I found a jewel oneday. I ventured out in the rain, didn't want to go too far, and without crossing the bridge I found "The Kitchen". Located in a strip mall situation at 4801 General Meyers in Algiers, the place is really nice in a neighborhood kind of way. I loved the jazz music in the background and the art motif, yeah, for real. They only do lunch now, but after hours, with the tables candles lit, I could see a Friday and Saturday Night date place.
This is New Orleans Creole with a flair. I had one of the chef's specials which was as down home as having a crawfish and sausage sauce, but the sauce was as fine and light as a French bistro. The blackened chicken breast was tender, grill carterized for flavor, and strategically precut so only a fork was necessary, and the pasta perfect. The rest of the menu is both traditional new orleans and entres that demonstrate the chef's complex background. I am so glad I found this place, very affordable, very pleasant and five or six minutes away... tops!
Soul food is almost always a delight and this food lives up to that supposition. there's a great take out business but a shame that eat in seems to be wanting. I know most eastbankers won't make the trip to learn what Algerian's have in this secret hideaway, but it's our loss. Chef is extremely gentle and hospitable plus talented as expressed by his dishes. Read somef the other reviews to verify my thoughts.
Parking in large lot in front.
