The Monarch

Passing through town and our local friends recommended this place. Had dinner around 8pm and things were great until one of the workers opened the garage door next to our table. It was still 89F and felt like 94F according to my weather app. As soon as the door was rolled up, we felt the hot air rushed inside. If we wanted the heat, we would’ve sit outside, but no, we opted for a cool eating experience. On top of the heat, flies were all over our food/ straws and we just stopped eating at this point. The manager did come by to talk to us and said the owner likes the garage door opened between 8-9. Perhaps the owner tolerates the heat and doesn’t mind flies over the food, but we do. The manager did take a few dollars off our bill.

Really good mac and cheese. The burnt ends I think were pork. The jalapeño slices were perfectly grilled and added spice to a already great meal.

The Monarch is a trendy and welcoming spot with a great vibe and even better food and drinks. Known for its impressive whiskey selection and craft cocktails, it’s a perfect place to unwind or catch up with friends. The menu features delicious and creative dishes made with quality ingredients. Friendly staff, cozy atmosphere, and great service make it a go-to hangout in Wichita. Highly recommended!

Fun atmosphere and quick service. We sat at the bar to have appetizers and drinks. Excellent selection and fresh food. Staff were friendly and efficient and our food came out quick, even though it was a busy time of day. We had fun looking at all the decor and loved that there was a large parking lot next to it. We enjoyed our fried green beans, stuffed mushroom caps, and Italian salad. Don’t forget to try their in-house made limoncello!

I ordered the Buffalo Mac and Cheese and my spouse ordered a flat bread pizza. The max and cheese was so good and the pizza was fine but I likely wouldn’t order it again. We also ordered a spinach artichoke dip and it was good.

My wife and I have been wanting to come here for about two years now and when we finally had a chance..we honestly hated it. Once we arrived they said it was open seating and we were looking around at multiple dirty tables that were not occupied, but had cluttered messes all over them and nobody cleaned them up for about 20 minutes. Our waitress came to our table as little as she possibly could. Another waitress stood against the wall next to our table and watched the TV the entire time we were eating. Another worker came up (not sure if it was a waitress or manager) and placed a reserve display on our table, asking if we would be leaving by a certain time because this table is now reserved already after we ordered our food. Slightly baffled we just said “yes, we’d be gone by that time” She did clarify that she didn’t want to rush us or anything like that, but couldn’t help but feel like being rushed significantly. She said the entire area that we were in was reserved and once we looked around all the other tables with customers didn’t have any reserve signs and only two tables did that were empty and right next to it was another empty table with no reserve sign and we just couldn’t help but wonder why they didn’t choose that table instead of ours. They were polite about it, but just seemed unprofessional and realistically we would’ve been out before that time anyways and I feel like them as the workers should’ve known that it was unprofessional to do so and could’ve waited for us to leave clean our table and then placed down the sign. On top of all of that, our food was just subpar…not even subpar, but straight up bad. We’ve been to a lot of places in the city some good some OK but this is the first place we’ve been to be genuinely had bad tasting meals. 10 out of 10 wood NOT Recommend. Genuinely one of the top 5 worst places we’ve had in the city. I usually don’t like leaving negative reviews, but felt like this was necessary on how the entire experience was all around not a good time. We also like to support local businesses, but would not recommend bringing your loved ones here or wasting your money here. The staff was not welcoming or helpful whatsoever.

Great stop on the drive through. We only tried the food, but were happy with our plates. The house made potato chips were a bit too crunchy for our liking, but the sandwiches were purchased were delicious and plentiful. It looked like portions were great for each meal. Staff was kind and helpful.

The food, service, and ambiance were all amazing. It was my first experience at this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants a great food service and nice atmosphere to eat in.

