Here’s the Restaurants Near Philly Spotlighting the Jersey Tomato

"The Mill in Kulpsville adds Jersey-centric flair to its specials roster. The restaurant offers the Caprese Turkey Burger as one of its weekly special offerings, providing an alternative for burger lovers craving a non-beef option. The sandwich offering features a turkey burger nestled high on a brioche bun and then topped with tempting culinary accouterments including red onions, burrata cheese, pesto aioli, and plump, ripe Jersey tomatoes." - Kristen Kwiatkowski

First ... very busy place and always recommend a reservation. That said they accommodated my party of 6 promptly. The waitress was amazing and making sure always everything was great. Now the food , very best fresh ingredients and great flavor on variety of all our foods. Didn't have to wait long either for the check to come. Very good night out.

The Mill is a charming restaurant with a rich history, housed in the old Kulpsville Feed Mill, built in 1894. After serving the farming community for decades and undergoing transformations, it became a family-run eatery in 1988. Renovated in 2015, "The Mill" blends historic charm with locally sourced comfort food. I ordered The Mill Melt, a BBQ chicken sandwich with caramelized onions, bacon, Gouda, and BBQ honey aioli. The flavors were fantastic, but the thick chicken breast made the last bites mostly bread and a little tough. Tenderizing the chicken to make it a little thinner (less tough) and fit the bread better would have improved the sandwich. The perfectly cooked sweet potato fries could benefit from a dipping sauce beyond basic ketchup. The staff was excellent, with prompt service and ensuring my iced tea stayed full. Overall, a great experience with minor tweaks needed for perfection!

Google
I was really disappointed with this pizza. The crust was burnt, making it hard to enjoy. The toppings were unevenly distributed and falling off, and the whole pizza was a greasy mess. It didn’t taste fresh, and for the price, I expected way better. Definitely not ordering again!

Google
We'd been meaning to go to the Mill for years and we now regret not going sooner! The shrimp crab bisque pizza was incredible! The trifecta steak sandwich was yummy. My son's chicken finger meal was phenomenal for chicken! We look forward to returning with friends! Excited about the vegetarian and gluten free options for our friends that need them. Highly recommend this place for sure. (My little guy's kids meal came with ice cream!)

Google
Saw the numerous reviews and overall high rating of 4.5/5. Decided to take out 3 pizzas for dinner. All three pizzas were severely undercooked. The dough was way too soft (like eating lunchables). The cheese was partially melted. The toppings released water. The result - greasy, watery, doughy pies that were not worth $50. Not expecting NYC style pizzas. But if your restaurant is touting wood-fired ovens, please have it be hotter than Duraflame logs.

Google
The Mill is such a great spot to go to for dinner! My girlfriend and I have the best visit each time we go. We have had the same waitress twice, Jess, who is so pleasant and personable! The hostess staff are always welcoming to us as well. The manager and other staff are constantly ensuring that the space is clean and safe for their guests. Now for the food, the portion sizes are generous! The Buffalo chicken dip might be one of the best we’ve ever had! The fries are always fresh and cut in-house too. The deconstructed strawberry shortcake is absolutely amazing. My girlfriend says it’s the best she’s ever had! We can’t wait to come back again🥰.

Google
The place is superbly cool and awesome, giving you vintage vibes with ample space on the upper level. The ambiance is good and the food as well. 1 star less for the service. It took a lot of time for us to get the food served, maybe it was peak time or not sure.

Google
We had a special request when we made the reservation at The Mill.... my grand daughter who is disabled and in a power chair needed confirmation that she would have access to the restaurant. They went above and beyond to not only accommodate our little girls entrance into the place but to set up a table in an area that was totally accessible and comfortable for not only her but all of us. The special treatment was incredible and the food!!!! It was delicious and we have made the Mill our new favorite place to go.

