Snow Monkeys Delivers Fancy Plates With Nostalgia on Johns Island | Eater Carolinas

"Next to Snow Monkeys, the Natural is a sports bar/arcade where you can challenge your date to a game of Golden Tee or try to win a plushie from the claw machine after dinner." - Erin Perkins

We had a quick and delicious meal here! The Devon salad was a standout favorite. The space has a sleek, modern design both inside and out, creating a great atmosphere. They also have some high-end arcade games, which add a fun touch for kids and for adults who are kids at heart.

Sports bars aren’t my typical environment of choice because I don’t drink and I don’t watch sports. I do like watching people in new environments, though. I was craving a steak salad, and having recently moved back to Johns Island, I wanted to try somewhere new. I saw The Natural pop up in my search results and decided I’d give it a try. The salad was fresh and delicious with crisp greens, juicy tomatoes, and hot yet tender steak. I wish I’d taken a photo then, but I ate it probably too quickly. I decided to drink one of their delta 9 seltzers and definitely felt its effects a little too long for my comfort. I was grateful that the waitress didn’t hurry me to leave once I finished my food. Still feeling the effects heavily, I told the host I didn’t feel comfortable driving yet, so I moved to a bar hightop table. I was grateful that I could sit here until I felt sober enough to go home. I’m not sure how long I was there for, but definitely nearing 2-3 hours. It gave me a chance to capture my surroundings and observations. Thought I would share here since I took advantage of sitting somewhere for so long.

Very sporty themed and cool staff. Our server Brittany was super sweet. The cold drinks flow and the appetizers are quick and tasty. The grilled jalapeños are fresh and yummy. Solid burger. Solid pizza. Crispy fries. Fun atmosphere for any group. Not fancy, just a good time with good food.

I have lived on John's Island my entire life. Since the 70s. Great newish local place with great weekday specials that are budget friendly. Half price burgers on Tuesdays, half price Chicken Sandwiches on Wed and half price pizza on Thursday. As a note the pizza is not the greatest but the friendly staff and atmosphere more than makes up for it. My family is here every Tuesday evening and all 4 of use eat for under $40. Burgers fries and tea. The Barquen, and I know I spelled it wrong is my favorite as it has deep fried bacon on it. Yes I said deep fried 🥓. Make you wanna slap yourself.

The Natural is a really great movie about baseball staring Robert Redford. A small town, Nebraska kid, makes the big leagues, only to be shot down by a gorgeous woman. Just like in real life. Decades pass, and the washed-up phenom has a come back. Inspired by a different girl that's not as dangerous. Just like in real life. Oh wait. . . This review is about a restaurant, not the movie???? Ok. The restaurant is a home run, on an island, in South Carolina. What can be better than that? It's a very fun place with lively staff. Amy, for example. Really good food. Just like in real life.

Google
The Natural is a fun edition to Johns Island! The chicken sliders with cold pimento cheese and bacon jam were fantastic! I also really enjoyed the tomato pie, which is served in a small baking dish with a light side salad (the apples in the salad and the green goddess dressing paired well together). On a sunny day be sure to sit on the patio! Parking is available on site!

Google
Glad I decided to come to John's Island. Very cool restaurant! Lots of menu items that look tasty. Outdoor seating. Staff was attentive and friendly. Video games! I had a chicken sandwich. It was delicious. Definitely worth coming back to try other items.

Google
Had my 4 year olds birthday here Friday evening and they were amazing! Pizzas and tables ready for us and never acted annoyed about a bunch of 4 years olds acting their age! Thanks again!

Yelp
First walk into the Natural was Greta! Staff greeted me as soon as I walked in and was very friendly. The ambiance of this place is nice clean bar place, but it's very comfy cozy! Now, that Christmas is approaching.... The decoration is definitely the cutest. Now, to the food! My mom and i ordered Wings(Korean BBQ & Mild) and I got a chicken Philly and she got the Caesar chicken salad. The Korean style wings and very flavorful and savory to the tastebuds! Not spicy but has a little sweetness. The chicken Philly looks well and full of everything needed! I'll update yall on that later. But this place is definitely a return spot for me!

Yelp
Stopped in on the way to Kiawah & I have been wanting to try this place out. Was seated quickly and the food was looking really good coming out to other tables. They should have something for the pickiest of eaters. I had the Cubano and almost didn't finish it. So good but lots of food. Also, prices are on point. Will def be back!

