Ever tried Rocky Mountain Oysters? Yeah, me neither, but they're on the menu here if you ever get a hankering for deep fried buffalo testicles!
Actually, the food here is really good, so I'm sure they are too, if I was into that kinda thing. :)
Drive up the Poudre for a real treat in the mountains. It's a lodgy bar with a few TVs and a little dining area that hangs over the river, super cozy and cute. The staff is very friendly and allowed us to wander around the concert areas.
Holy crap! I am so bummed I've never seen a show here because it is literally too cool for words. I've been to Red Rocks and the Gorge, Telluride even, but this place just looks like so much fun.
Let me try to explain for you flatlanders out there:
The bar/venue is located in a mountain canyon cut by the Cache La Poudre river. You can reach it by heading into the mountains west of Fort Collins. It will be on the right after about 45 minutes, and a bunch of windy turns but nothing scary.
So as I mentioned above, the bar itself is pretty cool, and you can look straight down into the river from the dining area.
The concert venue is outside, pretty much hanging over the river. There is a large deck on the back of the bar, a little beachy gravel area and a stage that hangs over the river. Beautiful and amazing.
They host some big names in the summer, bluegrass, jam bands, jazz. It's only poor luck that I've never been in the area at the right time to catch a show, but after seeing the venue I know I need to make a better effort next year.