Yelp
I think our experience would be better if we came at a different time, anytime but dinner time. lol My friend and I came here for dinner. We ordered the crab poutine, pretzel, and a Philly cheesesteak. It took a while to come out but we enjoyed the crab poutine a lot, wish there was more cheese and crab though. The pretzel was on point! Our Philly cheesesteak took a while to come out, and it was not really worth the wait. I don't like peppers and onion in my cheesesteak so we asked for them on the side. It didn't come out that way. My friend was able to enjoy it but I couldn't with all the vegetables in there. Poutine $16 Pretzel $12 Cheesesteak $19 ($4 extra for tots) The service was good in the beginning, then it got a little bit slow. I hope when I come back the service would be more attentive and food would come out faster.

Yelp
We continue to order from here regularly. I must say they have improved on the criticisms I mentioned in the previous review. We haven't had a burnt pizza crust or incorrect order in months. Food is consistently good and the staff are very friendly. Great locally owned place.

Yelp
The food is excellent! Their wings were delicious. Actually everything we ate was fantastic! A gem in our area. Can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Really can't speak highly enough of this place. Right off the turnpike. Incredibly cozy. Really attentive, welcoming, and informative staff. And the food... the menu is just chock full of amazing options: truffle fries, poutine, cheese steaks, tots, chicken pot pie, fish tacos. I opted for the beet and goat cheese salad with salmon on top. Honestly the salmon was slightly overdone for my tastes but it was very filling. And the salad was delicious. For an appetizer we had the poutine with Old Bay seasoning and crab on top. My travel buddy got a cheese steak and the bits I had were great. Everything we had was very filling and they don't skimp on portions. I'm pretty sure I'll come back any time I fly into Philly and drive to Central PA!

Yelp
Our server Logan suggested the fish tacos oh yeah! Amazing, My Hubby ordered a mango avocado bowl which was very generous in portion and delicious. I remembered the food being good when they opened years ago. We recently moved back to the area. My Husband and I thought we would give it a try & man I was impressed. Traveling the world eating in the finest of places the food at the Mill is at the top of my list for great food. The ambience was Rustic architecture is a style of interior design with wooden beams accentuated by brick walls and nice candles on the table the flatware was wrapped in twine ,As a Realtor I'll be sure to give my clients a gift certificate for this byob restaurant.

Yelp
Food is always good - definitely the best all around restaurant in the area!!! The Sweetie Pie pizza is great and the seasonal specials like mango or shrimp tacos are better than some of the Mexican restaurants in the area!

Yelp
Met my mom here for dinner recently. Depending on when you read this will depend on how recent. The food is really great. For starters we got the crabby poutine fries. They were delicious. Thick cut fries with old bay, liquidy cheese and crab meat. I got the Mill Melt and for $2 extra I made it a wrap. The slapped 1/2 a chicken Breast in that sucker. The BBQ aioli was very different. It created a bbq touch that wasn't thick or overpowering. My mom got the Bickle's Pickle's cheese steak and she loved it. Looked like a lot of food. Both sandwiches came with their hand made potato chips. These were awesome and had a hint of an apple taste to them. Like they were cooked in the same place as apples. It wasn't strong. It was like 4% of the taste. Hardly noticeable but there. We got out of there for only $44. That's hard to do these days. Easier if neither of you drink. Now the reason it isn't 5 stars... The deliver of the food was very confused. Possibly new. They tried delivering everyone's food to the wrong tables. Every time. We had to call to them and let them know it was us. Other tables had to do the same. Maybe the person was new. We got our food way before we got silverware and napkins. Normally the tables are already set but nothing was out here. No salt, pepper, ketchup. Not easy to get a refill on water. Now if you are reading this and it's your restaurant DO NOT assume it's your staff. Maybe they need better training or you need more people working the weeknight shift.

