The 19 Best Restaurants In Montauk 2024

"A local classic since the 1920s, Montauket is one of those spots where you can sip local beer, take in the sunset, and enjoy some live music, all while looking out at the bay. The menu is relatively simple with lobster rolls, caesar salads, and burgers, but that’s exactly why you come to a place like this— classics eaten on picnic tables, great water views, and plenty of drinks." - melissa kravitz hoeffner, team infatuation

I came here on a Saturday with a friend and had to pay a $20 cover charge, per person, just to enter the place. I clarified we were only going to eat but the man said it didn’t matter. We paid the cover charge and waited about 10 min to be seated because the place was very busy. The food took a long time but was very good. We got the lobster roll and the clams/mussel appetizer. The drinks we got were very strong (watermelon margarita and a mule). I couldn’t finish mine because of how strong it was. All together just with two drinks, the lobster roll, an appetizer and the cover charge, we spent close to $200…. I enjoyed the view and the food but I don’t think I would ever come here again because of the cover charge and just the overall experience.

We stopped by the bar for a drink and to enjoy the sunset by the water. The setting was lovely, and the live band was a nice touch. However, it did get quite noisy. I understand that’s often the vibe, and it’s fine in a city setting — but in such a calm waterfront location, I would have preferred a more relaxed atmosphere.

Google
Stopped by for a cocktail before dinner. $20 per person just to walk in. Advice? Turn around and go somewhere that appreciates customers. I saw more people walk away than go in. Reminder. Three years ago there was no cover charge.

Google
I had a disappointing experience here. I sat at a table that did not have a “reserved” sign, ordered food and a drink, and started enjoying my time. Before I even finished my meal and beer, the server suddenly brought me the check without me asking. This made no sense, especially since it was daytime and the place was mostly empty — plenty of other tables were available. If the table was going to be needed, I should have been informed before my food arrived, not in the middle of my meal. It felt like I was being rushed out, which made the whole experience uncomfortable and unwelcoming. I will not be coming back, and I’ll make sure to let others know they shouldn’t waste their time here either.

Google
Great views, great vibes — but be ready to queue (a lot). Stunning waterfront location with great cocktails and a fun live band — but the experience was overshadowed by poor facilities. We visited on Memorial Day weekend, waited 40 minutes to get in and paid $20 entry each. The cocktails were excellent and the live band brought amazing energy - it could have been a perfect sunset. Unfortunately, the experience was seriously let down by the shocking lack of facilities. For such a large and popular venue, having only two bathrooms is unacceptable. Guests were waiting 30+ minutes just to use the restroom. As a result, I missed sunset and left shortly afterwards - that was not a situation I wanted to do twice. To management: If you're charging a cover, especially on holiday weekends, please reinvest some of that revenue into additional restroom options (portaloos would be a start). Guests deserve better than this!

Google
Great service and great location! BUT the food is mediocre at best. Everything here is frozen and double fried. Nothing is freshly made. Feels like the crowd is 22-27 year olds BUT - bar is nice. Go here for drinks not food, in my humble opinion.

Google
Upon the recommendation of our daughter, who lives in the area, we stopped in here for lunch and weren't disappointed. The food was good and the service even better. Views to-die-for!!!

Panagiotis Saplachidis

Google
The best place to have a drink listening to live music and seeing the sun going down. A real gem in Montauk .

Yelp
Came on a Friday night at 7pm, waited about 30 minutes for a table. Ordered immediately food took 50 minutes to come out. They were packed but still felt a bit excessive. Food was decent. Casual vibe so exactly what I expected. Sunset was the best part for sure!

Yelp
A great local, divey spot to catch the sunset. The bartenders were helpful and made great drinks. Just grab a drink at the bar and take it outside to the picnic tables. The sunset view is unbeatable, and the sky lights up beautifully. This place is a classic Montauk experience in the off-season!

Yelp
Growing up and coming out to Montauk the Montauket has a very special place in my heart. They have a beautiful overlook of the Fort Pond Bay Area and one of the best sunsets for dinner right on the water. Should you come for dinner get there early because parking is very limited and chaotic. Drinks are a must here. They have a huge selection of mixed and frozen drinks all of which are fantastic. They do offer a weekly Happy Hour from 3-5. Thursday-the weekends during the summer there will usually be a live band playing outside. Around 6pm it get very busy and crowded as it's a very popular spot for drinks and watching the sunset. Food is good here but the drinks are definitely better.

