The New Yorker Hotel

The hotel is very impressive when you enter; once in the room, it's fine. You can tell it's an old hotel, but it's clean! One point that really needs improvement: the bathrooms. They are incredibly small! It's nice that the room was cleaned every day! The staff is extremely friendly! I just wonder what's on floors 3 through 19. A student dormitory?

Pleasantly surprised by this hotel. Yes the hotel is old, the rooms are small but the room was clean and well maintained (except for some paint in the bathroom) My room was on 23rd floor, it was very quite. The cleaning lady on my floor was very friendly and professional, cleaning of the room done everyday. The staff at the reception / lift is helpful and professional. The hotel is perfectly located, really 1 min walk from the Penn train station and next to multiple subways. The neighborhood is safe, a short walk to Times Square.

We've just arrived back from a six night break at the New Yorker. The Hotel is in a prime location and is close to great locations in New York. There is no shortage of food options locally with a 24 hour diner just off the main lobby and two other restaurants off the lobby that aren't 24 hour. There's also a McDonald's restaurant over the road which is also 24 hour. The room had a street view and was perfect for the two of us. We were on the 36th floor but the elevators are segregated and the higher floors elevators don't stop on the lower floors. Lobby is absolutely magnificent and the staff all very helpful and polite. I highly recommend this hotel if you're in the market for for a NYC hotel in Manhattan. We could see the Empire State from our window and so many attractions were a walk away. Subway right beside he hotel too. Madison Square Garden a 2 minute walk away. Try the Tick Tock diner attached to the hotel. Would definitely book here again if doing a NYC trip. G

The location can’t be beat. The staff is amazingly professional and welcoming. The rooms that haven’t been renovated into blandness are wonderful. Trattoria Bianca is a great place for dinner (avoid the Tic Tock Diner). The beds are very comfortable and the bathroom was very clean. Unfortunately, there is no coffee maker in the room and the ice machine is always too far away. You will hear the traffic and sirens of New York in your room, you are in the greatest city in the World, deal with it.

Rooms are tiny. Bathrooms are tiny. Not much shelf space. If there are 2 of you and you want to have a snack in the room, one can sit at the desk but the other will be on the bed. Not complaining; just something to know. Location is right AT Penn Station which is great. Staff and security are great. Cleanliness is great.

Miguel at the front desk was exceptional always able to help us make our stay even better. Door persons need to smile and be more respectful and helpful. Hotel lobby beautiful. The security staff was friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, I did not get her name but the maid on the 30th floor she was from Mexico. She was very sweet and helpful. Delightful person to see in the morning.

Hotel is in a good location for visiting Manhattan - most things worth seeing are reachable by walking and train. The hallways and rooms are showing their age (not in a charming way), and our room did not have a mini fridge, which is probably our fault for not checking. The staff at the front were friendly; however, over the course of our 4 days here, we requested to have our one and only bathroom light fixed several times, and nobody came to fix it before we left. For the money, I would likely choose a different hotel next time, which is a bummer because this one is in a prime location next to Penn Station.

The location is most outstanding point at this hotel. It’s really easy to access any restaurant and tourist attractions. The staff at front desk are very nice and helpful. Room is very spacious and clean. I really love the art deco. Definitely come back

The rooms are small but clean. The beds are very comfortable, and their pillows were fantastic, I dislike down pillows so I was thrilled to have what I think were cotton-filled pillows. The bathroom is also very small, but also clean. They left some old elements of the building and I thought it gave it a lot of character. There's nowhere really to set your stuff on, a corner shelf by the mirror would be useful along with a towel rod. The shower water pressure was fantastic and the water was hot. We ate dinner at Tik Tok in the lobby, and it was such an upbeat place. We had the pastrami burger and a chicken caesar wrap and both were good. Hotel staff were super friendly, the check-in process was unbelievably fast even though we were queued in a bit of a line, it was less than 5 minutes. Great location, about 3-5min walk to Penn Station or the Empire State Building.

Stayed here two nights with my daughter. The New Yorker Hotel Wyndham is an old art deco building and feels like it hasn't been updated since the art deco period. I'm only giving it two stars because the location is fantastic, but... it wasn't worth it and I'd never stay here again. The hallways look like death. Literally like a scene out of AHS Hotel LOL. Old and dingy. Old key card system that erases the key if it gets near your phone. Felt very 90s. The room (a double w 2 beds) was small - typical Manhattan) with carpeting that looked ancient and there was a stain on my headboard that I cleaned off myself before going to bed. The bathroom is very small and dated. Grungy feeling from being too old - no matter how much you scrub a bathroom that old, it still feels dirty and smells musty. The AC was good and cold and the water got nice and hot. But the rest was bad. Oh and the tv was really old - literally looked like it was from the 90s - and was way too small for the wall. It looked ridiculous. I needed to get a new key at the front desk late one night because my phone erased it and I had to ask the security guard to get someone to come to the front desk and then waited several minutes. The guy never came. So I asked the security guy again and he literally walked over to the front desk and yelled toward the back room for the guy to come out. Ridiculous. There are other hotels, folks. Do yourself a favor and book one of those other ones. And don't eat the the hotel restaurants unless you like verbal abuse. I'm not kidding.