Yelp
Ordered takeout from The Mill last night (Wednesday). We got chicken tenders & fries and the Frenchie. I really appreciate that the chicken tender are made in-house. You can definitely tell the difference in comparison to other places in the area that use the frozen ones. It would be great if the chicken tenders had more flavor tho. The Frenchie was delicious! It doesn't need the au jus, but that just added another layer to it. It's creamy & onion-y, but not over the top. My only negatives are: 1- the fries do not stand up well in the takeout containers even when travel time is only 5 minutes. I know fries get soggy in transit, in general, but this is different. They're boardwalk fries so they could stand to be fried an extra minute or 2 and left to cool slightly before tossing in the takeout containers. 2- this issue is likely with toastab (the online ordering site) and not The Mill, but they charge $.50 for ketchup and there was no ketchup in the bag. The Mill has packets of ketchup next to the register for the taking, so the charge seems odd.

Yelp
I want lucky enough to grab a table but to-go was good enough. Kind staff, cute place, and really really amazing food! Can't wait to be in the area again!

Yelp
We had a great lunch at The Mill. Two of us had the Eggplant Bruschetta sandwich and I had the Truffle Bacon Pizza, all delish. We started off with the Loaded Poutine (see photo) which were to die for. I want to go back and just do a French fry buffet with all of their delicious options!

Yelp
Great food, quick service, friendly staff, plenty of room, and good prices. Xxxxxxxxxx.

Yelp
We've been here a number of times and food is consistently good (4 stars) but service has been going downhill and our recent visit was horrible (1 star). It's the slow service that may just keep me from coming back. Arrived and was seated promptly for our 6:30 reservation. After sitting there for 15 minutes with zero acknowledgement from any server, we finally got up to find someone who could at least get us some drinks. About 10 minutes after that, our waitress showed up with our drinks. So a total of 25 minutes after arriving before we got our drinks! We ordered at the same time she delivered our drinks. We ordered one appetizer--garlic knots. About 20 minutes after ordering, the waitress said our knots should be out shortly. About 10 minutes later, she offered us complimentary chips while we continued to wait on our knots. Our knots finally came out about 40 minutes from when we ordered. Fortunately, our main entrees weren't too far behind (maybe another 10-15 minutes). Not sure what was going on but we literally saw another table who was seated after us complete their meal and leave before we ever got our entrees. They did comp one of our pizzas for the delay, which I do appreciate. But the slow service is something we've experienced on our last 3-4 visits. Whether we are waiting on our waitress, on drink refills, or our meals...we always seem to be waiting. Hopefully they can get this sorted out as the food is really good.

Yelp
We love this place! Food is delicious! Staff was on point today & authentically friendly! Great decor & ambience! Though I didn't get pizza today, One of my favorite things about this place is that they are the only pizza shop in the area that offers DAIRY FREE cheese along with GLUTEN free pizza crust! A lot of place have gluten free pizza but don't consider the other restrictions people may have! Kudos to you guys! Thank you for always helping make our meals out wonderful. (Ps though Violife Dairy Free Cheese is better then Daiya )
google avatar

Yelp
The food here is always good! Staff are always friendly and place always clean. As an appetizer we always share the cheese steak egg rolls

Yelp
Amazing lunch spot on a Friday at work. I keep taking new co-workers and they're hooked immediately. If you like that not super fancy, but somewhat fancy place, this is it. I have gotten anything from their cold sandwiches, hot sandwiches, brick oven pizzas, and salads and all haven't disappointed. Pros: -Online ordering -Great customer service and quick delivery -The upstairs decor and ambiance is incredible. BYOB -Have yet to have a bad meal Cons: -Parking (which is out of their control) No need to say that I'll be back many, many, and yet even many more times. CF

Yelp
What a fantastic place! Loved the upstairs space (especially all decorated for Halloween). Service super friendly and the prices were very reasonable. BYO is a cinch with a great beer store right down the street. Plain cheese pizza (cooked perfectly and delish), an enormous Greek Salad with nice light dressing and their seasonal item, Zombie Brains which was bowl made from their pizza dough, loaded with sausage, pepperoni, sauce and a couple bone breadsticks too! We will be back before too long.

