"Located on the grounds of Maui Tropical Plantation, the Mill House sources much of its menu from agricultural tenants on its surrounding 1,800 acres of land. Executive chef Taylor Ponte—who was born and raised in Upcountry Maui and grew up hopping the fences of many of the ranches he now works with—then uses those ingredients in a variety of dishes that honor the men who emigrated from Japan, China, Spain, Korea, Portugal, and other distant countries to work in Maui’s sugarcane industry more than a century ago. Standout options include mushroom croquetas , pork musubi , taro leaf risotto, bean stew, and coffee-glazed rib eye with smoked potato puree. Reserve ahead and consider making a day of your visit. Along with fine dining, the plantation offers farm tours, a boutique selling locally made art and products, and a free, family-friendly park inhabited by wild birds."

The Mill House - Review - Wailuku - Maui - The Infatuation

"You won’t find this spot on the “resort rows” of Wailea or Kāʻanapali, but it’s worth the 20-30 minute trip from your hotel to Central Maui for dinner at The Mill House. Not only is the menu farm-driven, but it’s also farm-located, right in the middle of the Maui Tropical Plantation. Get here early to wander the property and take in the views of the Central Valley over Happy Hour cocktails and wood-fired sourdough pizzas. Dinner is definitely more upscale and expensive (though, this is still Maui, so flip-flops are always welcome), but if only one big night out is in the budget, The Mill House is where you should spend it." - Leah Ponichtera

I LOVED The Mill House!!! My family of 5 had lunch here and wish we could have gone back a second time to try more on their menu. The food was all local farm-to-table fresh, flavorful and delicious. The VIEWS while dining on their outdoor patio was INCREDIBLE. Our server Jamie - was friendly, genuine and passionate about what she does. She truly made our visit very special and we tried everything she recommended and loved it all. I would definitely recommend this to anyone who travels to Maui. Amazing experience all around!

Google
Lovely atmosphere, delicious fresh food, warm service. You can taste the freshness of vegetables in salad. Some dishes are a little on the salty side, even the fresh bread, but generally very tasty and delicious. Definitely try to sit in the plantation side instead of in the theater. A little pricey for $$ ($115 for lunch for 4), but worth it.

Google
Absolutely fantastic. We only got the small bites and chef's plates to share, but we got a lot! The surroundings and decor are also lovely. We'd hiked the sliding sands trail earlier that day and it was good to sit and enjoy the greenery with the food. It was refreshing to find a place that did such good fresh vegetarian food. Neither my husband nor I are veggie. Our server was Daniel and he was very amiable and provided a lot of insight and tips. Would definitely go back if we'd had more time to try the larger dishes.

Google
Such a beautiful place to dine and enjoy the company of my sweetheart ❤ The setting is as amazingly beautiful on a different level, as Mamas Fish House. We ordered one dish each from Bite, Small Plate, Pasta and Entree, all were fabulously delicious, we savored every morsel! Portions are small, so take your time to taste each flavorful bite. We didn't have time to tour the plantation but will definitely return. The grounds are impeccable and quirky fun, there's plentiful parking and immaculately clean restrooms! We made lunch reservations, but it wasn't necessary, they weren't busy at all, but, I would highly recommend reservations for dinner! This is another must do while on Maui.

Had dinner here for my sister in laws wedding reception. The scenery is very pleasant and made for some nice pictures! The food I had was very good and my wife liked her food a lot as well. We all felt that the server was a bit pushy with us on ordering more food or drinks and was a bit of a turn off. I had said I was good with just ice water and got asked a couple times if I wanted a drink, seemed to be frustrated with people when they didn't want to look at a desert menu because we were all so stuffed. I'm not sure if this is restaurant policy or what but just seemed like it could be cut back a bit.

Google
Outstanding location and exquisite food. Look for outdoor seating by the lagoon for the best experience. The menu changes daily, and everything is cooked to perfection. I found the sauces to be a little heavy for the fish items - since the fish themselves are so fresh and tasty that they don’t need a sauce really. Also, you must try any vegetable dish, as they are mostly from the estate’s gardens, and so so tasty. The restaurant offers kama’aina discount. Updated: so we were back two years later and the food is still exquisite. Service was a little slow this time, maybe due to a busy Friday evening, but overall a great experience.

