"Midtown isn’t an easy place to find a good restaurant. If you’re not wearing a suit or carrying a corporate card, chances are you feel like an alien when you try and take a step up from Cafe Metro. Lately, though, an influx of cool has started to sneak its way into this wasteland. Momofuku’s Má Pêche is always solid, we have an Ippudo, and Geoffrey Zakarian has reinvented himself with a new Midtown mini-empire including an impressive Times Square showing in The Lambs Club and now The National as well. The National is essentially Midtown’s Five Points. It’s a seasonal restaurant and brasserie with solid eats at prices that aren’t cheap but aren’t abusive. It’s money for lunch, dinner, and even weekday breakfast, something that isn’t easy to locate in the mid-50s. The service is excellent - we always feel well taken care of on our visits. Plus, the food is all solid, particularly the pork chop. God damn is it good. It’s certainly true that if The National was downtown, it would hardly stand out amongst a sea of decent bistro/cafe style joints. But up here, this place is pretty special. Get it in your rotation. Food Rundown Ribs An appetizer order of three soft, tasty ribs in a sweet pomegranate BBQ sauce. For $10, this is definitely a solid starter option. Duck Frisee Salad Shredded duck, a warm poached egg, bacon lardons, cranberries, and pecans over a big bed of mixed greens. A hearty salad that can be ordered as a starter to share or a main. Do it. Stuffed Tempura Squash Blossoms If this special, a fried tempura of squash with bufala mozzarella, basil, and radicchio, is on the menu, order it. So good. Pork Chop This is the dish we totally freaked out over. The National’s pork chop is amazing. Served with broccolini and cheese grits in a “candied garlic sauce,” this chop is really juicy and really flavorful. Roasted Chicken Nothing too crazy here. The chicken comes well cooked and presented with heirloom lemon potato, chanterelle mushrooms, and chicken jus. There are better things on this menu. Burger An excellent burger, but be forewarned that there’s a lot going on here. Pickles, “house sauce,” bibb lettuce, tomatoes, spicy jalapeños, and bacon make this a delightful mess to eat. But there’s so much going on, sometimes it’s hard to taste the meat. The basket of fries that comes with the burger are good, too. Crispy Brussels Sprouts A solid order of sprouts. These crunchy nuggets of goodness were served with pancetta and mustard, and are a solid order as a side." - Andrew Steinthal

What can I say, this is a really awesome place to live in! If you are considering renting in downtown Wichita, you’d be stupid to not consider the National. I have lived here since last May and absolutely love my apartment. For the location and all the amenities (won’t get into that as you can read the other reviews), rent is spot on. Building is walking distance from a lot of places you’d need to get to downtown. Parking is very accessible and they have a few guest spots as well! Laundry/dryer in unit, and for a first time high-rise resident, the easily accessible trash chutes are handy. The only remotely negative experience I’ve had so far is that a replacement for some broken blinds has taken quite long(not the staff’s fault, is a vendor issue) Maegan and the rest of the staff really work their butts off to make this a great place to live, so take advantage of that and thank you guys! 100% will be renewing my lease, love this place.

The National is truly one of the best living environments in Wichita. The modern architectural design and amenities live up to the luxury title. The location is unmatched, being that it's within walking distance of both Delano, Old Town, and the river walk. The floor layouts are great and are supported by many fantastic amenities. Maegan and her staff run a tight ship by making sure the property is kept very clean, odor free, and well maintained overall and by strictly enforcing the no smoking policy. The staff makes a concerted effort to know the tenants on a first name basis. They frequently host fun events for the tenants that promotes community engagement. If you are considering a high end apartment in Wichita, make sure this is at the top of your list of places to tour.