You cannot beat the convenience of the New Yorker hotel from Penn station / Madison square garden. Came to New York for a concert and the New Yorker was the perfect location - literally a block away. The woman who checked us in was friendly and upgraded us from a double bed room with a view to a suite which offered a sofa bed. This worked out wonderfully as there were three people in my party- giving each of us our own bed. She also was able to check us in early so we could drop off our luggage to the room. The room itself was small but fit our needs. The bathroom was tiny. You couldn't fit more than one person in it at a time. The shower leaked making the floor soaking wet and the toilet was very difficult to flush. The also added a 35 dollar fee when checking out stating it was part of the original fee for the room. I think this was just another way to get more funds than the online quote.

After being slightly irked about walking down 3 flights of stairs to use a bathroom while working my company's booth for a Financial Services conference at the New Yorker Hotel, my irritation turned to curiosity when I saw a shrine to Nikola Tesla. I am a GEEK when it comes to Tesla and his whole beef with Thomas Edison. If his alternating current electricity had won out over Edison's direct current electricity, life would look way different than it does now. All power would essentially be wireless since the 1930s and much cheaper than it is today. But wtf do I know honestly I'm just this guy writing yelp reviews ahaha. After a brisk jog up 3 flights of stairs to get back to my booth, I whipped out my 16 inch Macbook pro and started doing my due diligence. But like come on... there's no bathroom on either of the first 2 floors??? Tesla lived here in room 3327 for the last 10 years of his life, and actually died in there too. I was shocked when I found out this is still a fully functioning room, they should rope this off and make it a Tesla Museum. He still doesn't get the proper respect he deserves, even though he was going a bit senile by the end there ahahaha. I told my coworker who I was working the booth with that Tesla had lived in this very hotel we are in right now for 10+ years of his life. She said "oh, cool" while not taking her eyes off of her laptop. I was like damn, she thinks Imma weirdo. But, I tried again, as surely somebody would find this as cool as I did. After a conference attendee sheepishly came up to our booth and asked what our company does, I saw my chance. After stumbling through my uninspired spiel about how our product analytics are changing the world, he then picked up a pamphlet and started reading a bit more. To fill the awkward dead space, I asked, "Did you know Nikola Tesla lived in this hotel for 10 years...?" "Who?" he responds with. At that point I was defeated and just gave up. I must be a dork. But really????? No one thinks this is cool???? Anyways, you can tell The New Yorker Hotel had its day back in the 30s and 40s. Guests used to include JFK, Muhammad Ali, Fidel Castro, Mickey Rooney, Joan Crawford, etc. Now, it feels like it is holding on to this star studded past, without trying to be its best self in the current day. It's dated, run down, and a bit dirty. It just feels like a novelty being in here, one might say they got too comfortable...... NIKOLA TESLA STAND UP! REST EASY MY CROATIAN KING! My stay here was disappointing. I picked this hotel due to its popular name and history. Also, because it's located in the best area to be able to walk to everything. Walking through the revolving doors into the huge lobby looked impressive. They have a breakfast station to buy food in the morning and an expensive restaurant on the left side walking out. There's a McDonald's directly across the street. There were about +10 elevators surrounding each other which was cool to see. The hallways are a zigzagging maze. The lighting and wallpaper really feels like you're in the Shinning. The rooms were really small, even with an upgrade. The outside view from the room was not good but was able to see the Empire State Building. Bathroom sink didn't drain well what so ever. The shower looked dirty and the shower head sprayed terrible; needing replacement. The water temperature was luke warm which was bothersome after a cold day. Night time was the worst. Every noise outside can be heard in the room. From every "I'm walking hear" to frustrated beeping. Good thing they'll give you ear plugs at the check in desk if you ask. Really expected better and won't be choosing this location for my next stay.

Let me start with the parking. They have the parking address wrong on their website. We kept going around to find it, but it was a waste of time. We notified the help desk of the error on their website. Hopefully, they can fix it. The hotel was overpriced but not just for this hotel but most of Manhattan hotels at the time of booking. The room is small and outdated. The parking fee is $50 per day Hotel resort fee $29/day Luggage storage is $5 per piece regardless a personal item or big suitcase. They have starbucks on site. The only good side about the hotel is the location.

Free upgrade to a room with a better view of the Empire State Building. The room was also spacious!