Google
Lovely views of the valley and mountains. Large patio with shade. The indoor seating is spacious with large doors that open to the patio. The staff are very friendly and make good recommendations. The ahi nachos, prime rib dip, and hamachi Kama are delicious. The cocktails are also fantastic—interesting flavor profiles and very well balanced. Highly recommend.

Google
The restaurant had a fascinating decor with historical features added into the layout of the dining area. The ambiance was enhanced with the open air setting. The entrees and appetizers were equally beautiful in preparation, however the favor profiles did not match the presentation. The entrees tasted good, but did not have the wow quality that was present in every other aspect of the restaurant.

Yelp
The property is beautiful and the food was excellent. Pork belly favorite. The reuse of wood, tools, and equipment in the building was designed beautifully. Mosaic stone floor also beautiful.

Yelp
Wow! What a beautiful place. The service was amazing and you could tell that the manage, truly cared that every guest (even trail-weary travelers with kids like us) had an amazing experience. Service, food and ambiance all excellent. 5 stars - hands down!

Yelp
The service was fantastic and you already know that the ambiance is top tier with the amazing view from the patio. We loved the Ahi nachos - fish was extremely fresh and the chips were light. Highly recommend.

Yelp
Admittedly, the start of our visit was in no way a reflection of the full visit. When we first arrived at Cafe O'lei, we were hot, tired, and ready for a good meal. The hosts both seemed very distracted and were snickering to each other as we approached the host stand. Once we were standing there requesting a table, one of the hosts decided to ask us whether we would like to sit inside or outside. We promptly requested inside given the hot wind of the day and the strong sun. She silently led us to a table and walked away without much more of a word. We then sat at our table for at least 15 minutes before any server approached our table or offered us water. Finally, we were greeted warmly by our server and from this point on our experience changed for the better. Our server was incredibly kind and helpful and made sure we were well taken care of for our meal. We had low expectations for the food given the intro to the restaurant we had received, but were blown away by the quality. We ordered the lettuce wraps to start which were incredibly refreshing, crisp, and filling. I could have eaten that as a main. However, for our main I ordered the beef dip which was, again very filling (I had to take half home) and very delicious. Since this restaurant is at the tropical plantation, I couldn't leave without trying a pineapple beverage, which my taste buds were delighted over. I can't recall the name of the beverage but have included a photo below. It is definitely worth a try if you are visiting! Again, although the beginning of our visit was unpleasant, it was turned around very quickly by a responsive server and incredible food. I would recommend this place to anyone!

Yelp
Loved this place! Great outdoor atmosphere with interesting full sized trains inside. Our server was sparkling ( NY eve$ and delightful. Apps of hamachi and papaya salad were delicious. Entrees of mahi and prime ribs were great. Delicious pineapple upside down cake with ice cream finished us off. A great night!

Yelp
What an amazing place to go when you're in Maui. I came here for my birthday because I heard it was a very beautiful place to go to have dinner or lunch. This place is pretty popular so make sure you get reservations. The facility is an old sugar plantation mill that has been repurposed for other use. There are a restaurant, stores, and outdoor kids activities. Café O'lei has both seating inside and outside. Opt for the outside. The view is amazing. The waitstaff were wonderful and attentive. We ordered a crab Benedict and a Kahlúa pork fried rice. Both were exceptionally tasty. It appears their go to was the French onion soup, which every table ordered. I even got a complementary dessert for my birthday.! I'm pretty sure the ambience is just as nice at night, but it was great to be able to see the mountains and rivers next to the restaurant. There is another location in Maui for the café, but this one has the view. I would definitely come back here and try the French onion soup.