Located at the circle on Douglas in the Delano area, the Monarch is somehow bigger inside than it is outside. This may be related to the 2 patios and the garage doors that link the outside and inside spaces - creating an open and cheery atmosphere. The menu is inviting - everything sounds delicious, and the food at neighboring tables looked promising. We enjoyed the chicken salad sandwich and hot potato salad and a Wilbur sandwich with sweet potato tots. The portions were just right and the food was tasty. Our server was helpful guiding us through our selections.

3.9/5 First time at the Monarch. I can't say it left a huge impression on me but that doesn't mean my experience was bad. I just personally feel there's not a lot that sets this establishment apart from the next "American cuisine" eatery. That being said it was quite busy for a Sunday night but I was able to walk right in. All three staff I had interactions with were plenty friendly. There was a small mix up with who was supposed to be serving our table between servers but it was quickly hashed out. Ambiance: open air, nice patio, pretty standard for a restaurant of its type. No loud music thank goodness. Food: as many have said the fried green beans are where it's at. The aoli it came with was particularly tasty as well. The spinach artichoke dip is definitely one of the better ones I've had and I appreciate the variety of chips, veggies, and flat breads with it. Most places just give you one kind. I had the veggie flat bread. Probably my least favorite thing. It looked unappetizing (I wish I had taken a picture) and all the moisture of the vegetables and cheese made it floppy and soggy. The pesto was a little too heavy and it was quite oily. The sweet potato tots were GOOD. Like give me a whole basket of those. My friend said her cuban was quite good as well. Overall some hits some misses. Pretty standard restaurant fair and there's something on the menu for everyone.

All I have to say is you better fast before you go to this restaurant. The cheese board alone could feed a small country. After that, I didn't have much more room so I got a cup of their tomato soup. Creamy and housemade! Cozy vibes and comfort food! The patio is fantastic. I had to fly in on a Sunday so everyone was having their Sunday funday.

Great ambiance! The service was great, we love coming here when in town. The food and drinks are always a staple!

Loved the monarch! Their sandwiches are HUGE and delicious! They have a variety of drinks as well, and are pet friendly in their patio! The service was exceptional, very attentive!

I came here for lunch on a Saturday. It was pretty busy when I arrived, but I was seated right away. I was sat near the bar area at a high top table. With tvs around, it gave off a sports bar vibe. Since I was alone, it was nice to watch the tv. Food: I ordered the fried mushrooms to start. The serving size was larger than I was expecting, and they were delicious! I absolutely enjoyed them. I also ordered the veggie sandwich. The sandwich was pretty good. The fries were crispy too. Service: Service was friendly. The food came out promptly as well. I did think my mushrooms would come out first, but all the food came out at once. TL;DR - Good restaurant with a sports bar vibe

Service was great considering our large party of 18. Lots of places to sit and food options were good. Had the popular Cuban and it was good...fries were really awesome. Also had old fashioned and they came out really good with a block ice. Highly recommend!!!

I ate there today, had the Wilbur with fried green beans. Fabulous sandwich, it was suggested by the waitress, who was very nice. Ambiance was fine but could use some more tv's at the bar. Slightly pricey.. meal and a beer was $20 before tip but it was very good.

The service was great and so was the food. The inside was nice and clean the only reason I didn't give a 5 star I ordered a martini and it was more vermouth than vodka

Not Horrendous, but even though it was my first time in Wichita (visiting from Los Angeles) I managed to find better food. I ordered a Rueben, and being from L.A., where there are a LOT of Jewish Delis with OUtstanding sandwiches, maybe I held them to a high bar. I tried to take this into consideration, but the Rueben was just simply....lacking a bit, a bit in saucieness, sourkrout, flavor, texture. It just was what it was. Service was a bit lack luster. Food was dropped off at table with "no" silverware, and few other oversights that I won't get into. MY ex ordered mac n cheese with ribe tips or ends? It came to the table "cold." She didn't even eat it. It was taken off the bill. Sorry gang. I always "hope" to give rave reviews but....

I dont see the hype. My food was dry and bland. The appetizer looked like something I could made myself. Our server wasn't very attentive. It probably stays busy because of the location.

