The Mulberry - Review - Center City - Philadelphia - The Infatuation

"Inside The Mulberry, a cozy pub on Arch Street, you’ll find a bit of everything. They have a William Penn sketch hanging up, Ben Franklin (who’s chewing bubble gum) on the wallpapers, and even a few paintings that could belong in the colonial gallery at the Philadelphia Museum of Art. You’re not coming here to look at throwback watercolors, though. You should stop by because they have a long 26-seat bar, plenty of seating, and a menu that includes some things like Thai coconut mussels, juicy burgers, pizzas, and large racks of lamb that you can split with friends. On the weekends, they also have a weekend brunch that starts at 11am and lasts all day. During Happy Hour (4-6pm), you can sip on $5 beers and $8 wines and sit behind one of their two fireplaces while you decide between which sauce to drench your smoked wings with (go cilantro lime-habanero)." - Candis R. I ordered the Honey I’m Comb (whiskey, lemon, ginger ale)…blended beautifully! I also ordered the Philly cheesesteak. It was seasoned well, the perfect amount of cheese (nestled throughout, not just on the side), the bread is toasted to perfection, light onions is just the right amount. Could use some type of dipping sauce (I personally like dipping my bread in something). Anthony “Ant” was theeeeee best! So friendly, attentive, and knows the menu.

Fantastic spot!! Excellent atmosphere and service. The food was epic. Best steak frit. And Rhode Island calamari! Highly recommended

Great bar with a really fun vibe! The staff is amazing — super friendly and attentive. Drinks were solid and well-made. Definitely a place I’d come back to.

Went to this Resturant with coworkers to celebrate retirement with an out of town friend. We ordered our beverages and while waiting to order food a mouse came out from under one of the tables. We got the attention of the waitresses who summoned the manager. Manager took a few minutes to show up at our table. Oh and we moved ourselves to another table. The mouse then reappeared. The manager showed up and said she would give us 10% off our entire bill. Lady are you nuts! We can’t eat after visually seeing a mouse. She also made us pay for the beverages but nothing was taking off the bill. Drinks should have been free! My drink but I left it. Let the mouse drink it.

Went with a group for lunch. It was not busy and the table service was good. The best part of this place is the very cool atmosphere. I will come back for drinks for sure. The food was very underwhelming. Not impressed by any of the 12 dishes served to our table. My chicken spaetzle had absolutely no flavor whatsoever. Chicken had weird texture and no flavor, spaetzle also had zero flavor. Disappointing and odd lunch. For $30+ for a lunch dish I expected something done well and delicious. No one at the table raved about their food. On to the positive. Great atmosphere and would love to spend time here. Hoping it was an off day for the kitchen but will go for drinks. Loved the atmosphere.

Google
Came during restaurant week and was so underwhelmed, especially for the price… Pros: mojito, peach cobbler and duck were good! Cons: chickpea salad was flavorless, the “smash burger” was not smashed and had a weird dressing all over it, fries overly salted For the price, this was definitely not worth it. Our server Jada was attentive and great though!

Google
Went to the Mulberry for dinner. Nice layout, good design. When I went it was loud but it is a bar that is popular with the local businesses so it was to he expected. The noise did simmer down as the night went on. The food was good. The burger and wings were the best of the night. Also tried the coconut shrimp which was good, and the spicy rigatoni which was okay. The staff were very good, had a great server. Overall, it was a good experience, I recommend.

My wife and I enjoyed this little gem for a late night snack and a night cap. Being open till 2am was a plus but our bartender John was very welcoming and smart a real pro

Yelp
Has great variety of healthy option during lunch and Happy hour , it's one of the first go to option for me and colleagues.

Yelp
Really enjoyed the mulberry. The fries were lovely, and our server was particularly helpful. He was extremely thoughtful and answered all our questions throughout our meal , checked in on us and we had a lovely time. Great ambiance as well!

Yelp
Horrible bar food. So much for a Philly Cheesesteak. Very dry and not worth the $20. Service and staff great but no discount for crappy food
google avatar

Yelp
Lively spot with lots of seating and a big bar. Seems like a popular after work spot, and has a big drink menu. Food menu is a bit more limited, but the meals were good. Can't go wrong with a decent cheesesteak. All around pretty good. Thanks

Yelp
Sports bar around the corner, a lot of people doing their holiday party here. We had one server going around taking orders, which came quickly enough, standard bar drink menu. The food - mixed. Pizzas were good, but the buffalo wings were terrible. I guess balance? The cheesesteak egg rolls were only so-so.