My room was a bit far from the elevator but it's easy to ride the sighs on we're your room is on the floor, The ice machine is located in the 19th floor. With snack machines in foyer! Good cable tv , hot water in the shower! AC did work ! Bed was cleaned and comfortable , there is NO fridge so you have to put stuff on ice or just bear with it!

Too much nickel and diming -- room upgrades, costs for an amenity fee (there aren't any of note -- no pool or roof deck). They charge for a late check out.

The hotel was very nice and nostalgic. The room was very comfortable and the staff was professional and accommodating. Mohammed at the front desk took very good care of us at check in. The location was great and easily accessible.

Stayed here in May 2023... had a room for approx $250 a night, two double beds, no view, we had another part of the hotel outside our window. As others have noted, the hotel is old, and the hallways do look dated. The room was tiny but clean, shower had very high pressure, the bathroom very small... the reason for my 4 stars: 1. The location was great, across from Penn station, MSG, and a subway station. Also, CVS over the next block for snacks and other supplies, McDonald's and Starbucks nearby as well. No coffee machine in the room, we rented a fridge for $30 (for the entire stay, not a daily charge) 2. Clean room, multiple outlets for charging devices, quiet (we were on the 22nd flr, still heard the occasional siren but it wasn't bad) 3. Secure; staff are standing by the elevator all the time checking for room keys When researching this hotel the overall reviews on Yelp were low, but TripAdvisor has higher reviews more in line with my views. A bit of trivia also, Nikola Tesla lived his last days on the 33rd floor...

Had a great stay! Came with 20 students on a field trip, felt safe, the location was convenient, and the staff was helpful. The rooms were cleaned and the perfect little NY cozy size. The restaurant was just okay, I only ate breakfast there because it was included in the stay, however service there was horrible and the food was very mediocre. Back to the hotel, a good stay for the price and location.

This hotel is not nearly exceptional, but it is not unstayable either. If you are looking for a budget-friendly place to stay for one or two nights and plan to spend most of your time exploring the city, this place will suffice. However, do not expect a luxurious or particularly comfortable experience. The walls are paper thin, allowing you to hear conversations from neighboring rooms and the hallway, which itself feels dirty and sketchy. The hotel shows its age with outdated fixtures, cracked bathroom tiles, and deteriorating caulking around the tub. There is absolutely no counter space in the bathroom, which was inconvenient, especially as a party of women who needed to do makeup and hair. There is also no ventilation fan in the bathroom, which makes me wonder about mold growth. The area around the hotel feels unsafe, with noticeable drug activity. On the positive side, the beds are quite comfortable, and plenty of towels are provided. Additionally, the water pressure in the bathroom is very strong. In summary, this hotel is sufficient for a short stay on a budget, but it lacks comfort and security.

The AC leaks, and I have to put towels. Management hasn't taken care of this concern nor wants to provide any discounts for the huge inconvenience. Initially, we had to wait for a room to be ready. Mind you, the check-in is at 4 pm... we arrived at 5 pm.

DO NOT BOOK ONLINE - NON REFUNDABLE Apparently this hotel has no cancellation policy. That said on their website: https://www.newyorkerhotel.com/ If you click book now directly on their site you are taken to: https://newyorkerhotel.reztrip.com to book. From there you can see and book rooms that will say "Stay longer, Save more refundable" And Free 48 hour cancellation policy. You will get a confirmation code that their own customer service department won't even recognize and they will accuse you of booking through a 3rd party and their policy at the hotel is no refunds. While the 3rd party may be true, it's literally the book now link on their own website. RIDICULOUS LOL. I called 2 different customer service representatives at The New Yorker. One seemed helpful but after putting me on hold for ten minutes I was transferred to somewhere completely else, I assume maybe another Wyndham branch who told me to call back to the hotel. The second kept saying I booked through a third party even though it was on their own site and there was nothing they could do. She said to call the front desk, which I had already tried and they would not answer. The response was, well, you should try again later. Unacceptable in my opinion. Eventually after calling Wyndham corporate customer service I was able to connect with someone who took the time to hear me out, and actually went on to the New Yorker website to see the issues I had described. And how their own booking platform on their site says refundable, which is contrary to their apparent zero tolerance cancellation policy. Eventually I was able to get a cancellation confirmation, but with no help of the team at the New Yorker. Their own website is contradictory of their policy and seems like a sham. If this happens to you in the future reference their review. Dont even bother calling the New Yorker. Call Wyndham customer service directly. If they don't help, you have grounds for a chargeback on your credit card. I will never book with the New Yorker or Wyndham in general again. Just an awful experience, outside the one corporate employee who took the time to understand my problem and hear me out. If they pay to take this review down, I'll write another one in a month. I haven't been this annoyed by a business in years.