Yelp
The inside is very spacious with a nice size bar. A game area in the back of the restaurant- great added bonus for some fun whether you are just there for a drink or maybe waiting for your meal. The staff were very friendly and attentive. The food came out nice and quick. Outdoor patio seating available. Recommend checking out this spot.

Yelp
I've been here a number of times. Outside mostly with my dog. All my meals were wonderful! Surprisingly, their Margarita Pizza was awesome.

Yelp
This was my first and last time at The Natural. Upon the server seating us outside she sat me and my friend at a table with only one chair and proceeded to walk off without a word. Out of all the table with chairs she could have sat us at or at the very least, grabbed a second chair. This was a weekday night and it wasn't busy. I'd go as far as to say the place was dead. There were dirty dishes on half of the tables outside. I'm assuming they didn't have SAs but that didn't account for the hostesses and other servers standing around instead of keeping the place tidy. I knew in my gut this wasn't the place to get a margarita but I did anyways. It was bright neon yellow and absolutely foul. I ordered the flat bread margarita pizza which was flavorless and the dough had a very chewy bland texture. My friend got one of the burgers and wings and reported they were both just "ok". Our server was nice and that was the only saving grace of the place.

Yelp
Lunch at The Natural on Johns Island did not disappoint! I had the French Dip Burger (so flavorful!) and my hubby got the Philly Cheesesteak too--honestly one of the best I've had, and I'm from the North where I've had plenty. The fries were spot on--crispy, golden, and addictive. The service was friendly and attentive, which made the whole experience even better. Casual, fun atmosphere that's great for kids, and plenty of easy parking made it super convenient. Cozy spot, great food, great people--definitely worth the stop!

Yelp
I can't give zero so you get one. I came to meet friends for a quick happy hour. I haven't been back in over a year. The first thing I noticed was the smell. Reminded me of old piss it was gross I almost left but I literally just walked in. The bartenders looked miserable didn't even greet me a hi or even eye contact would have been cool. Didn't get food because it's was trash last time and didn't want to waste the money. Yeah that was definitely my last time going.
google avatar

Darren D.

Yelp
Stop by for lunch and was very nicely surprised. We had the beef sandwich and a pizza. The food was fantastic and the staff were too. Can't recommend this place enough. Also they have daily specials that are 50% off. So the pizza was like $7. Different special every day. Can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Yelp
Went for Christmas Eve. I've been driving by for over a year now, and figured I'd stop in, I should have kept driving. My first thought, it's weirddddd...not in dating your cousin weird but like the outside look doesn't match the inside, the sitting area is just plain and dated for being a new place. It's like a bar with just some booths and chairs tossed around. Nothing special. They definitely need a remodel of the booth and table section! Now food! Again WEIRD! I ordered the queso burger. Great beef patties, and queso. Then they put a jalapeño jam that is super sweet. Nothing else comes on it. We also order the bacon burger with fried bacon & bacon jam on it...eh...again, it was super sweet and the fried bacon was mushy. Staff was nice, but if I do go again it would be for the fries and a beer, that's it. The fries were the best!

Yelp
We stopped in for the 1/2 price chicken sandwich night as The Natural is very close to our home. Look at these huge portions! A large fried chicken sandwich with a green pickled tomato, tomato jam and pimento cheese served with a house salad. My boyfriend ordered the fried chicken Korean sandwich with a caesar salad. Both were delish! All this for $15 and change. WOW! They also have an arcade, close to 15 tvs and a great beer selection. A perfect place to watch football, baseball, hockey, etc. and you can keep your children busy playing games. A win win! Warning, it can get pretty loud, which is fine by us. Excited to try 1/2 price burger night next.

Yelp
The Natural offers half price chicken sandwiches on Wednesdays! My go to is the Will Bird served with a side Caesar salad. The fried chicken sandwich is cooked in Korean BBQ sauce, topped with Jalapeño Apple Slaw and Pepper Sauce. You can clearly see from my picture that I was hungry and took a bite out of my food as soon as it arrived. So tasty! Quick service and a great atmosphere. They have every sporting event on multiple tvs and a fun arcade for children and adults. The perfect football Sunday spot!

Jean M.

Yelp
We went on a Sunday during NFL football games. It was super crowded and very very loud. We couldn't visit across the table. The floor plan is wide open with tables everywhere. Kind of felt like an airport or Disney world. I get the feeling of a chain restaurant there. Nothing about it felt low country or relaxed. The arcade, the amplified TV sounds , the crowd, all made me want to get the heck out of there. I had the fried chicken sandwich with pimento cheese. It was ok but not great. The fries are super brown and skinny, hard/crunchy. Not my kind of fries. The wait staff was good. Because of the noise and chaotic feeling, we probably won't be back again.
google avatar

Lisa M.