Yelp
The interior is nice. Feels like a relaxed but upscale place with a little bit of an old school feel to it with the checkered flooring. The bar was packed but we were seated early which was nice. The service was good, but the server could have come over a bit more often. I was out of water for a while and my drink was empty for a good chunk of time. By the time the server came back I was done my meal and didn't order another drink, but the Cranberry Mule was good. The Garlic Notes and Buffalo Chicken dip was an interesting combo. It was really good with a nice spice level. The Chicken Milanese was ok, it was a bit dry and barely had any balsamic on it. I think if there was a bit more of that, I wouldn't have felt the chicken was as dry. I'd go back and try something else on the menu.

Yelp
We literally came to The Mulberry since two other places were unavailable or too busy, so it was literally a last resort since we were hungry and soaked from the rain. The menu was not too impressive and we struggled to even want anything. I was personally just eating for survival. There were some items we wanted that they ran out of, so that was pointless. Starting off my coworkers had the Chips and Guac ($8) and a Classic Pizza ($16). I had the Avocado Toast ($12). It was bland, not filling, and just for survival. We tried a few rounds of a bunch of things from their menu including the Champagne Mule ($14), French Gimlet ($15), Sauvignon Blanc ($12/glass), Sangria ($10/glass), Electric Margarita ($16), Jameson Orange ($11). Later on I smelled brussels, which my coworkers originally wanted so I asked them, and they restocked. So I ordered some Brussel Sprouts ($6) and Fries ($8) to share. Service was a bit lacking for my taste. We started off at the tables and got a little neglected so we closed out and went to the bar. Some bartenders we liked and found more helpful than others. I didn't enjoy the food and I didn't really like the drinks either but my coworkers didn't want to go and we kept ordering. Cheap alcohol and lacking service. We spent $362 before tip for a really subpar experience.

Yelp
A large group of us came to the Mulberry after a show (the hosts had reserved some tables). I think more of us showed up than expected, but the staff was amazing and kept up with our drink and food orders all night. Highly recommend!

Yelp
We were on this side of town and wanted to try someplace new for a late dinner after an event. I got a burger. It was pretty good. We shared a big salad. The kale Caesar came to the table with half kale, half spinach. That's okay by me since I wanted greens but it was not what I expected. My husband's maitake mushroom stroganoff had more white mushrooms than maitake and was more like a noodle Primavera dish, with crunchy bell peppers and a thin sauce. Again, it was good but not what we expected based on the description on the menu. Mulberry seems like a friendly neighborhood bar/tavern. It's also a good option for tourists or business travelers, resourcing if they need to accommodate a group of people with some picky eaters in the mix.

Yelp
First off, they do not have dessert. We went for dessert because everything online said they did. We had appetizers instead. The food left much to be desired. The people at the bar looked like they were enjoying it.

Yelp
cute spot, but the food is average at best. i ordered the breakfast tacos which were very unmemorable. my friend ordered the breakfast sandwich and did not even touch the potatoes. the food was not cheap either for the quantity. there was no wait at 1p on a sunday. the restaurant was almost entirely empty, and we were seated immediately. the only reason i would come back is if i was looking for a sit-down lunch at a nicer establishment and everything else in the area has a long wait.

Yelp
We came in with a huge group on Saturday night (with advance notice to the staff) and the staff were so kind and efficient! I would go back anytime and totally book a party there. Thanks for taking care of us!

Yelp
Ok so first time here. First thing as soon as I walked in was it reminded me of city tap house! ...Nice vibe. Good atmos. Good lookers around I'd come back and chill for a pint; maybe pick at a few things off the menu to get a better look at what they have avail food wise. So i checked out their IG to see what was the buzz. IG made everything look super good! Food came out and it was not quite IG looking.. but still tasty, nice job Chef Bree (if she's still whippin up the grub). Our server for the eve, Jada (spelling?) She was solid . Not just saying that bc she was easy on the eyes . Attentive, prompt and handled well on busy floor. Thanks love. Check it out. I'll find an excuse to go back.