Yelp
Absolutely loved our meal at The Mill! The grilled pear salad was the perfect combo of sweet and savory. Our group also tried a variety of the sandwiches, the wings (some of the best I've ever had!) and the soft pretzel appetizer. This spot has great ambiance - good for groups or for a date night. Easy parking in the back and they also do takeout business. BYOB.

Yelp
We arrived for a 5:30PM reservation for 4 people and were seated promptly so a good start. 15 minutes later (no water, nothing) the waitress comes, takes our appetizer order. 10 minutes later, a food runner brings the appetizer and our water. 25 minutes just to get water and an appetizer. 15 minutes later the waitress takes our food order. 40 minutes so far, 1 glass of water and an appetizer. It took another 40 minutes for our food to arrive (1:20 total) and get more water . 2 burgers, 2 "hot" sandwiches. All 4 were lukewarm, the top buns were dry and crisp, the sides were also lukewarm. It was obvious that all 4 meals sat under a heat lamp for an extended amount of time. It's a shame because the food was actually flavorful. If it had been served on time and hot, it probably would have been fine. No one stopped by to see how the food was...not the waitress, not a manager, no one. Luckily the food runner filled our water glasses. The waitress didn't come by until we were done eating, another 25+ minutes. To give some context, a group of 8 was seated after us, got their drinks, appetizers, food, finished eating and ordered dessert before we even got our food. $86 before tip for an appetizer, 4 lukewarm meals, water, and terrible service. Close to 2 hours total. Absolutely ridiculous. I can't imagine ever returning and certainly would never recommend The Mill to anyone.

Yelp
Worst restaurant experience in my life! Both of our pizzas were bland. But that's not even 1 percent of it.... This Saturday afternoon we sat on the first floor which I learned after sitting that it's right next to the kitchen. We kept hearing these loud bangs repeatedly which were also heard by from another party near us. It sounded to all of us like they were moving things around and not from cooking. We couldn't take it anymore and told our waitress to please tell the kitchen staff to stop that. Our waitress told the kitchen staff to stop and they did and we didn't hear it again. A few minutes later the manager wearing a black shirt with glasses, tells us he doesn't know what we heard but the kitchen is just cooking. Tells us he doesn't believe we heard anything and that we were likely making it up. Never says sorry or anything, then he walks out 20 feet, I told my companion he could've "at least said sorry for your inconvenience", he apparently heard that, then turned around, walked back to our table aggressively. He said "what was that?" I then said "you're a manager, you should at the very least say sorry for our inconvenience since we are so close to the kitchen", He said "Well I still don't know what you heard or if you heard anything." I said, "It doesn't matter what the circumstances are, I'm a customer, treat me with respect. And if you don't believe that we heard anything, ask the other party 15 feet away if they heard it. That's rude you don't believe us." He then said "It sounds like you're only interested in arguing." I said "Go away please!" He then said, "You will not shut me out" I didn't deserve this. I'm never going back to this restaurant as long as that manager works there. They should also change their format or do something to ensure customers don't hear the kitchen. Maybe don't let customers sit near the kitchen? My companion i was with has bad arthritis, so it wasn't like we had the opportunity to walk upstairs all those steps.

J. M.

Yelp
Finally able to find parking space. Good thing people come and go for takeout so parking opens up. Come early or late for lunch. Steps to upstairs rustic decorated dining room. Great food with great server. Some dining tables downstairs if you're unable to navigate steps.

Alan R.

Yelp
Excellent food, great service, old Pennsylvania stone building ambiance. Would definitely recommend.

Yelp
Gosh, where to begin. We love this place. Feels like home away from home. The food is wonderful. My husband and I are "foodies" and honestly would rather come here than more "fancy" restaurants in the area. You know your meal will be good...scratch that it will be great. The portions are large and the presentation is always thoughtful. The staff is always nice and you can see they work hard to make everything relaxing for the patrons. I'm actually waiting for them to open so I can call and make my reservation!!!
google avatar

Thea M.