Yelp
We came to the natural with local friends in Super Bowl Sunday. This restaurant/bar is also an arcade, which is super fun for adults and kids alike! The food and drinks were great! Also our server was awesome and handled our group and the game day crowd like a champ! We would come back!
google avatar

Debi R.

Yelp
Thursday night is pizza night and they have Happy Hour from 4-7:00. It was very crowded. We had a party of 5 and the website recommended reservations for party of more than 4. That was a great suggestion. We walked in and were seated immediately with our reservation. Their menu is sandwiches, burgers, wings, and pizza. We had the chicken sandwich with fried green and pimento cheese. And pizzas. The pizza was very good and I would recommend it. After dinner their game room/arcade provided entertainment for our little one. What a fun place!!
google avatar

Shauna D.

Yelp
If you have kids, I could see the appeal. I do like to get their wings to-go, and they have decent happy hour specials, but the wine pours are small, and I just am not a fan of kids running all over at what feels like it should be a bar. The giant arcade area in theory would keep them entertained, but be prepared for hyped children running back and forth to tables. The food is "ok," but my sister was unfortunately served RAW chicken. They obviously took it back and offered to re-made the dish, but, with 8 people who have food in front of them, we ended up just sharing whatever we ordered with her instead of waiting on the order to be re-fired. Ironically, their wings are what I liked on their menu, just make sure to ask for them well done, to avoid any potential issues.

Yelp
I've been living on Johns Island for approximately 10 months and have not tried "The Natural ". What a fun place to bring the family! There is an arcade section that makes for endless fun for kids and adults. There are lots of tvs for watching whatever game you want. The food was so good. Didn't eat a single thing that I wouldn't order again. The burger was really good, tastes really fresh with quality ingredients...not your run of the mill sports bar burger. The wings were cook perfectly... meaty, crispy and just the right amount of heat. My wife had the Devon salad, she could stop talking about how good it was. Great food, great service, great atmosphere, all at a reasonable price. We will be back to try the rest of the menu! I would recommend this restaurant!

Dee M.

Yelp
Great spot for large parties, or gathering with friends. Delicious fried chicken sandwiches, something for everyone!
google avatar

Jeremy C.

Yelp
Great new spot on Johns Island. Large bar and several tables and booths. This time just had a few cold beers with a friend. I did however see a pretty good looking cheese steak hoagie that I will make acquaintance with in the not too distant future Several games for kids (old and young) All in all a great addition to John's Island
google avatar

Tiarra T.

Yelp
I ordered a BBQ chicken pizza. Received it within 15 min. I ended up having flour all over the bottom of the pizza. I could not eat it because it tasted like raw flour. Flour was falling on my clothing. Spend 15 dollars on the pizza-so needless to say. I was disappointed when I got home.

Nn S.

Yelp
AMAZING!!! Food was delicious and portions were great! Service was excellent and everyone was very kind! Would definitely go again!
google avatar

Victoria B.

Yelp
New sports bar on Johns Island plus an arcade. TVs actually play sounds of the game. Layout is spacious, seems like some wasted space but didn't feel overly crowded. Game area is separate, great for kids or drunk adults. Wings were crispy - Korean bbq flavor was amazing. Chicken sliders were good according to my friend. Drink menu changes daily but I was pleased by the selection.

Yelp
Was a nice first time trying this place! It took the bartender a while to come out from the back and and greet us, but it was super slow at the time so wasn't that big of a deal. As for the food, the cheesesteak was good. Not the absolute best ever, but good for a cheesesteak in Charleston! As for the pizza, the flavor is all there, but it was definitely undercooked. We tried asking for it to be cooked for a few more mins but they insisted it would be over cooked at that point. They had an arcade section which would be good for kids to entertain themselves. Otherwise, big space... lots of TVs, was slow at times and busy at times throughout our visit. 90% of the people were at the bar as opposed to sitting at a table. The bartender was super friendly and took care of us very well!

Baxter S.

Yelp
Awesome place. We are staying in Kiawah island and were sick of paying a lot of money for mediocre food. So we decide to drive 20 minutes to this restaurant. And it was great. Sports bar atmosphere, kid friendly, lots of TVs with games on, friendly staff, fabulous food, large portions, creative menu. What more could you ask for. It's worth the drive off the island.

