"As a community-focused non-profit, The Nashville Food Project (TNFP) is partnering with Culinary Creator Vivek Surti for pop-ups at its West Nashville location and is also organizing a virtual 10th Anniversary Picnic Party fundraiser; a portion of the pop-up proceeds benefit TNFP’s mission. For the anniversary, the meals team is preparing picnic baskets for two (vegan, chicken, or beef) stuffed with items like fried spiced chicken tenders with Alabama white sauce or smoked beef brisket, roasted garden vegetables, biscuits with tomato jam, proper pimento cheese, and mini pies or TNFP “compost” cookies, plus beer and seltzer from Lipman Brothers; baskets are $50 for two and access to the virtual show (including bluegrass sensation Justin Hiltner and a 10th-anniversary video screening) is $20. The first 75 baskets also include napkins made by the Catholic Charities Sewing Training Academy at McGruder Family Resource Center, where TNFP stewards a community garden." - Eater

The Nashville Food Project Announces New CEO, C.J. Sentell | Eater Nashville

"I see The Nashville Food Project as a community-focused nonprofit founded in 2011 by Tallu Schulyer Quinn that I view as entering a new stage just in time for its 10th anniversary with C.J. Sentell hired as the next CEO. Sentell arrives with years of nonprofit leadership and social entrepreneurship, has actively farmed for the last decade, and even incorporated a study of “the relationships between freedom and food through the intersection of slavery and agriculture” into his doctoral work. The board praised his strategic vision, his ability to diversify boards and staff, and his track record of leveraging resources to support BIPOC-led and -focused nonprofits. My impression is that his primary aim is to build on Tallu’s legacy by continuing to bring people together to grow, cook, and share nourishing food to cultivate community and alleviate hunger, while also expanding TNFP’s work to address root causes of food insecurity—through public policy, capital access, education, workforce development, food entrepreneurism, and infrastructure—so all Nashvillians can meet their own food needs. I also note TNFP’s holistic, collaboration-driven approach: using good food and shared meals to build community, strategic partnerships with local farmers and nonprofits, volunteer-run programs and gardens that foster deep connection to land, and a sustainability ethic that seeks solutions benefiting both present and future generations." - Eater

"Founded in 2011 by Tallu Schuyler Quinn, this nonprofit operates as a food distribution organization for Nashville’s food-insecure neighbors and centers its work on supporting recipients, volunteers, and staff with dignity and grace. After Quinn was diagnosed last year with an aggressive glioblastoma, she transitioned into a founder role so she could focus on her health while continuing to shape the organization’s vision, chronicling her experience and emphasizing loving the community, living in the present, and the naturalness of grief. The board, led by Chair Jeff Warne, has framed the coming leadership change as continuity of Quinn’s legacy rather than a direct replacement, named Christa Bentley and Teri Sloan as Interim Co-CEOs, praised staff resilience evidenced in the 2020 Community Impact Report, and is preparing to mark the organization’s tenth anniversary while launching a formal CEO search managed by Koya Partners." - Eater

The Nashville Food Project prepares meals for distribution by other non-profit organizations to those in need, which includes poor elderly, school children, and victims of natural disasters. The staff are top notch, and their kitchen is a shining example of what a commercial kitchen should be. They receive donations from various businesses like Whole Foods, as well as local farmers. I provide a knife sharpening service to the NFP at no charge, as my contribution to their efforts.
