Great place to hang out before your concert at the Tacoma Dome. The food was ok, bun was a little burned, and there was way to much lettuce on the sliders. Tots were great, and the beer cold!

Google
Awesome bar. Perfect atmosphere…they put a lot of work into it and I love it. Wish they had a happy hour to keep it competitive, but don’t care really because this place is awesome.

I was with a group of 20 celebrating our friend’s birthday. The staff did a great job of catering to us even though we were such a large group. The food was excellent - highly recommend the breakfast quesadillas.

Google
New to the area and have been looking for a little spot in the area. I think I've found it. Food is good with very competitive pricing. Drinks-a-plenty. Live music (check their calendar) and other events from time to time. I felt 100% comfortable sitting inside enjoying the eclectic chotchkies. Staff has been super friendly without being overbearing. Yeah, I'll be back again ... and again.

Stopped in after work one day and enjoyed a beverage. The atmosphere is right up my alley with a lot of vintage flare and... hidden squirrels. I didn't eat while I was there, but a friend did order some tots that I tried, pretty good. I wouldn't claim that their drinks are "craft" but a spot I would go back to, maybe when there's live music.

We had an amazing brunch on Saturday (Oct 5/24) with Amy being the one person taking care of the entire bar, and a rowdy group of rugby players. She was hands down absolutely amazing. She took our orders, got us drinks, and kept track of all of us and did an amazing job. She should be employee of the century! We appreciate her and all her work! Thank you Amy!!!!!

DO NOT CONE HERE THEY STEAL FROM PEOPLE! The venue in itself is quite cool, HOWEVER this bar will steal from people. We came in while the "Pink" concert was in town which we were not attending. We ordered a beer from one bartender and paid cash 14$ and something cents. Went and ordered a second beer from the bartender who had taken over for the evening a blond lady, and she charged us 5$ more for two beers (came to 19.95 for two now) !! When I questioned it she went on to say sorry she just gave back the wrong change and it was 10 cents difference. I said it again that it's not the same price we were charged before. She looked frazzled but didn't agree. I could see her conversing with what I assumed to be the manager and came up to our table. She said sorry but that she charged the "RATE for when concerts are playing" and they do it so they can stay in business she said. HOWEVER we got there while the concert had started down the road and clearly everyone in there were not attendees. She did end up refunding the difference only because we brought it up and caught them trying to STEAL and grossly overcharge us. Long story short, this bar will make up their own prices and steal from you. I do not support this and I do not want this to happen to anyone else. So I BE CAREFUL! They should be absolutely ashamed of themselves.

Yelp
First time I've ever been to this venue and I was very impressed! The staff was friendly, the food was delicious and last night. There were two bands that played and it was so much fun and the place was packed for a Wednesday night. It was a good evening in Tacoma! I highly recommend this place

Yelp
I've got to say, probably one of the worst dining experiences I've had in Tacoma. My friend and I wanted to support a women-owned local business, she had eaten at New Frontier once before. The restaurant is near Freighthouse Square in the industrial area of Tacoma. Street parking only. The restaurant has a cool vibe- it was a sunny day, so the garage door was open- which unfortunately brought in a ton of flies- it was so unappetizing. We came at noon- ordered brunch. To order, you need to brave your way to the crowd at the bar, and try to get the attention of the one or two girls working. So this means, coffee refills, table service-non-existent. After ordering, we sat for over an hour waiting for our breakfast. Not a single acknowledgement. After waiting forever (no, it was not busy enough to justify this), the waitress brought me one biscuit, and COLD gravy. Everything was ice cold. Then I eventually received the rest of my order. BUT, even though my order was ready, it was another 10 minutes before my friend received her breakfast. Her breakfast came screwed up- missing hash browns, missing toast- "oh, we are out of that". Such a disgrace pf a restaurant- you honestly felt like you were a burden eating here. Don't waste your time- go find a place that cares about your business.

Yelp
This place has definitely had a glow up! Food, atmosphere and staff are all great improvements. We had the smash burger and the frito pie dog. We were splitting everything and the kitchen did it all for us which was unexpected. If you want a good smash burgers and a menu with variation this is a great place. I generally go during the day which is nice unless you need to do some remote work, the trains are continuous. The food was great, the service was amazing, love the drinks. It was nice having the option to sit outside. They have a cool projector that usually has an alt cult classic on it. The vibe is nice.