Yelp
As this was our first day at Maui and we just left our last restaurant since it was a bar and it was not something that we were looking forward to. I looked up other places on yelp and found this wonderful café that is located within the plantation itself. The grounds at the restaurant are located on is beautiful, and the views are amazing if you were sitting outside the restaurant. We arrived in the afternoon and went straight to the café and put down our name since there was a wait. It doesn't matter because you can walk around the plantation and look at different animals, mountains, wonderful, beautiful landscaping, and cute little geckos that are running around. We waited about 15 minutes and were seated outside per our request. The view from our table was beautiful and there were a lot of people out in the patio, but it did not distract you from the view. This was the main reason why I wanted to come to this café was because I wanted the beautiful landscaping while we had our delicious lunch from traveling. It truly did not seem real. We were seated and our server came up immediately. We both ordered cocktails I ordered a mock cocktail, but had them put in a little bit of vodka and it was delicious. The espresso martini is also really delicious. You're definitely coming here just to enjoy yourself and make sure you're not in any rush because you're going to get a slow service, but I did definitely do not mind. My partner and I ordered the fish and chips and the mahi-mahi Caesar salad, we definitely ordered the jumbo shrimp, but they accidentally brought us the mahi-mahi which is fine. We really wanted to try the jumbo shrimp and I was surprised that they didn't even take it off the menu when it wasn't our mistake. Again, it was our first day and didn't wanna be obnoxious of having them bring out shrimp. It's interesting because the plating is different from each order. I saw another person order the same item I had and it looked like there was a lot more french fries and more fish than what came out on our plate. The mahi-mahi was a little bit dry and a little bit crispy on the outside, which I found the texture to be a little off. The server was super sweet, and I asked for some cocktail sauce, which they do not have, but she went back there and made it herself! Lastly, I knew that this was going to be a place that I was going to spend some money because of food was pretty good and we ordered dessert. I ordered the upside down pineapple cake of course when you're in Hawaii. The cake came out. I was expecting it to be a little bit on the moist side, but it was in the middle I would say. The ice cream was delicious that it came with all around this place is really great if you want some good food, great views and some nice drink drinks.

Yelp
Still the best Hamachi Kama!!! Sarah our server was awesome! She's friendly, proactive and efficient! Great views! Getting pretty pricey though.

Yelp
BRUNCH, LUNCH, DINNER - ALL 5/5 Once again had an unbeatable experience. Loco moco and eggs bennie absolutely popped off. I love it here!!! Views are incredible and service is great.

Yelp
Amazing place for lunch or dinner. Great views during the day, makes you feel like you're in Kauai more than Maui with such a green backdrop. The staff is awesome and super helpful and quick to help! The food was delicious - would recommend the fish special always!

Yelp
Love this place! It was a unique experience. It had a casual feel with elevated menu options. The food was great, I really enjoyed the mai tai and the flatbread. Get an outdoor seat if you can. I don't think I've ever dined this close to nature -- right beside me were Jurassic park-esque mountains, lush greenery of the plantation, chickens trotting beside you, and a pond with lots of wildlife -- it all felt so serene!

Yelp
While visiting Maui I got invited to this place for brunch. I'm more of a vegetarian so this dish suited well for me. Their house potatoes were nice and season with the right amount of herbs.

Yelp
Great place to eat and learn about Maui railroad history. Food is awesome awesome and coacktails put utogether ur in the mood!! Lobster ricotta was perfect!!!

Yelp
Beautiful restaurant inside the Maui tropical plantation. We didn't have a reservation for an early dinner but got a table after a short wait. We ordered some drinks, the onion soup, the catch of the day and the macadamia crusted mahi mahi. The onion soup came out first. The soup is topped with a dome of puff pastry. The combination of the pastry, the onion soup itself and the Gruyère cheese make for a very comforting dish. Loved it. The fish dishes were also cooked perfectly and the sauces complimented the fish nicely without overwhelming it. Staff were friendly and attentive. Would definitely come here again.

Yelp
This place was super vibey. Beautiful views, sitting on this patio with a cocktail. A whole vibe. Cocktails were good, food was good! Once happy hour ended, we couldn't get more fries, which was sad because they were really good! Our waiter was a bit aloof, but maybe that was because it wasn't that busy when we entered, he was the only one, and then a lot more people showed up right at the end of happy hour. A good spot to stop for happy hour, I would definitely come back. There's a ton of stuff in this area to see since it's at the plantation.

Carol W.

Yelp
Beautiful place to have lunch and/or dinner. Service was excellent and the food was very good and plentiful! The onion soup with a puffed pastry shell was good but wished there was more cheese so that the cheese would stretch when you spooned the soup. The soup was tasty. The lobster risotto with a decent size lobster tail was very tasty with a hint of truffle flavoring. The special mahi had 2 large filet pieces on mash potatoes with asparagus. The garlic cream sauce over the fish really made this dish a great choice. We pretty much licked the plate when we were done. We were too full to have dessert. We would definitely come back the next time visiting Maui! We would like to try their brunch dishes specifically to try their eggs Benedict, loco moco and maybe their pork belly dish!!!