We stayed at the New Yorker November 2023 Looking at most of these reviews I can see I'm not the only one who didn't look favorably at this hotel. The first room we checked in to had a bedbug (as identified on the insect app) ironically the room was one of the rooms that Tesla used to live in (back in the hotel's heyday). This isn't our first rodeo in hotels so we always check for bedbugs as soon as we get in to our room (we have been bitten once before this, literally!) The hotel moved us to another room, luckily no bedbugs there. Unfortunately the hotel which looked like it was once glamorous is completely run down and could definitely use a much needed makeover (and a good scrub, it's very dirty). Also when you are in the lobby, you will notice a station (which I thought was a concierge) where Wyndham is trying to lure people to go on their sales pitch for their time shares, avoid if you can! They will promise you that if you go to this sales pitch for two hours (it's not two hours, more like three) they will give you passes that you can use to go to all sort of attractions, one of the attractions being Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island as was listed on their sheet - we went to go use it there and was told it wasn't valid! What a waste of time, will never fall for anything like that again! After we left the hotel, we spoke on the phone to a manager about the bedbug and he told us to email the photo we took, which we did and we never heard back from him. So that's the kind of care that the New Yorker has for it's guests and cleanliness. Otherwise the one star is for location! But I'm sure there are other great hotels in the area.

The location is pretty perfect for walking & transit. Across the street from Madison Square Garden which is great for concerts & sports. Yes it's old & a little dated, but the beds are really comfy & the staff is really friendly!

I honestly don't get the low star reviews. I was suppose to stay at Hotel Edison, but for some reason there was an error with my reservation. We all know how hard is to book a hotel on a Friday Night, on short notice. I was already prepared have a pity party but the hotel member gave me good news and gave me a room I was elated. Every one was friendly. On the inside hotel looked clean and well kept. My weekend rate was unbeatable. Def helps being a Wyndham rewards member. My room was small but I came to NYC to be out not stay in my room. My view wasn't the best, I was facing another building but no biggie. My last day, Monday, I lost track of time and asked Elijah for an extra hour so I can refresh myself before leaving for Maryland, before I asked how much, he said don't worry, on the house. Most hotels would have nickel and dimed you. The Tick TOCK diner is adjacent to the hotel and food is amazing!! Review for that coming soon.... This hotel will be my first choice when I'm in the city.

I wish to express my experience at The New Yorker Hotel in a formal manner. While the establishment is notably large, it is pertinent to highlight certain concerns. Notably, there are no surveillance cameras on the floors, which became apparent on the 22nd floor where I lodged with two 16-year-old girls. On the first night, post-midnight, there was a distressing incident involving inebriated or drug-affected individuals attempting to force entry into our room. Following the incident, security responded by upgrading our accommodations to an executive level, ostensibly without charge. However, upon closer scrutiny of the final bill, I discovered an unwarranted doubling of charges. Moreover, various concealed fees, such as charges for movie viewing when the television was not utilized, as well as multiple undisclosed taxes, inflated the total amount significantly. Despite promptly reaching out to the hotel's management via email, my communication has gone unanswered for nearly three weeks. Regrettably, this lack of responsiveness has only amplified the negative aspects of my stay. Consequently, I caution prospective guests to exercise prudence and consider alternative options. However, it is important to acknowledge the commendable efforts of the diligent and affable cleaning staff who consistently maintained the room's cleanliness and hygiene standards. They deserve a commendable rating of 5 stars. Conversely, my overall assessment of the hotel experience, excluding the aforementioned positive aspects, warrants a rating of 0 stars. In an attempt to provide a more balanced perspective, I must acknowledge the courteous and helpful demeanor of the doormen, as well as the aesthetically pleasing and well-maintained lobby. Additionally, the hotel's proximity to the New York subway station is a convenient feature. In conclusion, one must weigh the peace of mind against the conveniences offered by The New Yorker Hotel. However, based on my personal encounter, I advise exercising caution and exploring alternative accommodations for a more satisfactory experience.

Great location I only had to walk two blocks from Madison Square Garden to the hotel. The pluses are they have a diner Tik-Tok, a cute little restaurant Bianca Trattorie, and they also have a steakhouse all on property. The medium points the gym is nice, but because it's in the lower levels, it's stuffy and a bit hot in there. The museum was quite nice due to the fact I am a little bit of a history buff. The only downside is I had a great room, but there were few cracks in the wall/the bathroom wasn't connected directly to the bedroom but other than that it's definitely four out of five stars.

