11 Best Coffee Shops in Lisbon | Condé Nast Traveler

"The Mill, an Australian-Portuguese café, is Lisbon's answer to the global Aussie brekkie movement. There's a long communal table with bar stools, a wall lined with wine bottles, and a gleaming espresso machine churning out rich specialty coffees. An all-day breakfast menu offers Aussie favorites like avocado toast, piri piri chicken salad, and Vegemite toast. On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, brunch has heartier dishes like the Sydney breakfast: a corn fritter with poached eggs, avocado, and cheese." - Todd Plummer

Google
We've been here 3 times during our visit to Lisbon. It's a fabulous cafe with a menu with so many great choices that make it difficult to choose. We've had the power oatmeal, the salmon omelet, the classic breakfast, and lots of different drinks. Everything has been delicious. Our servers have been quick, efficient, and charming.

Google
The coffee was amazing, the food exceptional, and the service super friendly. The owner was often there, always kind and welcoming. Loved the smoked salmon bagel and the blueberry pancakes — both incredible! Such a cozy, vibrant place to relax. Highly recommend!

Google
Good service. Clean and cozy place. You can see the cable tram come up. The avocado sourdough is fresh and tasty. Flat white is my favourite. Highly recommend.

Google
Pretty small and cute cafe. Food and coffee were great. I loved it when they put orange peel in the ice latte. You can see the historical yellow tram while you are eating.

Google
Stumbled upon this place, cause our AirBnB apartment ist right around the corner. Let me tell you... Its amazing here. The coffee is incredible and the breakfast food is absolutely stunning. Its not the cheapest place to get your breakfast, but to me one of the tastiest around. Service is also very friendly!

Google
Food was nice. The classic breakfast was good and my wife took scrambled eggs with salmon. Also 2 apperols(not the biggest size, but was good). Bit overpriced, but we were hungry, so did not looked for other breakfast place.

Google
The Mill was one of my favorite cafés in Lisbon! It’s super cozy inside – there’s a large open window at the front, and we were lucky to sit right there. You get fresh air, a nice view outside, and a really relaxed, comfortable vibe. The food was absolutely delicious, everything tasted great. The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming – it felt really warm and personal. I also picked up a tote bag that says The Mill and Lisboa – it’s minimalist and stylish, a perfect souvenir without looking like a typical tourist item. I’d been looking for something like that the whole trip! Definitely a great spot for brunch – highly recommended.

Google
Nice option for breakfast though i didnt feel comfortable with the place atmosphere as we shared the common table they do have some private table which was fully occupied The food and service are one of the best Clean though the kitchen is open to the hall but there isnt any cooking smell Reasonable price Small place Good to try

Yelp
Food was delicious. Service was on point and the ambiance was relaxing. Will be back!

Yelp
Cool little breakfast spot on an off the main drag corner of Lisbon. Simple menu with big flavor. Drink menu as well.

Yelp
On some travel website noticed this delicious place I felt great artistic atmosphere with airy white interior and when if a few days visited it from overseas, I sat at their giant panoramic window enjoying yellow Lisbon funiculars while drinking Mill's fresh coffee with pancakes and then juice. It's a great atmospheric and delicious place to visit in Lisbon. Cheers!

Yelp
They have a great promotion where you can buy a bag of coffee beans and get a free coffee. It was a good pit stop in the rain. I enjoyed my coffee. It seems full of tourists, but the vibe was fine with me. Service was friendly.

Senaid T.

Yelp
Amazing coffee, great food, and super friendly service. The owner's often around and always so kind and welcoming. The vibe is lively but still chill and watching the cable car roll by makes it even better. Definitely one of my favorite spots in Lisbon!

Yelp
Cute little breakfast spot near many of the many attractions in the center of Lisbon. Opens relatively early. Coffee and food were both tasty. It seems to be filled with mostly tourists and that probably explains the higher prices. Servers were very friendly.