Yelp
I will start this review by acknowledging that I mainly came to the restaurant for their garlic knots Buffalo chicken dip (I'm shocked other restaurants haven't thought of this?!!) the garlic knots were great and not too doughy. The dip itself was just okay. The star of the meal was their seasonal Caramel Apple Margarita. The drink was refreshing and not overly sweet. Our server, Kevin, was very attentive and checked in on us periodically. I would come back here if I'm in the area, but will not go out of my way to return.
google avatar

Chris T.

Yelp
The first thing I wanna talk about is that Caramel apple margarita, that thing was so delicious, I would go back specifically for that. The fries weren't that good to be honest, would not get them on an order again. The garlic knot Buffalo dip was missing something and I couldn't put my finger on it, it has potential to be better. The pizza was a good lil pizza. The ambience of the place was very laid back and the customer service was amazing, shout out to the staff.

Yelp
Went there for a few drinks with friends, no wait time on Friday night. Staff was nice and attentive. Atmosphere was quite and classy, and the drinks were simply delicious and pleasant to look at. Tried some of their snacks and they came with great portions. Wanted to try the octopus but it was sold out at the moment. Friends LOVED the Negroni, highly recommend it if you love the smoky taste as well.

Yelp
Server Kersten M was amazing else this would be a three star review. When we walked in we were ignored by the greeter and two groups behind us were ushered in right in front of us. To us it seemed like ageism - but news flash! - old people have money and love to spend it. The Mulberry was hopping tonight, it was a fundraiser for the soon-to-be newly elected PA governor. We arrived as that was winding down. The food and drinks we had were good! I ordered a King Crimson beverage but they were missing one ingredient so they couldn't make it. Ironically we're in town to see a band with the drummer from King Crimson. (Sad face emoji here). The wedge salad used "Boston head" lettuce instead of iceberg - I support this! Then I had the cheesesteak- because it's PHILLY!- and it was big but perhaps a bit overdone. Also had the chicken sandwich, both came with excellent fries. They use some mystery spice on the fries that makes them irresistible. The drinks we did have were super tasty. Front of house needs work - I'm talking about YOU, gal with the orange hair who was constantly playing with her phone instead of watching for customers... Mega praise for our server Kersten though.

Yelp
I've been on the hunt to find the best Espresso Martini in Philadelphia and I finally found it. The Mulberry's Espresso Mar-Tiffany. 100000/10. No questions asked. The burger and pizza were very tasty and we appreciated the Gluten Free options on the menu! The ambiance also hits the mark as it's sleek and stylish. 10/10 recommend.

Yelp
Zero complaints The food, service, and the table being ready when I arrived; excellent. I made 6pm reservations in a Friday and arrived almost 10 minutes early but was seated after checking in. I started off with a glass of the Cigar City IPA beer to go along with the garlic knot Buffalo chicken dip starter. My girlfriend started off with the chicken wings and cheese curds and me being the greedy person I am, I had to try her food (LOL). Very good. The wings were fried just right and seasoned perfectly. The cheese curds sat on top of some type of sauce but even without the sauce, they were yummy. My Buffalo chicken dip was yummy as well and surprisingly not spicy. Since it was Buffalo flavored, I assumed it would be. I stopped myself from eating the entire dish because I ordered the seasoned fries and the Mulberry burger. I loved the combination of lettuce, tomatoes, pickles, onions, bacon jam, pepper Jack cheese, and garlic aioli on a soft bun. No ketchup needed. I told friends about this restaurant the next day so I have plans to return.
google avatar

Ryan H.

Yelp
Definitely a sleeper spot in Philly. Ideal spot to get drinks after work but fancy enough to come for a sit down dinner. The food is well above average.

Dustin R.

Yelp
Best wings I've had in a long time. I had both the Jameson Buffalo and the citrus lime wings. I wouldn't really recommend the citrus lime wings, but the Jameson buffalo was good enough for me to go 3 days in a row with my family. I think they could be a little crispier, but we ended up just ordering them that way. Good atmosphere, nice people.

