Bars Serving Bombay Sapphire Cocktails | Eater

"For the widest selection of lobster dishes conceivable, you don’t need to drive to a seaside lobster shack. Just take the Red Line all the way to Ashmont in Dorchester. The Mix has lobster mac and cheese eggrolls. There are lobster sliders, BLTs, smash burgers, and grilled cheeses. There’s a two-tails tray. Unsurprisingly, this spot is the brainchild of local chef and caterer Jarvis Adams, aka the “Lobzter King.” It just opened this summer, and there’s so much more than seafood — from Southern dishes like catfish and grits to jerk smash burgers and soul rolls. A late night menu, weekend brunch, patio dining, and a solid cocktail menu make The Mix a much-anticipated new addition to the neighborhood." - Vox Creative

I visited The Mix near Ashmont Station with the TEDxRoxbury crew for Hella Black Trivia and had such a great time! The vibe was lively and fun…perfect for a group outing. Cocktails and shots were on point, and we went all in on appetizers: steak skewers, fried shrimp, catfish nuggets, mac & cheese, wings, and steak & cheese eggrolls. Everything was delicious, but the seafood really stood out. The only reason I’m not giving five stars all around is that our server seemed a bit inexperienced. That said, she was attentive and gracious, owned up to any small mistakes, and did her best to make sure we were taken care of. Overall, it was an enjoyable, interactive night. I’d definitely return and recommend it for a good time with great food and drinks!

I had a great experience at The Mix.The food was delicious, especially the catfish nuggets but everything on the table was amazing and the service was friendly and fast. The atmosphere was cozy and perfect for a brunch, I will be back for the dinner menu, I’m not sure if the cupcake was a Mother’s Day special but it was so moist and the frosting combo was 🔥 , DJ Nyce brought the vibes. Definitely worth a visit! 10/10

Good food and decent service. AC broken in July during the middle of the day made the experience way less enjoyable. The owner brought over a small fan when I brought to his attention that I was dining with a senior citizen, and we were in the midst of a heat wave 🥵 . At least we were able to cool her off a bit at that point. I would go back again, but please note that their greens and sweet potatoes need more draining, so ask for an extra bowl so you can enjoy your food more.

Oh my!!! I am shocked at how delicious my meal was! Service was great, very nice, she gave suggestions for us first time guests. It was just my husband and I, we both really enjoyed everything. The drinks are potent. I had one and felt a buzz. This place gets crowded so reservations are suggested. Dress casually, I felt a tad overdressed in my high heels. Music is great, loud, hip hop and R&, it's my culture and I didn't mind at all. The vibe is great. Mixed crowd but mostly my brown people. Luv it!!! ❤️

I want to like this establishment, I really do. Upon entering the hostess stand was to the left but it took some time before I was greeted. After mentioning I had a reservation for 3 we were placed directly to the right of the entryway. I even stated right here and was met with a yes. This particular table felt like an afterthought. The overall space is small and the decor gives minimal downtown vibes. A DJ was playing some hits which helped the vibe. My waitress was great, I had no problems. I was also giving flowers due to it being Mother's Day a lovely gesture. Now for the food...... the french toast with turkey bacon was nothing to rave about mainly because they used regular sliced bread. The breakfast burger was also ok. I had the lemon drop martini. The 1st order tasted like regular lemonade while the 2nd was more to my liking. For dessert, my girls had the brownie sundae and loved it. I was offered a pick of assorted cupcakes. I opted for the vanilla, which was good but I didn't care for the filling. Now the bill already includes a 20% gratuity, which should be noted when booking a reservation or placing an order. So when prompted to tip that will be in addition to a fare warning. I've been told the vibe at night was better as well as the dinner menu. So we shall go back and see.

Food was good. Service was not despite it being lunch time & very empty. Only 1 other group of people. Not to mention I asked for a printed receipt before paying and was told everything is done on the handheld. I asked to see the transaction before paying and she told me she could not go back on the screen once she had it ready for payment. She couldn't bother the manager because he was eating with some "influencers" She never informed us gratuity was already on the bill. I tipped for her less than basic service not knowing this. The automatic 20% for less than good service in an empty restaurant is crazy. If we do return it will be takeout.

We hosted an event at The Mix this week and it was amazing! Food was delicious, particularly the mac and cheese, salmon, and chicken sliders, and the service was incredible. Decor and music were great as well. Highly recommended!