Yelp
First Impressions: super cute and cozy... would fit right in if it were in Brooklyn or NYC. Clean aesthetic with tasteful decor. Staff was super nice and friendly The Noms: Smoked salmon omelette - salmon was generous and portions were filling. I just wish they put the salmon on top of the omelette so it doesn't get all warmed up from the hot eggs Avocado toast - I can make this way better at home but my sister was craving it. I will say their roasted cherry tomatoes were ever good with a bit of salt and pepper on them B(e)LT - bacon was crisp and portions were generous. I hate when BLTs skimp on the bacon but this spot was good. Pepper jam was really good with the sandwich. Fried egg was just a tad over done and not as much runny yolk as I'd like. Still good tho Banana bread with berries and cream - this was a highlight of the meal. We shared two slices of this and it was the perfect ending to brunch. Not too sweet, the slightly tart berries snd cool cream really made this a top "dessert" experience for me I'm Conclusion: 10/10!" Would recommend. Very filling and satisfying as well. Came on my last morning in Lisbon but would have happily come here for breakfast all the other days I was here if I'd found out about it sooner.

Yelp
A thoroughly wonderful breakfast. I had this banana bread with mascarpone and berries, my wife had the small chia bowl. We both had great flat whites. Our server was delightful, she took as much time chatting as we wanted. Highly recommended!
google avatar

Yelp
Absolutely the best breakfast we had the whole time in Portugal and that included staying at a resort in Algarve. The bacon and egg sandwich was bomb! Very fulfilling, on a fresh bagel and the bacon was crisp and truly hand-cut! Then the flat white coffee was so good that I ordered 2! Going back here again one more time on Tuesday before we leave!
google avatar

Danny R.

Yelp
I loved the smoked salmon omelette that I went back twice for it:) it was a good decent size breakfast to not leave you uncomfortable full. It's a clean spot in Lisbon and close to attractions you can walk to afterwards. The coffee was tasty too and staff were very friendly.
google avatar

Hemanth D.

Yelp
What a first breakfast for us in Lisbon in this nice little coffee shop. We ordered a bunch of things as you can see in the pictures. Everything tasted great. Everything was a bit pricy as it costed us 40+ euro for the breakfast but it was well worth it. Portions were great. So was taste. Not too salty, not too sweet, not too greasy. It was just so healthy and tasty. I can't get over the fact that olive oil tastes so refreshing anywhere I eat here. The guy at that cafe was super nice. He helped with some questions for our trip to Sintra and recommended me to use Bolt instead of Uber.

Yelp
The food and service was great at The Mill. The restaurant is small so seating is tight, but overall a great place for a coffee or breakfast.

Majek A.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast! Smoked salmon omelette, Bagel sandwich, pancakes! Everyone In our group was exceedingly happy.

Jen C.

Yelp
Food was fantastic! The blueberry pancakes are the best I have ever had, and my friend thought the Classic brunch was good as well! Service was friendly, ambiance was lively and overall a great experience!
google avatar

Lia M.

Yelp
I stayed across the street from The Mill and was mad that I did not visit more often. The Mill is a hip, trendy cafe with a great ambience. I was able to visit twice and really enjoyed it. It does get busy, so you will likely have a wait. The first time, I came in the afternoon, and ordered a cappucino and some toast. I had just arrived from an awful plane ride and was looking forward to relaxing. The cappuccino was great but my toast never arrived. My server eventually said something to me, but at that point, I didn't want it. I returned the next morning and ordered a cappuccino and the blueberry pancakes. Again, a perfect cappuccino and the pancakes (we'd probably think of them more as a Dutch baby) were tasty and filling. I wanted to return to try the avocado toast, but didn't get to. When I return to Lisbon, I will be back here.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best places for brunch - we did takeout and they were so accommodating! The coffee is AMAZING
google avatar

Stephanie S.

Yelp
This place is fantastic. Gui made the best mocha I have ever had.. ever!! The food was perfect, the service was quick and extremely friendly! Two thumbs up and 5 stars!!

Deborah H.