Lori B.

Yelp
Male bartender eating food then touching fruit to put on drinks! Ugh so gross . Love to eat here food is good but I 'm a little disappointed by the male bartender.
google avatar

Karen T.

Yelp
Four and half. A little sticky. Had the Devon salad with kidney beans, chickpeas, nuts, smoked cheese and chicken. Also had the crispy chicken salad with apples was also good with nice Smokey bacon. No outdoor seating. Bathrooms are clean. Service was prompt and attentive.
google avatar

Andrew G.

Yelp
Was expecting a typical sports bar, but when I went in I was surprised with how nice this place is! Was pretty packed out so that's usually a good sign, they didn't have much staff there but they did a great job of serving a lot of people quickly so there was no drop off in service. Bunch of good drink specials, got the wings and they were awesome, kind of shared food with other people with me but everything was really good! Salad was huge. Will be back!

Carly B.

Yelp
My husband and I went to The Natural last night for our 4 year wedding anniversary, 1. because we wanted to keep it casual, 2. because it's right down the street and 3. because their food is delicious. I was BLOWN AWAY by the thoughtfulness of the owner and the staff. When we walked in the hostess knew about our anniversary and said congratulations. They had a cute note on our table that said happy anniversary. We received excellent service and the pizza was delicious. Thank you SO much to everyone at The Natural who made our night extra special.
google avatar

Stevhe B.

Yelp
We've been to the Natural several times now and really love it. The staff are so friendly and welcoming- food is really good and we also love the Golden Tee machine. Wings are really good!! I also love the cheese steak and the steak frites. It feels a bit like upscale bar food. We will continue to keep coming back!

Marita F.

Yelp
Enjoy the half price offers during the week. Food is pretty consistently good. Wait folks are friendly and attentive. They remember what we like to drink and pretty much our orders. A little on the noisy side depending on the day and the hour. It's close by us and we enjoy going for a casual meal.

John R.

Yelp
This is a retort to Brittany's Review since I was a customer that day. So hateful when you're the one that is butt hurt that your team lost and got trolled by six other tables. You dropped Fbombs like you were in a porn movie ( please don't pursue that as a job) you got mad because a table was trolling you. Grow up be an adult the fact that you're a heavy set blue eyed brunette trying to pull a race card is also disingenuous. Move on find another bar or go back to Chicago. As far as the Natural it has been open approximately 4-5 months and as any new establishment it is having its growing pains. Most of the staff are great and once they weed out what needs to be weeded out they will be one of the best bars on the island. We were well overdue for a sports bar and I'm glad they are here. The only negative I have are their floors, they are supper slick and worse when wet they need to fix them before some one gets hurt Glad to see a year later. Brittany has removed her review and is back enjoying her Bears games at the bar
google avatar

William T.

Yelp
Great atmosphere GreaT cold beer and good service. Lots of TVs for the games Staff is great !!
google avatar

Katharine M.

Yelp
This bar is a good place to watch a football game. They have about 25 TVs, so you have a spot of your team any where in the restaurant. The overall design lacks some personality, but hopefully that'll change over time. The food was solid. We got the wings, which were crispy and flavorful, and the chicken sliders, which had a delicious bacon jam and pimento cheese. Overall, this place seems like a good addition to the island and I'll for sure be back for future games and sports events.
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
I've found it harder to find spots that keep their kitchen open on a full menu after about 9p or 10p these days, so I'm extremely thankful to have stumbled upon this little gem. Aside of the laid back, sports bar vibe with games on TV and games you can play on site, they have a pretty solid food menu also! The personal pepperoni pizza on the lat night menu was bigger than I was anticipating, and let's be real - everyone loves a bigger pie! On top of all that, the bar was well stocked, tidy and everyone was really pleasant. Joe acknowledged me almost immediately after I sat down and took really great care of me. Would definitely drop back in if I'm ever on this side of town again.
google avatar

Grace P.

Yelp
Check their website before visiting - many days of the week they offer great deals (like half off burgers)! I ordered the cheesesteak - I am not from Philly so take my review with a grain of salt, but I thought it was awesome! It tasted super flavorful and really melted in my mouth. I liked that you are able to order a half portion of the sandwich for around $10. It was huge and came with a side. The other food options I saw didn't look great in my opinion. Music was playing super loud which was a little off putting for a Monday night dinner. The service was great and parking is easily accessible!
google avatar

Jess W.