Laura H.

Yelp
I finally made it! I know a lot of friends who come in for the music, but I've also heard the food is really good, and it is! New Frontier Lounge looks like a little hole in the wall from the outside, but is quite cute inside. The bartender/server was very friendly and the bar is very relaxed. They had numerous beers on tap, as well as a full bar and quite an extensive menu. Initially I was going to try the black bean burger, being vegetarian, and that they make it in house. Last minute I decided to try the hummus plate. Oh my gosh! Fantastic! I actually think this may be one of the best hummus plates I've ever had. They also make the hummus. My partner got the grilled chicken sandwich with tots. He said it was delicious. It does come with Frontier sauce on it, and although he said it was pretty good, he thought he might skip that or get it on the side the next time. I tried his tots and those were delicious, as well, and I'm not even a tot fan. Definitely a great experience. Can't wait to come back and try The Greenbelt sandwich, the black bean burger, and the Greek salad. Thanks for an awesome experience.

Yelp
Love the rebrand/remodel with the furniture and stage. the menu is also a nice improvement. Nice spot if you're commuting to/from Seattle at the Tacoma dome.

Shelly C.

Yelp
Is it usual for your bar workers to film or photograph your customers, if they are vulnerable, and then pass that on to someone who's harassing them, without their knowledge, who said they paid the bar worker $50 for the picture or video, who then posted it on Twitter bragging they got it from your bar worker, to continue to harass that vulnerable person? IF I were you? I'd avoid this bar - if this is correct and there's proof the person posted the picture of the poor guy, via the bar staff, on Twitter to mock him? Not one with ethics I'd like to go to.

Alden C.

Yelp
New Frontier I believe has been a around for a while and I never paid much attention to it when I was in the Tacoma Dome District. But I saw signage recently at a favorite coffee shop of mine for where events were located here and I became intrigued to go check the place out. And I wasn't disappointed in the slightest. I really enjoyed my first visit to New Frontier and had a couple beers and relaxed. They have the typical bar food and I enjoyed that too. I had a cheese burger with french fries which were very good! The fries were cooked just right and the burger tasted great and needed no condiments at all. Service was friendly and prompt and they have a good selection of craft beers on tap and are fully equipped for mixed drinks too. I may come back as early as next weekend to have another meal here... it's in the plan!

Phrank S.

Yelp
Amy!!! You killed it this Saturday when 18 ruggers popped up for brunch. All of us got food and you kept our drinks refilled the entire time. The bacon was my highlight, would totally recommend. There's a reason why we love this place, good food, good drinks and a cool chill vibe.

Jenny N.

Yelp
Went to new frontier under the new ownership. Everything was absolutely superb. The tomato bisque was a little bit too much like tomato paste, but everything else was top-notch. The service was fast and great. The bartenders were very nice and checked on us often, the ambience was awesome as usual, as it still looks like the "old" new frontier. Can't wait to go back.

Katie F.

Yelp
Amazing service I think the food is amazing and I've had the best mixed drinks ever here 10/10 would recommend

Janaya S.

Yelp
Food is nasty. Staff are VERY rude and act as you're an inconvenience for simply being there. As soon as we approached the bar, the bartender was very rude. Maybe the staff were having a bad day. Based off my experience, I would not recommend.

Kathleen F.

Yelp
Sunday breakfast great food. Had breakfast Burrito with Sausage Gravy yummy, lots of food. Next time going to try Crab Cake Benedict.

Jennie C.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The ambiance is just what this area needs. The food is amazing and the brunch?!? Yes please!!! If Dani is cooking, even better. Looks like live music is available in certain nights so what's not to like?

Jeff M.

Yelp
Seems to be under new ownership and they are doing a great job. Very personable folks. I was the only in there for most of Monday afternoon, and they were so kind and chatty with this tourist on his first visit to Tacoma - went back the next day and will go back if I ever come to Tacoma again!

Jaime K.

Yelp
The food at New Frontier is on point. The Frontier Breakfast Sandwich is so good! The menu is great, the bartenders are great, the live shows are great, and the atmosphere is great.

Josh D.