Yelp
Great little cafe!! OMG! I wish I was staying another night so I could come back to this place in the morning. The service was great. The atmosphere is simple, clean, and fun. The mocha was delicious! In Melbourne toast with avocado, poached egg and roasted tomatoes was delicious. And the toasted banana bread with mascarpone and red berries was amazing. It was a perfect beginning to our day! Pictures of Pokémon supervisor yes

Yelp
I stayed in Lisbon for a week and ended up coming here twice for breakfast, and it was perfect for what I wanted. While I was in town, I tried really hard to have an authentic Portugal experience. I ate lots of pastiel de nata and visited lots of restaurants with no English menus. So, that being said, let's get this straight: The Mill isn't an authentic Portugal experience haha. I wouldn't say there were many if any locals there. But that's ok, and their seating style leaves you open to meeting other tourists from all over the world. It was nice for that. The atmosphere is trendy, upscale-ish hipstery vibes, which felt very familiar to me, coming from Seattle. The espresso was some of the best I had while I was in Lisbon and didn't disappoint. The food, too, was great, and made with love. The Portuguese don't eat many veggies when they dine out, and that's exactly why I'd picked this place. Their menu features some healthier options, so if you're feeling over-full from all the meat 'n' potatoes of Lisbon you can handle (and salt cod) give this place a shot.
google avatar

Reiko S.

Yelp
Great service and a wide selection on the breakfast menu. The cappuccino was phenomenal.
google avatar

Nataly K.

Yelp
It's a nice place for brunch or breakfast. For coffee I would give even 7 stars. I found this place in a blog about Portugal. The food was ok but nothing special. I would definitely come back for coffee here but not for the food. My avocado toast had so much lime that I didn't taste anything else. Service is very friendly.
google avatar

Ben P.

Yelp
Delicious food, great menu with a wide brunch selection. The servers were very attentive and nice, and the space was cozy. Cute spot with cool decorations.
google avatar

Eden M.

Yelp
This was one of my favorite healthy brunch places to stop and eat so far in my Europe trip, I had the banana bread with mascarpone, and an iced coffee with the orange peel and oat milk. I've never had coffee with orange flavor inside, and now it's one of my favorite combinations. All the staff was super friendly, and the menu had so many options, I wish I was hungrier so I could've ordered more. Next time I'm in Lisbon I'm definitely coming again
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and fresh and wonderful breakfast and brunch spot. Had a smoke salmon omelette, which was awesome. Lively and nice. Really good pick.
google avatar

Gabrielle N.

Yelp
Came here for breakfast as it was close to our hostel. Was very impressed by the service, the menu selections, and the pricing was fair. We ordered two coffees, one smoothie, and the Melbourne breakfast to share. The smoothie and breakfast were delicious! The coffee was really not my taste. Not sure what they use but it might not be for everyone. Bitter and some fruity notes in it. The chairs at the window bar a bit wobbly. Overall a really great experience.
google avatar

Abhilasha Y.

Yelp
The best place to have breakfast, coffee or any healthy food...... During our 3 days stay in Lisbon, we ate here twice and everytime we had delicious food with great service. The avocado to toast, omlettes, roasted cherry tomatoes, fried eggs were our all time favorites. The fresh squeezed orange juice is a must have. The service was excellent and food just perfect .
google avatar

Carol N.

Yelp
Love this place. Did not know it is so popular - line was out the door. Juanna our server was so friendly and wonderful. Coffee was great (we ordered the flat whites) and breakfast cooked to perfection. We also love that the owner hand painted all the plates and bowls for the shop. So beautiful!!
google avatar

Mimosa S.

Yelp
This is my favorite brunch spot in Lisbon. It competes against a number of other amazing cafes and hipster restaurant, but consistently delivers incredible service, delicious food, and a friendly environment that makes you feel at home. I can't say there is anything I wouldn't recommend on the menu but I love the full breakfast.

