"After 28 years, it appears another Chicago dive bar has closed. The Mutiny, a small dingy bar known for free rock shows and serving mixed drinks like Beam and Cokes in mini-pitchers, hasn’t welcomed customers since November 10. A Facebook post announced a temporary closure, but regular customers are saying the bar is permanently closed at 2428 N. Western Avenue near the Bucktown/Logan Square border." - Ashok Selvam

"Longtime live music dive bar The Mutiny is indeed closing for good, as Block Club confirmed Eater Chicago’s story. It has been “temporarily closed” since October and owner Ed Mroz announced that his financial troubles have become too much to keep the bar going. It has been open since 1990 at 2428 N. Western Avenue." - Daniel Gerzina

It was like your best friend's basement. Free pool (billiards). "House of the Rising Son" on the jukebox. Up & coming bands in the stage. Cheap beers, free water.

Love this bar! Always feel at home here- unpretentious, let your hair down, have a shot of whiskey and a cold beer, Rock and Roll!!! Bartenders are attentive and friendly, they have a drink called "the Juicy Booty" which is sooo delicious and refreshing. I've seen some awesome shows here..and no cover! Music is amazing, the sound guy makes magic happen. Will always love Mutiny, a Chicago staple.

If you are visiting here, you probably already know what you're getting into. This is one of my favorite dive bars in Chicago. They have a lot of live punk/metal music, limited beer selection (occasionally the drafts pour a little too warm for my taste), and an excellent low-ceiling ambiance that makes you think you might be at a college basement party with a slightly more elaborate home bar than any of your friends had.

Awesome grungy punk bar. Good deals on drinks, and on Tuesday nights they run an open heckle mic. Never been to a heckle mic? Check it out. Great comedy scene, great music scene, great people all around.

Always an awesome time at The Mutiny. Free pool table every night and free darts when there isn't a show going on. Their is never a cover and the beers are cheap and served in massive frosted mugs. There's also a beer/shot combo that I enjoy greatly. If you still want a craft beer they have a nice little selection. The whole staff is friendly as long as you're not being a dick. But really they work through the crowds very quickly at the bar. All around a nice little punk/rock/metal bar.

Bartender Eric was really cool. The ceiling tiles are a magnificent punk art gallery. If you want something different, this is the dive bar for you. Not to mention a tamale guy will come through a couple times a night with some damn good tamales.

A dive bar in the worst way. Place is borderline unsanitary. Bands are treated like garbage and never start on time. Drink selection is overpriced and limited. Taps are never clean. Bartending understaffed and rude. Ceiling is about to cave in (just look up). Used to be decent but the lack of care and love for this place is painfully on display from ownership these days. Hopefully it turns around.