Yelp
These clowns wouldn't serve us past 6:30 PM because we were attending the Tool concert and they had a burlesque show starting. It was 6:31, I ordered and the bartender realized I was there for the concert and told he me they were only serving burlesque customers and I needed to go buy my beer in the Tacoma Dome. Clown show. Their food is trash too. Lighten up on the salt on the tater tot's.

Joe P.

Yelp
This is the coolest new place reborn. The food is great . The owners are planning lots of great music options and shows for everyone to enjoy. I had a Korean BBQ chicken burger and it was killer. There was also many veggie options for my wife. She was so happy she made me leave this review. Honestly I was so impressed with the food selection, and drink quality/beer choices. Super old school worn floors , mismatched furniture was so perfect. A comfortable atmosphere. Looking forward to shows here.

Mike M.

Yelp
Love this place! Now that Rose is behind the bar, the vibe is even better! Great food and awesome drinks....fun times.

Shaun P.

Yelp
Working close by it's a great place to kick back for a bit. Friendly service and great aesthetic in Tacoma.

Corina M.

Yelp
Don't even bother coming here if you're not white or under 40. I live near by and always pass by this bar. There's always great music coming from inside. They posted about a free event for Friday the 13th and my friends and I decided to go. Since the walk in, everyone was giving weird stares. There was a birthday cake on the center table so we knew they were celebrating something or someone. 4 people came up to us asking us if we knew certain people, or just random questions like as if we needed to know someone to be in there.. it was a FREE event. The workers were d*ck heads. To top it off the people we were behind of in line for the bar were being extremely rude and racist to us UNPROVOKED. We tried to look past all of it because they had an amazing dj with some good music but the whole experience was literally sh*t. We most definitely weren't welcomed.

David S.

Yelp
Had a fabulous time there yesterday. Great drinks and great service. Update. Stopped by after a visit to the Elks. The website said open. Sadly they were closed. Drove back to Woodinville. 4/28/2019

Ivan M.

Yelp
This place has amazing food and cheap drinks, their wings are on point, but the adobo wings forget about it. If you looking for yourcwatering hole look no further this is it.

Rachel W.

Yelp
I'm here for Brooke, the bartender. Weeknights, as we stumble off the train, too tired to cook, we come here for a nice taplist, cider on draft, and a good little menu of well thought pub grub. The rest of the time, there's sports or live music, but at 7:30, Jeopardy goes on at the bar tv, and the regulars shout answers from around the room. It's a nice, midweek, low-key moment of connection with strangers in a pub. Frontier Room is trying some new late evening formats post Covid, which is great, but I hope they remember those of us that stuck with them, who are looking for chatting with Brooke and Jeopardy.

Jason W.

Yelp
Had time to kill between basketball games and came here which was a 5 minute walk from the Tacoma Dome. Great happy hour. I had .50 cent wings which were fabulous. They have good beer on tap and frosted mugs. It is kind of dark in there but has a nice atmosphere. The service was great!

Nate F.

Yelp
Rum and coke tasted like water. The theme and scene is corny. Yea.

Mae W.

Yelp
I love this place so much. It's real, the bartenders kick ass and the food is pretty good! I have seen the Cave Singers here twice!!!! Love the intimate feel, the stiff drinks and the old Masonic furniture. Don't believe me? Behind the bar is. Crabs mason altar of sorts, or so I was told... Anyway, The New Frontier is the best place to see bands! Great sound, intimate feel and good food and booze. Can't ask for anything more. Since this is Tacoma, there is a decent am out of street parking or you can take the light rail too (the one that runs in Tacoma, not the one in Seattle). They either provide or have ear plugs for sale. Also, water is kept (ice cold if I may add) in a nice silver pitcher with cups next to it if you need to hydrate before heading home. Don't drink and drive of course! Always check their site for who is playing their stage, it would be awesome if they had their menu offerings online too but I have taken photos of it (two sides, back to front) of pizzas and toppings if you want your own spin on it or other things like tots with ranch and ketchup or nachos. They of course have a full bar and beers on tap as well as beer or cider in cans or bottles. Just come down, check out the band playing or enjoy just watching tv and knocking back a few :-) Who knows, you may meet your new bff here at the bar!

Amber H.

Yelp
There's a terrible bar tender who was rude to me all night. He misheard me order my drink and then publicly mocked me for it. Total ass hole.

Madeline S.