Yelp
First word that I want to put out there for The Mill is AWESOME! Awesome food, awesome service. This was the first meal I had in Lisbon. Came straight from the airport and arrived here around 10:00 and the place was packed! I felt so awkward dragging in my large suitcase and duffle bag... but luckily, the waiters did not mind at all (probably was a norm for them by now) and allowed me to leave my stuff by the entrance where there were already a few smaller luggages. My friend and I were seated immediately since there were 2 empty seats right in front of the window. The stool was a little unsteady; mainly because it was high and wasn't quite big enough for someone to sit comfortably. Anyway, I got the avocado toast, which, as an avocado lover, you can never go wrong with choosing. I also got some tea since I was anticipating to stay here for a while (Couldn't check-in to our AirBnB until 13:00...). I received a personal teapot, which poured about 4 cups. My avocado toast was good. The bread was a little hard to cut through, but I'm putting most of the blame on the dull knife. Avocado was fresh and serving size was perfect. I was given plenty of avocado per slice of toast. A small side salad came with my meal; the greens weren't the freshest, but they weren't inedible. My friend and I stayed here for 2 hours, maybe even a little longer than that. We stayed all through breakfast/brunch rush hour, which made me feel a bit guilty and selfish, but in our defense, none of the parties waiting for seats were in a group of 2 so giving up our seats in front of the window wouldn't have made a difference. Nonetheless, the waitress who was serving us did not seem to mind us staying even after our food was long gone and only a sip of cold tea was left in my cup.

Yelp
Such a great little cafe. We stumbled upon it while waiting to check into our Airbnb. And couldn't believe it when we ran into an old friend from SF! Felt like I was at a coffee shop in SF, the staff speaks English and Spanish. Food is really good. Went for breakfast every day of our stay. Coffee so good too. Known for their beautiful cappuccino's. you can order for take away or grab a seat for table service.
google avatar

Khayam H.

Yelp
This Aussie-Portuguese breakfast place was a beautiful discovery during our jaunt to Lisbon. Bruno was excellent with his service. The classic breakfast and scrambled eggs with avocados hot just the right spot. Highly recommended is also their avocado smash. Don't leave without trying their freshly squeezed orange juice.
google avatar

Emily L.

Yelp
What a great stop for brunch! Friendly service, trendy atmosphere, and good coffee/food. The mocha was especially notable with very fresh cocoa - best I've ever had! Really enjoyed the eggs, mushrooms, and smashed avocado with the best crusty bread. Seems like we were lucky to sit down right away! I'd definitely go back!
google avatar

Alexis N.

Yelp
Stopped here for breakfast before heading to Sintra for an all day excursion. It's nice to find a breakfast restaurant that opens before 9 am! The service and ambiance were great, as was our meal. I had avocado toast with grilled halloumi on it and it filled me up for our big day out. Great matcha latte as well!
google avatar

Yelp
Great breakfast/brunch spot and worth schlepping up the hill for. Small place with the obligatory queue outside the door for places like this on a pleasant October Wednesday morning. Clientele comprising mostly visitors to town. After a 15 minute wait enlivened by passing vintage trams packed to the gills with tourists we were seated at a bench table with a number of other people. Full 'Irish' breakfast for moi and granola and banana bread for my companion were swiftly delivered together with pretty decent white coffees. The Portuguese bacon in my breakfast was particularly noteworthy and the listed fried egg was substituted by a scrambled one with no fuss. Great setup for the day. Highly recommended but be prepared to wait. My guess is it'd be even worse at weekends.

Nadine F.

Yelp
3.5 stars We liked The Mill enough to have breakfast there three times during our short stay. The espresso drinks were fantastic. I also loved their scrambled eggs and sourdough toast. The Anzac biscuit and mojito bar (like a lemon bar with mint) were delicious. Their hot sauce was legit. The avocados weren't exactly ripe, but I'm not sure they could have found better ones in this area. The espresso machine was down one day, but there wasn't much they could do about that. However, one thing was absolutely horrendous and unforgivable. They had huevos rancheros on the menu, which is one of my all-time favorite breakfast dishes. I was expecting corn tortillas, eggs, refried beans, cheese, and all the normal things that go into huevos rancheros. Instead, I received what appeared to be a soup made of canned kidney beans and cut up sausage that tasted something like bad canned chili, topped with an egg. This was so awful and so far from huevos rancheros that they would be better off not including it on the menu at all. I don't understand why they would even offer this as a menu item if it doesn't resemble huevos rancheros at all. (Disclaimer: I'm from Texas.) Still, I can't give this place a poor review, because everything other than the huevos rancheros was good.
google avatar

Eliah M.

