"Whilst the narrow lane getting here can be a challenge, once you arrive it feels like you’ve discovered a tiny utopia. Situated in the most delightful hamlet, this characterful pub fits in perfectly among the bucolic cottages. The concise menu never overcomplicates things, with honest, ingredient-led dishes that are all the more appealing for their simplicity. Fine produce is at the heart of it all, with lamb and beef coming from the owners’ Fowlescombe Farm 10 miles away – and crab from Salcombe just up the road. You can stay the night in one of their two nearby cottages." - Michelin Inspector

Booked for Sunday lunch as heard good things but was generally disappointed. Service was great, and atmosphere was nice, but the food was average at best. Whole meal was lukewarm, almost cold. Roast beef comprised a small portion of shavings of overdone meat and potatoes looked like they had been cooked the day before. Weren’t the only ones to notice as overheard table opposite saying similar.

I can’t tell you how much we loved this place, the food was fantastic, the place is quirky, we were instantly greeted with a warm welcome by a smiley short stout irish man in apron, he was very welcoming, he showed us to our table and made us feel instantly relaxed (I think he was called Joe,) he was very busy making sure everything was done to perfection, he has very high standards and takes a lot of pride in his work.) we will definitely come here again, the service was fantastic, the young staff were very efficient and attentive, they paid attention to detail and made everything perfect for our family reunion. A fantastic end to a fantastic weekend with my adult children that were visiting from the north. Can’t wait to return, the duck parfait was unreal, I could eat it for breakfast lunch and tea. I dislike parsnips but I tried them and they were delicious, as much as I hate to admit it. Unfortunately we couldn’t fit in a desert, but we will return to try and main and desert next time. Joe and his team were fantastic! Thoroughly recommend!!!

Booked for lunch service on the 28th August 2025. The restaurant is in a beautiful village and has been well decorated throughout however, this is where the good experience ended for me and my wife for her birthday meal. When we arrived there was no one at the bar to greet us and we had to wait 5 minutes for someone to see to us and take us to our table. On arrival at our table it was not set and I had to ask for the correct tableware after we had been left at our table. Then it took 30 minutes for our order to be taken and then a further 40 minutes for the food to arrive. The food quality was very poor for the price. We paid 59 pounds for 2 sandwiches, 2 drinks and chips and the steak on the steaks sandwich was very chewy and the fish fingers did not taste fresh on the fish finger one. We also asked for sauces for our chips and these did not arrive so had to ask again. Really disappointed as we found this on the Michelin guide and every restaurant we have visited from the guide, the well over 100 we have, has lived up to or exceeded expectations. But this restaurant is not up to the guides high standards.

Stopped at this beautiful pub during a bike ride. Staff were so accommodating despite having no booking and we sat out the back which felt like a little oasis. Tried multiple things on the menu (wine, seafood cocktail, cheese board) and all delicious. Great place for a drink or lunch!

This is one of our favourite places to go. A beautiful quintessentially English pub by a stream in South Pool. The staff are always charming and offer a very warm welcome. Great food and a great atmosphere. A tucked away gem to enjoy in summer sunshine or winter by the cosy fire.

Gorgeous little pub and delicious food, but very expensive. £18 for a starter, etc. I appreciate costs have gone up but you can eat in very good London restaurants for less. Gorgeous spot though and very friendly service.

Visited the Millbrook for dinner on Friday night. Nested in a beautiful village, we were happy that much of the produce and meat is locally sourced. Lovely, cosy atmosphere and attentive staff. Would highly recommend the steak and lamb. Negroni was also on point. Nice to know you can also boat here for future visits!

Found this one by accident a few years ago & been going back ever since. Real quaint pub in a very pretty South Hams village. Small & cosy, veranda at the back with babbling brook running past. On a summers day this place is perfect