Yelp
I've been in here probably 10 times in the past two years.. even though it never really gave me any reason to come back after the first time. I've never seen more than one bartender on duty, and there have been a few times where that bartender has disappeared for more than 10 minutes, leaving the bar completely empty of any staff, and leaving you helpless if you wanted another round or wanted to just pay your tab and leave. A 16oz can of Seattle Cider also totals to over $6 after tax, which is something I have never seen before. I know some people who love this place, but after my several visits, I wouldn't make this my first choice.

Alisa G.

Yelp
If you are in need of drinks and food before a concert at the dome, you could find yourself in worse places than this joint. The pizza was like something you'd get from a freezer like, Digiornos, the drinks were okay. But the staff, wow. The bartenders were great at avoiding eye contact and acting really put off by your drink order. When asked for a suggestion on a good shot that doesn't include tequila, the bartender responded, I'm sorry, I can't think of anything, I've been doing this all day. What's that, you've been serving drinks all day, as in, doing your job, and you can't think of a drink to recommend? Roger that.

C P.

Yelp
Not so sure about this place. The other half and I walked in and the lounge had an old vibe to it. I liked the layout and the bar itself. Happy hour prices were pretty decent... drafts were $3.00 a pint. So we had Ninkasi IPA drafts. I do have a few complaints about this place. The beer selection was meh. They had a few good drafts, but nothing too exciting. The last few minutes of our visit, went downhill real quick. The bartender had a hard time hearing us... we said we wanted to pay our tab... and for some reason she thought we said 2 more new castle... Not sure how that was. Second, she wasn't too friendly either... She just looked lost. I'll try this place again, but hopefully they'll have better taps and friendlier service.

Rusty S.

Yelp
Bands, beer, cocktails, food, the best White Russian EVER... what's not to like about this place? Located right across the street from the T-Dome, New Frontier is a dark cave of a bar that is somehow reminiscent of an old garage. I'm sure a lot of that has to do with the decor-- bare hardwood floors, old beer advertisements, plus the namesake neon sign from a long-defunct Tacoma bowling alley. There's a stage at the far end, a bar along the side, TV, projection screen, pool table, and a mishmash of high and low tables, barstools, and padded benches for seating. All in all a pretty cool space, for sure! So far I haven't sampled much off of the menu, but they do have some kick ass happy hour specials and the entrees I've seen served to others looked and smelled pretty damn good as well. Looking forward to trying some more comestibles here. For drinks, the New Frontier's *special* White Russian is reason enough to keep coming back: served in a pounder glass, this $8 treat is a potent mix of vodka, Kahlua, cream, and ESPRESSO, served over ice (Best. Energy drink. Ever!). Cheap tall boys of beer are pretty popular here, too. This place can get packed and very loud when there's a band playing, making for a long wait for drinks and no available seating. Also, it's proximity to the Tacoma Dome makes parking a challenge if anything is going on there. Other than that, though, I'd say it's just swell.

Jared B.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised by the New Frontier. It fits right in with the area, kind of grungy in the dark but it's decently maintained. We were going to a different event but wanted to get some decently priced booze (New Frontier delivered) before getting gouged by the Tacoma Dome. They had a show of their own going on, but the bouncer let us without paying the cover since he knew we weren't there for it- super rad. The show was actually decent, the sound wasn't great, but it never is with punk rock in small stone spaces. Super loud. The layout was well done for the space, I liked the mix of wood and plainish stone floors and walls, it gave the bar a nice divey vibe while still being nice. Perfect for the location. The drinks were stiff, the bartenders were busy but efficient, and the pizza was good to boot. I'll definitely be back next time I'm drinking in Tacoma.

Jamie A.

Yelp
I have enjoyed seeing many bands, including my friend's band "Destruction Island," over the years at the New Frontier Lounge. This bar is a great place to have a drink and enjoy live music. There is a pool table as well. The atmosphere is great with it's wood floors that really let you feel the music... literally! The drinks are tasty, and the bartenders are friendly. There is street parking, and the location is pretty easy to find. I will definitely go there again soon!

Stacy J.

Yelp
empty on week nights good local music venue Too loud for old guys

Chelsea Laine H.

Yelp
Good neighborhood punk rock bar. Came here for the first time on a Sunday for a local show - the sound person was great, not too loud and everything was mixed really well! We had earplugs but probably didn't need them! The bartender was really friendly and the beer prices were good. They do have what appears to be a small food menu but we didn't order anything to eat. Overall the space is laid out well with good sitting and standing options to watch a band or just hang out! Will definitely return!