I am a New Yorker , just wanted to stay close to MSG for the Mariah Carey Christmas show . This Iconic Hotel was across the street and I love history so I thought ..why not ? I'll tell you why not . This Hotel is basically a Motel with a great location. Rooms are tiny like ridiculously tiny. Feels like I'm staying in some friends basement apt in a pre war building. Man it's bad. No fridge. No microwave. Bathtubs outdated. Closet doors won't stay closed. Room was clean I won't lie. Had to order a fridge at the front desk for like an extra 25 bucks... Yes they never delivered it.. my travel food spoiled. I thought wow ..Nicola Tesla stayed here !! The plaque by his old suite on 37 was the best thing about the whole waste of money New Yorker Motel. You will see how dingy and drab it looks as soon as you get off the elevator. I was on floor 24. Place was smaller than a jail cell .. yes I have been in a jail cell. That's not the point. Point is .. forget the history , this is THEE worse Hotel I ever stayed at in my 46 years of living in New York . That is all

As usual for an old Manhattan hotel, our room was outdated and tiny -- but the bed was so comfortable, it didn't matter. It was also impeccably clean and the housekeepers came every day. (This was our third hotel of our recent trip, and apparently that has become somewhat rare.) The location is great, a bustling but not miserably crowded area right next to Penn station & Madison Sq Garden, with tons of places to eat and not just overpriced tourist spots. Only the most basic hotel amenities, but it's the greatest city in the world, so anything you could want is readily available nearby.

Got a great deal from Wyndham to stay here. The history of the hotel was an instant draw in for me so decided to try it out. First thing is the location. Fail. Not far from Macy's, Penn Station and Madison Square Garden meaning its a tourist trap. If you want a chill experience don't stay near this area in midtown. I arrived a bit early so wanted to see if my room with ready. After waiting about 15 minutes in the long line my room wasn't ready. They took my number and said they'd call when ready. I needed to check my bags while I waited. Its available with the concierge for $5 a bag (cash, card). So paid the $15 to check my 3 bags and went yo explore. Came back four hours later and still no call for my room. I waited in the lobby about 45 minutes after finally finding seating. The lobby stays packed with people waiting. Decided to go to the front desk and see if room ready. After waiting in line again for 20 minutes it was. Now going up to your room there is heavy security. So you need to show the clerks your access card. The elevators are divided between the high and low floors. The ones to the left are for floors 2-20 and 21+ are to the right. Each set has 6 dedicated elevators so 12 elevators for the property are nice. Little wait to get up and down. Got to my room on floor 7 and its small. I had a queen bed executive room with a city view. So the view was directly in front of another room but if you looked to the left around the corner you can see a building. That was the city view. I feel like the layout was off. So much wasted space and the design was awkward. I always felt like I needed more room to simply open my bags and get dressed. The bathroom was stupid small. I mean it's tight. If it was two people in my room I'd be uncomfortable. The water pressure is decent but the hot water left much to be desired. Luke warm at best. Now the ice situation. I've is located on floor 8. So I tried to go there. Elevator refused to take me there. Each elevator wouldn't go to floor 8. Spoke to the clerks and they didn't understand why either. A supervisor finally came and said floor 8 is locked out because it's under construction. So to get ice you need to go to the other bank of elevators and go to floor 22 for ice. Nope. I felt rushed when I was leaving. The housekeeping staff approached me in the hallway asking my room number so they could get started. I understand they are busy and need to turn around the rooms quickly, but it just felt very rushed. Overall its a pretty place with history and amazing architecture. But if you are wanting to experience the real NYC this is a major no. Its a lot more headache than benefit.

I have stayed at a lot of hotels in NYC and the New Yorker Hotel is my favorite. As a Wyndham Rewards Diamond member I have been treated very well with early check-in, late check-out and multiple upgrades to a suite. Even if you are not a Wyndham rewards member there is a lot to like about this hotel. It feels like a hotel with the impressive lobby, the Tick tock diner, and there are always people coming and going. I just love the atmosphere. The New Yorker is is not just an destination but it is an experience. i would also like to acknowledge the excellent service provided by Miguel at the front desk.

I didn't research this hotel thoroughly like I should have prior to booking. It looks decent on the outside. It's really close to everything you'd want to do, walking wise. The staff is ok. Girl who checked us in was pretty bland with her tone but it's fine. The rooms are tiny. Hotel is older looking. Headboard is old and stained. No king beds, only a queen that supposedly fits two people. Room is 125 sq feet. It does NOT fit two people. No window or vent in the bathroom. No counter space, toilet has no back to it. You have to shut the door to be able to grab toilet paper. Paint is peeling on the walls. Wallpaper is also coming up. Shower heads are leaky. Cobwebs on our ceiling light. Light switches are never cleaned. The housekeepers kept asking us if we wanted them to clean, but the room is entirely too small and with it being so cluttered in here, I didn't want them to move anything or toss anything that shouldn't have been. Also lots of druggies around this hotel just passed out. There are 3 restaurants in this hotel though, so that's a plus. TT diner wasn't the best but it's 24 hours. If you're desperate, then stay here but if you can afford to spend a little more on something better, do it. I'd never stay here again.

