Great spot for brunch! The dishes are well-presented and thoughtfully crafted with fresh ingredients. Coffee is also impressive, with a balanced flavor profile – definitely comparable to other top-tier cafes in Brisbane. The interior has a unique vibe — a blend of minimalism and industrial chic, perfect for a relaxed weekend hangout or a casual business chat. Highly recommended for brunch lovers and coffee enthusiasts alike.

Have been going past Bakery Lane for a few months so decided to stop in and have a coffee. Bakery Lane is home to a surprising number of small cafes/ restaurants/ bars and shops. We pretty much liked everything about The New Black. The staff were friendly and efficient and our coffees were very good. Admittedly, mid morning during the week the Bakery Lane was not very busy, so no problem with getting a table. This is a busy little cafe in the middle of Fortitude Valley, but far enough off Ann Street that traffic noise was not a problem. One of a number of Valley lanes that are definitely worth a try.

# 4/5 Stars I recently visited The New Black's new breakfast area, and while the prices were a bit steep (averaging around $20 per breakfast dish), the experience was well worth it for those who want to kickstart their day in style. # Highlights - *Ambiance*: The breakfast area is stylish and modern, making it a great spot for a morning rush. - *Quality Food*: The breakfast dishes were delicious and well-presented, making the price point justifiable. - *Worth the Splurge*: If you're looking to treat yourself to a nice breakfast, The New Black is a great option. # Areas for Improvement - *Price*: $20 per breakfast dish might be a bit pricey for some budgets. # Recommendation If you're willing to splurge on a nice breakfast, The New Black's new breakfast area is definitely worth a visit. The quality food and stylish ambiance make it a great spot to start your day.

Although the cafe doesnt seem too large, there are plenty of seats the lane right next door (quite spacious green and trendy!) The staff were very friendly and the coffee was fantastic! Fried chicken benny was very well done but a word of warning for the chilli scrambled egg- it is quite hot! I got the hash added on side as recommended 👍 Just the parking can be a hassle - paid parking lots are so expensive per hour (fortitude valley!) so try and find street park.

A very nice little place. As other reviews mention there is more seating in the nearby lane way. Note: they don't split bills. This was fine as I was solo. But a bigger group should know in advance. The menu is fun enough but not so crazy that you are searching for something you can eat. I am not a terrible adventures eater but enjoyed my chille scamble immensely. The milkshakes was ice cold and delicious!! I just wish it had been a teeny bit bigger. You are in the valley and the prices reflect that. But my meal was a very good size and I happily consumed it all and felt full. The small details such as a nicer water glass than you usually see and custom logo napkins show they really care that you have a enjoyable eating experience.

The flat white was too big to be a flat white - more like a latte. The build your own breakfast was good but small for the price. I ordered rye bread and got sourdough instead, and when I asked about it the waitress was a bit rude and would not believe me. She eventually changed it, and the size of the slice of bread was considerably smaller. The price of this place is not justified as there are cheaper and equally good places around instead.

We called by this cafe for a coffee only. My flat white was nicely presented however I was not very impressed by the bitterness of the brew. Staff were very accommodating & friendly. There's a surcharge on Sundays & no split bills

Hidden in Bakery Lane, this brunch spot brings a retro, artsy vibe. 🧱 Atmosphere The decor here is full of character, with brick walls, street-art murals, and vintage lighting fixtures. Whether you’re seated indoors or outside in the lane, the relaxed, creative ambiance makes it a perfect place for catching up with friends or unwinding solo with a book. It’s one of those spots you don’t feel like leaving! 🥯 Food Classic brunch menu. I had the Salmon Bagel—looked good but felt overly salty and a bit basic. The half bagel wasn’t anything special. So, don’t come expecting too much from the food, but enjoy the unique vibe!