Yelp
We made a reservation and came a bit early and thankfully they were able to seat us right away. The service was super slow but friendly. We got drinks. I ordered the champagne Mule even though I'm not a big ginger beer person. The mulberry syrup was the reason for me. It felt only right to drink a mulberry cocktail at the mulberry. The drink was good, I like vodka and champagne. Didn't really taste the mulberry itself, unfortunately, but I didn't dislike the drink. It wasn't ginger heavy. The bf ordered a beer, which said was a fruit sour but tasted more like a brown to us. Not sure if it was the wrong beer or just a poor description on BeerMenus? I'm a picky eater and didn't see anything that was calling to me so I went with a Smash Burger. From the menu: Smash Burger (GF bun available) $16 Double Stacked Angus Beef, Lettuce, Tomato, Onions, Pickles, Cheddar Cheese, Bacon This Burger DID have a special sauce that was NOT listed on the menu. We both would have taken it off, had we known. The burgers were super greasy and the bun was totally soggy on the bottom. We both found the meat to be very salty. The fries were honestly the star of the meal. We ended up getting out of there in just over an hour. Atmosphere was nice, albeit a bit loud. Some nearby guests were having a good old time, which was nice to see, but were extremely loud so we didn't want to hang any longer than it took to get the check.
google avatar

Jen C.

Yelp
Cute spot, open late, friendly service. Across from the Four Seasons, so it's good to dip into if JG is just impossible to get a cocktail. Red Breast 15 neat on a cold night and I'm a happy girl. definitely need to come back and try some of the snacks and cocktails another day!
google avatar

Dom A.

Yelp
I forgot what this place used to be called but my friends and I went here after work Friday and I was surprised that it wasn't too packed but I can't complain we were able to get seats right at the bar right away. The bartender said most people work from home on Fridays now but the place is nice looking and spacious. I with the happy hour cocktail which was a cranberry mule that was made pretty good and order the buffalo chicken dip that comes with garlic knots. I would prefer chips with buffalo chicken dip but it wasn't too bad. I also had the Jameson buffalo wings that cooked to perfection

Ann L.

Yelp
Woke drunk customer 1 Dedicated bartender 0 It is pretty pathetic you decided to fire a dedicated bartender over a JOKING conversation he was having with his friends - not a conversation directed at ANYONE let alone a drunk patron, who wasn't minding her business and listening to a private conversation. That kid doesn't have a mean bone in his body yet you decided to jump the gun and fire him because you were worried about losing ONE customer!!! Well because of your actions you have lost over 10 customers - we will not ever be back!
google avatar

Matt L.

Yelp
Stopped here on a Thurs night 6:45 without reservation and was seated quickly. Sat by window facing bar with Phillies game on the multiple screens. Is this a sports bar or a hipster joint or a foodie spot, not sure but a bit of each. Interior spacious and service really great. Had the Mulberry Cocktail, sweet and thirst quenching. Wifey had the Salmon BALT and I had the Smash Burger. Both satisfying and served with lots of fries. Overall solid and will come back.

Yelp
Wow, what a meal! Wonderful atmosphere, knowledgeable & attentive staff, extensive menu, specials, beer, wine, & cocktail list. Many options were so good it was hard to pick. Our group of 3 adults & 1 kiddo got a few appetizers, 2 specials (one entree and one pizza), & the Mulberry Burger not to mention a few beers & a cocktail. The beer list had some awesome beers both locally known and larger craft brands that are more broadly available. They had a cask beer that looked good but I didn't order it. I had (a few) of the Cigar City Jai Alai IPA and my wife had one of those as well as one of the other IPA's on draft... her sister ordered the gin cocktail, I can't remember what all was in it but she was saddened by the fact that she drove because she could only have one. The buffalo chicken dip was delicious, it came with 5 small round rolls with a crispy exterior and a fluffy, chewy interior sitting atop a lovely buffalo chicken layer in a cast iron pan. Spicy without compromising flavor for heat. The rolls were also topped with chopped garlic. The fish special was crab cakes and they did not disappoint. The two other adults in the group were from Maryland originally so they are quite particular about their crab cakes but they did not disappoint. They had minimal filler but weren't the most jumbo lump I've seen. I had a few bites are they were top-notch. Served over a bed of creamy mashed potatoes with asparagus tips. The pizza special was ricotta, tomato, basil with a balsamic drizzle. The crust was golden brown with a crispy exterior and chewy center, creamy cheese, roasty tomato, and sweet balsamic reduction. Even the kiddo enjoyed it! Mulberry burger was one of the best burgers I've had out in a long time. I'm not a fan of mayo so I got the aioli on the side (kiddo loves to dip & dunk her food). The mulberry bacon jam added just a touch of sweetness to the perfectly done burger, along with onion straws, pepper jack cheese, pickles & lettuce. Fries were thin cut and crispy. A fantastic burger to go along with your namesake. Overall, I can happily say that we have added a new restaurant to our mix when we go to the museum area. This was the perfect nightcap after our evening at the Franklin Institute.