Yelp
I was really excited to come after reading a few glowing reviews with one even saying this was the best spot they ate the entire visit to Maui. I can confidently say that was not the case for us. While it wasn't a terrible meal, it was not close to being the best or even a memorable one. I did enjoy the open air feel to the space. We were literally seated at a table located in one of the open door days that was half inside and half out on the patio. Service was friendly enough. I ordered the mac nut chicken sandwich and it was a pretty big let down. The chicken was nearly smash burger thin and super dry. On the other end, the focaccia bread was SUPER thick and also dry. So the ratio of bread to chicken end up being 2:1. It was just generally an unpleasant experience. The accompanying salad was particularly solid, but that's secondary. It may have been just a one off with other menu items being better, but I still think there are better options around.
google avatar

Amber V.

Yelp
I got the caesar salad with blackened mahi it was pretty good I would have preferred the parmesan crusted fish but they didn't have it on special today. The blackened mahi has a little bit of spice but not overpowering. We also got onion soup delicious and asian braised short rib. Appetizer lettuce wraps and special flatbread and brussels sprouts. Service was good and ambience is pretty around 5:30/ 6 with views of the mountains and the pond.

Yelp
I love this place. I stopped on my way to the airport at the end of my vacation. Brunch opened at 9am and I was seated outside at water's edge. I couldn't decide between Loco Moco or Kailua Pork Fried Rice, so my server suggested a combo... two eggs over the Fried Rice... it was amazing! I had a Lilikoi Mocktail - delicious... what a perfect way to end a trip. The prices were very reasonable considering the portion size, quality of ingredients, service and the setting. I will make this my island ritual from now on.

Yelp
Making our annual Thanksgiving memories this year, at Cafe O Lei ( formerly "The Old Mill House" ) in Maui. The scenery here, and the buffet today were beyond all expectations, and well worth the wait, as it was reservation only, and fully booked. Talk about a small world...James, the Wine Sommelier, is from Cottonwood AZ...

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant on the island and my go-to spot for taking visiting friends. Every item on the menu is fresh and absolutely delicious, but my personal favorites are the French onion soup, the blackened mahi-mahi plate with Caesar salad, and the macadamia nut-crusted chicken sandwich. The burger is also a must-try! Pro tip: Always order the fish special--it never disappoints. The combination of incredible food, lush views, and charming rustic plantation decor creates an unmatched dining experience. The service is fast and friendly, making every visit a delight. 10/10--highly recommend!

Yelp
What a fun experience to celebrate two birthdays! The blackened shrimp was delicious, but the blackened seasoning is hard to eat a lot of so I recommend saving some for leftovers. Lobster risotto was also extremely delicious! My only negative comment is that the steak was pretty tough. Appetizers were all fab, service was wonderful, and the scenery is lovely!

Yelp
Maui is breathtakingly beautiful! And Cafe O'Lei at the Plantation was a highlight of our trip. We were staying oceanside when we decided to venture to another part of the island. I did my research (through Yelp ofc!), which led us here. We drove up (25 minutes from Wailea) with some friends and were delighted the moment we arrived. This is more than just a restaurant. There are shops and walking paths among the restaurant. You can find food and gifts - we purchased a hand painted holiday ornament! The food was amazing - nothing fancy, mind you, but scrumptious! The service was fantastic! And the view..check out my photo! Mahalo, Cafe O'Lei at the Plantation! You've become a must-stop visit for us whenever we land in Maui!
google avatar

Ashley O.

Yelp
We stopped by at Cafe O'lei as our last lunch before heading to the airport. It was such a wonderful way to cap off a lovely trip! I had the fish special lunch that was mahi mahi with a passion fruit beurre blanc sauce. The sauce was both rich and tangy, definitely the star that made the whole meal delicious. That paired with the calamansi sour made for a wonderful and memorable lunch! We ended the meal with the cheesecake that was just ok. It was a lovely creamy texture but the strawberry sauce had some soured strawberries that took me out of enjoying the cheesecake. While the meal itself was amazing, the view and service were also top notch. Not once were we without, our server checked in us and always a step ahead of anything we could need. The views are unreal. Not just a spot to grab lunch, you can walk around and enjoy the beautiful landscape around. Can't wait to come back on the next trip.
google avatar

Jon O.