We absolutely loved this place! We came here on a Monday afternoon for a late lunch before we had to go to the airport. We would have loved to get some bourbon but thought that might not be wise before our flight. So we got a beer...my husband got an IPA and I got a stout called Buffalo Sweat (that made me literally LOL). Our waitress was Julia and she was just lovely! She recommended the green beans and the Wilbur. We got both, along with the loaded sweet potato tots. The Wilbur was ok, the tots were great, but the green beans were the best thing we had on our week long vacation! My local bar at home has them and I used to love them but now I don't know if I can ever eat them again because I'll be comparing them to the Monarch! And Julia also made us a list of her favorite shops and other places to go for us to visit on next trip! Top notch! We were very happy with the ambiance, the service, and the food. The value was excellent. We look forward to returning to this establishment when we come back to Wichita.

Restaurant/pub located in downtown Wichita. A few locals recommended this spot so we checked it out for Sunday brunch. Bottomless mimosas are apparently against the law in Wichita but they do offer $5 mimosas. There is also a great selection of bourbons and beers. We started with the goat cheese peppers which were amazing. They guys had the wings which they said were excellent with some spice. For my meal I had the pork Mac and cheese. Two people could definitely split this. Our waiter was super attentive and friendly.

Food and drinks were amazing. Food options for those who don't eat meat. Outside seating that allows dogs. Staff extremely nice. Wish the weather had cooperated more for us to spend more time there. Unfortunately we were traveling with our dog and a bad rain storm that blew through so we had to box up our food and leave. Would have loved to stay for more drinks.

This restaurant is a great option for food and drinks in Wichita. Excellent service from welcoming staff. Guests have the option of indoor or outdoor seating. Each menu item has a unique twist on it to help it stand out from a generic version of it you may find elsewhere.

The service was stupendous!! My friends and I had a wonderful time. The food was underwhelming, though Im sure it's dependent on what you order. I ordered the Turkey and Cream Cheese sandwich and it was bland, of course not the worst thing food can be. Friends of mine got The chicken pesto flatbread and really enjoyed it, and another friend got the BBQ mac n cheese and was also underwhelmed. Seriously though, no joke, the service was on point. The dining experience was pleasant. My water glass (that I constantly drink from) was never empty. And I had a great time. I definitely recommend the restaurant, just not the specific item I ordered.

Want Fast Fresh Delicious food look no further! Want Sh&tty rude service look no further I ordered a absolutely incredible bbq Mac n Cheese, but couldn't enjoy it because I never got my utensils and when I asked my server for the utensils, I was just given a shrug and they scoffed off- My dad who I was dining with was done with his sandwich by the time my utensils came, 15 MINUTES LATER! The ambiance is loud and resembles a sports bar. But foods pretty good actually

Just had lunch here. Nice outdoor seating area and great indoor vibe. I had the Taco Salad and the squeeze had the Greek Salad with smoked Turkey. My taco salad was actually burnt ends on lettuce with homemade deep fried chips. The meat was sooooo tender and flavorful. The Greek salad was excellent with a generous amount of meat. They had about 8 beers on tap. We had the Salt Lake IPA. Great malty flavor. The server, Abbey, did an excellent job. Try this place out!!

Really enjoyed my visit to The Monarch last month. First of all, it's got a cool retro type vibe, without being overdone. There was plenty of free parking and the place was easy to find. My bartender, Makalya, took great care of me and made a delicious old fashioned. A friend had recommended the Wilber sammy made with smoked ham, bacon, cream cheese and swiss cheese dressed with jalapeno jelly. Anything with jalapeno always gives me pause as I'm such a spice weenie, but it was perfect. And flavorful. I also enjoyed 1/2 a Greek salad loaded with smoked chicken, tomato, onions, cucumbers, feta, Greek olives and artichokes. Not long after my food arrived I got some bad news from back home in Kansas City and needed to get on the road asap. I always travel with an insulated cooler in my vehicle so I asked Makalya if she could put some ice in a plastic bag for me to keep my food safe for the next few hours during my trip home. She could not have been more pleasant. If you're in Wichita, I recommend checking this place out. Both locals and visitors to Wichita will be made to feel welcome and enjoy some great food and drinks.