Yelp
Please stop putting cinnamon and sugar on potato chips. It was awful. Otherwise the food is good. The service is always slow, but that seems like a kitchen pacing issue, not a waitstaff issue.
google avatar

Neil W.

Yelp
I'm here on business and was walking by the Mill when I smelled delicious pizza, so I stopped in to place an order. First of the all, the staff is incredibly friendly and obviously enjoy working here. The menu is loaded with pizzas, salads, sandwiches and a variety of other freshly cooked meals. This is a gold mine and I'll definitely return for another meal. I had a pizza and the Beet salad and it was a very large serving and as delicious as I expected and hoped for!! Try it!

Alan S.

Yelp
Both food and service were very good. The price point was very reasonable five minutes.

Eileen C.

Yelp
A warm, inviting place with excellent food and service. The upstairs dining room is my personal favorite spot. So rustic!! The pizza is amazing. I love the goat cheese and beet salad. Reasonably priced menu.
google avatar

Chris G.

Yelp
Excellent food with several vegan options, including pizza! Had the special last night - VEGAN BUFFALO NUGGET PIZZA is a white pizza made with Daiya Vegan Mozzarella cheese and topped with "Raised & Root" Plant-based nuggets tossed franks hot sauce. This was SO good!!! They offer it again, I'll get it again. Keep the vegan options coming!!!! :-)
google avatar

Tiffany C.

Yelp
Food was so good! My fiancé always orders The Frenchie! The pizza was delicious and the Poutine was so good as well. Have eaten here a few times.. Always quick and delicious! Highly recommend! A+
google avatar

Dana S.

Yelp
The Mill never disappoints and is a family favorite. From sandwiches to pizza, I've never had a poor meal. Their customer service and staff are extraordinary and work hard to create an enjoyable environment. Order the Reuben fries, you'll thank me later!
google avatar

Krist C.

Yelp
We eat dinner here often and have never been disappointed. Love the pizza and salads. Ambiance is warm and rustic. Service could be improved
google avatar

Peter N.

Yelp
This place is great for wood fired pizza. We typically get take out, but the general vibe of the place is small local and casual. Really nuanced and tasty pizza with great flavors. There is only one pizza oven so it's a bit of a wait for orders- but the pizza is worth it.
google avatar

Theresa A.

Yelp
I love The Mill! I've been going here for a very long time. They have great pizza, wings and cheese steaks!!
google avatar

Serena G.

Yelp
Great food, BYOB, quaint ambiance and courteous servers. I found myself very happy with the spread of pizzas and other dishes offered, even with a little grease to spread around. I also loved the dessert. My belly and my wallet were happy and I look forward to coming back!
google avatar

ben m.

Yelp
We had one of the best tasting pizzas ever. We tried the Peachy Pizza which sounded interesting at first. Let me tell you, it was sweet and savory and hit the spot on a hot muggy PA afternoon. It was light and refreshing as much as a pizza could be. Nice pizza place. We will return next time we are back to visit family.
google avatar

Kevin M.

Yelp
So incredibly good. Great service, too. Street Corn Pizza, hot honey pepperoni pizza, salads, apps. All great. Can't go wrong. Get a reservation, though!
google avatar

Steve C.

Yelp
Minus the long wait a hour plus for take out this place is a win win !! It's BYOB which is prefect for a date night , if you can try to eat upstairs ...
google avatar

Leanne C.

Yelp
Delicious pizza! Have never eaten there, not much parking. Closed on Mondays. Worth a try for the wood fired pizza.
google avatar

Colleen M.

Yelp
We love the pizza here specially the white seafood and butternut pizza. We had the tomato crab bisque and the frenchie today . That was a great combo. They make their own onion dip to put on the frenchie. The service very good and friendly. So if you like a family friendly place to dine and great food with a flair you should stop here!!!!

Colleen S.

