Incredible artwork honoring Lucy, Anarcha, and Betsey. Brown does a good job explaining the connections and importance of the land, phrasing, and the Great Migration. I look forward to the additions to The More Up Movement.

This is an amazing and moving dedication to the mothers of gynecology ! I had no idea but have researched the background and are grateful for the artists work and bringing this history to life. It honors these women and those who are unnamed.

A fascinating understanding into injustice in the development of the modern pharmaceutical and healthcare system, rarely discussed in depth in racial history. Founder and artist Michelle was incredibly dynamic and passionate, with our group greatly appreciating the thoughtful and personal program she curated for us. She has big plans to extend her organization’s mission. Only a few blocks from the lynching monument site. The cafe’s food here was also the best Southern cuisine we had the entire trip. Great gift shop too. Highly recommend!

The Mothers of Gynecology Park in Montgomery, AL, is not just a park; it's a powerful testament to the strength, resilience, and unwavering spirit of the women who shaped the course of medical history. Visiting this park was a profoundly moving experience that left an indelible mark on my heart and soul. The meticulously landscaped grounds are a picturesque backdrop for the striking sculptures and tributes that honor the groundbreaking contributions of African American women to the field of gynecology. Each statue stands tall, depicting the women with grace, dignity, and a fierce determination that speaks volumes about their legacy. The attention to detail in every aspect of The Mothers of Gynecology Park is nothing short of outstanding. The sculptures are not just life-like; they are imbued with an emotion that is palpable. As I walked through the park, I could feel the strength and resilience of these women, their stories echoing through the carefully crafted artwork. The park's design pays homage to their achievements, inviting visitors to reflect upon the challenges they faced and the triumphs they achieved against all odds. What struck me the most was the educational value of the park. The informative plaques and displays provided a wealth of knowledge about the history of gynecology and the vital role these women played in advancing medical science. It was a humbling experience to learn about their struggles and triumphs, underscoring the importance of acknowledging their legacy in shaping the healthcare landscape. Moreover, the park serves as a beacon of hope and inspiration for future generations. It educates, enlightens, and empowers visitors, encouraging them to embrace the values of determination, perseverance, and equality. The Mothers of Gynecology Park stands as a reminder that progress is possible, even in the face of adversity, and that the contributions of women, particularly women of color, should never be overlooked or forgotten.

The statues are great in photos but nothing compares to the magnitude and wonder of seeing Anarcha, Lucy, and Betsy sculptures in person. totally blown away by the talent and the history i never learned before. Also took a tour downtown with Michelle Browder, which was super informative and fun!! Definitely worth a visit if youre in the MGM area

archa Lucy Betsey were enslaved women that were experimented on by Dr. J. Marian Sims in the 1840s, all in the name of science. Each iron sculpture is distinctly different and is adorned with the tools that replicate what were used during the surgeries as well as pieces of beauty like the variations of sculpted flowers. As you walk around the More Up Campus you will see panels explaining the healthcare practices for women of color and how it was predominantly performed by black midwives and was quickly dismantled by white men with influence who believed that science and invasive tools were the best way to care for women’s bodies. It is with much gratitude and appreciation that I thank these Mothers of Gynecology.

I am overwhelmed with the story told and the art shared. This visit epitomizes taking back the narrative and reclaiming one’s power and dignity. You will leave a changed person and, as a white man, I left with a deep shame that my ancestors behaved with such wanton cruelty to those in their most vulnerable state. But damn if it isn’t powerful to see that narrative turned on its head.

There is a very good reason that all of these reviews are 5 stars. This is a "don't miss" as far as place to visit in Montgomery. Michelle's energy, passion, and family legacy all combine to create a space of learning, healing, and compassion - with plenty of good humor and fun to go with it. I had no idea how much I had to learn and am so grateful that I had the opportunity to visit. Will be back as much as possible!