I have been four times and I am very pleased. The customer service has been great, as well as the food. I highly recommend the honey hot wings and cat fish nuggets. My friend loved the French Toast that they offer for brunch and I really liked my pancakes. The Mix is getting more and more popular so I would suggest making reservations. I definitely will be back and I really enjoy the aesthetics, the food and the service. I love that it is in Dorchester, it's very cultured and a place that has good music and great food. My only issue, which many people have mentioned but they have not made any adjustments is the music. The music is just extremely too loud. The place is small with such loud music, you can barely have conversations with the people you are eating with and it's so loud it actually hurts your ears. One of my friends doesn't want to come back because it was so loud. I love the music, especially the great songs they play but turning it down just a bit would make a better time. Screaming to talk is just not it.

Yelp
I have been to the Mix several times since their opening this year. This place is young and hip and definately is a vibe. The green tea shots are offered as a set of five shots and are so delicious. The burger was alright. I also went for brunch with children and they enjoyed the large pancakes. The chicken and waffles had a granola on it which I was a bit leary about, however, it was surprising delicious. If you're planning on going to brunch on Sundays the atmosphere changes the later it gets in the day. So you decide which side of the vibe you're ready for. You're able to pay with the card machine right in front of you which is a plus. The only downfall is the waitress stands there, which feels like peer pressure, not allowing time for you to view the bill. 20% gratuity is automatically added to the bill and there is an option to leave additional tip. The Mix offers private events, catering, karaoke, and special events. They truly brought downtown uptown!

Yelp
I made reservations online and it was honored upon walking in to the restaurant. No wait at all and noticed that they put reserved signs on the table. It was around 4 on a Friday so we caught it before it got busy. The bbq steak tips were delicious and tender! Collards were nicely seasoned, and Mac and cheese was decent (didn't care for all the bread crumbs on it). Sweet potato corn bread was good but the glaze was completely melted into a watery/butter form. Sweet and spicy wings were just ok. I didn't care for the sauce and would probably go with a fried chicken instead. The not so good: It was freezing inside. I had to keep my jacket on. Not comfortable at all. Server didn't provide best service and there were times we had to ask other servers for things. I ordered a drink off the still in the mix menu which is basically a mocktail (though they still label it cocktail, that should be changed). I pointed to it on my phone and was sure to say the still in the mix- mix sparkler drink when telling the server what I want. I went over each ingredient listed and told her I would like all those but for the soda water I will only take a splash because I can't have carbonated beverages. I get the drink and it has alcohol in it‍. I was NOT supposed to be drinking!! Our server hadn't returned for a while so I had to tell someone else about the situation and she corrected and communicated with our server. My server came back and said you ordered the mix sampler. So I told her yes I did and showed her what I pointed to. Her response was that the menu changed and she wasn't familiar with the drink that didn't have alcohol. Please rename your drinks to distinguish the mocktail from cocktail and label it as a mocktail. Check time! I get the check after having great food but subpar service. 20% is included which I knew from looking online BUT here's the part that made me chuckle. The bill came out to $130 with 20% tip included (my friend ordered food that I didn't include in the review). The server just presents the slip with total cost. I give her the $150 and she said thank you are you all set? I said no you can bring me the change and the itemized receipt and I will tip from there. She brings it back and as I thought the 20% was included so why she thought I would give her an additional $30 is beyond me. Lastly, I was charged like $15 for the drink though it was supposed to be the mocktail for $7. You know I mentioned it and waited for my $9. Food 7/10. Service in general. 5/10 due to experience with that specific waiter I don't think she was intentionally negligent but she needs to work on her skills and know her menu. Everyone else was nice and attentive . Summary: Good food but please turn up the heat, be more attentive to the tables, know your menu, and don't try to get more out of the tip unless someone decides to give more on their own.

Yelp
Parking here is very minimal. The service was good, we sat at the bar though- so i cannot speak for the restaurant. The food was good, but what I got was basic chicken and waffles. The music is way too loud, especially during the day. I couldn't hear my friend at all. It's a restaurant. Before 7 the music should be at a level you can hear people speak. But the music was good! Lots of variety.