Yelp
My husband and I LOVE LOVE LOVE this BYOB. I almost hesitated writing this review because I'm afraid it will be hard to get a reservation once the word gets out. The quaintness of this former mill, is my happy place after a busy day at work, especially on rainy nights. The big fireplace upstairs adds to the coziness. The servers work very hard and always make us feel like family. We have never had a bad meal. Our favorites are the wood-fired wings, "The Ticket" pizza with red sauce and the apple bacon pizza. A month doesn't go by without a craving for these. Every time we venture from the norm and try something new, it makes it that much harder to choose the next time we visit! We love that they are offering new weekly creations that keep pulling us in. You will not be disappointed!
google avatar

Dina D.

Yelp
Great place. Food is really good and they make different dishes! It's a great cozy place. They have friendly staff!
google avatar

Joanne M.

Yelp
Make you get reservations for dinner . Food is good but I was a party of 1 and they rejected me even with those with reservations after me . Food is really good . Great pizza .
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
Cool place to grab a meal. The layout is a little odd with takeout/grill downstairs. We went upstairs and had a nice meal. My wife's turkey wrap was huge and delicious as was the shrimp tacos (three generous size and VG). The crab soup was good but a bit unexpected in tomato base ... I guess it worked? The wait staff was terrific!
google avatar

Tiffany S.

Yelp
BYOB is a plus. Food is consistently good. Kitchen was super slow tonight and there weren't that many parties in the dining room. Sat at 6p. Placed orders by 6:25p. Drunken crab poutine came out at reasonable time but the rest of the orders (sammies, pizza and wings) came out at 7:20p,

Yelp
Every once in a while you happen onto a place for no good reason but you're very glad you did. The Mill is one such place. After a trip to the Philly airport I decided to tour the USS New Jersey battleship in Camden, NJ. Be the time I was done and heading back to the Lehigh Valley it was 3:00 and I had yet to eat today. A super friendly staff produced my stone-fired custom pizza in 10 minutes and it was delicious. I don't get to see that about Pennsylvania pizza very often, but this self-described pizza snob from upstate New York gives this pizza at 10. I can't wait for my next trip to Philly so I can stop at The Mill again and look at the more expanded menu for what I'm sure will be a fantastic meal. Definitely worth a quick stop off of Route 476 if you are in the area.
google avatar

Christian M.

Yelp
The Mill is an excellent BYOB with a creative menu and amazing specials that change regularly. Their cheesesteaks, pizza, and wings are all fantastic and their service is great. Recommended to call a day in advance for reservations for the weekend because they often fill up. If only they didn't follow Chick fil A rules and close for half of the weekend dining days!

Dale S.

Yelp
Well, over an hour, we were there for just pizza and fries. It took about ten minutes to eat one piece of room temperature pizza (supposed wood fired) and fries after the fries went to the wrong table. After mentioning the waitress and what we witnessed, she brought the same room temperature fries to us that apparently sat back in the kitchen. Pizza was ok, cooked but not true wood fired. The same look appeared on everyone's face as they waited. Food tasted ok. Mediocre visit.
google avatar

Yelp
First visit. Very friendly staff and Awesome food!!! We started with The Mill egg rolls, which were awesome cheesesteak egg rolls w spicy ketchup. Crispy outside fantastic inside. I had the margarita pizza and I added olives, chicken, and carmelized onions. It was in the top 10 pizzas in my life! They had a ribs special that my husband ordered that was incredible with meat that was so tender! Will definitely be back! Only 4star bc we prefer places that have a liquor license. Everyone- customers and staff were following all the the health and safety rules.

Jen R.

Yelp
What can I say about the Mill. The food is delicious. The portions are great, and the price is very good. The staff and Danielle the owner are wonderful people. They treat you like family. My family and I drive 45 minutes to get some of the best food in the area. The creation that they come up with is amazing. Must try the FRENCHIE, STREET CORN PIZZA. POUTINE FRIES, THE MILL MELT are just some of our favorite. Trust me you will love the food.