Yelp
Cute spot for a great breakfast to fill you for the day. It's better to get there as early as possible because seating is limited. I would recommend getting the blueberry pancakes with bacon.
google avatar

Steph J.

Yelp
If you want a good breakfast and good coffee, this is the spot to grab it whilst in Lisbon. Thanks to my friend who must only have coffee at hipster joints (yes, who only appreciates the finer things in life), we discovered the Mill. It was fresh, delicious, and quite inexpensive by my American standards. I had a latte which was nothing less fantastic. Honestly, go with any dish and you probably can't go wrong. I was drooling over the other plates passing me by.
google avatar

Mirror J.

Yelp
There will be a line after 9am. Went there alone and was arranged with a stranger face to face at the long table. It was the most awkward but funny breakfast I've ever had. But the food was very nice and well presented. Staffs were very attentive.
google avatar

Jessica S.

Yelp
Probably my favorite breakfast spot in Lisbon. Please note you have to put your name on a list and then wait for a table. The place is fairly small and packed. That being said the food is delicious. Also, they sell the plates they serve their food on - the dish ware is actually very simple but beautiful and from my understanding, hand made. Also, they have a coffee/juice spot across the little square - in case you need to get a coffee fix while waiting for a table.
google avatar

Ange R.

Yelp
Super fresh, healthy and delicious. Reminds me of California brunch. We will be back to try more of the menu- everything we had was superb!
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
Super busy, but the wait moves fast. Great, filling " American-styled " breakfast and awesome coffee. I ate every last thing on my plate. Definitely worth it if you're looking for a hearty breakfast to balance out the Pastel de Natas.
google avatar

Dorota B.

Yelp
Nice place for breakfast/brunch but with great coffee. The service and food was really great but overall a little to pricey
google avatar

Micah E.

Yelp
A delicious little Aussie cafe in the middle of Lisbon-when we got there, we had to wait a few minutes for a table, but were seated quickly. The staff was so friendly and helpful, and the food was delicious and the coffee was amazing. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Auston B.

Yelp
This place was ! I would percent recommend it. The menu had me like: . If you're ever in Lisbon, this is a breakfast spot!
google avatar

Irene L.

Yelp
I've visited a handful of cafes in Lisbon and the Mill was one of my favorites!!! The interior is very clean and has strong Scandinavian vibes. It was relatively full at 2 PM but I was able to quickly get a seat. Foodwise, the banana bread was DIIIIIVINE. I think it was a seasonal special. All the flavors, the maracapone cream, berries, honey, nuts, and banana worked harmoniously! The cherry on top was that IT WAS WARM. I also enjoyed the beautiful, minimalistic cutlery. (It's the little details that count!!)
google avatar

C K.

Yelp
Who wouldn't like this place? We happened to live briefly five minutes from The Mill. Every morning from 7:30 am people start to queue up outside. Lisboa is one of the most tourist friendly city in Europe. BUT, inside this breakfast place, it is UN in Portugal with crowds from all parts of the world . The servers speak different tongues. The food is fresh beautifully prepared and tasty. People sitting at the communal table say Hi and chatting away. What a lovely way to start your day! A big smile.
google avatar

Nathalie W.

Yelp
I'm very particular about my long blacks and this is the only cafe I have found so far in Lisbon that does it just the way I like it.

M. B.

Yelp
Average food and nothing Portuguese about it including the people who go there, only visiting tourists

Frank B.

Yelp
Quality food and great service. The seating is tight, so if you're looking for wide open spaces, might not be a good fit. Gets crowded so come early.