I was an educator; a professor of biology in the US. On April 10th, my F1 OPT status was suddenly revoked, and my SEVIS/visa was terminated. I have never done anything wrong. I was ordered to leave the US immediately by the DHS and ICE. I informed the management right away about my situation. I had also sent out multiple emails to the management in those stressful days of shock and awe. At that moment, I had lived for about 9 months at The National. Brooke Merrell assured me that I wouldnt be liable, since this situation was out of my hands. Upon speaking with immigration lawyers, I had to leave the country immediately on April 16th, abandoning all my stuff; heartbroken and in shock, unsure of what was yet to come. My years of studies and hardwork taken away for no reason whatsoever. A week after my departure, my status was automatically reinstated; proving that my status was unlawfully revoked. Nonethless, I had already left the country. Since then I hadn't received any communication from the apartment management, other than a disposition letter in May. I explained my situation again, this time from outside the US, but there was no response. However, I just found out today that they have already sent a bill of $3500 to the collections. How is this fair to anybody? Should I have not obeyed the order from DHS and ICE, and continued living at the national illegally? I am still in the process of applying for a new visa from US embassy, not knowing if I could ever come back to my career in the US. Are tenants like me merely just numbers and not human lives who work hard to make a living? I was unfairly treated and I hope the management takes a look into this issue. The national is a good place to live, albeit expensive. However, if this is how the management decides to treat their tenants, anybody would be afraid to live here.

Upgraded from a studio to a 2 bedroom paying almost $2000 a month. The washer does not work, sent in several maintenance requests. Took off work multiple days for them to not show up for half of them. I have not had access to my washer for a month. They were supposed to replace the machine and left and never came back. They gave me the wrong mail key to my mailbox and ruined my daughter's 1st bday because I was not able to retrieve her custom outfit from the mailbox. The staff constantly acts as if I do not belong in the building I assume it's because I'm a black female with disabilities. Office always claims maintenance is out for the day as an excuse not to provide a paying tenant with services mentioned in lease. I'm thinking I may have to pursue legal action just to get the bare minimum services I pay for. Update: I asked the staff how to file formal complaint and did not receive response. The staff then falsely claimed I violated my lease by having a guest over for over 14 consecutive days when my guest has proof she was in a different state up until three days prior. I explained that they may be confused and think I have had more visitors because I'm a black female and change wigs often. Management sent in repair man on June 5th and said that he has to order a part and wait. Brooke in leasing said she would have maintenance that night or first thing the next day, replace washer for one in a vacant unit. It's Friday, June 6th and I come home to see that it was never done and I will go another weekend without access to services mentioned to be provided in lease. I have not even received an adjustment of rent for loss of services. I recommend everyone to look elsewhere. I pay almost 2k a month for a 2 bedroom to be treated differently than other tenants. It has been over a month that I have been without a working washer dryer unit and this is the second time they claimed maintenance was going to switch the unit out. I'm also confused as to why alleged lease violations are being mentioned publicly when you can easily respond to me via email or phone. I assume that you know exactly who I am since you're aware of the warnings and notices given to me (that I have already responded to and have gotten no response until I made a public Google review) given that I use a separate email account to respond to building management on. And I do find it funny that these claims were not made until I made the review. I feel I should be able to express my grievances publicly since I have tried for a month to handle them with management directly. All in all, I wish I never rented here and will not renew. For $2000 a month in Wichita, I would expect at least the bare minimum and didn't even receive that.

Years ago, as a new college grad, I made the mistake of renting an apartment without seeing it first. That bad experience followed me through several other rentals. I'm thrilled to say that Maegan and her team at The National are the FIRST rental property to get me to renew my lease for another year. Expect amazing customer service, friendly staff who know your name, and a community that feels like family. The amenities are unbeatable: pool, gym, sauna, dog park, golf simulator, three lounge areas, a doggy spa, and more coming soon. The social events are fantastic too! Downtown living comes with some street noise, but the views from The National make up for it. The team here truly cares about you and listens to your needs, which is rare these days. I'm really grateful for that and excited to spend another year here!

The management team is amazing. They are always quick to respond to any maintenance requests, and they genuinely care about the residents. It's refreshing to see a building that’s so well taken care of!

Centralized location for the best 15 minute city experience. As research by the largest architecture firm in the world, Gensler, the reimagining of the older office building is a phenomenal attraction to Wichita, Kansas downtown location.
