The Modern Tour - Palm Springs

Michael was the perfect choice as our mid-century modern architectural tour guide. He was able to effectively share tons of info about not only the exterior architectural and interior decorating styles that are unique to Palm Springs, but also the history of the area spiced with many tales about the former celebs who frequented (and still frequent) the area. We even bought a copy of his book which he signed for us. Well worth the price!

I took this tour for the first time in 2016. I was so impressed with it that when I had guests from out of town visiting, I took it for a second time last November with my guests. I have to say even a second time it is one of the best tours I have been on. Michael's commentary and knowledge makes it a real treat. Even the second time around there was very little duplication. My guests and I had a wonderful time. If you love modern architecture and want to see inside some spectacular places, this is the tour for you. I highly recommend it and wouldn't be surprised if I do it again one day.

We completely enjoyed Michael’s inside insights about the mid-century modern homes throughout Palm Springs. We learned more than we thought we would and have an even deeper appreciation for the architecture and Palm Springs. Being able to walk the properties and view the interiors of some of the most iconic homes was priceless.

For any lover of mid century modern architecture and design this tour is a must. To see and go inside homes I had ogled in photos online was a surreal and truly amazing experience. This tour has the access to the iconic homes you want to see and the knowledge of and passion for the period. The best part of my trip to Palm Springs and would recommend to all mcm lovers visiting Palm Springs. Anyways, I need to move here now!

Amazing tour if you are into mid-century architecture. Learned new things about Palm Springs and the three houses we visited (inside and outside) on the tour were gorgeous. Michael did a great job. Highly recommended.

My friend and I did the Modernism Top 10 tour and we were disappointed. 3 of the buildings were commercial buildings (City Hall, a school and the visitor center all of which I could see in my own not ones I can see just driving down the road) I wanted to see homes that exemplify the Mid Century Modern style that is throughout this area - homes that I wouldn’t know were there if not from this area. And the Frank Sinatra house is behind a wall, we saw nothing of the style of the home. I think they should rethink what HOMES to show on this tour. I did love how the tour was done though. The narration was wonderful.

What made this tour special was that it allowed for a look at the interiors of three modern homes from various periods. The driving tour of the various neighborhoods and the explanation of the design philosophy and how it fit the environment and history of the area were great, but we felt only by getting the "inside look" allowed an understanding of what it feels to live inside one of the homes, and why the design is so well suited to the environment. Michael Stern was knowledgeable and entertaining, and we really enjoyed the experience. Highly recommended.

This tour is a must for Palm Springs. Michael is so knowledgeable about all things Palm Springs and modern aesthetics . The tour was over four hours and we saw some of the best!