Yelp
Had a wonderful lunch at Cafe O'lei! This is at the Plantation, located up the hill behind the main store. We were seated overlooking a pond and the mountain range, such a beautiful setting to enjoy our meal! We started with some appetizers such as their ahi poke nachos that came with lots of toppings, and lettuce wraps that were nicely spiced and had great texture. My main course was their crab salad sandwich that came with a mini-Caesar salad. The crab salad filling was delicious and generous, but I found the bread too thick so I ate mostly the filling that came with bacon and avocado, and just took small bites of bread. Highly recommend to anyone driving between Kahului and West Maui!

Yelp
Always great. We tried their Easter brunch today and everything was great. They had a great selection and desserts and drinks were great too. We passed on the omelette station but maybe next time. The only bummer, as a mom with a little one, I wish they had a bigger handicap stall with a changing table. I never noticed that before having my baby but my little one had a huge blowout right in the middle of brunch of course and I had to change her in her stroller that luckily that could turn into a bassinet and we barely fit in the handicap stall. Good times lol. Other than that adventure today, always great. We would definitely do their Easter brunch again. Much mahalo! Check them out!

Yelp
This place is beautiful. The food and drinks are average at best. Staff were nice, however our server spilled part of my martini and didn't come back to clean up the table which got our table and hands ridiculously sticky. The cedar salad was ok, a bit too room temp. The pork belly buns were the best thing we ordered. The loco moco was not great. Drinks are way too sweet. Ample of parking and easy to make reservations or do walk ins.
google avatar

Alvia Y.

Yelp
Would rate this place 10 stars if I could including our server Amy who was soo nice! The brunch here was a perfect treat after the Maui Zipline at 1230p-2p just before we did the last plantation farm tram at 3p (highly recommend). We had the Belgian waffles with sauces on the side, special island catch of the day Maui with coconut sauce and rice and asparagus, ahi tuna poke nachos. The drinks (virgin nojitos) and upside down pineapple cake with Mac nut ice cream were amazing. We got two orders to go that the kids had for breakfast the next day without the ice cream. It's made fresh in house so you can't get it anywhere else. One of our favorite go to brunch places in Maui. The view is so beautiful of the mountains and lush gardens too.

Dominic V.

Yelp
The restaurant is located behind the coffee shops. From the parking lot, there's a path leading up on the far left side of everything. I thought I got the wrong address until I saw people walking. My first impression of the restaurant was, the service staff was nice and professional. Our host was very stoic. It looked empty in terms of dining patrons, but we were lead to the back where everyone was seated and it was nice and crowded. There was even a party going on in the back with a large group. This was a sit down dinner and was a nice breath of fresh air from all the to go trucks and boxed meals we've been getting. We started with the Hamachi and pork belly bao, both delicious. Hamachi Carpaccio: this came on a bed of ponzu sauce with a hint of citrus and a slight kick from the jalapeños. I would avoid if you're not into spicy. It's only a hint but there is that uncomfortable feeling from it. Pork Belly Bao: this was delicious. It's a remix of the traditional duck skin bao you get from Chinese restaurants. If you're into pork belly, this is a good dish to start off with. It comes in 3s. I have a problem with odd number foods because it never splits well in any situation unless you have those exact number of people. Macadamia Nut Crusted Mahi Mahi: this was good but it was dry on the inside. It tasted a bit plane. It pairs well with the mash potatoes though. If you have a bite of fish with mash potatoes, it's a good balance of creaminess and flavor. Furikake Seared Ahi: this was the favorite. The ahi was medium rare on the inside and seared perfectly on the outside that added a nice crunch. Paired with rice, this was a great dish to enjoy. Malasadas: fried dough with sugar dipped in more flavored sugar, need I say more? Nice vibes, gorgeous place. We left a little early though because the bugs started coming out. I recommend coming a little early to avoid the moths once it gets dark and the lights from the restaurant attracts them indoors.

Yelp
Food quality is normally consistent and fairly tasty. Although the bartender was extra sweet with good service her drinks weren't great. The ambiance is everything here!

