The 21 Best Bars In Lisbon - Lisbon - The Infatuation

"You’ll drink like a royal at this fancy bar on Rua da Boavista in Cais do Sodré. But it’s Lisbon, so anything that sounds fancy is typically pretty casual. Here, you’ll find locals with surfer tans and ripped jeans lounging on velvet couches in a stone-clad space with chequered floors and a lavish marble bar. There are kitschy paintings of deceased Portuguese royals on the walls, of course, making it the perfect setting for enjoying a Hollywood cocktail with Havana rum and pau santo from Brazil, a Backdoor Bandit with tequila and chipotle, or anything from the menu that draws inspiration from all corners of the world." - rita geraldes

Atmosphere: 7/10
Monarch sits in one of Lisbon’s popular nightlife areas. The vibe is casual yet accented with cool design elements that give it character. Music volume is good. The backbar looks nice, though seating at the counter is awkwardly split by a column. There are many tables available for groups. Drinks: 7.5/10
Recommendation: Rub-A-Dub-Anana
The menu is simple in design with a decent selection. Flavors are good and generally well balanced. Glassware is average, garnishes basic, and presentation minimal with little focus on ice or details. No coasters provided. Service: 8/10
Water is served on arrival. The team is friendly and attentive, though professionalism could be sharper. Reservations aren’t needed. Prices run slightly above average for Lisbon.

My favorite bar in Lisbon hands down. Friendly place and welcoming to English speakers. The place is a clean, upscale, trendy establishment with comfortable seating. The service was professional and friendly and the establishment really cared about the customer experience. The drinks were artful and unique combinations, involving some different ingredients like rhubarb. There was skilled mixology, care, pride, and passion that went into the cocktails. The owner even helped us with researching and finding a restaurant. I would frequent this place if I was a local.

We stepped inside and the bartender invited us in. You can sit at a cozy private table. We chose to sit at the bar and have fun conversation with other patrons and the owner. Was not crowded early on a weeknight during off peak season. We each enjoyed 2 cocktails that were priced as expected between 11-13 euros each for high quality crafted drinks. Our favorite drink was Backdoor Bandit. Would happily return and explore the menu more.

Monarch Bar in Lisbon was such a fun surprise. I came in expecting to order a Last Word, but Tamara suggested something off-menu—the Back Door Bandit—and it ended up being exactly what I didn’t know I wanted. It had the perfect balance of kick and spice, with just enough sour. The chipotle and habanero flavors were bold but smooth, and yes, the mix is homemade. WOW to the expert mixologist!! Even their water was thoughtful—infused with macaron tea, light and floral without being sweet. The whole experience felt considered but totally unpretentious. The vibe was cool without trying too hard, and the service was warm and welcoming from the start. I’ll definitely be back to see what else Tamara has up her sleeve.

TL;DR: This is hands-down the best cocktail bar in Lisbon. Bigger review: Oddly enough I don't want you to know about this bar. I want to keep it all for myself... but since I'm not in Lisbon all the time, I don't mind sharing it that much. Excellent cocktails, amazing people and lovely atmosphere. If you're ever in the neighbourhood, dive in, and your tastebuds will thank you for it. Enjoy!
