Yelp
We had a book club outing to the modern rose... and a nearby romance bookstore. First time I had heard of this place: apparently super instagrammable... and with great food choices... so I was excited to check it out!
So my first impression was a bit of a bewildered look: it seemed a very small hole-in-the-wall spot... and the line at the register for take out was huge!
And then: I walked past the register and the line to a larger room in the back, with more of the fun eclectic decor, tables of all sizes, and a QR-code menu on the table that facilitated (somewhat) our ordering! And someone actually brings the food and drinks out to your table? Awesome!!
So we figured out the large choices available- it took a while to scroll all the way back down... you can check out without registering, so that was good to know.
The ordering process was a bit cumbersome, but we managed placing the order, and waited and chit chatted. It was a long wait as the place was buzzing on a Sunday!
The thing is: then you have to pay attention because when an order appears, they call your name- I thought each table would have a code with order, but it doesn't so pay attention.
Anyway, the ordering and delivering process needs to work better - it took a while, the orders came out individually (meaning I placed an order for 2 drinks, one sandwich and one dessert, and we got one drink, then one dessert, then another drink and finally after a long wait: the sandwich!) so be patient and have lots and lots to talk about (which we did)(but we were hungryyyy!)
Food-wise: everything tasted delicious! No wonder they have such great attendance!! The variety of choices and foods I saw delivered to other tables was so good... we wanted to order more! But we were full...
I had a caramel brûlée tea that was surprisingly flavorful: I always think of coffee in terms of caramel or milky beverages: well this tea was subtle in taste and delicious. My friend ordered an Arnold Palmer that she said was good too.
Then i ordered a warm croissant with Brie, almonds, blueberries and honey that was delectable- perhaps I missed a bit more Brie to it- but the flavors did come thru. And my friend ordered a scone and they had run out of all the others except the raspberry one (we wanted pistachio) and also of the jelly or mascarpone- so we had to just have plain warm scone: which was very good... sad they had run out of the mascarpone.
Overall, service was cordial, the staff kept apologizing for the delays in service and the missing items due to the place being so full, so they were concerned. Still we did miss out on several things we wanted to order as they were not available: and it was only noon on Sunday!
The atmosphere inside was super cute: all sorts of little adornments and couches and tables of all sizes, made this a quirky and cool spot for a meeting. We did have a good time, and enjoyed our food so much... that are planning on going to the one located in Hollywood - that happens to have more food choices and is located closer to us! Woohoo!
Enjoy!