Yelp
Great sunset spot. Good drinks & food is decent. Crowd enlarges for great sunsets. A local place as well.

Yelp
The Montauket restaurant has evolved over the years- from a basic beer, shot and fried food place and burger place- to a very varied restaurant with a full array of options. The food is consistently pretty good- lobster rolls, fish tacos, calamari, etc. it's proof of Montauk being Hamptonized. Is it a positive? I'm not so sure because Montauk probably needs an entry level place to see a sunset and have a beer more than it needs another overpriced upscale restaurant. We were scrutinized with a time limit and they wanted to be sure we were having a full dinner if we were occupying a table. After I paid the check for 2 tables the young adults from table 2 were approached and accused of leaving without paying. Not a good look.....

Yelp
Ehh not my vibe. Beautiful scenery but for the price just OK. Small space and old style

Yelp
Great meal, view, sunset and reasonable prices. We went on Thursday and they had a great acoustic guitar player. We had Shrimp cocktail (great spicy red sauce), Tuna (grilled and perfectly cooked), ribs taste with FF & coleslaw. All was great. We were there for a wonderful sunset and a good cheesecake to finish things off. Enjoy!!!

Cameron S.

Yelp
Do you want to speak to the manger?? she came over didn't listen to a word I said, asked if I want something else and took my plate and threw my order in the garbage.. Ordered the shrimp cocktail which were not cleaned proper and had the poop vein still in, and the soft shell crab. It was supposed to be on a brioche bun and came on an old crusty ass looking sesame seed bun, I asked for a brioche bun and they gave me one... then I looked at the soft shell crab and noticed HALF OF IT WAS MISSING. Literally half the crab the legs were gone; I wish I took pictures. I showed the waiter and he said do you want to speak to the manger? Come for the view if anything at all.. better places in Montauk than taking an Uber here from town.

Yelp
Spending a birthday weekend in Montauk- boyfriend found this little gem. Upgraded to a full "suite" which has living room, kitchen, king size bed, double headed shower, giant closet, amenities galore and a "back door" that opens to the pool area, cabana, fire pit and animal "relief" area. Yes- pet friendly motel . Friendly staff and best smelling lobby. Rates most likely go up up up during peek season but definitely a place you could rent during the summer months. Close to beach area, water sports(boating/fishing) and a few local shops nearby.

Gia E.

Yelp
Food mid, service was cooked, wait was drid. Negative auraaaaa. No music- bad vibes all round

Yelp
Last minute availability in Montauk! The hotel was a great find and affordable. We only stayed for a night, but would definitely go back next time we plan a trip out East.

Yelp
Super pretty location and fun atmosphere. Good food/ bar vibes. Really enjoyed this place and recommend

Greg H.

Yelp
stay as far away from this place as possible - they never noted or mentioned soda was no refill and banged everyone per cup for an outrageous $140 for 10 people drinking soda - and the food tastes the same as as a sandwich at McDonalds but 5x the price - $528 bill for burgers, chicken fingers and a Caesar wrap - $20 a burger - if we weren't starving we would have left - over an hour to be served as well - plenty of other awesome affordable restaurants in the area - don't be dooped The manager should be fired for not amending the bill - bunch of crooks - if it weren't for the view, they would be out of business. At least we got a few customers at the door to about face and go to another restaurant the sea grill and Duryeas lobster deck

Yelp
The Montauket is known for their drinks and sunset views.. but during COVID, we had to order food with our drinks. Our party of 4 all rated the Montauket as a 4/5. Food was all tasty and fresh. We started with the clam bake and wings, both tasty and a good portion. The wings came with 7 but 6 were drumsticks. For our entrees we ordered tuna salad, lobster roll, and scallops. All were good and portion sizes were filling! Prices reasonable here and chill atmosphere. Oh yeah, and the sunsets...

Lauren S.

Yelp
awful experience !! had to wait in line for dinner for 2 hours but was assured we would be seated still just for the host to say nevermind they're full after so much time - so rude and huge waste of time

Anthony B.

Yelp
The Montauket Bar kitchen is closed until May, but the drinks and sunset were more than perfect. And the service was great too! If you are a smoker, they have an old school, fully stocked cigarette dispenser that sells packs for $16 each. I do not smoke but thought this piece of nostalgia was awesome.