Yelp
What an amazing experience we had here today. This place is so beautiful to begin with. As we walked to the check in stand we couldn't help but notice the beautiful views that this place offers. We got seated at a nice table that seats 4 in there indoor seating area. The hostess that took us to our table was friendly and sweet. Looked over the menu and saw what I wanted to drink and of course I got a POG Mimosa, my absolute favorite. Ordered that and a few more drinks and we knew what we wanted to eat so we put in our orders. As we were waiting I couldn't help but notice the other food that people ordered and everything looked AMAZINGLY DELICIOUS.Wish I could try everything they had! I ordered the Mahi Mahi which came with rice and ceasers Salad! Let me tell you this the fish tasted fresh and the preparation was so 'Ono. Others choose the same but had all ceasers salad no rice and a cheeseburger with French fries cooked well done! As soon as we were done eating out plates were cleared and we asked for a dessert menu! Yes please. So we chose the Malasadas which comes with 3 dipping sauces. Plus a pineapple upside down cakec with vanilla macadamia nut ice cream. Everything was delicious. The Malasadas came out hot and fresh and they're not Pillsbury dough. There actually real Malasadas! Our waitress was kind and attentive. He brought our drinks out at perfect times he kept our waters filled and he brought everything we asked for! So please come and try this place. I'm sad it took me Corbet to come here but now I'll be back sooner rather than later!!

Yelp
This is definitely one of my favorite brunch spots in Maui when I visited earlier last year. We ordered the Ube Pancakes, Asian Braised Pork Belly Hash and some egg benedict. The ube pancakes and the pork belly hash were a hit! We were seated indoors, but it was really windy - some things were flying left and right but it was still a good experience. Will be back to try more items.

Yelp
Best meal we had the entire time we were in Maui. Honestly one of the most beautiful restaurants I've ever been to on the planet. Incredible restaurant design, incredible backdrops, incredible drinks, incredible food, incredible people. Cant say enough great things about this place. You have to experience the aloha for yourself.
google avatar

Art C.

Yelp
We enjoyed our visit here. But I confess- we didn't even really come for the food. The grounds here and resulting ambiance are beautiful. It's just a great place to sit back and relax and enjoy a good meal. So, while we didn't come for the food, the food was also pretty good. They do very well executed, maybe a bit pricey, dishes. Not special- but the entire experience makes it worth it. Overall, we had a very nice time here.
google avatar

Mitch M.

Yelp
Wonderful plantation property and restaurant. This was our 2nd time coming for dinner and the staff did not disappoint. Best, I repeat, but service I've seen anywhere on the island. Everyone was a pleasure to interact with. And the food, from pre-dinner flatbread delights and delicious surf and turf options, we had an exceptional time.
google avatar

Laura M.

Yelp
This place is a gem! We went once for dinner and the food was delicious! Amazing service and beautiful ambiance as well. Definitely worth a visit! We loved it so much we ended up coming back for brunch another day after zip lining. The plantation is so cute with great shopping, site seeing, this lovely restaurant, and even cute and friendly ducks. You should go to Cafe O'Lei! Aloha!

Yelp
Amazing food, service, and great atmosphere. We had such a blast here and we love to Come back soon. The server didn't have a name tag d Or didn't introduced himself so we didn't get his name. But shoutout to Jake super cool guy to take a photo of our time there.

Karl R.

Yelp
For a cafe sitting in the middle of a beautiful plantation and grounds, I expected more farm-forward dishes. However, I was disappointed in the menu selection. A lot of the dishes seemed divorced from the produce grown on the plantation. I enjoyed the Kumu Farms Half Papaya Salad, but it wasn't all that special. The Cafe O'Lei Crab Club that my wife ordered had way too much mayonnaise, and the Sauteed Mahi Mahi is prepared with... wait for it... a lemon-caper butter sauce... on a tropical plantation. The plantation garden is pretty to walk through (and has some gnarly spiders), and the cafe has a beautiful view of the West Maui mountains and forest. Service as polite and food came out quickly. And the food itself was fine, just not something I would drive out of my way to eat.
google avatar

Janelle K.

Yelp
I came for the Thanksgiving buffet and it was amazing. Prime rib was too good though, so I did not eat much turkey. Side dishes were great and cocktails were legit. Location was also cool. No complaints.
google avatar

Audrey P.