We did take out so a a review of the food more than anything though when I got there to pick it up I had multiple folks look up at me and appear to avoid making eye contact or ask why I was there, took about 5 minutes to get someone's attention but they were pretty busy for a Sunday evening. We did the Cuban, the Greek Salad, and the humus to go while stopping over in Wichita for our long drive and really glad we found this place. The food had great flavor, not overly heavy, and the quantities were solid. The Cuban was made very well though i was a bit disappointed the bread was not very pressed as it looked in some of the pictures but would still 100% get it again. The chips seem to be made in house and are very crunchy so can't go wrong there. Only reason for 4 stars is there were multiple other apps we tried to order before landing on the humus because they were out of quite a few things. We will definitely be back if we stop over in the area again.

Although I have never eaten here, the food I see going out to patrons looks great. I'm not really a fan of "bar food" but I sometimes enjoy a good Bloody Mary. Here they have a garlic infused vodka that puts a crown on this timeless cocktail.

Nice atmosphere. Compared to the 80s biker bar it used to be. Sandwich i had was pretty good. Service was friendly.

The service was great. Our servers name was Alex, I believe, she was terrific. They were super busy, but they were kind the whole time. The neighbourhood is super cute.

When visiting Wichita for training a friend and I visited Monarch on a whim. The aesthetic immediately grabbed our attention when we drove past, it's a very welcoming in a Americana kinda way. Looking at the menu everything looked good, so we ordered an appetizer of the Sweet Peppadew peppers which were amazing, and I am absolutely craving still days later. We also ordered the fried green beans which were good, but left me wishing I had ordered the mushrooms of the same variety. We asked our server to make a recommendation since we couldn't pick and he recommended the Wilbur, and the White chicken flatbread. The former, was excellent and very flavorful, with a surprising hint of sweetness from the pepper jelly. The latter was a little heavy and I wasn't particularly impressed but if you are really hankering for a white sauce pizza type dish then it will definitely scratch your itch. Overall amazing experience and I will absolutely be going back when I return in 6 months!

Always average food. We come back though when we are in town, because the west side of town is lacking in options. They did accommodate our large group and the server was wonderful.

Crispy? Yep. Crunchy? Yep. Salty? Yep. Delicious? Oh you bet. Wow, blown away. Blown. Away. My husband and I were visiting from southern Utah (bland food) and we experienced flavor like never before. My tongue still salivates at the thought of the monarch. My sister keeps saying "the monarch" just to watch me drool on our floor. I say Karen get the mops.

Nice place with good friendly helpful staff. I sat at the bar. Julian our bar tender was sharp and charismatic with tending to everyone. Prices for drinks were reasonable. Will be back again for my travels.

Always hits every single time. Went in and split the Beef and Cheddar and Turkey Club with my husband. We couldn't decide which was better- both sooo good! Bar staff was very friendly. Will be back!

I've only had one sandwich from here, but it was SO delicious!! I got the Delano Club with house seasoned chips and it was fantastic! I don't live in Wichita, but I'll definitely stop here every time I'm in town to try new stuff.

Did not even get a chance to taste the food due to the out dated seating system and over worked staff. Do not try to come here when the weather is good or it will be busy because you will not have a good experience. The manager or hostess was very rude. People only go here for the patio. lol

I hosted my work team for a holiday celebration during Happy Hour. The staff was very helpful and knowledgeable about their menu. The were attentive but not overly so. We ordered appetizers and some were so tasty we order a second order. ' We were able to get the big table and it had holiday decorations adding to our celebration.