Yelp
ROACHES! BEWARE! Went with my family for dinner. Waitress served us alcohol and wouldn't look at our IDs even tho my boyfriend isn't of age to drink. Sat outside with roaches while we waited for the food. Tried to get the waitress to come over and cancel the food order as we were uncomfortable eating there any more. My brother in law and boyfriend went in to speak with the server when we finally found her and she got the manager. Manager came out drunk and screaming grabbed my boyfriends arm and was extremely aggressive. One of the waiters came out and jumped in their faces as well. Owner then threaten to call the cops after he touched my boyfriend. When we mentioned they can look at the cameras and see what happened they backed down. I would highly recommend staying away unless you want roaches in your food and to be disrespected and violated.

Anthony S.

Yelp
Service was terrible and rude! Owner cursed me and my family out. Got in my face and grabbed me then proceeded to threaten to call the cops on me! Plus there was cockroaches everywhere!!!! Cock roach infestation!! Also served alcohol to minors. Offered to show ID and they didn't wanna see it.

Yelp
most definitely the worst place in Montauk. Would like to come here for a quick beer and a fun time but they are the worst business in America. 0/10 service - if I could rate this 0 stars I would easily. DO NOT COME HERE

Julia W.

Yelp
We just tried to go for a drink and were verbally assaulted by the bouncer. We were a group of 3 women in our 30s and a 13 year old (we've seen kids there countless times) and it wasn't even full - there were many open tables. We wanted to grab a drink for roughly an hour but were refused entrance. While we were waiting a group of 6 men walked in without being carded. He "checked" if we could enter and came back yelling and pointing his finger in our faces telling us to get out without explanation, saying he has "right of admission,". When I asked why he was being so aggressive he said "you started it with your questions". I have not been treated like this ever in an establishment. Montauket has always been a favorite of ours and it will be forever tainted for us. The three of us are so dumbfounded as to how this behavior was allowed - we have still not come up with a logical explanation. This was very upsetting.

Yelp
Previously, I only knew this place for its world famous, very Instagrammable sunsets. Well you can add seamless takeout and above-average fried flounder sandwiches to the list. Reasonably priced as well. The staff was very nice, and our order was ready right on time.

Woods F.

Yelp
Used to be such a gem. Now- DONT order anything from the menu without asking the price. Our bill had an entree item for which we were charged $21 more than the price on the menu. Spoke to the manager- she said I "should have known" it would be "market price". The right thing to do would have been to credit it back. That's just good business. They're simply rude, unprofessional, and trying to rip off the summer crowd.

Yelp
Came here at 6:20 on a Friday they said they weren't letting anyone else in and they were closing for the night but still serving drinks and food. Came here at 545 on Saturday and they said they weren't letting anyone in and were closing at 7 but to come back tomorrow. Came back today at 5 and was told it's dinner service only. We asked if we'd be able to just order something split it and have drinks but apperently that's not allowed. I get there's covid but like this is absolute BS. Loved the sunset here last year but not worth dealing with the losers with bad attitudes that run this place. There's plenty of other places to see a beautiful sunset other than this place. Really bummed out wanted to take a sunset pic here.
google avatar

Giana A.

Yelp
Don't waste your time. Tried two nights in a row and were turned away due to them being at capacity and told to come back the next night early, so we did. The third night, they were open and asked us if we were here for dinner. We weren't, as we had a later reservation at a better restaurant, but wanted drinks and apps to hold us over. We were turned away because we weren't gonna order entrees..... LOL sorry no one wants your terrible food (I've had it before, its not good) and just wants to use you for your sunset views. We will take our business (and our friend groups who we bring to montauk with us) elsewhere. There are numerous places who offer great food, don't care if you're just there to drink, AND have better views. Stop trying to be so greedy and pretentious, you're literally a shack. PS: they have a 60/100 health violation score. Ew.
google avatar

Sandra Lorena V.