Yelp
I had a horrible experience this evening, my 2nd time here but this time I arrived at 5:30pm, the gentleman at the door told me that tables would open up at 6pm so I waited but it was getting really crowded. I checked with the gentleman at 6pm and he looked bewildered so I asked to speak to the manager and the interaction with the manager was interesting, he proceeded to somehow berate me while explaining that he had to honor reservations that were made in advance and basically me showing up at 5:30pm was my fault. I will not return this place is a packys 2 in the making with a terrible outcome. Just waiting to see

Yelp
An organization I'm a member of had their monthly meet up at The Mix. The seating is very tight and can be hard to get on a busy Friday night. We heard they had a DJ but they didn't have one when we went - there was a playlist with some bangers, but lots of RnB - not quite the vibe I was hoping for post busy work week. Our group tried a bunch of different things - we loved the Sweet & Spicy wings, salmon sliders, and chicken sliders. My friends also enjoyed the Mac & cheese - they said it was well seasoned. The fries weren't great - skip them. I loved my catfish meal with collard greens and sweet plantains. A friend tried the Apple Pie eggroll but said it was over fried and tastes rubbery. While some of the food was good, the service was very slow. We waited while for our food and drinks. I enjoyed my "In the Mix" and my friend liked her "Mix Sparkler." I would return to the restaurant if I were in the area but I wouldn't suggest it for a night out with a large group. Big shout out to the restaurant's manager who tried her best to take care of our group and make sure we had a good experience!

Yelp
The MIXX is definitely a hidden gem amongst the city! When you walk in, you immediately feel the electric atmosphere and amongst the who's who's of Boston! The staff and music was inviting. Where else can you get a Lobster BLT (with turkey bacon of course), and lobster mac and cheese eggrolls?! This is definitely a spot where you have to try because i enjoyed every bite!

Yelp
The Mix, an exciting addition to the Ashmont/Dorchester area, offered me a memorable birthday celebration with its lively Karaoke night. From the moment we arrived, the service was impeccable; the host warmly welcomed us and introduced our attentive waitress. I opted for the red snapper sandwich, while my best-friend chose the smash burger. Both dishes were a triumph of flavor and satisfaction. The restaurant's ambiance was as delightful as its food, with a visually pleasing interior and a DJ spinning engaging tunes. The crowd was fully immersed in the Karaoke spirit, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. Overall, The Mix delivers an outstanding blend of great food and energetic entertainment.

Yelp
I went to The Mix for the first time this past weekend. They were doing a brunch party, so there were tickets to attend. It was a little confusing because when I arrived it was still early, and not that many people were there. I'm not sure how they differentiate people coming just for brunch and those who are there for the event. They have a pretty limited menu, but I got their chicken and waffles. I liked that the waffles were cut down into fourths. It made it easier to eat, and I liked how they added granola bits to the to the waffles. I never thought to do that, but it added extra crunch and flavor. They had chicken tenders instead of drumsticks or breasts and I actually prefer tenders, so was happy with it. My friend ordered salmon sliders and she said they were good. We both had their mimosas for drinks, and I will say their prices were decent considering drink prices in Boston. I had a strawberry and passion fruit one. My opinion is the passion fruit one was better and seemed a little stronger. I liked the space, and thought there was plenty of room for dining. The DJ played good music, lots of throwbacks, but the music was too loud. My friend and I were right by the DJ booth and could barely hear each other. A couple people asked to be moved because of how loud the music was. I also had to use the bathroom while there, and I was frustrated that there wasn't soap in the dispenser, so they should be sure to check on this. All in all, not a bad experience. If I lived in Boston, I'd probably give them another try.

Yelp
I'd been wanting to try this place after having the chef's catered food at an event last year. I randomly decided to get a to-go order. I got the Lobster BLT with no bacon, candied yams, Mac and cheese, and fries. The sandwich was delicious especially with the special sauce. The Mac and candied yams combo (iykyk) was good too. I wished they gave more macaroni. And the fries weren't anything special, just fries. I ordered to-go but the service could have been so much better and kind. I'm hopeful it'll get better upon my next visit.

Yelp
Food and vibes are great ! Service might be a little slow , because of how busy it is, but it definitely worth the wait. Haven't had a bad meal yet.