This was the best and most fun place to hang out on a Sunday! First and foremost - our server Nico was absolutely fabulous. He was very attentive, yet gave us privacy! The perfect combo in a server. The food was so so good, highly recommend the Goat Cheese Peppers for an appetizer. We will return

The first restaurant I've tried while visiting the Wichita area and I'm so glad I did! Apart from the very reasonable food pricing, the food, ambiance, service and accessibility were on point. Food portions are generous and most importantly delicious! Try their tomato soup, it's sooo good! Would definitely come back to try something else on the menu.

I had an amazing Smoked Salmon Salad this evening at the Monarch and my friend had the monarch wings. The food was served exactly as requested and the servers were top shelf. Christian and Molly did an awesome jobs working together to make sure we were attended to. The Manager on duty, I believe he said his name was Louie, stopped by and made us feel at home. I will be back, thank you everyone.

From The Wilbur to the waiter, I was not disappointed. I was delighted with my entire experience. The only bad thing was how long it took me to try this place out!

I am always hopeful each visit I have a sandwich here that it'll improve. It has not. It's not that the ingredients are bad, it's the execution that could make it better. These sandwiches lack any sort of sauce, fat or flavor. The same type of sandwich you'll make at home but never as good as the sandwich shop. A good sandwich when you bite into it has either a good sauce or a wet vinaigrette that unlocks the full flavor of a great sandwich. I had the Italian sandwich and biting into it was difficult. They used French bread toasted where the outer crust of the bread crumbles and makes a mess everywhere. Each bite is like sand pouring everywhere. So not only was the sandwich dry, plain and flavorless, it was also difficult to fit in any normal human sized mouth. You would have to be an alligator or unhinge your jaw to comfortably eat this. If they can fix this their offerings could be amazing. The overall service was great. Our server had good timing and checked in on us regularly. Only suggestion would be observation skills. We added a few more people and he didn't provide any additional napkins and utensils.

Great service and great food. Our dogs love the patio and the drinks are strong. What more could we ask for! Try the goat cheese peppers and the Porto caps you won't be disappointed!

Jen the owner of one of the COOLEST BOURBON BARS IN AMERICA has achieved, in my opinion, royalty status! The minute you walk in you know you have landed in Bourbon Nirvana! The sweet stench of the bar permeated my thoughts and I find myself yearning to return, like a line from "Hotel California " and I, as if you know me, know I am a Bourbon fan. So cool bar-check Cool funky art-check Great patio seating-check Small local vibe-check Great menu-check When I asked about a Bourbon recommendation Victor grinned his evil grin and presented me with a twelve page dossier to peruse and coyly asked " Where do you want to go my friend?" Our journey began and as we followed the rabbit down the hole we were treated with what I can only portray as " LOVE" that one receives from a family member! Several " pours" later and some snacks, I soon realized we were the only ones left in the bar, however at no time were we ever rushed or meant to feel as an inconvenience! I was so enamored with this establishment I had to return before I left town! Second verse same as the first! Different staff but same treatment! I can't say enough to the Owner about how much the hospitality meant to me! Believe this I plan to return to Witchita often and my first order of business will always be a stop at The Monarch Bar!

A friend and I met to remember another friend. We were able to raise a glass of a new Irish whiskey and grab a bite. Good atmosphere, great service and good food. I love the Cuban sandwich.

Our service was wonderful attentive and the food was great. We ordered salads and fried mushrooms after a long day on the road. Plenty of food for the next day. The restaurant had ample outdoor seating for this cool August evening. (Rare in August) there were young children playing pool which was the only down grade from 5stars for this establishment. Shrieking wasn't our vibe but it was a Saturday evening about 9pm. Again, plenty of space to choose from for eating and beverage. The street noise does filter in because the garage door in the bar was open but all in all, when we pass through again, we'll be there.

Great vibe, great staff, and great food. Truly a gem in Wichita and I'm glad I went here (3 times) on my visit.