My friends and I stayed here for a 30th birthday. We had two rooms booked for a 3-night stay. After the second night, we received a notice and bill under our door saying that our reservation had ended that night and the room was no longer ours. I spent 30 minutes speaking to the front desk personnel about the issue and they told us to stay in the room (as I had showed them my reservation confirmation) and that they would call me when it was resolved. Later that night, I went back to the desk to check on the status of the problem and spent 20 more minutes with the staff trying to figure out the issue. The issue was never resolved. This was a frustrating experience that added a layer of hassle to our travel. For how expensive the rooms are, they are certainly nothing special and offer just the very basics. I likely would not stay here again.

I chose the New Yorker to stay at this time due to its proximity to pretty much anything you need. Literally walk out the door and get your shopping, your food, anything. Pros: It was older, but clean (not always guaranteed in NYC), and if you're a history buff you will absolutely love this place and the exhibit in the lower level. They let me check in three hrs early, which is a plus, and if you need to stay after you check out for work there is some seating with chargers. You also have the tick tick diner, trattoria bianca, and a steakhouse at your disposal without going out in the cold. Huge pluses. After a night out some diner food definitely does the trick. The price was also not bad, around 120 a night, for the location you can't beat it. Cons: I can't quite give it 5 because the rooms could do for a full remodel, it was outdated, my tv didn't quite work great, and the hot water handle came off in the shower. Bathroom in general is super small. The room being small is expected for nyc but it's a struggle to move around in that bathroom. Other hotels I've stayed in have done a better job with designing around the square footage. Tips: Always have your room key out because security will ask. The bathrooms below are key access only. And if you use HotelTonight call the hotel ahead of time because sometimes their system doesn't talk to HT like most other places.

THE WORST HOTEL! This hotel is absolutely disgusting. It is filthy, noisy and looks like it is going to fall apart. Stayed here in February for a work event and checked out early due to getting bit by BED BUGS, woke up with bites on my arm and told the front desk and they did not care at all. Went to the doctor and was confirmed that they were bed bug bits. AVOID THIS HOTEL!

I snagged a room for $160/night Saturday-Monday in April. They let me check in after 2 instead of 4 with no charge. The room was tiny but no judgement there. More importantly it was clean. Tick Tock diner downstairs is 24 hours but the service is god awful. I didn't try Trattoria but it is also attached. Also a "steakeasy" in the basement. Didn't try that either though I wish I had. The cons: the noise! The noise was awful. I was woken up by stomping or banging upstairs that got my anxiety going so bad I had to get out of bed and leave before I had a full attack. There's some kind of school on different floors so every time I got in the elevator to go to the lobby there were teenagers running around. Definitely not a fan of that. The AC is super loud (cause it's old.) If you like white noise though you'll love it. The tv was small and outdated (but did the trick.) Location location location is your best friend here. Steps from the Garden and Penn Station (which made this Jersey girl happy.) Times Square within reach and subway is easy. Would I stay here again? Eh. Maybe if it were the cheapest I could find.

Great old school hotel in a very convenient location, very close to Penn Station in NYC. Art Deco, High ceilings, and dark wood its a lovely hotel. Staff was very cheery and nice, especially at the front desk reception. The hotel was bustling for the busy Thanksgiving weekend and Parade, I thought the hotel did great to accommodate so many more people than they are used to. The New Yorker also happens to be the costume staging area for the Parade so if ever find you are involved in the parade, it's nice to be able to grab your costume there! A couple blocks from Herald Square where Macy's flagship store is and where the grandstands are for those lucky enough to snag one of those tickets reserved for friends and family of Macy's. Security was great, you had to show a room key to get into an elevator to get to your room. I will say the elevators are a bit antiquated and slow. I wouldn't necessarily say later at night it's the safest place to walk by yourself since you are near Penn. Homeless, pan handlers, and opportunists abound. Just keep your head on a swivel.