Yelp
Went here to celebrate a birthday. Party of 12. Pros: Ambiance, Music, Drinks, Wings, Mac n cheese, collard greens, margarita flight, candy yams, waitress energy, cool vibe, didn't feel rushed. Cons: tight space, ran out of the flight glasses, very slow service, not enough wait staff, no dancing space, very pricey drinks and shots, parking sucks. They added a 20% tip and the total bill was over $800. I'd return for a date night or order take out.

Yelp
The wings....? Superb. Food, atmosphere, and great customer service. My girlfriend and I had a blast, and definitely will be back for another Sunday funday!

Tova T.

Yelp
Music was extremely loud and of very poor taste. The base was so loud that we could not conversate and had to yell when placeing our orders. Also gratuity is automatically taken out yet the waitress still asked if we wanted to tip her which I consider to be double dipping. Very unorganized environment. . Also lunch time last for too long and the menu is very limited. This establishment has an adult club atmosphere yet there were children present while the DJ played very provocative music and had no consideration for the very underaged. Chicken and waffles was horrible quality. My chicken was freezer bured and had hair on it plus cooked blood. One good thing is that when I complained the chicken the manager refunded me my money

Yelp
WoooooW! Amazing amazing let's say amazing. My friends and I went there for brunch and then went back for dinner. The chicken wings dry rub, lobster Mac and cheese, cat fish nuggets and grits and shrimp. Everything was seasoned to perfection, tasty and the music was on point. Sometimes batter is seasoned not the meat. This was perfect all the way to the bone. Def a place I will be visiting often. It also was so refreshing to see that staff were very friendly and knew what to get. Wish they had music outside but that's a minor. If you haven't gone - visit soon, definitely worth the trip.

Sony S.

Yelp
The food is fine.. I didn't not like the fact that the music was soooo loud the host could not hear me. And not yo mention it was a Sunday afternoon snd they were playing gangster rap..

Yelp
EXTRA,EXTRA ! Finally Boston has an Adult place to BRUNCH, I am only speaking of BRUNCH for Now, I will go back to try them at lunch & dinner service. NOW let's talk about the ambiance: the inside was very welcoming and the staff was very friendly I was actually seated by one of the owners and his energetic personality was similar to the vibe of the establishment. LET'S talk eats and beverages I had a expresso martini and it was fair I would have liked the glass to be drizzled with chocolate expresso syrup however it was nice flavor. I enjoyed the chicken and waffles, also at the table was a side of grits, fried shrimp and pancakes . The waffles were crispy on the outside and melt in your mouth delicious they were topped with fresh berries and powdered sugar, the chicken was well seasoned and the crunch was amazingly delicious the cheese grits were flavored to perfection. I actually had an opportunity to speak with the Chef, and his southern roots definitely shows in his cooking which this southern lady enjoyed! I will visit again #themix.

Yelp
Went there for a birthday gathering/musical event and they didn't open the kitchen, only the bar and it was dinner time. I asked the event organizer about it and they were informed the day of the event they would not be opening the kitchen. Poorest service I've ever had at a restaurant.

Tray O.

Yelp
The food is amazing ! One of my fav dishes is the salmon sliders (grilled or fried) you will not be disappointed. The staff is great and they service with a smile.

Sharon W.

Yelp
Terrible customer service the make there quote then could care less about being a paying customer..... I do not recommend going there at all management as well as there so called security needs better training!!!! The only could thing there is the Dj The nerve they have to include tip!!!! Tips are based on service and professionalism

Justina C.

Yelp
Horrible horrible service. Made reservations and they didn't have seats ready for us. They sat down the girl who came in after us because the host was flirting with them. When they finally sat us down they made us move immediately after we paid even though we ordered more drinks.

Yelp
The owner seems to think approaching a customer about furniture is distasteful. I was dancing and happened to knock down a high chair, God forbid then the owner approached me like he wanted to fight over the furniture. How many clubs have I been in when someone is stepping on the furniture. This was my first time and definitely my last. Thanks for ruining my night owner

Yelp
Love, love, love that this Black-owned and operated! My whole reason for visiting. My first time was on some random night with my housemates and it was a limited menu since it had only recently opened. The lemon pepper wings were good but my roommate was disappointed by the rasta pasta which she said had more salmon than pasta. The service was quick with seating and drinks but slooooooowwwwwww (45 minutes) for food to come out. This didn't bother my housemates because they said the drinks were nice and strong. I don't drink and was hungry so I was kinda disappointed. Nonetheless, I returned for the NBA playoffs and man oh man was it packed in this place. Couple hundred dollar drink minimum for tables, couldn't really stand anywhere because of the waitstaff going and coming from the back. They were clearly and verbally irritated with folks standing around and blocking the path which is not the patrons fault but the owners. Gotta' cut off the headcount at some point as I'm sure it's a fire hazard. I get making money, but please let service, quality and professionalism be top notch at this establishment. Do something that hasn't been done before. BE EXCELLENT in business. I'll return when I start to hear how great he customer service is here.