Yelp
Upon arriving during its prime time (an hour before sunset) we were told it was a 45 minute- hour wait. That was fine and we got out names on the list (just a party of two.) We gave them my number and the bouncer said he would call when a table was ready (with ten minutes in advance.) We walked around and luckily did see the views around but after an hour we didn't hear anything. We walked back and I expected that if there was a wait still, there would still be people outside waiting. No one. The bouncer was chilling, drinking his beer. I reminded him of my wait and he had no idea. He went to the back, came back and got us seats. I'm not sure what that was about but why did others get called and seated- but not us?... The food itself was mediocre (fish sandwich and fish tacos with fries.) The A-OK is for the BBC frozen drink that was delicious, the waitress who was nice and the views.
google avatar

Ryan L.

Yelp
Dog friendly bar & restaurant, that's about all it has going for it. Long wait for service. Food was undercooked and drinks were weak. Way too packed even during the week. You're better off going into town for a better experience trust me!
google avatar

Katherine D.

Yelp
This is a casual waterside place. They do a lobster roll on a sandwich roll which isn't my preference. I did like the mussels and clams in the cream sauce. It was filling and had a delicious creamy sauce. I also liked the clam chowder. It's a bit off the beaten path and has a popular bar scene. It was a relaxing lunch.

Lizzie W.

Yelp
Incredible views and environment for a chill, beach meal, but rough food. Expensive for a bunch of frozen to fried food. My lobster roll came on a stale bun, and the lobster was over cooked/chewy and not good.

Marie N.

Yelp
hands down the best place in montauk. the family that owns it are so nice. kind of wish fewer people knew of it so it wouldn't be so crowded.

Stacey M.

Yelp
This place serves alcohol to underage people and they should be reported. So that's the first thing. Second, the host Rob came very close to physically assaulting me... I'm a 5'3 woman and he is about 7 feet tall and he kept calling me lady and screaming and cursing at me and getting in my face. Simply because I asked how long we had to wait for a table. The manager Marilyn ( I'm guessing maybe Owner based on the previous reviews or wife of the owner?) Was drunk the whole time and openly drinking wine and gin and tonics. I heard a group of girls saying they didn't get carded and they were 18 drinking at the bar so I'm going to be reporting them for serving under age at the bar and not carding. Easily the worst experience I've had at any business establishment ever. They break the law. I don't really know what else there is to say.
google avatar

Kelly L.

Yelp
4 stars for the food - scrumptious buttery linguine with clams and tasty seared ahi salad. 5 stars for the jaw-dropping view of the sunset!!!! We came on a Thurs about 6:15pm and there was an hour wait. We took a nice little stroll down to Duryea's while we were waiting.
google avatar

Lisa G.

Yelp
Came here for the sunset and drinks. I wasn't disappointed. A must do while in Montauk.

Alex O.

Yelp
BEWARE: Dirty, crowded, encountered a man peeing towards the sunset by the fence, a woman squatting to pee in the parking lot, and saw someone knock over a table and drinks by the bar... all during the day! Hamptons = Class? Not here. I came here after searching for "the best sunset in the Hamptons." Sure, the sunset was beautiful, but the management of this restaurant / bar needs to rethink what the heck they're doing. If I had known the atmosphere would be a dive bar pre-COVID style, I would have stayed far, far away. So if you're reading this now, here's your warning. I'm totally shocked because nothing in the photos or reviews gave me any warning. There was a live band playing (they were awesome), but the singer kept saying, "Keep your s*** out of my face. Please keep back." just to give you a sense of how crowded this place was. Dress code? Sure, you can wear a cute sundress for the Hamptons, but I'd recommend a bikini or bra. Maybe just come naked? Based on what I saw, I'm sure it'd be allowed. The reviews and the location make Montauket seem so nice, but my experience was a 1/5. Do better, guys! Or advertise this place for what it is - a sunset & dive bar.

Jim H.

Yelp
Nice spot for drinks at good prices, with great views and no pretensions. Hasn't changed in 20 years, which is a good thing!
google avatar

Tara D.

Yelp
Dive bar with excellent bar staff. Good drinks, better sunset views. Outdoor patio is great. Live bands on the weekends.

Carla D.

Yelp
Beautiful sunsets. Good food and reasonable prices. Friendly service and low key vibe. Can't go wrong.
google avatar

Kym P.

Yelp
All the reviews said, "Don't go for the food-it's a bar." BUT, we found the food very good, huge portions and fresh. Great service. Since it was a cool, cloudy Thursday night there were very few people eating. Several men at the bar drinking. I'm sure the sunsets are spectacular, but there was too much cloudiness for us to get to experience a sunset view.
google avatar

Kerri S.