Benjamin C.

Yelp
The location and environment are great, but the drinks were super lame. Got a $7.00 "cocktail" that was advertised on the board that tasted like old blueberry pancakes. Somehow the total wound up at $20 with that plus a double shot of Jameson--not sure why it cost $13. Weak pour too. :/ Not gonna recommend this place to anyone I like, most likely.

Shawn C.

Yelp
I happened to run across this place one Friday night. I had a really great time listening to the fantastic bands that were playing that night and came back the next night. I was again impressed and had a great time listening to the music. This bar / lounge consistently has excellent bands come and perform, primarily on Fridays and Saturdays. The cover is low, the beer is cheap and delicious local brews, and the people are friendly. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a nice place to relax, have a drink, and take in some live tunes.

Christian S.

Yelp
Loved it.. My wife and I went for a date night here. Hands down best nachos we have ever had.. very generous and light on the wallet. Also, my wife loved the white russians--tasty and potent. They truly are the best around. The atmosphere is trendy, but not pretentious. staff are super friendly and attentive and prices are very reasonable. Wish we could have date nights more often. Will be back again soon...

Mike H.

Yelp
My band has played here a few times and they treat/pay us very well. Each band member gets two free drinks and half off the food menu which is great by the way. My favorite thing about this place is that it has a dive vibe without actually being a dumpy dive and you can get Rainier tall boys in a can, they also make a stiff vodka & tonic. The place does get pretty busy on weekend nights so you might have to wait a few for a drink but it is worth it. The service is good, the happy hour is great, the waitstaff is very friendly and the owner is a pretty nice guy too. If you haven't been there check it out.

Kristin S.

Yelp
The shots were expensive, the beer was flat, it took forever to get our pizza and it was terrible. I'm assuming it was frozen, I don't know how you could make it taste like that if it were fresh, but $16 for a slightly burned, 12" bad pizza? Awesome. All but one of the staff was unwelcoming, uninterested and rude. I was here a couple of years ago to see a band and I don't remember it being this bad. Hopefully it gets fixed, because the potential is there, but I won't be going back to find out.

Amie D.

Yelp
We love the NFL and often come here for happy hour. Great drinks and food. The bartender is amazing and friendly.

hope a.

Yelp
NFL is a jewel in the heart of Tacoma. I love this amazing place. I always feel comfortable and love the staff and the owner is so truly nice!!! Thanks New Frontier for making 100% of the experiences I have had in your amazing place the best I could imagine:) NFL always has events and fun arranged...every time I have gone there! Its action packed and the live music is diverse and superb. The staff, owner, and atmosphere makes the New Frontier Lounge one of my favorite spots in Tacoma. Thanks so much NFL, for improving my life by being so amazing and always trying and being awesome:)

Zachary B.

Yelp
Nice pool table, food and sound. Get a few cheep beers, order a full nacho then have a smoke. Enjoy yourself, zero ego here.

Derek G.

Yelp
Admittedly, I did not know what to expect when I went to the New Frontier Lounge (NFL). However, I can honestly say I experienced more than I could hope for from the encounter. The NFL is a small place. As a result, I can see how seating could be difficult. Nonetheless, I went on a night that featured live music and still found a place to sit and eat. That brings me to the food. I am a huge fan of bar food. I am not an accredited bar food Somalia. However, the NFL serves some of the best bar-pizza I have eaten since coming to Tacoma. Parking, inexpensive drinks, friendly bartenders, and rock, what more could ask for in a bar?

Justin B.

Yelp
Decent dive bar with live music. The bartenders tend to be a little sloppy and overwhelmed at times. All in all. A-OK.

Buddha B.

Yelp
Good bar service. Bands were at a reasonable volume. Pool tables. Pizza was decent. Beats sitting in a hotel room or having crappy dance/pop music blaring in your ears! Get an AMF, delicious!

Berke A.

Yelp
Monday night reggae holds me down like steel. Ack like you know.

Kyle A.

Yelp
We had the most pleasurefool time at the New Frontier when Marion Walker, Criminal Code, and Big Crux played!!! Saw my cousin too!! New Frontier/Tacoma Rules!!