Yelp
Reservation was easy to do. We were greeted and seated promptly. It wasn't too busy when we dined, so there was good spacing between diners. Our drinks were ok. My friend had iced-tea and I had a Mimosa (which was a little on the weak side) but refreshing with cranberry instead of orange juice. We had the Apple French Toast & Brunch Pizza. My friend said her French toast was good but would have preferred if the apples had the skin removed. My pizza was ok but had too many eggs on it. The base was a bit stodgy so there was no way I could finish it. The white cheese combo was good but I'd opt for something else if I returned. Our server was attentive without being intrusive, we appreciated that. It was nice & I'm willing to give them another chance with different food selections.
google avatar

Shanel S.

Yelp
I would give them a 5 because I'm coming back. I stupidly went on St Pattys day but they had a whole couch situation with tv and fireplace off to the side... away from the celebratory folks. The server was prompt and attentive and apologetic for the crazy time. He actually asked us to come back because he knows the atmosphere is better then. I was cool. Nobody bothered us, drinks solid. But you can't go wrong with double Casamigos on the rocks. We came b/c a friend recommended chocolate martini. She had two so they still good! I would come back and try the dry rub wings, grilled octopus and mussels. The fries are bangin! I'm coming back sans St Patty's

Warren B.

Yelp
Food 5/10 Service 8/10 Bar,Liq 8/10 Vibe 7/10 Drinks and bar staff are pretty cool and Tiffany makes great drinks. So the Buffalo chicken dip was way to expensive for 2 sour dough shaped croissants lol. Who uses sour dough bread with Buffalo chicken dip?! Any one? $18 bucks for this btw. 2 pieces of bread. And the ribs app were cold and the coleslop was terrible. Period. After posting i was approach by the GM and the owner they kicked me out. So beware.... If you can't take constructive criticism about your food then don't have Yelp.

Laura F.

Yelp
I want to thank the owners of this establishment who I can assure you, are attentive and respectful of their patrons' experience as well as their staff.
google avatar

Lizzy K.

Yelp
3 stars because service is incredibly slow, food is consistently missing key ingredients or just down right cold, and prices just keep going higher despite execution getting worse. Best part of this place is their cocktail menu, TVs, cozy atmosphere, and friendly staff. Nice place to hang out but generally not a good restaurant. Better off walking down the street to City Tap or Victory to be honest.
google avatar

Mary Jo R.

Yelp
I visited The Mulberry for happy hour last week, and then again for Galentine's Day brunch this past weekend. Their happy hour deals are some of the best I have seen in the city. Our server, Alex, was very friendly and checked on us many times. The drinks are delicious, and although four of us just shared appetizers, everything was very good. Galentine's brunch was also very tasty. I really appreciate how they offer more than one flavor of mimosa! Our server was very pleasant and attentive. I look forward to my next visit.
google avatar

Natalie C.

Yelp
Recently reopened, the Mulberry has a European pub vibe. Chill and easy is what they embody. Great cocktails, decent wines. Food is great - the fries (get the truffle!) are amazing, the hummus massive (great touch with the grilled veggies). Looking forward to making this my after-work spot.
google avatar

Jennifer Q.

Yelp
So I really only was coming here because it is around the corner from my work but I ordered the shrimp and grits and now here I am having to write about it because it is so good. People should come here for brunch so it doesn't stop being open for brunch. Please and thank you.
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
Getting treated like a nuisance for trying to order food is always nice, isn't it? If you are looking for an experience like that, check out the Mulberry.

Michael O.

Yelp
To say I'm shocked is an understatement. This place was filthy and disgusting. Bartenders were rude and drinks were bad. DO NOT GO HERE Embarrassing
google avatar

Nikki K.

