show is long over) to reply. Again, there's no phone number to call so...? How are you gonna secretly change the time of an event and then not have anyone on hand to deal with that? Bonkers.

Yelp
Where to even begin? I'm sure the Midway would be a fine venue if they stuck to DJ sets and the 1.3k maximum occupancy listed on the wall of the RiDE room, but an overbooked kpop concert in a room with no air conditioning or ventilation left me passed out on the floor and heading home early. Here are the basics of the LOONA concert on 8/4/22: 1. The heat was insane. Steam from sweat and heat hung in the air, condensation dripped from the ceiling onto the crowd and the stage, and CO2 in the room peaked at above 3000ppm. People were leaving the show floor left and right due to heat illness. The gallery hallway outside the RiDE room venue was filled with people decked with LOONA merch, people who had waited years for this first US tour, and they were too ill to watch their favorite performers. 2. Security was nonexistant unless you were one of the first people inside the venue. At some point they just gave up and glanced at every bag. I had a huge bag with me because 2 security staff promised me the cloakroom would be open (Surprise! It wasn't!) and they guard only looked for half a second. They let all sorts of banned items inside-- some people literally bought chairs and stools to stand on, and others bought huge signs and banners that blocked people's view entirely. The staff opened up the doors at the end of the gallery for a little bit of airflow, but then didn't bother watching the entryway and allowed people to go in and out of the venue as they pleased, not checking their bags or anything upon return. 3. Did I mention this show was overbooked? It was overbooked. There were easily between 1.7-2k people in the venue and the RiDE room had occupancy signs that listed 1.3k maximum. People on twitter said that the Midway cheeses the max occupancy of their shows by opening up other spaces inside the venue, like the gallery hall and the patio. I'll be filing a report with the fire Marshall about this and encourage others to do so as well. 4. Even outside all of the health and safety failures, this venue just wasn't good for concerts. The stage is probably less than 4 feet tall, it's impossible to see the choreography because you only see the performers from the waist up. The stage was so low that they didn't even have security in front of the barricade because it would have completely obstructed the view, which is so unsafe. It was hard to year unless you were n the front of the stage, and mic issues and tech issues plagued the show. I saw videos online that showed the performers saying their goodbyes at encore. Jinsoul burst into tears over the heat, the tech issues, and the slippery stage and apologized to the audience. Hyunjin, who nearly fainted the song prior, confessed that while she tried her best she felt like she was going to die. Hundreds of people reported heat exhaustion after the show. A nightmare from start to finish, I hope Sean Healy Presents and MMT never book this venue ever again. No performer and no concert attendee deserves to suffer like we did on the night of the LOONA show. Shame on The Midway for their negligence.

Yelp

Yelp
The indoor stage is DANGEROUSLY hot when it's sold out. There's no air or ventilation inside. Another review mentioned they measured the CO2 and it was super high. I felt like I couldn't breathe and I lost consciousness a few times luckily people carried me out of the crowd until I was okay. Several people were PASSING OUT from the heat and their limp bodies being dragged out of the crowd for fresh air and water. No joke dude. Every single person was soaking/ dripping sweat. It had to of been 95 + in there it felt like my hot yoga class and trust me this is not from the drugs or alcohol. I've been to plenty of concerts and raves, I've never experienced anything like this. It's unsafe! hope the venue installs fans/air conditioning in the main indoor room before someone dies. Management please do better, this is irresponsible. I'm actually genuinely worried about people going here. THEY ARE UNETHICALLY SELLING MORE THAN MAX CAPACITY by opening two other side rooms to lounge in. The main room is 1.3k max capacity. They will open two side rooms so that they can "legally" sell 1.8k tickets. Then all those people go into the the main room. UNSAFE CONDITIONS. Several people are talking about lawsuits and writing complaints to SF fire Marshall's. I will and highly recommend you do as well. Please check on your friends and strangers that look dizzy/ faint! Our crowd was awesome and looking out for each other. I didn't see any medics or first aid stations at the venue. Pull them out of the crowd into the hallway for fresh air. At least they have free water stations! Also the reviews about security being rude and handsy is accurate. They will physically push you out of the door even if you are not causing any trouble. Stay safe yal and have a blast but go to another venue if at all possible! I did not feel safe here and won't be back!

Yelp
Went there last night for Paul Kalkbrenner. Dished out the extra to get VIP tickets but was not worth it. I was thinking the VIP got us upstairs up behind the dj booth but I was wrong. VIP only got you in a special room with seating and a separate bar, however it didn't even matter cause there were plenty of other bars with no lines. The venue was alright but just very disappointed in the VIP. Great outdoor areas for smoking and to see the band/dj outside.

Yelp
Security guard grabbed my breast and proceeded to tell me my drink belonged to an Asian man... who I was with.... and I am also Asian...

Yelp
Love the vibe here and it's a great space but CLEAN YOUR BATHROOMS you can't have a day-long event and not have someone on hand for this, Fyre Festival, they were filthy for yesterday's block party

Yelp
Saw a concert there. Was MEH. The acoustics are terrible. The place is REALLY cold. You can get food and drink there. Lots ans lots of clean bathrooms. A few different bars. Security out WAY too far back for the kind of show we saw. Not sure I'll go again.