Yelp
The best spot for a sunset happy hour! It was pretty busy which we were a bit surprised by for an off season weekend, but we found a table outside immediately. The vibe was very chill and friendly. Haven't stayed at the actual hotel, but if you're looking for a drink and a great view, this is your place.
google avatar

Aish T.

Yelp
Montauket is THE place to watch the sunset. The place does get crowded so definitely get there earlier. If you are having dinner, you do get to sit by the water and have unobstructed view of the sunset. Wish they had better food options but it does the job. Staff is great too! Must see place to go in Montauk.
google avatar

Nicole M.

Yelp
The food and cocktails were mediocre, but the sunset view was gorgeous. The music was also fun and felt perfect for the vibe. Perfect spot for afternoon drinking into happy hour time.

Kevin H.

Yelp
No reservation so when I arrived I was told it would be 45-60 minutes for a table for two. Two hours later still waiting I noticed others slipping the bouncer/host money and being sat right away. My big mistake visiting from Virginia I forgot I was in NY. Be prepared to pay the bounce / host to be sat.
google avatar

Mike N.

Yelp
Been to the bar here many times to watch the sunset or just grab a drink outside. It's not fancy, trendy or a scene like some places out here but it has undeniable charm. Also is hands down one of the most beautiful bars outlet here. Their drink selection is solid and they always have some good beers on tap. A trip to montauk wouldn't be complete without checking out a sunset here!
google avatar

M L.

Yelp
Best sunset view from Fort Pond Bay (similar at Navy Beach and Duryeas). Wait staff and hostess are miserable people but the bartenders are nice and friendly. Drinks for Montauk are reasonable-ish. You can either sit and have a meal or go to the right and stand by the fence. Get there early by 6-6:30 for summer sunsets as parking can be limited.
google avatar

Tran T.

Yelp
Montauket is where you want to be for sunset views. The bar is flanked by locals and the outdoor gets crowded by everyone visiting trying to get the best spot for a view. We solely went here for a drink and to catch the sunset which did not disappoint. The sky turned so many colors while we were there, it was absolutely beautiful!!! We got there a little early which was a good idea because it got crowded very quickly. Do it!!
google avatar

Neelum K.

Yelp
Come here for the sunsets and you will never regret it. This is an old classic. Now that the young crowd has other "more cool and hip" spots to NOT see the sunset but be SEEN, this place is more spacious than ever! You get the best views of the sun dipping into the horizon and no distractions whatsover. Lots of seats, lots of views and lots of peace....
google avatar

Joseph D. S.

Yelp
Chill, low-key place to hang and watch the sunset. For some reason, tons of people showed up right before sunset, took over the tables, ordered litte or no drinks, and left right away. Not cool, people! I like older places like this with zero pretention. I saw a late-middle-aged lady drinking and smoking with an oxygen tube in her nose. There were a few old guys in the interior bar who had seen too much sun. Rock on! For drinks, the BBC, hard lemonade, and punch were all deliciously coma-inducing (add a floater for 2 bucks), and there was plenty of room outside to enjoy the sea air and relax. All in all, there are fewer and fewer places like this left on the east end. And I hear it is for sale, so please go and enjoy before they start serving ceviche and edamame to the appletini crowd!

Jennifer A.

Yelp
Great place to relax and wait for the sunset. Friendly staff and great clam chowder. Get there early to grab the best seats but overall this place is exactly what you want in montauk: cool breezes, ocean view and great drinks.
google avatar

Priya G.

Yelp
The sunset over the water here is pretty amazing, and with a cover band in the background, it's got great vibes. On a weekend before sunset, it can get pretty packed, so for the best views try to get here earlier. We only got beers here but they have a pretty impressive selection. Their grapefruit montauk was amazing. It's really just a fun bar, standard annoyed/overwhelmed staff at a popular spot but would definitely go back!

Yelp
Confrontational and violent greeter - be aware and avoid. Got there at 5:30 hoping for a table after trying the day before without luck and being told by the same greeter to come back the next day between 5:00 - 6:00. Same greeter tells us that there are no tables available and no waiting list space (at 5:30) for the night. When I asked why he had told us to come back between 5:00 - 6:00 the day before, he took off his mask and started approaching me while screaming and cussing like a 5 year old with a temper tantrum. Clearly a ticking time bomb - avoid this place.