Yelp
I'm 11 years old, with a love for food. Today I visited The MIX, entering in the restaurant the staff was really polite. First, I ordered some lemonade it was decent taste like it's from the store. Second, I ordered a mac and cheese and it was delicious 4 out of 5. I also had a cheeseburger, yet that was also good rated like a 5 out of 5. Good sports vibes and patio in the back. After we ordered, the waitress came to our table to check our order 3 different times before it came out. The wait for the food was about 30 minutes. Overall great service from MIX. Don't forget to bring your patience.

Yelp
Just visited for the first time. It was trivia night, so upon entering we were greeted by everyone and smiles on all faces. So we felt welcomed. Waitress came over pretty quickly after we sat down. Let us know what was available on the menu. Imani was her name really nice girl. Genuinely friendly. The owner was also good about checking on how we were doing more than a few times. We ordered the Mac & cheese- really good, I have no bizness eating cheese. Collars greens- my favorite was so so good. Fried chicken-also good not too seasoned but good. Sweet plantain- also good I grew up on them, so it's hard to review. I'm bias on that. But I would order them again. I can do strong drinks so the drinks weren't really strong but not weak. Just right. They just take way to long to come. It wasn't so busy that it should take so long. But nothing to give a bad review for. It was a mixed age crowd I would say. Buy mainly grown folks over 30. I loveeed the music, very mich like my playlist. Trivia is my thing so I'm so happy that even with a smaller crowd the host still lead the game. It was a good time. TVs were also well placed. Note- find street parking, there's 2 restrooms/single bathroom for everyone, they were clean. The bar gets full quickly but seats also open up. I love that the owners are there and working as well, and greeting folks. Only thing I can say is drinks should come before food comes out. Atleast try too. But I'll be back for more events. Oh & I love ATL visit very often & this spot gave ATL vibes when I walked in. Boston needed this. Thank you.

Jannifer F.

Yelp
chicken sliders that's all I'm going to say ! , everything is delicious, salmon sliders , collard greens mac n cheese , this is my go to spot for the best food in Boston . vibes is always on 100 . the music will def have you dancing in your seat

Ashley C.

Yelp
This was my first and last time at this establishment. I went for an event and it started over an hour and a half late. Then the food took over an hour to come out and the salmon bites came out raw. I asked the server the status on the food and she advised "it was coming". Almost half the modified menu was unavailable. I asked an owner about the ingredients in a sauce and they advise " they couldn't tell me but it was mostly mayo based". So I hope you don't have an allergy. I had such a disappointing experience I expressed to an owner that I most likely would not return and he responded "it is what it is". The lack of professionalism was astonishing. There were almost about five different physical altercations that occurred in this single night, so they actually closed early. To make some type of improvement the owner did not charge us for the salmon bites and offered us a gift card in addition to removing the salon bites, but ending up charging us for the gift card we never asked for. I would NOT recommend. Stay away!

Yelp
I recently, visited The Mix, this past weekend for a birthday celebration. Upon entering, I was greeted by friendly staff who suggested that I wait at the bar for the other guests to arrive. After sitting at the bar I was offered a menu, while looking over the menu I decided to try their signature "In the Mix" drink. The price for the drink was listed as 16 dollars. Perfect, I ordered one with the waitress and proceeded to wait for the drink to be made. Once the waitress made the drink she gave it to me and then told me that the price of the drink was 21 dollars. This was a $5 difference from the price listed on the menu. Before accepting the drink I asked the waiter why was the drink a different price than what's listed on the menu. I was told that the prices changed and the Manager had not redone the menu. I was very upset with the price difference and felt the waitress lied. This was poor customer service and tasteless for an extra 5 dollars on her behalf. The rest of the night everyone stated they were not charged $21 dollars they were only charged $16.