The location of The New Yorker Hotel is hard to beat - centrally located in Midtown for relatively early transportation and sightseeing. However, when evaluating the cost of or stay with the sum of our experiences, The New Yorker Hotel may not be worth it. We were quoted a higher price for our stay upon check in than we were quoted when making the reservations online (a very dishonest thing to do, and turned me off of the hotel right away). We left our printed booking confirmation with the front desk so that they could check with management about honoring that price. At 4:15 am, that booking confirmation was returned to us by being jammed through the gap in the door of the hotel room (this followed about 15 minutes of hearing noises that sounded like someone was trying to enter our room using their keycard). This was a pretty frightening experience for the person sleeping on the queen sized pull-out bed, which was incredibly uncomfortable and could not have slept two people. During check in, we were told we had been upgraded to a "suite with a view" - our view was an outside wall of the hotel and windows of other rooms. This suite only had one bathroom, and there were no bathrooms in the lobby to use if someone experienced a bathroom emergency while the room bathroom was occupied (something that happens when you're traveling with multiple generations). The room itself was mostly clean - but, the couch and bedding for the pull-out bed were stained and some slightly more detailed aspects of cleanliness, like the corners between the floor and the walls, were overlooked. The shower leaked all over the bathroom floor and the toilet was so loud when flushed it woke up people sleeping in the bedroom. About 50% of the time, lobby staff were dismissive and answered questions as quickly and vaguely as possible, leaving out necessary information. Cleaning staff were always kind and diligent, though we did have to ask for necessary amenities, like toilet paper, to be restocked in our room. We tried two of the restaurants in the hotel, as well. Bianca Trattoria was an excellent experience for food and service - it made for a really convenient and enjoyable dinner on the first night we got into the city. The Tick Tok Diner was much the opposite - the food was worse than most chain breakfast diners. Overall, it is extremely unlikely that we will return to The New York Hotel for any reason, as the value of the experience absolutely did not meet the expectation set by the hotel's cost or reputation.

If you're lucky enough to score a room with a balcony, this hotel is worth it. If not, it's nothing to write home about. I randomly was given a room with a massive balcony and the view in the picture below. It was magical to see New York like this at night, which made my experience at the hotel great. Otherwise, the bed was not comfortable, the room felt dirty, and I likely wouldn't return.

The staff were absolutely rude to my brother, he wanted to ride elevators (he has autism) but they said "Nope, sorry, you have to be a guest to ride the elevator." My brother started crying and then a few minutes later I saw the same staff letting a well dressed man go up the elevator to use the bathroom, even though he didn't have a guest pass. Wouldn't recommend. Was very disappointed.

Location... Location... Location if you are attending an event at Madison Square Garden. Literally a block away. My Buddy and I stayed here while attending the Big East basketball tournament and it simply was the perfect hotel for us since we are both not NYC experts. My friend got very friendly rate of $139 plus taxes & fees so it ended up being $186 a night. Although the checkin women was very nice it did seem to take a extremely long time to get checked in. The hotel room was fine... very small but clean. Shower was great Tv is small.... Fitness Center was good. Again, for us the location was perfect so if I was coming for a MSQ event, I would stay here. Location gives it the extra star... otherwise it is 3 star hotel.

Left my Apple air buds in my hotel room after checking out. They found them saving them for me and mailed them to me back where I live in California. They are honest and great customer service.

I'd rather stayed at the Hampton Inn, Holiday Inn, heck even the LaQuinta Inn. Only plus was that the staff was nice. First things first. I wasn't even supposed to stay here. I originally booked The Sheraton and less than 24 hours before my arrival they emailed me, not called, to inform me that they weren't able to accommodate me due to an error. So now I'm stuck with this place. I knew from the pictures that I didn't like the room. I'm used to rooms in NY being small but this was definitely smaller than what I was originally supposed to have. The hotel is very dated. You can't even lock the bathroom door! Speaking of bathroom, the toilet looks like the ones you see in a work/ public restroom. On top of that, the toilet is literally next to the door. You actually have to turn sideways to sit on it, smh. The paint/wallpaper in the bathroom was bubbling up. Even though it was a free stay, I would've been better off paying for a room somewhere else and would have too if it wasn't so last minute.

Safe hotel but not so clean. Not the worst but not the best. Security makes sure only guest come in but needs to be a little more welcoming.

I got in super early and the cost for an early check in was $75 and the bag check was $5 a bag. NY is expensive and hotels follow suit! The extended review... Cleanliness: 4/5 - The room had clean linens and towels. Service: 4/5 - Front desk was friendly albeit a little slow. Comfort: 4/5 - The room was a little compact but it was comfortable and I had a good night of sleep. Noise: 4/5 - Not very noisy at all.

Probably my least favorite hotel I've ever stayed in. It's expensive, has small rooms, lacks updates (wasn't run down but was definitely aged), it is also very loud outside so it was tough to get any sleep. It is in a convenient location though. I wouldn't recommend staying here unless you really want to be in the heart of it all. They did require you to show your room key to the door man, which was good for extra safety.

So it's very close to Penn station and Madison Sq garden. The views of NYC are pretty good but service to repair things or fix things in room are non existent after 3 calls to the front desk - the hotel is a little beat but hey it's 3 stars...