Yelp
The food was delicious, especially the baked onion soup. The special opakapaka with mashed potatoes topped with two shrimp was also well prepared and much enjoyed. We appreciate the ample parking and how well the restaurant accommodated our party of 12. We had considered another popular restaurant because they had tomahawks but are glad for the local flavors available at the Cafe O'Lei Kihei.
google avatar

Rhea G.

Yelp
Stopped by during our trip to Hawaii, and overall, it was good! The food was tasty, and the tropical flavors definitely hit the spot, but it did feel a bit touristy. The wait time was longer than expected, and it was pretty crowded. Still, the views were nice, and the crab Benedict was worth trying. A decent spot for brunch if you don't mind the tourist vibes! Great scenery tho!!

Yelp
Service was very good. Also, a good varied menu which reflected the restaurant's origin, a plantation. The grounds were a nice tranquil setting, with water wheels, ponds, and various fowl for a before or after dinner walk.

Yelp
This spot for early snacks/drinks was a very happy accident! Stopped in after our walk around The Plantation. Luckily it wasn't busy. Grabbed a quick drink at the bar and before we could finish, were seated at our table right by the pond. Excellent location! Great service, thanks Jake! Food was on point! I had the pork fried rice with OE eggs, highly recommend!!! Hubby had poke nachos, also highly recommend!! NZ Sav Blanc and he had the blond. Amazing and serene location!

Yelp
We had an opportunity to visit for dinner and had such an amazing time. We were seated outside right next to the lake and had fantastic service. Everyone was attentive and offered their favorite recommendations. Our server also offered to take our photos just before sunset. My fiancé and I took our good friends for a meal and shared several plates -- the lettuce wraps, Brussels sprouts, papaya salad, a flatbread special, and Huli Huli chicken. We ended with dessert and were so satisfied. We absolutely adore the restaurant and plantation - such a special place and a must try when visiting Maui!

Yelp
Located at the Maui Plantation, Cafe O' Lei offers an upper scale menu of steaks, seafood and more. Ordered the onion soup, chicken lettuce wraps, and New York steak. The onion soup was delicious with lots of flavor, a good amount of cheese, and a nice pastry top that went well with the soup. The lettuce wraps were good but was a bit sweet for my taste. The lettuce wraps were very fresh. The steak was delicious and the onions and mushroom cream went well with it. It was a little pricey but it was worth it for a good dish. If it wasn't too cold, the outside offers nice ambience as the inside can get a little loud. Overall, this a great restaurant that offers high quality food.

Yelp
Food quality is poor and flavor is not special. Tastes almost like mainland fruit. Service is great but food was literally moldy and bland

Yelp
Cafe O'Lei is fantastic; you get an excellent view and the outdoor breeze is nice as you eat. It's easy to make anything with bacon and avocado taste good, but the crab club is fantastic on its own. The portion of crab is generous and the bread is baked perfectly. It's somehow light, refreshing and filling all at the same time. You also get a salad with the meal, so it's very good value. I loved the onion soup; the pastry puff is delicious and unlike most French onion soups, it's not overly salty. There wasn't much onion and cheese in the soup, but I appreciate that they weren't too heavy handed with the salt. My only "complaint" is that there was a 20min wait despite nobody else waiting and the restaurant only at 30% capacity. I get that they don't want chefs to be overwhelmed by too many customers, but the front desk consistently had 3-4 staffers manning it. It's also a tad on the pricey side but that's to be expected for Hawaii.

Yelp
Went for the picturesque ambiance that included a large fish pond, green valleys and mountains within a tropical plantation setting, beyond beautiful! The hosts were friendly, the waitress was sweet and kind. I ordered the Mahimahi sautéed in lemon butter...Excellent! The fish was so fresh, flaky and cooked to perfection, the rice was soft, and the Caesar salad had the right amount of dressing to keep the romaine crisp, and it's flavor didn't overtake the flavors of the fish. It isn't a cheap dish but if you take in all the aspects that make a great eating experience, it was well worth it! My friend had the fish special and hers was also sautéed perfectly. Will come back for their fish again! Enjoy, you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
Love to come here with my family every so often. We truly enjoy the scenery, the view, the fact that we can walk around and enjoy the location before dinner. Food is always great - their Mac nut is always a hit and staff is always so timely to seat us. There was some broken glass on the floor that we hadn't noticed and they quickly cleared that up. Thank you for all of your work!