Yelp
Food is really good, servers are nice but this service is terrible. We waited for food and drinks for an incredibly long time, more than a 1 hour wait for the food and more than 15 minutes for a drink. The worst was it wasn't that crowded
google avatar

Yelp
Walked in for an event at the Mulberry. I wasn't disappointed! The food selection was amazing. I loved how they stuffed the trays to the max! The olives on the charcuterie board were pretty tasty. Also I loved the roasted vegetables and the hummus tasted so pure (like not frills...just grinded chickpeas). All the fruits in the charcuterie board were fresh. I didn't like how the grapes still were on the vine however. The pizza came out tasty. I've never had fig on my pizza with arugula but that is a total game changer. What I like about their pizza is it is pretty doughy. I love an airy/doughy consistency with my pizza! The dessert were pretty good as well. I had a brownie that was still pretty warm. The server worked our event pretty well. I was basically all over the bar and he was able to find me even when I switched to a different location. I had a cocktail at the event. The cocktail was called the Mulberry. The Mulberry is a very tasty drink. I highly suggest getting one if you are visiting!

Amar M.

Yelp
Great food, drink and service. Only issue is the long lamps hanging down from the ceiling if you're trying to watch the TVs. Seems like a major design flaw if you want people to come here to watch sports. Won't be coming back unless that's fixed

Reid C.

Yelp
The seven of us attended the Mulberry Friday night for a celebration of life. From the service to the food, everything was horrendous. Their wine selection is terrible, below house wine grade. Several plates of food came out dry and cold. Several apps didn't even make it to the table. The service staff was not attentive, and forgot about management, nonexistent. Don't even think about touching a plate of meat there, you'll be sick for days! We found a bone in the steak frites. I wouldn't even serve my poor dog that dish. $302 check later and we were all robbed from our hard working dollars on what was supposed to be a beautiful evening. I sure hope management gets this establishment under control.

Devon G.

Yelp
Service was amazing, tyler and tiffany best bartenders in philly. Great service good vibes and comfortable. Sports games on all day and food is incredible
google avatar

Julia T.

Yelp
Great spot for after work happy hour or dinner. Our waiter was fantastic. He was attentive and made great recommendations. We had the cheese curls, fried cauliflower and prosciutto arugula fig pizza which were all pretty standard. The menu seemed pretty solid and I'd love to go back and try some more items. Overall the space was quite large so seemed like a good place for group happy hours or hangouts. They also had a cozy fireplace nook in the entry way and areas for smaller parties. My only complaint was how close the tables were together and how close we were seated to another party when there seemed to be other tables available. Not the end of the world by any means but the man next to us had to basically lean on our table to squeeze by each time he got out of his seat to go to the bathroom. But the restaurant overall was vibrant, warm and clean.

Yelp
5 stars on a bad day! My go to place for service w a smile and to see some skin. Knee skin that is. Ooo oo baby! Drinks are great, food's better. Thanks Johnny and Rahmir!

Yelp
Amazing waitress! She was attentive and kind. Food came out quickly and was still hot. Drinks were also really good. Best part was the food. 10/10. Will definitely be coming back, specifically for those buffalo chicken garlic knots!!
google avatar

Yelp
Definitely recommend trying out this restaurant if you're in the Philly area. The service was great, and all the food we had was pretty good especially the garlic knot buffalo chicken dip.

Yelp
Food was excellent and service was 5 stars. Our bartender Daryl made us feel very special among many regulars We felt a part of the conversation at the bar. He introduced us to several regulars and made us come back again!
google avatar

Michelle K.

Yelp
We enjoyed the Mulberry but found it reasonably average. The pizza was OK. I liked the spicy rigatoni with sausage - it was a good sized serving with really nice flavor. The service was attentive and friendly but our waiter didn't seem to know much about the menu. Nice atmosphere and location. Would give it another shot.

Yelp
With the closing of James, we've been keeping an eye on what was moving in. It turns out the same owners did more of a reworking of the space that makes it feel more open and still cozy and a refresh of the menu. I called in a takeout order for a Mulberry Burger (which also can be made GF or vegetarian). I was disappointed to find my medium rare burger was solidly well-done. The toppings were generally tasty (despite some unexpected raw onions) but a more toasted bun would have made it more complete. I'll give the Mulberry another try but it will be with different menu items next time.