Absolutely terrible. Do yourself a favor and book somewhere else. The lobby is nice, but once you get up to a guest floor your are transported into a dump. The halls are dark and dingy, the walls and carpets are dirty. The room was in poor condition. Good luck showering, the water goes from scalding hot to freezing cold every 10 to 20 seconds, no warm water whatsoever. Broken furniture in the room. Wallpaper peeling off the wall. Black marks on the ceiling. Everything just looked dirty and run down. This place is badly in need of a remodel. I've stayed at Motel 6's that were nicer than this ragged, neglected, dilapidated, crap shack. The lady at the front desk was nice. The guy guarding the elevators was rude and a total jerk. Not at all worth the price, even for the location. Update: the elevator guards are racist. Even the non-white ones. They only stop brown and black people and make them show their keys. I've witnessed several white people just walk through. But even when I have my card key out and visible they still stop me. This place is the worst.

I Grossly overpaid for a queen size room/bed. when I got was a full-size bed and a tiny room, no coffee maker, no fridge just a tiny room and a tiny bed. while the staff were smiling. I was also able to easily over hear many negative comments. One gentleman was standing by the elevators complaining that the night was going to be terrible and stating it over and over again. you hear seven hours from home in the hotel you're staying in. when I asked to be compensated or switched rooms, I was told no and that they do not provide that for anyone that I should be happy with the room I have. I reached out to Expedia.(with whom Id booked) and got the same answer. the only positive I can say was the room was clean. so kudos to housekeeping. same ur money for a hotel that is worth it. I've stayed in so very many. it's just not worth the price at all.

I stayed at The New Yorker Hotel this passed March 2023. I was a chaperone on a trip for a California school. The Hotel was a wonderful place to stay. it was easy to get around. It is definitely a historical hotel and very well kept. I would like to give a Special Thank You to the Fabulous Housekeeper on staff Maggy Arnaod. she went above and beyond to make sure we had what we needed, she was very helpful. Quaint, older hotel. The check in process was amazing thanks to Jimmy H. He's a good one! Room was clean. Checkout was easy also. Would stay again.

Stayed in august of 2023. Check in service was quick and easy, but please bring gum if you need to travel to a high floor due to your ears popping on the elevator. We got to our room, and it was pretty nice. Went out and returned to our room. Unfortunately, the room was very small and very dated. Other than that, it was just great. Very close to Madison Square Garden, and to Penn Station. For some reason at the end, the room smelt like urine for no reason at all. Tick tock diner was very good! Ate everything from there. Overall, I recommend staying here if you like being close to everything you need.

For the price and the location you're getting a hell of a deal. You have to remember that this place is two blocks from Penn station. Some of the internals are dated, but yet somewhat timely of a period in the past. If you're going to an event at the Javits center, it's a nice 10 to 15 minute walk. If you have to get some clothes to take 2 to 3 block walk. There's a host of different restaurants either attached or nearby and the subway station is right next door . So to be clear, you're talking about a place that has some older decor and electronics. Soaps or small but the rooms are big.

THE BAD: Terrible check-in experience. There was a huge line when we arrived, and we ultimately waited over an hour to check in. The wait itself was annoying, but I was more annoyed by the staff's complete indifference to addressing it. There are six check-in stations, but they only had three of them open, while there were clearly other staff members mulling around with nothing to do. We also ran into the general manager while we were in line, and I asked if there was anything more they could do to speed things up; he just shrugged and mumbled something about "union rules" before walking off without even an apology. As it turned out, the delay was partly because their credit card system was down, so every guest (even those who had already paid in advance) had to manually write out their credit card info and then wait for the staff to leisurely make a copy in the back room. Having people complete these forms while they were waiting in line would've saved a ton of time. Strange but true: Taking a hot shower will set off the fire alarm in your room. I took a shower in the morning, and the alarm began while I was towelling off, so I figured I needed to get dressed quickly and leave the building -- but then we noticed that the alarm was only coming from our room (and our 'neighbors' were understandably confused and annoyed by the loud noise early in the morning). So we called the front desk and they sent someone up to quiet the alarm; he explained that this happens all the time and that we should keep the bathroom door closed when taking a shower. Not sure why they don't try to fix this, or at least put up a sign... As others have said, the rooms are a bit dated -- and although we booked a queen room, it was definitely just a double/full bed. THE GOOD: The location is excellent: Very close to Penn Station, Madison Square Garden, Empire State Building, and much more. They also have an agreement with a nearby parking garage for a reduced rate ($50/day instead of $65). The price was good: About $175 total for a Sunday night during the summer. Our room was also decently spacious compared to other hotels we've used in Midtown. VERDICT: It was exactly "fine." For the location and price, you could do much worse -- but if I saw another hotel at a similar price, I'd take my chances elsewhere.

We got bed bugs! Please don't waste your money on this hotel, the room is tiny, dirty and super old. I showed the Hotel Manager and few other managers on duty about my bed bugs experiences (proof of photos) but they still refuse to help me. Or at least arrange to laundry my clothes for me. I also have proof of photos taken at the property yet they still think that I made up the story. I wish I would have never stayed in this hotel. Spend a few more dollars and stay somewhere else, please. :(