Yelp
With 20+ TVs this is a great spot for watching football! Staff put the games on depending on where fans were sitting. There's plenty of space and even a small arcade area to occupy the kiddos. Food is okay - haven't tried too much of it yet so nothing noteworthy to report in that regard - but they did have my fave beer (LowTide's Aloha Beaches) on tap!
google avatar

Boo D.

Yelp
I have given this place quite a few chances -servers have always been helpful and prompt- TV sports is awesome but food and noise level (lots of kids attributed to arcade) is too much for me - just not my spot but can be exactly what you are looking for I love kids and I like salt but too much of either for me is not good-if it were just the kids I could get over it but I've tried the fried chicken a few times and it's just not good-too briny I honestly don't think the chef tries it...prior to last night I ate it paid for it but didn't hardly eat any of it and gave my thoughts when asked why I didn't hardly consume Figuring one more chance I ordered again and it was same or worse...this time I just paid and left and probably won't ever return Like I said this place is exactly what some folks are looking for but it just isn't for me

Yelp
Ug have fun here. Ug children happy with games. Ug enjoy yummy food, ate full menu between large family gathering. No bad. Ug will return.
google avatar

Tracey M.

Yelp
It's clean, has a large bar with many seats. It can get a little loud with the games and children running around and parking can be obsolete on big game days but they have a great menu and the bartenders are very accommodating. We've definitely become regulars. The green chile queso and the beesting pizza and the steak frites are favs but there's a lot of other options we love too!
google avatar

Kristen H.

Yelp
Came here to watch the Celtics game and became a new regular customer when we venture out to John's Island! When we saw they had a special for Larry Bird we had to give it a shot (pun intended.) Drinks are reasonably priced, service was friendly and attentive. But I can't give enough stars for the chicken sliders! Crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside. Their pimento cheese looks whipped which gave it a nice subtle taste and the tomato jam is the perfect amount of sweet! When my boyfriend and I took our first bites we both said "DAYUM" because of how tasty it was! Now we are excited to try other items on the menu. Only thing I'd change is having the sound on for the games. Since it's a sports bar, we were hoping for the sound on the inside bar. The sound wasn't for any of the TVs, or at least I couldn't find the TV is was meant for. But at the end of the day, It was a great visit!
google avatar

Jennifer F.

Yelp
We had wings and fries. We tried 4 different flavors. Honey habanero, Korean bbq, tribute & 4sho hot. They were all tasty but I must say my favorite flavor was the tribute. The fries were fresh, hot, crispy on the outside, soft in the inside and they were perfectly salted. This is officially our go to wing place in JI. They have arcade games and tv's for sports games too. The service was wonderful as well.
google avatar

John D.

Yelp
If you are just looking for beer and TVs this place is fine but avoid the food and cocktails. We have been twice and both times we received an entree that was not edible. First time it was a pizza that the bottom was absolutely covered in raw caked on flour. The second time it was the nachos. The "pulled pork" was disgusting mush. I think they might have pulled it in a blender. There's no evidence of any management in the dining room. Also many of the arcade games are out of order. And lastly, we ordered a hot dog from the kids menu for our 2 year old and they brought a full size jumbo hot dog on a French roll. Not sure what she was supposed to do with that.

Bill R.

Yelp
Food was decent. Good beer selection. Service was good. They had a lot of great food and beer lunch specials. My kids enjoyed playing games in the arcade afterwards.

Dennis M.

Yelp
Great place " the babe " best pizza in Charleston, every time we go there it's great we'll keep going back.
google avatar

Opal D.

Yelp
The menu isn't very big. I found one thing I wanted to try it was done well but nothing special. My husband's nachos however, were sooooo lame. They looked like something a 21 year old threw it together in his dorm room with some ingredients his mom dropped off earlier in the week... and it didn't taste any better than it looked. The restaurant was generally clean and had lots of TVs.
google avatar

Roger F.

Yelp
Love this place. Everything I've had is good. The crispy chicken salad is amazing and they have the best hot dog I've ever had in my life. Staff is top notch and the place is always spotless.
google avatar

Marylyn W.

Yelp
I will return because it may have been an off day. Food was room temperature and ok. Bar food basically which sucks because we have lots of barfood options on John's Island but lack originality. I know my older children will like it because of the game room. I don't watch sports so I probably don't belong here lol, but I like food so I want to like it.
